(309) Can we backdate this before Larkspur's funeral and death? Eris would be completely different. @_@ If it mucks up your timeline, it's not a big deal for me, we'll just pretendykins it happens whenever is convenient for both of us. ^_^ Will send the pNPC away ASAP as soon as Maggie shows up; they're essentially just walking along the northernmost part of the Borgata Mapache, next to the stone wall.

Eris is by Requiem!

Salsola's claim had expanded. The dark-furred woman and Sirius had claimed more territory for their many canines and slaves and members -- horses, too, were part of this decision. It was hoped that perhaps someday, the barn houses and cottages to the north might be converted to some purpose, that they might strengthen the low and broken stone wall ringing this farmland. Eris though such precautions a certain necessity -- Salsola was under attack, at war.

At first, the dark-furred hybrid was quick to suspect Ichika of hiring mercenaries, even of New Dawn wishing to exterminate its southerly neighbors. She had thought on Anathema and Inferni, even, despite the good standing of their packs. For one reason or another, each of these were disregarded as a potential source of the attacks. They were wolves, they were well-armed, and they did not appear to be mercenaries. The shadow-furred coyote was frightened by these attacks, but the calm demeanor and quiet promises of extermination of her Boss had calmed her somewhat, and the dark-furred coyote was attempting to do as he instructed: get on with life, and continue living it.

Helias tagged along after her, eager to please as always. She had accepted him to the pack primarily based on this eagerness, hoping he would be one of the first to volunteer in an offensive. He might be useless or he might be the best warrior on the peninsula -- either way, he was a body to place on the front lines, before the more valuable Salsolians. She was busily explaining various tenants of Salsola's culture to him, just in case he survived these next few weeks. His eagerness made it likely he was a good choice for Salsola, one who would pick up all facets of their culture thanks to a simple desire to belong somewhere.

yeah, that’s fine, though since she became pregnant april 7th…. Whatever. Don’t care. XD LETS DO THIS
(309)

The silver lady had finally started taking care of her duties again, especially after the invasion. Just like she used to, she got up early and headed towards her beloved border. Despite all her bitterness surrounding her kidnapping, when the alarm rang out, she immediately knew what had to be done. She once again went against her own personal morals by killing yet again for her home; his dead eyes haunted her in her sleep and every time she blinked. But, like everything else in life, this would pass. Her pain would eventually fade with time as well... but until that day came, Maggie walked with a heavy heart.

The Confidant slowly made her way north, choosing to walk through the borders because of the nice weather. It was finally warm enough that she didn’t need Jasper to make her rounds quicker, and was content to check the traps on foot. Kimbra flew above her master, swerving and flying around making Maggie’s job just a little bit easier. She hummed quietly to herself, eyes widening in happiness because green was finally starting to reappear in the forests.

A vague trail of Eris-scent wafted by her nose. She sniffed, and followed it quietly. She had avoided her superiors after the kidnapping, mostly because she was afraid of what they would say. She had failed them all by getting kidnapped. Sirius pulled through for her, though, which meant her life had at least some value to her leaders. But she knew Eris was kind to her, and was not afraid as she approached. The trees thinned out to show one of their new recruits with the brilliant Auxiliary. Maggie smiled, looking directly at the dark woman. “Long time no see, Eris,” she said calmly, giving a little wave to the newcomer as she spoke. Kimbra squawked above, reminding her master of her presence and her desire to stay close.

Eris is by Poppz!

The dark-furred woman was finishing a poignant (at least, Eris thought so) explanation of their ideals of secrecy. Helias seemed to understand this, responding with the same eagerness he'd given all else she'd spoken to him. The smile across his face was beginning to irritate her, but at least she could find no direct fault with the wolfdog. He was smart and capable, and always seemed to have a quip to offer following her introduction of a particular tenant of Salsolian life. Most seemed in support of their ideals, but others -- she was not certain.

