The Roles We Play

As much as Bastion tended to only care about himself he had really taken to this parenthood thing. He could often be found spending time with Enigma. It was strange that he had actually worked towards raising the pup rather than eating him. But then again that had been thanks to Janos whom had wanted to keep the pup for his own. So Enigma had started as a gift to reward Janos for his services but had become Bastion's son over time. While Bastion still dressed up the boy for their trips outside of Salsola he could no longer pick him up and carry him around as he had before. Enigma was already proving that he was going to be a larger wolf than Bastion was. Honestly Bastion wouldn't be surprised if Enigma ended up as large as Janos was. But then again Bastion had grown used to being small and having others tower above him. It was just the plague of having been born a runt and having survived into adulthood.

So as had become a common occurrence Bastion had bathed himself and Enigma within a floral scented bath, having used dried flowers rather then fresh ones, and dressed them both in the undergarments that they wore as a regular form of clothing. While Bastion wore his panties as he had been instructed to do in order to keep his mark of Salsola covered up he simply placed Enigma in diapers in order to get the boy used to wearing clothing outside of Salsola. After all once Enigma got older he would have to receive his mark and then would have to wear some sort of cover up. Bastion figured it was simply easier to get Enigma used to it at a young age so that he wouldn't have the uncomfortable time with it that Bastion had. After all Bastion hadn't bothered with clothes or scented baths before he had joined up with Salsola so it had taken some getting used. Of course now it had become a routine for him.

So once both parties were prepared and dressed Bastion took Enigma outside of Salsola in order to run around and play. It was something else that had quickly become a habit for him. Bastion placed distance between the pair and Salsola's borders so that they couldn't be attributed to the pack and show others where to find the hidden kingdom. He went to the usual spot where he tended to play with Enigma at. It was a good distance from Salsola but still remaining close enough that should something go wrong then it could be reached or called out to quickly enough.

The falling snow proved to be an entertainment for both of the scantily-clad males. But as said before the clothing was simply for the covering of a mark and not warmth. After all their thick fur was enough to protect them from the cold. Both males had been born within Canada and had lineage that provided them with thick fur to aide them in the cold winter months. So yes, Bastion delighted in the fact that he didn't need to add on more layers. After all his clothing choice had simply been because it covered him up and didn't hinder movement. He didn't know what he would do if he had to wear more than what he was wearing. Probably would throw a fit, that seemed the most likely option.

Bastion giggled as he cupped his hands together to dig into the snow that had collected upon the ground and lifted it up. Quickly he tossed it in Enigma's direction, giggling and laughing even more as it stuck to the four month old wolf's fur. For both males it acted as their first winter. Or well, this was the first one that Bastion had actually been able to be free and play as he wished to do. His first actual winter had been stuck, being mostly ignored, in the back of a den. So now that he had a child of his own he got to enjoy the winter and snow as he hadn't been able to do when he was a pup.

Enigma attempted to shake off the snow that clung to his fur, getting rid of some of it though a few flakes still clung to his side. Since he was still too young to shift the only way that he could toss about snow was to dig at it. And so he tried to do such without much success but eventually gave it up to just run about and chase Bastion around, attempting to pounce upon the panty-clad male to knock him into the snow. It was an entirely usual game for them, one of chase or else hide and seek. They were simple games but ones where the participants easily lost themselves to it and forgot all about time and their surroundings. And for just that reason Janos usually worried and, in his own way, would caution Bastion. Most time Janos would even insist upon tagging along but such couldn't happen if he had a job to do and so he simply had to trust that Bastion could look after himself and Enigma should there be any sort of trouble. Not that such was an impossibility. While Bastion wasn't the most physically competent out there he made up for it through other means. After all Bastion had to care for himself before he had Janos around to take care of him. But then again Bastion typically always had someone else that he had broken to serve as his puppy prior to Janos. None of them stacked up against Janos though. Janos was most certainly the best puppy that he had ever had. And now, given their current relationship, Janos could never be replaced. Not that Bastion had been looking to replace Janos anyways. So even if Bastion couldn't protect himself physically he was still able to do okay for himself. He had talked himself out of situations before, many thinking him simple-minded and therefore leaving him to his own devices. Or else they tough him to be a child still. Either way he was able to use his mind to get him out of trouble.

Word Count → 347 :: Finally! Sorry for the wait; couldn't seem to conjure a suitable response for this one.

Antykk strolled along the bay, his four-legged form a muscled spot against the shoreline. His head hung low, his mind engulfed in contemplative thoughts as he wandered in no particular direction. Eventually he would seek food, but not yet...he had no need for it yet.

The snow grew deeper as he moved away from the water's edge and farther inland, slowing his steps and chilling even his flesh. His nose tilted skyward as he caught the scent of another on the wind...and another still. Two creatures in the distance, part of a pack as well...a familiar pack, even the same that Eris belonged to. Was Fate to bring them together again? No, another sniff revealed that this creature was male, as was the second. Curiosity alone encouraged his speed now, as he trekked farther inland in an attempt to greet these strangers...that is, if they were friendly. If not, he knew well enough how to defend himself.

Soon the figures were visible as Antykk came to a stop at the top of a small hill. Two males played in the snow below, both in optime form. Finding it suitable to be on equal grounds with the strangers just as he had done with the dark lady, he shifted to his optime form as well, concentrating on the lengthening of his limbs and the contortion of his overall frame. He pushed his dark hair from his face as he stepped forward, his tail swaying lazily behind him...and then he stopped. How had he not seen it before? The second male was a child...a young boy just as his own had been before the tragedy that haunted his every dream and tainted his every waking moment. Neff... he muttered, as if weakly trying to call out to the boy that had suddenly taken on his son's features in his mind's eye. But reason soon forced him to acknowledge the fact that his child was long gone, and this one belonged to the other male. He stood still, his tall figure slumped in resignation a safe distance from the pair.

Table & Coding © Nuki; Bastion and Enigma would smell like flowers and not of a pack as scents are always masked before leaving, such as the floral bath mentions. Also, Enigma is too young to shift just yet so he is stuck in lupus form and only Bastion is in Optime; 303 words

Bastion enjoyed playing out in the snow with Enigma. Some might said that he was slacking off but as he hadn't a loner in capture there was nothing for him to do besides to take care of his son. Sure, he could have probably looked for something else to do but why waste this day? Sure, he practically had time off whenever he wanted simply because of his rank. Of course there was no doubt that Bastion took advantage of this, how could he not?

If it was not for Enigma then it was likely that the other male would have gone unnoticed. But as it was the pup spotted the other figure and yipped out a greeting. His tail wagged happily behind him before the few months old male bounded over to the other. Enigma growled playfully as he lowered his front half to the ground in invitation for the other to come play as well.

"Nigma?" Bastion called out after the pup once he had run off. Bastion moved to follow after the pup and see where he had wandered off to. It was upon having chased after the other did Bastion finally notice that they were no longer alone. "Hello." The single word of greeting was given to the larger male. It was a simple greeting but that was the way Bastion was. But hey, at least Bastion had bothered to acknowledge the other male rather than ignoring him completely. As for what more needed to be said Bastion could think of nothing. For all he knew the other male could have just been passing through and Enigma had caused him to pause. Or perhaps the other was in the search of something. Whatever it was Bastion wouldn't know until the other chose to speak again and perhaps explain himself.
