Saul Lupus is by Alaine!

He didn't have words to describe this particular feeling at the moment. It was perhaps a mix of excitement, awe, apprehension and hope. Although it could be none of them, these were the words that came to mind as he walked. They'd made the same journey just a week before it seemed, but this journey was different. The steady steps of the horse beside him was an addition, as well as the steady wing beats of the falcon who flew above them. His families footsteps were joined by two more that hadn't been with them when they'd started the journey. He could almost feel the excitement vibrating from his cousins and he mirrored their move. His only constant was the flicker of his eyes towards his belle, wishing he could play games with her today. Today was far too important for games and it Hermes and Artan needed direction.

The horses were burdened with Saul's possessions as well as anything everyone else couldn't carry. They had to take regular breaks so the horses didn't get exhausted. But today was moving day, the formation of something new and exciting. Miskunn's influence was great and while Saul didn't know if he could commit to any kind of religion, he found himself silently asking Odin for success. He hoped that this would work, that they would find happiness up in the great forests. Their movement was relatively slow, but Saul was happy with the pace as it meant his horses could deal better with the loads they were carrying. Saul himself was laden with his possessions, the thick brown cloak he'd obtained so long ago swirling around his ankles and his medicine bag packed full of all his supplies.

The sense of de ja vu was strong as they walked, easy chatter bounced between them. Saul laughed frequently, although this was usually due to Bran or Niernan's antics. Their journey north was taken in overcast skies, although this perhaps helped them greatly with the weight the horses were taking. Mostly though, the journey was a bit of a blur. It was afternoon by the time they had crossed around Amherst. Their destination was the village, aptly named Jordheim by Miskunn who informed them all that the name literally meant Earth House. Saul liked the name and had nodded enthusiastically in agreement. Lilin appeared enamoured with the older Stormbringer female, so she probably agreed.

Sooner than he expected, they were stood once again at the 'entrance' to the houses that would become their homes. He still hadn't figured out where he wanted to be, but he knew Lilin had claimed her home and Niernan and Bran likewise. With a grin, he turned and addressed his family. Welcome, my family, to Vinátta, our new home. He said simply, feeling no need to elaborate. They were free to do as they pleased now, although Saul could feel the list of things he wished to do building in his head.

YAY VINATTA! Sorry for crappost :: 291 ::

They had set off earlier in the day, the slightly overcast conditions were ideal, keeping the air cool. Bran and Ciaran had been in high spirits all day, for once putting aside their differences and ganging up on Niernan every opportunity they had. He had been tripped, poked, prodded, slapped and jumped on all day. He didn't mind, but his pack was stuffed to bursting with as much gear as they could fit in it and his shoulder were starting to ache. He was on the verge of giving Bran a vicious kick when Saul stopped, turned to face them and announced that they were home.

A huge, goofy grin spread across Niers face and he shared his happiness with his brother by pushing him over. He swung the pack off of his back and placed it by his foot-paws. "Good to be home." He sighed. Ciaran scrambled his way up to Niernans shoulder and mewled a "Yes." in his ear. Nier raised a hand-paw, "Saul, what are we gonna do about unpacking? I've forgotten about who put what in the pack I was carrying." He looked down to the deerhide sack at his feet and shrugged. He knew that all he wanted to do was get into his house and do some cleaning, maybe make the bed and search out places he could put things. But he would sacrifice his paws and time if he was needed to help unpack, or start any projects his Virding needed doing. His cyan eyes glanced at Brans caramel form, his brother gave him one of his rare, serious looks that said that he was ready for work. Anything Saul threw their way was welcome. They were just happy to be part of the pack.

Colibri had not yet claimed a house of her own; perhaps the submissive part of her personality urged her to wait until everyone else made their choices, so that she did not upset anyone. She shadowed Lilin instead, though the presence of the older Stormbringer, Miskunn, made her anxious and stand-offish. She was slowly learning more about their family and its rich cultural heritage, though, with the names Jordheim and Solbjorg beginning to feel more natural to her ears. It was like a beautiful fantasy, all these larger than life personalities converging and drawing her along in their wake.

Coli had no possessions to move, but she traveled alongside them all the same, reveling in the excitement they all exuded. Saul was leading horses, something that surprised her at first -- he had not mentioned the beasts of burden to her before, nor had they been present on the first journey. Laden with supplies, they could not move too quickly, but she still eyed them with mistrust and decided to shy away from them -- she had no great love for any creature larger than herself, especially not ones with hooves like boulders. Instead she found herself trailing Niernan and Bran, out of reach of their antics but happy to watch the two brothers together. Nier and his cat companion had endeared themselves to her days prior, and she felt a shade more comfortable being around them. It was still beyond her to strike up a conversation with the garrulous males, though, preferring to watch them from a safe distance.

