The monotony that was the daily lives of the Wentworth Ichikan wolves came to a literally screeching halt in a display of speckled feathers and flaunting talons. To dispel his boredom with the static lives of the earthbound wolves, the nameless owl had taken off in search of amusement, spanning a great distance in so little a time since gifted with flight. And to his searching eyes, he spied an event of wonderment; a gathering of earthbound creatures and their counterparts. Collections of objects both mundane and rare, tests of strength and finesse pitted against each other. It was a celebration of sorts, a melting pot of beings and wares.

He had to make his master the wiser to it or risk the monotony of the days never ending.

And so upon his return, he assaulted the air with his cries and tales of what he had seen. He hovered above the Wentworth wolves’ dens, coaxing them to rise at the first light and greet with wonderful news with attentive ears. Bonded as she was to the creature, X’yrin would be the first to greet him. Her disposition was considerably better over the past few days but it was not without a remnant of the dulled glaze to her usually brilliant orbs. Though she managed to smile, albeit it was weighed with fatigue. The rest of her form was in a considerable disarray lacking the meticulous grooming tongue or the determined dexterous fingers to weave the wild auburn strands into neat and orderly braids. She looked the part of a wild, tired creature, bent on appeasing her companion if only to silence him and steal a few more moments to herself and rest.

But it was to no avail. Upon seeing her, the nameless bird swept down to her shoulder immediately gently clasping her shoulder as he went on to talk of what he had seen with a stolen autumn lock bothered within his beak. He was more animated than she had ever seen him before, wings unfurled and waving as he exclaimed with contagious energy. As he went on, the woman’s tail wagged excitedly whilst she whined in mirth. The image in her head became of one of the Nomads setting camp with neighboring packs as they offered their wares and knowledge for goods. From her companion’s excitable explanation, this set up was very much like that and awarded an opportunity to take part in that wonder once again.

finally got back to using a table

The morning had been blissfully uneventful, a morning he cherish as he laid still sleepily dazing, prolonging the coming day as much as possible. The warmth of his faithful mate gave him a sense of belonging even if for the time being his future within the pack itself was still playing in his mind. The conflict of a peace loving pack harboring the likes of him was almost comical. The butcher, the demon hiding away in a pack of Hippies and the gentle. Was it their simple world view, their naivety that made him wish he could regain that from long ago. When he viewed the world as simple, that good would spread just from simple small acts. Where had his view of the world gone so complicated? Where others saw opportunities for peace, he saw weakness and posturing. Where others saw aggressive displays as a means to change someone, he only saw it as a challenge.

Before he had made the move to this land, it had been simple, to channel his rage into the orders he would be given. To descend into madness and come out unscathed by his acts, covering his actions by the age old cry of just following orders. When had the line began to blur? Where did righteous acts stop and butchery start? And was he so far removed from that part of him to think he wasn’t capable of such deplorable acts again? There was a time he thought it all behind him, the short year in Dahlia, the utopia he had thought he had found there. He was so happy then, remembering all the faces that populated the flower pack. It dawned on him why as he thought it over, the reason Dahlia was such a fit, in the end was because it wasn’t a pack pretending to be something against it’s nature. He fit in there because he was a lost soul in need of a home, not that he had to adhere to some strict guidelines, no he kept himself in check because of the people there not because he had to follow the peaceful pack rules.

Often times he found himself thinking in such a way, always plagued by the past, no matter how hard he’d tried to think past it toward the future, the past haunted him. While X’y would sleep beside him, he’d contemplate himself, trying to reason it all out. His morning meditation as it was, was interrupted though, by the bird his mate seemed to be rather fond of. His sickness had finally left him and he was recovering well but being interrupted so early he hated the bird for a moment. It didn’t take long but his mind made the logical conclusion, such waking up either meant trouble or something important. Either way it was best he get up.

X’y was much quicker than he was about getting up, his massive frame slowly woke up, body popping, like a great metal giant as he came alive. His eyes were greeted by the sun and then by his mates wagging tail as she listened the bird chirp and speak in a language he wasn’t familiar with. What his eyes caught though was a bit more distracting, her backside, rather her tail wagging and the beautiful shot he had just then of her. Again he never claimed he’d behave all the time.