The sable-furred hybrid was spared further discourse with the new Associate as another approached, a pale silver streak against the pale grays and browns of the trees. Eris turned her head and saw Magnolia approaching. Quickly, she spun back to Helias, matching his grin with a poisonous one of her own. Away with you -- I have Family business to attend to, she said, smartly, and stepped from him and toward the cloud-colored wolf, ending the conversation there. She heard the wolfdog shuffle away behind her but did not turn to look.

Magnolia! She stepped forward and extended not only the usual greeting of one Salsolian to the other, but went so far as to wrap both arms around the silvery woman's shoulders, squeezing her tightly for a moment before she stepped back, both hands still lightly touching both the woman's shoulders. You look very well, she said, her surprise evident. I thought you might have received rougher treatment while... in our neighbors' care. The coal-furred woman sniffed this last, half a tooth evidence enough of her feelings toward the foreign pack.

[html]don’t be silly. Of course Magz loves Erishugs<3

The joy that was evident on her superior’s face was enough to let the darkness slip on her face for just a moment. The Confidant gleefully hugged her dark friend with just as much exuberance as Eris had for her; when it was over, Maggie was beaming. She couldn’t help it, she loved the peculiar woman before her.

“Thank you,” she said simply. “Turns out peace-loving hippies don’t particularly like hurting their captives, so it worked out for the best,” she grinned, thinking about Sage. She had been so strange, just like how Foxglove turned out strange. Magnolia did not understand that way of life, and probably wouldn’t for the rest of her life.

Not wanting to get left behind, the Kite swooped in to the scene and perched herself daintily on her master’s shoulder. Maggie nuzzled her companion before looking back to her Auxiliary. Thoughts of Eris’ children came to the silver-furred girl. “I saw Arte the other day…. She has turned into a wonderful creature, you should feel very proud,” The Confidant couldn’t stop smiling; she really liked that little one. Arte had always been sweet and playful, and just maybe Maggie’s favorite of the litter.

Eris is by Savannah!

Weaklings, the hybrid sniffed, that same tone of disdain in her voice. If nothing else, the raids had served to establish a firm peace between the two packs -- at least, until someone broke it. The dark-furred hybrid had no particular dislike of Ichika no Ho-en -- the pack had done nothing to her or Salsola, after all. It was simply a matter of business: Salsola had sensed weakness, and so they chose to strike at this weakness. At least, this was how it was in the dark-furred hybrid's mind.

A bird swept down to land upon the silvery woman's shoulder, and Eris took a step back, frowning, though this was the only surprise she showed, and even this was fast to fade as she saw the bond between master and companion. What a pretty bird, she murmured, more to herself than to Magnolia. Her chartreuse eyes appraised its sharp beak and sleek wings -- despite owning her own owl, the dark-furred hybrid hadn't the first clue about training a bird (her own was not).

Her attention was drawn from the bird with Magnolia's words, and the dark-furred hybrid could not help but smile at the silvery woman's words. She is so very dear to me, the coyote sighed, smiling. Thank you -- she will grow to be a wonderful adult, the hybrid added, pausing thoughtfully. But not alone -- all Salsola's strength gives her strength.

Maggie continued to pet Kimbra carefully, making sure to not mess up her feathers. The bird cooed as Eris spoke of her daughter, as if she was making her own remark about the not-so-little one. When Eris spoke of strength, the Confidant nodded. “Yes, we are all as great as the sum of our parts, Arte is no exception to this,” she breathed quietly, thinking. Artemisia could very well lead in her lifetime, should the Thistle Kingdom rely on blood more than loyalty to pick its leaders. But that would only happen should Sirius’ life end abruptly… which was something, despite her preconceived opinions of her leader, that depressed the silver-furred woman. Sirius was the glue that kept them all together, working towards the goal of pack success.

“How have you been lately, my queen? I haven’t seen you in many moons,” It was true; she did truly miss the Auxiliary when they weren’t together. Eris seemed somewhat of an older sister to Magnolia, one that didn’t leave or betray her. The hybrid held her tail high, wagging slightly, a product of Maggie’s good mood surrounding her newly found company.