When they reached their destination - their home - Saul welcomed them officially, his first statement as their leader. Colibri nodded to him and Lilin respectfully, knowing that there was a subtle shift in power now and their friends and equals would also be their loyal subjects. She had been a pack wolf before, but always at the very bottom of the order, too feeble to rise in status and usefulness. This was to be a new beginning. "Vinátta... I hope we can spend many prosperous years here," she breathed, blue eyes hopeful. The others spoke of unpacking, rustling and readjusting the heavy bags. Unburdened with remnants of her past, Coli stepped forward into the newly named Jordheim village, trying to choose which house would be hers for the foreseeable future.

They had finally made it. The small band of wolves had finally settled down, established their own, and were a proper pack now. He had to give Saul all the credit; that man had proved very quickly to be a leader that was trustworthy and had the group’s best interests in mind. He respected the man, and even though Ezra wasn’t prone to take orders from someone younger than him, Saul was one of a select group of individuals Ezra would allow that to occur.

The husky hybrid duo headed up with the group to their newfound territory; Ezra let Eli take the horse’s reigns for the first time so he could learn. He was old enough mentally to learn, but he still hadn’t shifted (Ezra waited with bated breath every day… it should happen soon…) and therefore could not use the stirrups. Ezra still sat in front though, with his son by his side. The group finally made it to their land, and the optime man dismounted from Petra, hoping to unpack his family’s few belongings quickly. Saul finally spoke and Ezra smiled at his friend, glad to be done riding. “I’m happy to be home,” he said quietly. And he truly was; he knew this would be a good place for Eli and he knew they would be happy here. After almost a year of roaming, he knew it was time to settle down. If only Barry were here, he thought longingly, missing his mocha friend. But he was needed elsewhere, and sad thoughts were not for the present. He gave Saul and Lilin quick grins before unpacking his horse’s saddlebags, peering at each house, wondering which one him and his son would take.

(395) --

This voyage was a carbon copy of their last, accompanied by a few savory additions to the group. Miskunn had recently joined their midst; taking up temporary residence in the hut she already shared with her half-sibling, Colibri. It had been crowded for a few days and all three of them – naturally independent women, had done their very best to stay out of each other’s paws until the time had come to make the big move. Lilin had taken up Saul’s offer and tacked her belongings to Hermes’ back, seemingly trusting the salt and pepper horse more than she did his brood mare. Unknowingly, the Soul sisters shared similar opinions when it came to the large, saddled creatures. She had to admit their worth in situations like these, where they alleviated the burden of traveling big distances but aside from that, Lilin paid little to no attention to them.

She’d spent the duration of their journey flitting from one relative to another, most particularly the two women she’d grown so fond of in such a short amount of time. Colibri’s reserve hadn’t gone unnoticed and every once in a while, the first-born Soulstorm would find herself falling back and walking with her eldest sibling. Things had a peculiar way of working out. A few moons prior, Lilin had lacked any female companions and now she had two very special women to lean on. Her life had gone from more than unstable to something akin to normal. Granted, she still had her moments of desired seclusion but her family, for the most part, respected her need to withdraw from the group every once in a while. Saul did his very best to understand, even if his emotions occasionally bested him.

Her head rose as the familiar earthen humps appeared before them, just in time to greet Saul’s announcement with a smile and a subtle wag of her tail. This was a new beginning. For Lilin, settling down permanently was a remarkable accomplishment in itself. She’d spent the bigger part of her life wondering where she would end up next. Now, it was different. Jordheim was the place she’d proudly call home from here on out. Unlike the others who’d retorted with encouraging statements, Lilin gave in to her excitement by moving up front and suggesting that Colibri settle in a house next to hers. “How ‘bout that one, Coli?”

Saul Lupus is by Alaine!

Lilin's relative silence to Saul had been weighing on his mind their entire journey, although he'd watched her flit back and forth between Miskunn and Colibri, an anxious hostess. He also recognised the wary look she got in her eyes when she looked towards the horses. He understood that some didn't get on with the large animals, but he had grown used to them and was comfortable enough around them. She had permitted most of her possessions to be packed away into the saddle bags, so she at least appreciated the use of the horses. Saul had tried to ignore her preoccupation and had concentrated on Bran and Niernan's ministrations. It seemed neither of them could express affection for the other without a physical blow involved and Saul began to understand that this was their way of bonding and showing this affection. It made him laugh more than once to watch Niernan trip Bran and then the caramel cousin would leap up and tackle his older brother without hesitation. It was a routine well worn.

