About midday, Hotaru is in Optime.

It was time to settle down. To find a place where the grey wolf could rest at night and have a place to return to when the rain hit. Hotaru had been wandering from leafless trees to deserted caves for the past several days, but it was time for her to find a real place to settle down. The blind woman had heard some whispers of a town within the pack boarders where houses could be found and claimed. Hotaru wondered if this was really true. Many old human dwellings were too dangerous to stay in, while others were covered in mold, vines, and assorted plants. Finding old buildings that could pass as living quarters was hard and Hotaru had always ignored such places. Still, Hotaru felt that there was no harm in looking. After her "accident," Hotaru had found it difficult to make a den for herself. If she could find a usable place, then it would be preferable to her current living conditions.

Fawkes had left earlier in the day to scout the pack lands for this supposed town. After about two hours, Fawkes had successfully found the town and returned to Hotaru. She wandered through the forest using the red tailed hawk as her guide. Eventually, both bird and master stumbled into the old town. Hotaru knew the second they had left the forest, for her staff struck the hard pavement and made an odd clattering sound. The blind woman paused for a minute to bounce her stick up and down on the pavement. Her reddish ears twitched back and forth as she worked to identify and memorize the sound. It wasn't easy, but Fawkes was able to provide some help through his input.

Once she was done inspecting the concrete, Hotaru continued on. She moved quietly and carefully through the town. There were many small shrubs that had poked through the pavement, making them serious tripping hazards for the blind woman. One moment, she would be walking along, and the next she was bumping into a bush. Hotaru cursed as she hit yet another bush and let out a loud frustrated howl. There were supposed to be other wolves living in this town. Perhaps one of them could help her out.

OOCOOCOOC!

Thornbury was a place Erzulie frequented. Not only was it the central hub for the pack, but it was also the place in which her mother and father had their residences; both Skye's house and Bangle's tree – and so, by default, Erzulie lived there too. She still resided with her mother and father, though she ventured past the town's borders quite often. There was a place in the woods she particularly loved to go, where the paths met and crossed. This was where she went on nearly a daily basis to speek to Legba.

But her friend had not been there today, no matter how long Erzulie waited. That was the funny thing about him... sometimes when she wanted him to be there the most he wouldn't show. No matter how close they grew he was always in command, even though Erzulie knew his presence was to help her, not hurt her. Of course, if she ever got too cocky about it, he would quickly put her in check. Like the time he helped her resurrect that chicken a month ago. Her father told her that it was normal for chickens to do that, but Zulie knew better.

Disappointed with her afternoon, the young girl made her way back to the town. She had found her new forms just a few weeks ago and found it delightful to spend time in her Optime body, so she paced through the forest on two feet, wearing various jewelry and scarves that she had pilfered from her merchant father's collection. Eventually she found herself back in the town, peering around aimlessly with nothing to do.

That was when she heard the clacking sound. Her ear twitched and bent toward the noise, and soon the chubby girl was on her way to inspect. A moment later the sound was followed by a howl, and she quickly rounded a corner to see the grey wolf woman standing there with her staff looking properly put out.

“Hey, what ya doin' there?” she asked in her raw vernacular, much like the way her father spoke. The woman was unfamiliar to her - if had been in Cercatori long the Capitana's daughter would have known – but the scent of the pack was beginning to settle on the woman's fur and that was enough to assuage any fears she might have. It didn't matter to her much anyway. Erzulie walked with the lwa; nothing could hurt her with them on her side.

The first thing she noticed about the woman was the blank stare – it made no sense to the girl and was really unpleasant. She had never met a blind person, and didn't even know what blind was. After looking at the unfocused eyes for a moment she waved her hand as though that could make the woman focus. “Are ya ok?”

