WC:392 OOC: Rawr set at dusk on January 3rd

Eclipse had stayed longer at the waterfall than she had wanted to so now she was trying to make up for lost time. She barely left home it seemed and she wanted to be in the southern lands soon enough. So when she finally reached the end of the mountains and found herself in Drifter’s bay, she felt better and found a small area where the mountain and a verytall cliff was to her back, to rest for the night. She was in between both Salsola and Inferni so she knew she had to keep her guard up, especially with all the reports of the disappearances near the Salsola borders. She wasn’t near the borders but she was sure close enough. Getting what she needed for a fire she decided that roasting the rest of her rabbit would suffice for her for the rest of the night and morning. She wouldn’t have to eat till later after she walked a while.

She lit the fire easy as she could with a winter cold winter weather and not so dry tinder and wood. She didn’t mind the less than satisfactory fire, because soon it would be a nice warm fire that would make her rabbit something tasty, but first she would let it set and brighten before she took her rabbit out. She learned from experience that doing things too quick left unsavory consequences. So she just sat where she was watching the flames grow, her eyes enticed by the dancing light, as it swerved here and there to catch and eat, and grow. She smiled slightly just watching the fire try its best to live and stay lit longer and longer. A hard feet when it was surrounded by snow and slush and cold. Eclipse even played with the fire a little as she pushed a twig in the hot coals, to move the burning wood a little, to a better position to burn and the fire leapt up as if in thanks to her for giving it more to feed upon. Eclipse leaned her back alongside the tall cliff that protected her as she lazily fed the fire a little more before taking out her rabbit and staking it up over the fire, teasing it with it’s juicy fats and oils that could were good fuel for a fire.

As a moth to the flame, the wandering male approached the beacon of light in the vast distance. Curiosity, again, guided his direction, and chance had it be her; his long lost half-sibling. Those strange, flawed blue of hers had watered last time he had laid eyes on them. She had believed him to be the cruel part of a scam, apparently, though she had wrongly judged a mere messenger. But it would be wrong of him to press forth a truth that little Eclipse did not wish to know. It should be her choice to find and accept the unclouded truth, not his. She was likely aware of his approach, for though he was cloaked by the shadow of night, his calm, slowly approaching footsteps cracked gently as he broke untouched snow on his way to her fire. The dancing flames would fend off lesser predators and offered warmth that was necessary for those not suited for Canada’s white winters, but it drew larger predators such as himself. But he didn’t wish to play that role tonight.

Empty eyes reflected her merry fire once he was close enough; though he left the dancing light remain between the two of them. She had no reasons for trusting him, and he understood and accepted this. He knew it wasn’t likely that she appreciated him here, but all she had to do was to tell him to go away. Nostrils flared, involuntary, at the appetizing aroma of roasting meat. Itachi preferred his meals rare and simple, but the majority of Salsola seemed to enjoy more sophisticated meals than he. It was a strange pack, though as long as his voiceless muse dwelled with its population, there was no other place he’d rather be. Hadn’t he been such a controlled specimen, the thought of this would have granted a smile to still lips. Through the long, dark locks that fell into his stony face, he moved his gaze from the roasting meal and over to his half-sibling. She knew nothing, little Eclipse. A young woman now sat where he would have expected a child. Much time had passed since he had seen her away, weeping.

Not a word was offered in greeting; he would allow her to do the honours. He didn’t except her to discover that it was the blonde boy with the mean words, but it was fortunate for her that it was he and not a less friendly Salsolan that had come to share her fire. Salsola lusted for more slaves to add to their ranks, and such a young, inexperienced soul as hers would seem an easy mind to corrupt and forge to their liking.

In Character

She had heard the form of someoen coming up, but she had expected someone she didn’t know. She got up to a knee, her bow in hand, but not ready to knock. An option she kept telling herself she should do as Itachi came into view. The man had told her that her father had perished, then left her in tears. That had been a hard day to get over, but if he were true it would give Eclipse a readon to know why he had not returned. She didn’t settle down, however... He still gave off an aura of untrust.

“What are you doing here?”

