Time to talk bizniz. /+450

Vesper was agitated, but she had been agitated for several days now, and so her near-frantic pacing was nothing new. Back and forth she trotted, four paws crushing the grass and leaving a clear mark of her short trail, and her mind was whirling among a similar route as she tried to fathom what had happened the past few days—or, rather, what she had learned. What had happened burned perfectly clear in her memory; she didn’t think she could forget the twitchiness of the dark wolf or the disappointed amber gaze of her mentor or the name of her new rank escaping a puzzled mouth.

The significance of the events was what escaped her, and she worried constantly about an epiphany. Protecting the borders and herself had been forefront in her mind when she lunged at the antsy wolf, and she had confessed many worries and a dark sin to her Shepard when X’yrin came to visit the borders. She was terrified now what all this might mean, and whether her worries about betraying or otherwise fleeing Inferni were well-founded. She couldn’t leave, not when she had done so little in the clan, and not when she had to do so much—even more now that she was an intelligence officer rather than a simple watchman. Her paws were anchored to the ground she tread, and the coyote within her wanted nothing more than to run deep into the Waste and howl and hunt and tussle with her comrades. Her brain, however, was doing acrobatics in her skull.

Vesper did not want to leave this place, this home. But she couldn’t help but accept the fact that she was lacking friends here. Even if she respected many members of the fire clan, she didn’t have the same bond with them as she did with her peaceful wolf companions. She was sure it was because of a lack of effort on her part, though, and after pacing for five more minutes, she decided to take some steps do keep her mind busy in better ways.

For now, her restless paws carried her in the direction of the borders so she might at least patrol as she thought. She had new responsibilities here and would have to balance this with her other affairs, which were a pathetically low number within the clan. She would have to change that, though she didn’t know in what ways she could just yet, other than making the aforementioned friends. An image of herself badgering the newcomers and demanding companionship made her crack a smirk, and her gait lightened as she padded along the skulls that had grinned down on her since her first time here.

The savage in man is never

Tactical; he did not enjoy using this term, but it suited what he did now. The gaps within his ranks filled with faces he knew, people he believed he could trust. Myrika was his diamond in the rough, but she was Lykoi through and through despite her doubts. He liked her because of them, rather. It gave her a honesty that was lacking in the self-confidence that had warped into arrogance within Halo.

That left his third party, the joker card. It might have given him pause to push her so far, but he had done so wisely. A part of him was still very much like the mottled woman. He had seen it in her body, in the story she spoke when they fought. Twin tides pulled at her, fought to rip her asunder—she would either break under their weight or rise. How dearly he hoped to see this. Unlike Zana, Vesper was not bound here by blood. She was a woman who had come here of her own free choice, even if the doubt festered within her as it did him.

Yet his goal had not been to find her, though he did so on this day. He had been cutting back through the territory when he spotted her, advancing along on a patrol. With practiced ease he fell into pace behind her, a bemused smile on his face.

I suck and this post sucks but I wasn't sure what to write. I wanted to get a reply up so we can keep this going since I've been gone for a while.

The steps and scent of another Infernian did little to give the tawny woman pause, but even as she turned her head to address her comrade, the rest of her senses caught up with her overworked brain. Fortunately for her pride, Vesper did not flinch at the sight of her Aquila, but a somewhat perplexed smile was startled onto her angular coyote features. She did not stop walking, however, but the pace was less brisk and energetic and more the easy gait she felt was appropriate.

“Hello, Ezekiel,” the tawny hybrid greeted. She almost asked him why he was here now and if he needed something done, but she swallowed the questions. If he wanted to talk to her about something specifically, he would bring it up without her childish babbling.

The unpleasant reminder that Vesper was young yet fell upon her along with all of her other worries.