Word Count → 393 :: OOC: Hotaru you can assume that he has mentioned he is a wood carver, because he would have/ will say that he is one in your joining topic since she asked Smile

Shawchert was taking a break before heading out on his usual patrol. As Thornbury had things to do, and people to see, though it might mean he would have to run into Sky, he tended to walk around the town, to see if anyone needed anything from him. He was proud of himself for that town before it was a rotting, old dead place, but now, now it was bustling with life, the wood changed for better sturdier wood, houses taken care of. He did a good deal of that, especially in the first few months of his living her as the Captain, and the work here had been endless. He had not stopped making repairs here, add ons there, and he loved it. He was a carpenter for life, and it was a part of his job in the pack itself. So as he was admiring the buildings, making sure everything was in order, he heard a rustle in the bushes and then a young not so familiar, yet all too familiar voice asking questions. Curious Shawchert went to investigate, there stood the young pup that belonged to Skye and Bangle, they hadn’t really had much contact, but Shawchert knew exactly who she was especially seeing the clothing of wear she had on. He had adopted Bangles use of a loincloth so it wouldn’t look so wierd to see him with just a belt and a sword hanging from it. Then there was Hotaru, the new woman he had greeted at the borders.

“Oh hey there Hotaru, E...Ezule was it?”

Why did Skye and bangle have to pick such hard names? He didn’t think he got it right and knowing him he’d have another annoyed pup on his hands, though Titania wasn’t a pup anymore and he was finding that out quickly, but she still acted like one, mostly in the communication department, though he didn’t help much himself.

“Is there anything I can help you with?”

He asked, though it felt like he was doing this because she was blind, and he felt nervous she thought the same; he actually did this with anyone who he saw, just in case they really did need help. He just didn’t want her perceiving that she needed even more help because of her condition..

Sorry for the wait.

It wasn't long before Hotaru was joined by an unfamiliar female and the somewhat familiar Shawchert. Shawchert had renewed himself in Hotaru's eyes. Her first impression of the large male was not a pleasant one, but after finding out he was a woodcarver this quickly changed. Hotaru had a soft spot for fellow artists and actually hoped that Shawchert might help her get back into the swing of things. Hotaru still had a passion for carving despite the fact that she was now blind, and she would appreciate any help she could get.

Hotaru heard the female's paws before she heard her voice. The blind woman's ears twitched in response but she did not move. "I'm looking for a place to stay. I heard there were houses open somewhere around here." The blind wolf didn't react to Erzulie's gesture, nor did she know what the puppy was up to. Hotaru continued to stare blankly into the world through unseeing eyes. " I'll be fine as soon as I can stop running into these infernal things." To make her point, Hotaru smacked the bush with her cain and let out gruff sigh. She was still not used to navigating new places.

Fawkes had settled himself earlier on the roof a nearby building. He could see both the unknown female and the red male before Hotaru noticed their presence. Fawkes chirped a greeting in low speech when he saw Shawchert. However, Fawkes's good mood was put out when the unfamiliar puppy got too close to his master. Fawkes winged down and alighted on Hotaru's should screeching all the while. The warning made Hotaru happy. She was glad that she could rely on Fawkes and his protective nature made her feel safe. Hotaru stroked Fawkes in praise while at the same time saying, "Fawkes, calm yourself."

Shawchert's arrival made her feel a little better as well. Best to deal with someone you know than someone you don't. "Hello Shawchert. I was just looking for a place to stay. You would't happen to know of any open houses would you?"

OOCOOCOOC!

The way the woman's eyes were blank was just creepy. Even with her flailing her hand in front of her face she didn't flinch, didn't blink, didn't focus. Why was she doing that? How was she doing it? Erzulie cocked her head before dropping her hands. It reminded her of the chicken she accidentally killed and then resurrected and then died again. The eyes were like that. Was she a resurrected luperci? She knew it could happen to chickens, but she had no idea it could happen to her own kind.

“Wow, what a thing...” she whispered somewhat unintelligibly to herself. She was astonished at the idea. Think of all the possibilities. “But ya don' twitch and flail...” Again the words were more for her own benefit than Hotaru's. No, she wasn't flinging around and running like mad. Maybe se wasn't exactly like the zombie chicken?