Her words were not inviting, nor were they pushing him away from her warm fire. They were of skepticism, and unease. She wasn’t going to trust him. Though she thought he lied to her during her time away, the things she learned, and things she saw, it could possibly be true... maybe if her father was gone.... maybe he did know about it, was he there to witness it? Well best way to find out, but first she would find out his intentions before asking questions she knew would disturb her. He was just as quiet as he had been the first time. ‘A quiet demon’ She thought as she kept her eye on him, still sitting on one knee, her tail was up and frizzed in aggitation, her ears to him, her eyes set on him now instead of the soothing fire she had been feeding. The meat only half forgotten, it still had a while to cook anyway. Right now that wasn’t her biggest worry.

The girl was armed, but she was at a deep advantage, though it seemed she wasn’t aware of this. Had he moved with stealth, he doubted she would have kept the bow for long. The young woman was half blinded by the dancing fire against black. Had he moved through darkness without the intention to reveal his cloaked form until he was up close, it would have been a simple thing to make a circle around the fire and avoid stepping too close to the light. She wasn’t able to see in the darkness as he did, not for the moment.

Small pupils wandered down the long handle of her drawn weapon, but it wasn’t raised with the intention to do damage—not yet, anyway. It was wrong of him to judge her defence based on the preciously little he knew about the girl. Size didn’t matter, and though age was a significant factor, it wasn’t final. Itachi was likely a fighter above the average for his age, because his warrior mother had put him through hard training sessions despite being a runt. The boy had become a man, and his physical weakness had been cast aside. He had worked himself hard to become something different from the boy Halo had thought him to be. But it had never been for her. All he had ever done had been for himself.

Blonde ears, paled by the equally pale season, swivelled to form a mock crown on the top of blonde locks a few shades darker. Her words were not averagely used to greet a stranger and invite him to the fire, but the exiled Prince knew better than to conjure expectations. For a prolonged moment, he said nothing. It was right of her to keep up her guard, for Itachi was neither friend nor foe. Slowly, the man let his knees buckle slightly and drop him into a crouch, deep red eyes peering at her through the licking fire. It could be a difficult question to answer, in truth. Why was he here and not within the secure depths surrounded by the characteristic thorns that the pack was slowly becoming famous for. It was where he should be, so why wasn’t he.

”This is the wrong question to ask,” he informed her, risking to have her shut down from him completely. But it shouldn’t be she to question his appearance here. But he didn’t have to treat her without kindness, and could let her in on what he, perhaps wrongly, believed was more or less obvious. ”I live here,” he continued, through thin, slightly parted lips. Not exactly here, but ”To the west,” where people disappeared, perhaps never to be seen again. But the Lykoi wasn’t much aware of the full spectrum of rumours that had spread to the nearby packs, and he wasn’t too interested. It meant little to him, for he didn’t have anything to fear from Salsola, and the supposed relationship with Inferni made the northern lands quite safe to him. This couldn’t be said for her. To some, she would be considered free labour.

”What are you doing here?” he asked, lifting his pale chin, not redirecting his stare from her blue eyed form.

OOC: Darn girl she needs to choose her words far more wisely lol....

Eclipse eyed Itachi, but he didn’t seem to be interested in hurting her, just the same as the last time, though her thoughts told her to keep up her guard. She set the bow down next to her again, but kept a hand on it; her eyes on Itachi the whole time. She was trained in the bow, but to be a good shot and to hit a moving target she had to be more than just trained, though she was getting the practice she needed she was still nothing but a novice still. This, she wouldn’t tell the light brown colored male on the other side of the fire though. She would let him decide if he was worth getting shot at or not, but it seemed he was there just to be there, to be annoying. He crouched down in a less threatening manner and Eclipse tilted her head slightly. He spoke and of course they were words that weren’t what she was expecting. The wrong question, what was she suppose to ask how his day was? Even after the horrible news that had left her with the last time? No way!

“But that’s the west, your home doesn’t extend to these parts. These are open lands. I’m here because I’m traveling south, there’s no toll to go south is there?”

She said, his words of living to the wast made her clench her bow more tightly. She wasn’t close enough to the borders to disappear was she? Was he going to kill her? Take her away so no one would ever see her again? This made Eclipse’s heart start to race. She didn’t want to die, she didn’t want to be emprisoned or what ever it was they did to the wolves that were not seen around again. Whatever the case may be she was sure it wasn’t pleasant.