Eris is by Libri!

The dark-furred woman considered Magnolia carefully. This woman was different than the child that had come to her at Larkspur's request, so many months ago. Magnolia was one of the first to enter their midst, and this had not left the dark-furred woman's mind. Her strength had been a part of Salsola's for many long months now. Talk of her daughter made Eris proud, to be sure, but she did not wish to spend the next hours raving about Artemisia. Eris had seen far more of her daughter than her Confidant in the past months, after all.

My children have kept me busy, the dark-furred coyote responded, rolling a sable-furred shoulder in a shrug. The pressures of the pack, too, she said. Neither was stated as a lamentation, but there was some faint hint of mourning in her voice. She did not have the luxuries of excessive free time -- what little she had, she devoted to the weir or some other project requiring her attention or direction. There was always some new slave to be trained, some new Associate to be taught, some prospect or threat in the outlands.

Let's not dwell too much on those -- I spend enough time with them, she said, grinning broadly. I was walking with Helias and scouting the extent of our new borders. Would you walk with me? There are human bits and pieces, different from the village, the hybrid said, gesturing in one direction and then the next. Tell me about what you have been up to, please.

Seeing Eris grin like a child made Maggie’s mouth mimic the same behavior, even letting out a little chuckle when the Auxiliary asked her about her recent behavior. Lately Maggie’s life had been a one ridiculous situation after the other. Maggie started walking in the direction of the new land, motioning for the other woman to do the same. “I got a horse, from Inferni. A sweet white boy named Jasper. He has made scouting the borders infinitely easier,” The horse was indeed a fine specimen; his muscles were tight with strength and was incredibly fast. He made the borders a morning and night ritual; mornings were for trap checks and the nights were for long rides around the border.

“Denver hates horses though, so he always makes a fuss. It’s quite entertaining, when we ride together,” At the mention of the poodle-wolf she burst into a fit of girly giggles. “He’s so weird sometimes,” she looked to Kimbra who shifted her weight around on the hybrid’s shoulder, as if she had no opinion of the man.

Up ahead, Maggie spotted a human structure, similar to the one she ran into a few days prior. “I found a house… or something, a shack maybe, I don’t know it was small… but anyway, it was filled with liquor somewhere nearby. It might not be bad for the pack to take the stockpile,” Maggie was always in pack-mode; hard-wired to act for the greater good of the Thistle Kingdom. Telling Eris about her little secret treasure trove was no different.

Eris is by Poppz!

The dark-furred coyote had spent little time considering Inferni lately, and at Magnolia's mention of the pack, she gave a considering look. Sirius was courting more closeness than she might have liked with her cousins and nieces and nephews in the coyote pack, but neither had Inferni committed any offenses against Salsola. On the contrary, the coyotes had been downright respectful of Salsola's borders, and Eris had heard of no trouble brewing between the two packs.

She smiled at the mention of Denver, shaking her head. Eris did not have as thorough an understanding of horses as her mate, nor did she wish to have one -- the dark-furred coyote was content to simply use Salsola's communal horses without owning one of her own. The idea had simply never appealed so greatly to her that she would run out and find a horse to trade for, but if one happened into her possession, well -- she couldn't very well deny such a wonderful opportunity.

Denver, the woman mused, thinking of the wolfdog fondly. He was quieter than Magnolia, but he, too, had the distinction of long-time membership with the thistle kingdom. Weirdness is good sometimes, the hybrid said, more loudly. Still, there was a small smile on her muzzle, and she looked toward Magnolia expectantly, her eyes lingering on the bird over her shoulder. He makes you laugh, weird as he is.

With the suggestion, the dark woman nodded enthusiastically. Surely. We can bring back whatever we can carry for now, the hybrid said, nodding to Maggie and indicating she ought to take the lead. Eris did not know where this stockpile was, after all.

[html]sorry for the delay!