“What’s going on X’y”

Before her companion could go on and further grate her ears with his excitable screeching, she hurriedly clasped a hand around his beak, chuckling softly as the bird looked at her indignantly. “Please be calm,” she voiced with a tired smile played upon her lips. She could only catch so much of his words before it all sounded like a jumbled mass. But she couldn’t blame him, this news of the gathering was exciting! But with the silencing of his chatter she was able to hear movement from the inside of the den and witnessed her mate emerge to see what was going on just outside. She released her companion then shrugged her shoulder for him to take flight in gesture to wake their neighbors with the news. The nameless bird was all too willing to comply and left the warrior pair be to talk amongst themselves.

Whether it was chosen to be acknowledged or not, there was tension between the Envoy pair brought on by the events that had transpired and the increasingly differed views harbored by the two of them. In her mind, the Exultare female still believed herself to be a failure; robbed of the joy she wished to experience while her loving mate had mentally set himself apart from the pack they called home. It was distasteful to her to know that her mate did not favor all of Ichika as family… but it was not misunderstood. Perhaps they shared the same ideals of the pack but chose to go about it differently; he would rather exploit the pack as a whole as weak, whilst she’d rather ignore it and muster what strength she could do defend it. But it was driving the both of them ragged and irritable, X’yrin more so than her mate. And the suppression of her jealousy could only be concealed so much…

Upon seeing the tired face of her beloved her excitable tail slowed to a leisurely fan of the cool air and smile lessened to a humble turn of her lips. Her eyes had fallen to the snow, averted from this glacier blues as her ears too sunk with the depress of her mood. She did not dislike him…in fact she had loved him more as the days wore on… but given her burden, her feelings of worthlessness, she did not feel she deserved to look at him. “We didn’t mean to cause a fuss,” she apologized meekly for her now gone companion. “He was excited about a gathering taking place not far from here. All kinds of people have come together to exchange their items and participate in events. There was dancing and sparring, and trading of all kinds. It sounds like a festival.” Bravely, she lifted her eyes to meet his from beneath the overgrowth of bangs. “The Nomads used to hold events like this when we travelled to familiar pack lands of which we had good relationships with. We used to trade out crafts and our skills for passage… we even offered mates to the eligible to strengthen our bonds with our stationary neighbors. What he has described sounds fairly similar…”

He watched her, his facial expression a mix of worry and intrigue. Blues watched her response, the subtle way her body reacted to his presence. It worried him a bit, as he took it all in, after all he wasn’t the easiest brute to love, but he really didn’t want her to fear him. The giant rested his hands on his hips, as her words started to flow into his ears. The excitement behind them was picked up on right away, as the octaves of her voice carried higher as she let her excitement come through more. He simply smiled, the warmth in it slowly showing, knowing he wouldn’t be able to keep her from this event.

“hrm, that does sound interesting. Maybe I can find a few things I need to finish off my blacksmithing shop, and maybe some customers.” He mused idly, knowing that stating his interest in such an event might give her the okay to warm up to him. His body moved towards her on auto pilot, hands leaving his hips and finding hers.

“I don’t think I can say no to this, and we haven’t really had a proper honeymoon, so if you’d like to go we can. “ he stated simply, “but I doubt I could find anyone to take you off my hands at this fair, mating you off to someone in all. Wonder what someone would offer me for you” he teased her with a gentle laugh. “Doubtful you could get a lump of coal for me”

omnomnomnom

Morning had come earlier today than it had yesterday and the young male was hopeful that winter was beginning to wane. He'd woken in the new den, curled up close to Nayru and their respective children. To an outsider, their relationship would surely look more than it was. They were friends, close friends if they were both to be honest, that now lived together for mutual benefit. They probably would have ended up living together if their fates hadn't pushed them closer, but it was what it was. He needed her to nurse Temeraire until he no longer needed milk, and she needed him for food and protection. Saul still spent a lot of time near the borders, checking and fixing anything that was broken, seeing if there were any foreign scents around here. While there was nothing he could do just yet if there was someone out there, he was still doing his job by patrolling. So far, he hadn't found anything of alarm. Nayru seemed pleased enough at his work and he was more than happy to return to her every evening with at least something for her to eat.