When he first had met her, a mere girl then, she hadn’t understood. Now faced with the older version, he could see clearly that the hues of her blue eyes hadn’t changed. He didn’t judge her for not trusting him, for really, he wasn’t to be trusted. A potential enemy, for he was Salsolan. Itachi’s King would have grinned his crocodile grin, had his previously adored subject returned with a new slave dressed in such complimentary colours. Sirius had grown bored of his Protégé, and demotion had followed because the blonde had failed to hold on to his alpha’s strange affection. If he tried, he was certain the way back into his master’s embrace would be a short one. But he didn’t wish to see strings tied to his limbs. He followed only because it was his desire to do so, and his desire to keep the silvery China safe in his gilded cage had been received poorly.

He thought it was a shame to see her this nervous, but perhaps she didn’t realize that his intentions were not to harm her. Not tonight anyway. Soft ears lifted as she decided to argue with his answer, speaking in a way that made him wonder if she herself made an attempt to teach him where it was he belonged. Was it not common for the owner of a house to take a stroll round the street without facing this? But it had been the blonde man that had made the mistake to seek her out, and so he owed her to tolerate the way she spoke to him, even if he didn’t approve of her tone nor the words she chose to relay.

Pupils shrank into their fiery irises as he transferred his gaze to her wooden weapon; watched her light fingers coil around it with quiet need. He didn’t know of any toll, he just knew that people happened to disappear. Although he did not include himself in the Salsolan community, it didn’t mean that he was blind to the things that went on in the pack. He had once been sent to acquire slaves that had been born into their belittled status or taken a long time ago. They had accepted their place. One had tried to break free of his chains, but a furious command from Sirius’ then-Protégé had sent Pandemic out to take that life. The second had been crippled for life, and never again had that man forgotten his place. And never again would his eyes rise to look upon Itachi’s merciless stare.

But now, there were new faces amongst the broken faces of those who had nothing, and they had not been brought to the pack from afar. They had been found here. The girl seemed to wrongly believe that the threat from the pack ended where their territory did, but she was mistaken. He couldn’t fault her for travelling, but he did internally frown at her inability to make herself unseen. But why was it that he seemed to care about her. As he searched, he found no positive emotion connected to little Eclipse, but something must have brought him here. There was always the option to turn around and walk away. She’d be left dumbfounded, but it wasn’t in his nature to care what others thought of him. If he had, he’d been a burdened soul, and weight had no place on these shoulders.

A light shake of his golden head was awarded her, face immovable despite her crude words. ”This may not be Salsolan ground, but you are in danger here,” the yellow man explained, voice carrying his warning without empathy or guilt. He believed in nature’s ways; the strong would devour the weak. The souls that fell into their role and accepted their fates were weak, and deserved to be dominated. But it didn’t mean he had to stand by idly and watch the trap move in on the unsuspecting prey. His half-sibling still had her freedom, and he wished to warn her that it should not be taken for granted. Not here; not with a fire by her side to show the way so the wicked didn’t have to search.

But again, Itachi could not know how far rumours had spread and what they consisted of. Perhaps it would be fortunate for her to be unaware of the cruelty that existed within his home, but he thought it was best to be aware of the lurking danger. At least she would know the consequences and what would happen if she was to be hunted down like some prey and lose her value as an intelligible being. In Salsola, she’d turn into a simple tool for others to do as they pleased. She wouldn’t know happiness there, not as a person with no worth or purpose other than to serve the pack and its members.

Eclipse looked at the man and stared at him. There was so much that seemed to go on in the quiet man’s head, though she knew not of what it was nor why he came here where she was. Was he here to really take her away, kill her and leave no trace? Whatever the case may be he took his time in speaking again. she turned her meat as he spoke more listening to his warning. Frowning she folded her ears back. So he was here to warn her? He had not been a nice man, not from her last meeting with him, but now, though he seemed like the same man, if she looked back at it, his words were all that were bad.... she just took them to mean he was a bad wolf. She stared at him, was this warning meaning he was about to do something, that she should just pack up now?

“Are you going to make me disappear then? That’s what I’ve heard, it goes out this far? What do you want with us so bad for?”

She glared at him, though she spoke in a tone that was not mocking nor derogatory. She was not sure how to take him. If he was here to really warn her, why? Why would he want to help her? Over his own pack? This made her think about what he had up his sleeve. She was very suspicious even after her time in the south. She hated not knowing what someone was up to especially when they were right next to her. She made no move other than to check on her meat, but her attention was entirely on Itachi, and his scheme. The whole thing tasted bad in her mouth. What was his game, his angle, was he going to jump at her when she put her guard down? Then the thought about his comment on her father... how did he know? Now that he was here she could try to ask, if he really was dead Itachi must have known him and known what happened. She probably wouldn’t ever get a chance like this again, but she would wait, she needed to know exactly how safe she was, though she wouldn’t take a verbal confirmation as trustworthy, it somewhat helped, and so far other than her father he had not lied. She knew she was in danger, and that was enough to know that he was warning her, but how far would that warning go, sleep was now the last thing on her mind.