Maggie nodded to her superior, the smile on her face almost plastered on. Denver was her other half in so many ways; lover, scout, and best friend. She loved him in a weird sort of way and especially since the last time they interacted she hadn’t been able to get him out of her head. “He means the world to me,” she said quietly, jade eyes meeting Eris’ chartreuse ones. She agreed to the walk, and after a little looking at the sky and her surroundings, headed off in a slightly different direction towards the building.

The women walked in silence for a while, Maggie’s mind churning with what to say. She desperately wanted to talk to Eris about matters of her heart, but she was unsure. It wasn’t her place to just vent at her superior about the wolf she may or may not have feelings for, or if such things were even allowed. Maggie was so naïve about love, or sex, having no one around when she was younger to tell her about it. Niro surely tried to talk to her once or twice, when she was younger, especially when Jiva was born. But now, she had no ally and no one to lead her in the right direction.

“Here we are,” Maggie said after a while, the shack coming into view after a while. “It’s mostly wine, but still delicious. I hope it serves the pack well,” she said happily, beaming at her dark friend. Thoughts returned to Denver, and the girl was mentally whisked away to just a few nights ago, when the very same bottles were being consumed and possible mistakes were being made.

Eris is by Kiri, a gift from Sylvey!

As the matriarch of the Family, was she not supposed to guide those of Salsola toward mateships and relationships? It was her duty to strengthen the familial bonds between those within her pack, just as it was Sirius's duty to lead them to glory. She was quiet, however, as the pair of canines walked away from the center of Salsolian territory and into the outskirts. Eris was unafraid -- the area just around Salsola was well-traversed and known to the pack -- there was no danger here.

The shack was a downtrodden and sorry thing, with boards separating wherever there were boards to separate. The roof seemed sagging, perhaps even partially caved, and the whole place smelled faintly of rot -- but all of this was just fine, for as the hybrid shuffled toward the building and popped open the door, she saw cabinets along the walls, some of them stocked with full bottles. Others had empty bottles, and still others had broken bottles.

Oh, yes, the hybrid breathed, stepping inside of the small shack. It was not dimly lit, thanks to the chinks between the wood paneling allowing the innards of the shack some sunlight. Pale golden shafts split the relative gloom of the shack, and the dark hybrid stepped forward, selecting a bottle entirely at random. Should we celebrate? she asked, turning back to Maggie with the bottle held up and in a ray of light. The contents were dark, but clear and free of any adulterations or molding.

Nnnnng sorry for the wait. And table later... On my iPhone typing this aha

The shack had been very out of the way of the usual borders, so the pale woman was glad she had not been reprimanded for finding such a place. Her duty was to the safety and security of their borders, and the girl did not take this job lightly... If anything she took it more seriously than Denver. Her little weapon was still wrapped around her neck, the knife did not leave her chest until she was going to bed. Even then the weapon stayed very close to her side.

The Auxiliary seemed content with the find... Seeing her friend and superior pleased with her work made the little confidants heart swell and threaten to burst. But Eris asked a question, and Maggie was unsure of how to respond. She knew the liquid was for special occasions, though at the moment she could not think of any. "That would be lovely. What should we celebrate, your grace?" Maggie had no knowledge of the human tradition of toasting; if she had, this would have been a good time for one. As she waited for her dark companion to respond, she went into the shack and took a different (but similarly colored) bottle for her own. Maggie had never figured out how to open them correctly; instead, she did she usually did, taking the neck of the bottle to the creaky buildings door frame. It shattered after a few tries. The broken glass made her a little nervous to drink out of, but she grinned at Eris nonetheless.

Eris is by James!