They arrived and it seemed the rest of the clan had already accepted that this was their home. Their sentiments were accepted with a soft smile to each, although he noticed that Lilin did not echo these sentiments. He snorted quietly, before a question from Niernan brought his attention back to the present. He glanced over and smiled softly, before considering his cousins question. Thinking about it, he couldn't quite remember which bag had been packed with what and shook his head softly. I can't remember either! We'll unload it all into this house and then we can sort through it all once we've settled into whichever house we want. He said, thinking it was probably easier to have it all in one place than try to sort through it straight off of the horses saddles.

Lilin's voice caused him to look up, like it always did, and he flashed a smile her way as she showed Colibri towards a house close to the one his belle had chosen herself. He decided to let them sort it out between themselves, noticing Miskunn's silence and glancing over at her. She stood with a thoughtful look on her face, brows slightly furrowed but utterly still. It was clear she was in deep thought and he left her to it. Noticing Ezra beginning to unpack the saddle bags from Petra, Saul stepped forward, quickly undoing the girth around Hermes and sliding the loaded saddle to the floor, bags and all.

As Coli stepped forward into their new village, Lilin swooped in by her side, positively glowing with excited energy. Coli flashed her younger sister a relieved smile, appreciative of how carefully the Soulstorm female was dividing her time and attention. She had not missed the way Lilin moved throughout their group, balancing everyone's moods and interactions. She and Saul were both so adept at raising everyone's spirits, keeping the mood optimistic. They had quite a talent for people pleasing -- something Lilin had downplayed when they first met, or perhaps had simply been dampened by whatever put her in a bad mood that afternoon. Since joining their little convoy, Coli had not had the time to dwell on her own troubles at all.

"That one seems... a little big," she admitted sheepishly. "I don't need much space, really, I'm just one wolf. Maybe... something a little further out," she trailed off, realizing why Lilin suggested a home so close to her own. They would be living in the same area no matter what, though, they didn't have to be right next door to remain close... right? A guilty expression crossed her face, not wanting to disappoint the relative she held in such high esteem. "What do you think of that one?" she asked quickly to distract Lilin, pointing to a grassy hillock towards the edge of the Jordheim circle. Little was visible beside the door, which weather had left hanging loosely on its hinges. "Nice and secluded," she murmured, watching for her sister's response.

we can finish up in a short while if you want!

Saul Lupus is by Alaine!

Fingers reached down into one of the saddle bags closest to him, wondering what he would bring out. It was perhaps by sheer chance that creamy fingers closed around the bunched leather chords that he'd made only a few days ago. He grinned softly before pulling the bundle out of the bag and into his awaiting hands. Nestled in his palm were nine wooden pendants, each attached to its own chord. Polished to a high shine, the little pendants reflected the sunlight nicely. He moved his fingers, untying the large knot that held the pendants together and separated them on the floor, before hooking his arm through all nine chords all the way up his forearm, so they hung separate from each other, evenly spaced. Miskunn had helped him with these when Saul had come to her with an idea and he glanced at her once before addressing the new pack.

Hey guys, I just wanted to give you all something. These are Frithr necklaces, carved from the White Walnut Tree in our new lands. They symbolise peace, as well as a new beginning and a ward for superstitions. You may where them as you wish... or not at all if you'd rather, but I made one for everybody.

He said with a small smile. It took a moment for the group to move and Saul was a little shocked to see Bran striding forward, hand outstretched to take the first necklace. The caramel and chocolate man placed it around his neck, thumb and forefinger unconsciously reaching up to rub it once before it settled above his breastbone. Saul nodded softly, before his sons voice came. "Daddy, I'd like one." His son said, a grin on his little face. Saul returned the grin, before dropping down and slipping a necklace over his sons head. It nestled on his chest and Temeraire tried to look down at it. Saul chuckled before standing up and moving towards Miskunn, who had held an outstretched hand for a necklace. He handed one over, giving his aunt's hand a small squeeze of thanks for help with the design, a miniature Thor's Hammer he'd been informed, before he glanced back around at the rest of them, wondering if they'd accept the necklace. When Lilin held out her hand for one, Saul gave a grin and passed a necklace to her. It didn't take two moments for the rest of them to receive their necklaces, some placing them around their necks and others tucking them away.