He could feel the general happiness bubbling up in him as he moved away from the den they'd established themselves in. He needed to go and find X'yrin and Saluce. Nayru had just recieved a messenger from the Festival organisers and Saul wanted to see if his adopted father and his mate would want to come. After this meeting he was going to go and find Eclipse, Melee and Range and invite them along. It was a good opportunity for all of them, although they would have to strategise who would be staying home. The whole of Ichika couldn't just up and leave for the festival and leave their home lands open for invasion. If there was any time that someone would launch and attack, it would be now. Green eyes were bright with excitement as he neared the den that had been his temporary home just a few days ago.

"Saluce? X'y?" He called, emerging from a bush to find them talking close together. He didn't want to intrude on a private moment, but he'd already walked out and was in plain sight. Ears dipping back and eyes averted respectfully to both of them, he approached with a small smile. "I didn't mean to interupt... I just got some good news from Nayru that I wanted to share." He said, glancing up and catching Saluce's grey eyes. He looked better than a few days ago and Saul was pleased to see that he'd managed to shift. He waited, knowing that they would address him momentarily.

ooc:

She didn’t know what to anticipate his reaction to be, only that he might think of her as silly for getting excited over the idea of a gathering like this. Beneath her winter coat, she felt her neck and face warm as again she looked down at the snow to avoid his eyes. Her tail curled by its tip between her thighs, lightly wagging between the subtle span. She should have been better controlled with her emotions. He had only just recovered from his illness and rest was still a necessity for him to regain full animation of his body. Their excitable behavior was causing just the opposite of that.

But when the sound of his voice came lightly lacking the irritation from disturbed sleep, she lifted her head to look at him, her expression nothing short of wonderment and then ease as her tensed form relaxed. “You would want to go?” was what she could think to say to affirm that this was what he was alluding to. He hadn’t thought she was silly for being excited for this? Her eyes brightened as the lush tail withdrew from her thighs and swung at leisure. They would go if she wanted to, naming it something called a ‘honeymoon’, yet another cultural different that went beyond her understanding. But she smiled none the less as her excitement was shown through more fervent sweeps of her tail. When he made a jest about her own cultures comparison to this event, she lifted a bold finger to his muzzle and none too gently prodded the soft black flesh of his nose. “If we were with my people, you would not be able to trade me off anyway. I am the first born of the Exultare Shepard and am meant to take his place. The second born would have been more beneficial to trade as a mate. And why would you think you could not get a lump of coal? Isn’t coal useful?” she asked with all the innocence of the world in her voice, completely missing the implications of a joke.

She went on to explain the usefulness of coal until she was interrupted by the approach of her mate’s surrogate son. Followed closely behind him was the large, speckled body of her companion whom had taken it upon himself to perch on the young male’s shoulder. Within the gentle encasing of her beloved’s arms she turned her attention to the two with a smile. “Goodday to you Saul.” She managed to free herself and walked over to the boy and placed an endearing paw on his head. “You weren’t interrupting us,” she assured him. “But please tell this good news from Lady Nayru. My friend there has actually told us something very interesting we intended to share as well.”

As her tail started to wag, the infectious behavior spread to his own as it started to wag enthusiastically. Their arms intertwined each other, and she went into a long winded speech on the uses of coal and how it was valuable, if he hadn’t known her as well as he did he would have laughed uncontrollably, but he knew that the joke didn’t translate to her. But however her long winded speech was just meant to explain how important he was, to her. The past month had been rough on the two, he felt as if he was a teenager again, everything that didn’t happen that was supposed to happen upset him. Her not carrying his children was a blow that they both suffered from, she had wanted to be a mother so badly and him wanting to finally be a father to his own children, but it hadn’t meant to be so early yet. For now it seemed that they needed to continue their path before the grand creator decided they were ready for such a task.

The two of enjoying the moment, his beautiful queen, blues fiercely looking upon her with such adoration, finally feeling like himself again. But their soft little moment was not to last as the approaching stormbringer made his presence known. It wasn’t an unwelcomed breach, his blues turned to the Saul with a loving look, glad to have the boy or rather man now so close to him again. He had been rather upset at the knowledge that he too had fathered a child, much like Nayru had mothered a child without their partner or rather short lived partner there to help. But he couldn’t have come at a better time, he knew the bond between the two was strong, and he hoped that if they didn’t become mates, that the two of them would bond as deep friends and another family bond would grow stronger.

His mate seemed to jump out of his arms and into Sauls and he stood there watching the exchange with a grin across his face. Hands sitting at his hips as the exchange took place.

“What news Saul? Has my grandson said his first words?” he said in jest.