The dark-furred hybrid considered the question with a grin even as she watched Magnolia open the bottle. Her manner was crude, but Eris was not about to interrupt -- uncorking such a bottle required some kind of finesse and she would make herself look a fool to intercede only to struggle in her own way. Life, Salsola, your service, mine, the dark woman said, rolling both shoulders in a shrug. She crouched down close to contemplate a pair of dusty bottles, drawing them out of hiding. She had barely set her hand upon one when it seemed to disintegrate in her hand, the glass shattering with the slight motion. The hybrid drew back sharply, the other bottle in hand. It, thankfully, remained intact, but she wrinkled her nose at the scent of vinegared wine from the ruin of the other bottle.

The woman settled down on her haunches and inspected the bottle she held, dusting off the label with careless fingers. She could not read whatever language it was written in. Setting it down, she peered about the shack. Signs of wear and tear were everywhere, and the structure seemed to slump. Nonetheless, it was a secluded hiding space, providing quite enough privacy. The dark woman looked to Magnolia then, appraising her with an amused gaze. You've found quite a private place here... have you shared it with anyone else, I wonder? the Auxiliary inquired, grinning broadly. They'd already spoken of Denver -- it was not so far a stretch for Eris to infer this.

While she had always craved Eris’ attention when she first got here, she was surprised at how informal the Auxiliary interacted with her now. Maggie always thought her superior was all about appearances, never one to relax in front of a subordinate… but they were family, after all, and if Eris wanted to celebrate with her, Maggie would be more than happy to oblige. The silver Confidant felt more at ease now, honestly thrilled with the idea that Eris wanted to spend time with her in such a manner. “All wonderful things worth celebrating,” the girl said simply, grinning and then drinking deeply from the shattered bottle top. It was easier to drink than the past finds she had in this ruin, it was sweet and flavorful and truly enjoyable.

Maggie considered Eris’ question carefully. “I haven’t taken anyone here, but a while ago I brought back some of the alcohol for Denver and I… this stuff makes you do silly things sometimes,” her grin was wicked, almost like she wanted to divulge what happened between them to Eris. But she wasn’t quite sure if it was appropriate or not, and Maggie wasn’t exactly the type of girl to divulge such sensitive information. Instead of talking more, Maggie put the glass up to her lips again, gulping down the stuff happily.

Eris is by Libri!

Eris was not particularly endeared to alcohol -- she much preferred her smokeables and other entheogens, the more powerful substances that lent clarity to the mind. Alcohol, however, was a wonderfully cathartic sort of substance, allowing one to drown problems in fiery liquid and forget all of them, at least for a little while. The dark hybrid took the broken bottle and picked at the shattered glass, removing a few loose pieces, before she poured some into her mouth. Perhaps a bowl, she murmured, standing up to poke through the cabinets even as Magnolia spoke.

Silly things, she agreed, back turned. When she spun around again, she held a bowl in her hand. It was old ceramic with a chip along the rim and years of dirt in it, but it would do. The dark-furred hybrid offered the thing to Magnolia after wiping the inside relatively clean. They were canines, after all, and drank from natural water sources more muddied and dirty than this. Silly, but fun, she finally said, smiling a knowing sort of grin. Have you thought of mateship? she asked, throwing the question casually.

Her dark superior passed a bowl to her, which Maggie almost greedily snatched out of her friends' hands. "Good idea," she said, nodding her head in thanks. The wine was poured out of the broken, green bottle and into the aged bowl. Maggie lapped it up quickly, relishing in the fire that burned down her throat. After a long drink, she almost choked on the liquid as she pondered Eris' quesiton.

"Mateship?" The silver Confidant asked shakily; she hadn't expected that question at all. "Why, no...." They were just fooling around, right? She was practically still a kid, the thought hadn't crossed her mind at all. "Why?" It was a stupid question to ask, Maggie knew why; Mateship and family bonds were treasured in the Thistle Kingdom above pretty much everything else. And, after all, they did make a good team. They were both good at their job and were loyal subjects. Maggie imagined what that would be like, her mind in some far off land, far away from the present conversation.

Eris is by Poppz!