Unless Eclipse says something or whatever, Itachi is going hooome! Smile

She was so quick to doubt his good intentions, but he wasn’t offended enough to consider attempting to make her understand how wrong she was. He had only brought forth a message he thought would give her a slight advantage, and now when it was delivered, it was up to her to ignore or heed his words. The blue of her eyes stared, and the red of his had no issues handling the pressure of eye contact. It was usually others that eventually had to let their gaze fall away. Perhaps his ghostly serenity was uncommon and unsettling. Creatures brewed with life and purpose, but Itachi so often seemed empty for it all; a mere silhouette watching the lives of others, still and quickly overlooked like the gargoyle on the top of the stone passage, far above their busy lives.

”I only approached your fire to give you these words of advice, nothing more.” he replied to her worries about disappearing. Salsola was perhaps evil in the eyes of others, but not his. The Lykoi’s sense of justice and honour was different from what was commonly felt, he knew, and he was not about to preach to this girl about Salsola’s crude ways. If she was unlucky, she’d learn this soon enough. Hopefully she wouldn’t, ever. Perhaps he had approached her because there were grains of truth in the famous quotes about the importance of family, though he somewhat doubted this. But she was likely to be an innocent creature, much like the poor China that he time and time again had carried away from the approaching embrace of death. He simply believed that some creature brought colour to this world, even if he was unable to see it.

”Enjoy your meal, and hide your camp fire.” Wolves were blessed with fur designed to deal with the season’s temperatures, and only lives spoiled with luxury had made her accustomed to the merry warmth of dancing fire. But here, it could serve as a beacon of light to draw unkind predators, and now she was aware of that. His voluntary work was finished. The man turned away and moved to step back into the darkness, and would leave her with her thoughts.

She was quiet as she listened to his words. She frowned slightly and wondered, why did he want to give her advice? Especially when it went against his own pack. She squirmed a little, her mind racing as he told her to hide her fire. He was right and she would douse it as soon as she finished her cooking. That’s all she usually used it for anyway, but his words had put fear into her heart and made her far more wary. She moved a little more as he turned to leave and then blurted out.

“Is he really dead? If he is.... how... how do you know?”

She was sure he knew who she was talking about. At least that was what she assumed. He had, after all, given her the news of her own fathers death and seeing as she had not seen hide nor hair of the man, she had a feeling the possibility that he might be dead was true and that was why he didn’t come back to her, to take care of her as he had when she was younger. Her heart ached to know yet her mind was ever fearful for if she learned about his death... well she wasn’t sure her heart could take such a pain. But the possibility was there and she wanted to know, and if Itachi had told the truth, how could he have known? She looked at the back of him, hoping he would at least tell her before leaving, before making sure she was once again alone in the dark of the night, and fearful of what was now threatening her at the very moment. A pack who could just take her away. For now her mind was on her father and the rest she could worry about later.

Naturally, he paused as her voice rose up above the merry popping song of her camp fire. Perhaps he had been a fool to serve her the truth so readily first time the two had met. He had been bolder and younger then, and he could today recognize that day as a day where he had made a foolish move. Others had drawn impossible connections in the past, and so did she. But he could bear having his half-sibling hating him. So many did already, and it didn’t sting unless their weapons sank into his flesh and forced it on him. Eclipse was not a part of his life, and he didn’t want her to be. She was a mere stranger, shallowly connected to him because others claimed that family mattered.

”Your father is dead,” he confirmed, voice lacking the tone it should have when a son talked about his dead father. But objectivity had allowed him to know the monster that had created him, and Itachi hadn’t approved of the thought of allowing the man continue to roam freely without consequence. His mother would never thank him for his deed, but that wasn’t what he was out after. His hand had leaped to pierce through the other man’s body, and that was all there was. Itachi was one of many children that should never have existed.

”I know because I was the one that murdered him.” It wasn’t the sound of a bomb dropping. It’s wasn’t much of anything, only the honest truth, spoken by a creature that didn’t care. But he didn’t like the thought of her sitting waiting and hoping for someone that would never ever return to protect her from the world.