In the middle of her thought a bone chilling screech sliced the air and some dark demon swooped in from above. Erzulie bristled, every hair on end, and leaped back. Her arms flew up in front of her face as if to protect but no mighty blow came. Instead, when she moved her hands, she saw the bird perched on Hotaru's shoulder. Anger flashed in her sunburst eyes and she glared at the misfit. “Hey! Ya don' know what I can do to your kind!” she threatened the bird, somewhat comically, while straightening her stance so the chicken skull she wore around her neck showed.

About then Juliet and Titania's dad showed up. The bird lost her attention as he walked over to them. She knew his daughters well but hadn't had many long encounters with him. When he messed up her name she harrumphed. She was close friends with his girls, the alpha's daughter, and her father had pup-sat for him many times, yet he could learn her name. “It's er-ZUL-ee.” She said to him like he was deaf.

“So, who're you anyway?” she asked Hotaru. “Yeah, there's lotsa houses around here. You can see for yourself.” She waved her hand, still completely uncomprehending of Hotaru's blindness. “There's a few really[i cool ones in the shopping quarter. Really creepy with a lotta power...”

Erzulie spoke to him correcting her name for him and he cringed appologetically. It wasn't an easy name for him for some reason and he felt bad he kept getting the name wrong. It wasn't his fault Bangle bullied Skye into naming her that, or them both thinking it was a great name... it was after all a rather nice name, if he could get it right.

"Sorry, Erzulie, I guess it just doesn't want to stick in my head much I suppose."

His attention turned to Hotaru as she spoke about a house, and he smiled nodding. He knew much about the houses around Thornbury. They were sturdy ones that lasted through the winter storm the year before and he made sure they would stay sturdy for years to come, though it had taken him a long time to do, and he still wasn't done with every house, he had help here and there from others though. Erzulie spoke first talking about houses that were creepy with power. He chuckled a little and shook his head to the girl.

"She might need a house that's a little more practical, where she won't hit her head on entering. Something open but not too open, there's a few houses around here that are like that. Most have furnishings already if you want we can look at one or two..."

He trailed off, he was a little embarrassed that he again forgot her blindness, so how she could look at a house was beyond him, though if she did want to check out a house and see which she would like, he would gladly help.

I mention in later posts that there is a boulder outside of Hotaru's house. So when we find one that Hotaru likes someone should point the rock out.

Word Count → 360

The young woman seemed quite strange and rather rude. Not only was she talking to herself, but she was actually talking about Hotaru. The rude comments that emitted from the young female's mouth annoyed Hotaru and she felt rather put off by the puppies comments. "Being blind is not that strange, or is your education so lacking that you cannot even tell. Not to mention that you should learn to speak directly to others in their presence." Hotaru's tone was slightly chiding, but not too aggressive. After all puppies could be quite ignorant in certain matters. She would learn soon enough.

When Fawkes joined the pair of wolves he was surprised to encounter an antagonistic tone. He was simply protecting his master and warning the puppy to back away. Rather than fight, Fawkes decided to ignore the young wolf. The red tailed hawked puffed his feathers a little when Hotaru praised him but otherwise reverted to his normal, neutral demeanor.

Erzullie's suggestion to look at strange and creepy houses rather disgusted Hotaru. The blind woman needed a practical, steady house that was easy to navigate and would provide ample workspace for her to carve. Not some haunted house that children like to run around in. Hotaru was relieved that she didn't have to point this out to the puppy. Shawchert's words were far more... gentle than the ones that Hotaru had in mind. Still the woman appeared as neutral as a statue, the slight flick of her tail the only indicator to her mood.

Hotaru chose to ignore how Shawchert suddenly ended his sentence. It had been clear from the first time that the two met that the large wolf was always on edge when Hotaru was around. He was far too conscious sometimes, although the consideration was nice. The grey wolf inclined her head a little saying,"Please lead the way Shawchert. I'm sure you can find a house that would suit my needs." Hotaru patted the satchel that hung at her side where she kept her carving tools. Hopefully things would go off without a hitch, although with the...interesting puppy around this would most likely not be the case.

OOCOOCOOC!

