Growth Can Hurt, But the Change is Worth It

OOC: This is Ayasha's thoughts after her mother leaves AniWaya and leaves her to take care of her siblings.

IC: It had been a week since her mother had gone off to the other packs to make peace now that the war was over. Ayasha understood the reason and even approved of it. But that didn’t make it any easier. She had taken over many of the duties of being mom to her siblings. Only two now that Ahiga had been killed. She didn’t ask for details nor did she particularly want them. It was enough to know that he was gone. She had asked the spirits to guide him in the afterlife and that was all she could do.

She had tried to stay strong for her mother but even she had broken down in sobs at various times with her mother, who always there to comfort her. Yet there was going to be a small rift between them, for now, because of the war. Not who they supported. They both agreed that Maska was a monster and should be removed from power. No, their quarrel was about her involvement in the war. She knew that her mother would be unhappy with her fighting. She was rebellious and impetuous. Much like Ahiga was. That had caused her to pause. It was hard that her brother was so much like her and yet was dead.

So many people had left that she barely recognized the Tribe anymore. Shiloh, Leon, and Saxif were all gone and probably not coming back. And now her mother was leaving. At least she was coming back. She had many roles to fill right now: mother, scout, girlfriend, and friend. She wondered how she would be able to fill all those roles. She wondered how her mother had done it. At least she had J’adore and his family to help with some of the parenting. She would likely die from exhaustion without their help.

Which brought her thoughts to the war. Maska was no longer in power but neither was Dawali. She wondered if he even wanted to be Kalona anymore. He had lost much of his spirit and had helped Maska when everyone but the guardians hadn’t. She was glad that the guardians had mostly all died. With his power base gone and others in charge, Maska could no longer hassle them or other packs. She hoped that her mother was successful in bringing goodwill to other packs. They will be hesitant to trust AniWaya, and with good reason, for a long time, if ever. She had offered to go with her mother but Ralla had said that she was needed here and to take care of Alaster and Aleu. So she had to grow up. What a frightening thought.