It was easy for Eris to forget how young the silvery woman was. She had proven herself to be such an ally for Salsola, such a good snatch from the southern Miracles kingdom, it was almost natural Eris equated Magnolia's age with her own, despite the clear disparity of such. The dark hybrid held her hands out for the bowl and tipped it back into her muzzle, careful not to spill any of the precious liquid. She did not answer until she'd licked her muzzle, chartreuse eyes sparkling with delight.

Well, she began, rolling her shoulders in a shrug. Mateship has benefits for you and Denver, if that's the road you choose to take. Promotion possibilities, and -- perhaps most important -- with the public declaration of a relationship, no more sneaking about. It's nothing another Salsolian might be able to hold over you, for example. The dark woman let this hang for a moment before she started, lifting a hand and putting it to her chest. Not me, of course, but if someone else caught wind of it, the hybrid frowned, shaking her head. She, of course, had no intent of prattling on about the relationship between the pair of scouts -- so long as it remained unprofitable to do so.

And -- well. Relationships, the ties of familial blood -- these give strength to Salsola, after all. She handed the bowl over, carefully holding it in both hands as she extended it toward Magnolia.

[html]maybe have Eris mention her pregnancy & wrap up soon? Smile

The young one's horrified looks waned as Eris spoke. Her words made sense; promotion and strengthening bonds for the sake of the pack were all things Maggie would love to do. Salsola was her first and foremost duty Maggie had almost forgotten that there were personal aspects of the pack she could take advantage of. But Sirius took no mate, and as far as Maggie knew Eris was the only one who had taken that vow. It was a serious deal to the girl. As a child that was not raised with two parents, she wanted to make sure that the man she vowed to stay with forever would be someone she wanted to be with for the rest of her life.

"Would we get in trouble if Sirius found out?" she feared her leader probably a little more than she should; she did not want him to hurt either her or Denver. She shrank back from Eris, looking at the bowl numbly. "I care for him, Eris, I really do, but I don't know...." it was difficult for Maggie to talk about it to Eris even if the dark woman was the only creature besides Larkspur that she trusted in this Kingdom. "What's it like, being with one canine forever?" If Maggie was going to do this, she wasn't about to take another man to bed. She hated her parents for being so promiscuous, and couldn't imagine hurting another the way Lolita had hurt Niro.

Eris is by Kiri, a gift from Sylvey!

The sable-hued Auxiliary considered the question with a tilt of her head, considering. Would Sirius care if he found out? She supposed it very much depended on the circumstances -- a viper of the lower ranks providing their beloved Boss with evidence of a tryst might be backhanded for trying to usurp a place within the pack by such insidious means, whereas one more trusted -- well. Eris wasn't certain, and she did not wish to speak for her leader. She gave a small shrug, a twitch of the shoulders. If he did care, he can be placated. Don't fret too much, the dark hybrid said, reaching out a reassuring hand and placing it on the other woman's knee.

She sighed and looked to the ceiling of the shack with the woman's question. It's good to have someone standing beside you in all things public, good to have someone you can rely on always. And -- children, being a mother... these are things which have given me the greatest joy. She paused, considering her children and each of their bright, eager faces. They were each beautiful and made of her blood and Larkspur's. But sometimes it doesn't last forever, too, the hybrid added, speaking truthfully. Some mateships can be ended. The coyote knew divorce was uncommon, but even failing that, there were still other escapes from mateship, and no one required faithfulness -- just the semblance of such.

[html]Meh, I like this thread. :3 Sorry its short, I seriously suck.

Maggie listened to her dark mentor as she spoke of mateship, and what came with it. The drunk girl cocked her head at the mention of ending mateships, a concept she wasn’t aware existed. “I don’t know,” she mumbled, wishing she didn’t disagree with Eris. “I don’t think I’d be a very good mother. I’d probably run away just like my own mother did,” the Confidant said bitterly. This was perhaps the first mention of Lolita to Eris ever. Maggie continued to force down the warm liquid, not really wanting to talk much. She wondered how much she could dare to divulge to Eris about her mother, her lover, or her past.