Shawchert just couldn't get her name right. It was funny to her, but she wasn't worried about pressing the matter; maybe this would be the encounter that stuck in his head and he would remember from then on. Her attention turned back to the 'not so strange' blind woman, and she blanched.

Being blind wasn't so strange? Said who! She'd never met a blind person in her life, and she couldn't understand for the life of her how someone could possibly live without their eyesight. “Wait a minute...” she said skeptically. “I ain't ever known a wolf who was blind. How the heck can ya...” She stopped mid sentence, her words cut short as something suddenly occurred to her. Maybe she walked with the lwa? Maybe they showed her the way? “Ohh... do ya have... help?” She glanced at Shawchert, and then back to Hotaru, figuring the woman would know what she meant and not seeing the possibility for it being misinterpreted.

Either way, the woman didn't seem to be very interested in her help. Neither did Shawchert, nor the stupid bird on the lady's shoulder. Still, she was devilishly curious about the handicapped Luperci and decided she would help on the house hunt. She wondered what 'open but not too open' could possibly mean, but she supposed she would find out as soon as Shawchert showed them.

WC: 272 OOC: The house they get to doesn't have to be the one for Hotaru. :3

Shawchert couldn’t help but smile as the older blind woman interacted with the young strange child. He was used to her actions due to her father, though she had her own personality by far but he found the situation slightly amusing. He was quiet though, knowing he didn’t need to get in the middle of it all. Though he did raise an eyebrow at the pup as she asked Hotaru if she had help, and wondered what the young girl meant, but wouldn’t push it, she had eyed him when she said the words so aparently they weren’t meant for him so he looked around before Hotaru told him to lead the way.

“Right this way then, there’s a few open houses I’m sure we’ll find the right one!”

He said holding out his hand for it to just touch Hotaru’s. He was certain she could hear his feet, but he’d rather just help, though he was a very self concious wolf in what he did and said. He felt nervous but he wanted to help in what way he could and he was sure she didn’t want to run into anymore bushes. He looked at Erzulie, who seemed intent on following them too, which didn’t matter much to him. She could have her say. It was a free pack in any case and the company of another would probably help both him and Hotaru. He started walking to the house he was sure might be for her, it was close to where they were now and had been roomy enough when he had worked on it.

Perhaps I can say she pushed the boulder there herself at a later time.

Puppies. Hotaru shook her head slightly as Erzulie talked, her skepticism coloring her voice and annoying Hotaru. The blind wolf reminded herself that she needed to be patient, Erzulie was still young and there were many things that she didn't know yet. It seemed as if blind wolves fell into this category. The puppy's comment about help was confusing. But rather than showing it, Hotaru simply leaned closer to Erzulie and whispered. "You shouldn't rely on your eyes so much little one. My ears and my nose are all the help that I need."

Fakwes did not enjoy the shift in position, and he spread his wings and tail slightly for balance. The red tailed hawk decided to add in his own opinion to the conversation by stating quite loudly, "I help!" He then dropped down into low speech, chiding Hotaru for not mentioning all the work he had done. Although Fawkes knew that his master was aware of his efforts, the bird would not relinquish his credit. After that, Fawkes was silent.

Hotaru returned to her normal position with a small smile. Fawkes's outburst was unusual and actually pretty funny. Her ears flipped towards Shawchert, his words offering some hope to her. "Thank you for your help." The grey wolf gladly took Shawchert's hand, his guidance more than welcome in the unfamiliar territory. Hotaru lifted her hand a minute and allowed in to rest on the large male's arm. "It will be easier this way." Shawchert always seemed uncomfortable around Hotaru, and her suspicions were confirmed when she felt how tense he was. It was understandable of course, their first meeting had not gone so well and Hotaru had allowed her anger to get the best of her. She seemed to be doing that a lot actually and it was something she vowed to work on.

The blind wolf kept her staff out in front of her. The methodical beating of the wood against the ground marking their passage. Hotaru was careful not to hit Shawchert as she swung the staff in a tight arch. Each tap was to test the ground where her next step would be. The system worked although it wasn't perfect, as was evident by her crashing into bushes earlier.
