Today marked the second mentor ceremony that the Sole would perform. It was sad to think of the time when Adelle and Cadmeia have both been tiny, now they were both going to have mentors and in a short while little Cadmeia would no longer be considered a pup, but a young adult. As the Knight wrapped his bear fur clock over his broad shoulders he took a deep breath. Things were coming together, that was for certain. What had started out as a fresh pack of five members had grown into one of the larger packs in the area. And what was more, they had two young ones new in their training and many potential couples. The future was bright for all but today was a very important day for one small fox.

Walking into the Great Hall he called to his family to join him. He was sure that many of them familiar with the tradition of mentors would be expecting the call. Cadmiea had probably been excited all week awaiting today and there was no doubt in his mind that she had been chatting up a storm about it to Ismeme and Hadley. He took his place at one end of the hall, the entrance to the courtroom behind him, though he stood so anyone who wished to use the vaulted ceiling to their advantage could watch from upstairs. As the pack began to settle into the hall he looked around with a grin, nodding in the direction of the odd person in greeting.

Finally he spotted little Cadmeia and her adoptive parents and a grin spread across his muzzle before he spoke, Today we gather to celebrate the start of Cadmeia’s education. She has displayed great care for others and has started to develop into a wonderful young fox. Pausing he made eye contact with the little brown fox, Please join me at the front so I may announce your mentor. His Scottish accent was soft and inviting, as it always was when dealing with pups.

Yet another ceremony. Jazper certainly was fond of them. Still, Sebastian supposed that it was important that the little people of Casa di Cavalieri felt valued and whatnot. And at least he knew this one, however vaguely. The fox kit that Hadley had inexplicably decided to adopt. There wasn't any harm in it, Sebastian thought, but it was certainly unusual.

So long as he was loudly ignored for the position of her mentor, the foxy Italian male was happy. He looked like a fox, sure, but he didn't want to teach one about life. Surely Hadley or Ismeme or Biff would be a more suitable choice. He knew he'd be a bad influence.

Sebastian leaned against one of the pillars towards the back, his arms crossed over his bare chest as he observed the goings-on. Jazper made a speech, of course, as he was obliged to do during ceremonies. At least it was short, something Sebastian appreciated. As per his usual actions, Sebastian passed the time by ogling the black-furred Sole.

Cadmeia Teumessian

Cadmeia shivered. An overwhelming feeling flooded over her body as she stepped into the Great Hall. She grinned, thinking back to Adelle's mentor ceremony. She was so happy for her bumbling friend at the time, and now today she could revel in the moment herself. As she padded in alongside Hadley and Ismeme, she suddenly felt nervous. All eyes were on them. She wondered how everyone felt about today. Cadmeia was very self conscious, and being the only fox in Casa di Cavalieri, she felt like a bit of an outsider at times.

Nevertheless, she couldn't help but tremble with excitement. Who would be her mentor? "Hadley!? she thought...but maybe not, as he was her adopted father now. She didn't really know anybody else. She liked the looks of Sebastian, but he didn't seem to like the looks of her. Regner, perhaps? She cowered underneath Hadley's soft fur and under Isa's soothing hand - somehow she knew it would all be okay. She peeked out as she heard Jazper beckon her. Cadmeia couldn't believe it. Had she blacked out again? Somehow she managed to gather up all the courage she could muster and gracefully trotted forward - hopefully nobody would notice her shaking.

Cadmeia was going to get a mentor. He was so thankful for that. Thankful that someone would be put in charge of the kit to help her become a good fox. Someone that was hopefully not him. He didn't know anything about foxes, caring for her the way that he would a pup, feeding her and carrying her around and playing. Whether or not that actually satisfied her at all was a mystery, unsure if he was failing at some innate fox knowledge she needed.

He watched her walk up to where the alpha stood, healthier and larger than when he'd rescued the tiny weak kit from their borders. Tail swishing he smiled over at Isa, sending one over to Sebastian as well. Did he feel proud of this? Well, maybe a little. Even if he hadn't done anything beyond give her attention. The one that was truly amazing was the kit standing there, so tiny amongst the crowd of wolves.

Adelle hadn't actually been paying attention to how much time was passing. She was in the armory, going over the weapons. Some were picked up and stroked by the warrior, others stared at in complete aw. She couldn't even touch some, too filled with excitement. When the howl came out Adelle jumped, head hitting against a shield. Rubbing it the pup tumbled out, changing into secui form. Huffing she skidded into the hall, managing to avoid crashing into the door.

Silently she picked her way through. Adelle partly listened to the alpha's words. Respect settled in her as she realized what was happening. Cadmeia had somehow become old enough to get a mentor. She sat proudly, tail wagging as she watched the trembling kit move towards the alpha. She wondered who would guide her friend, doing her best to look serious, despite the loud thumping from her tail hitting a nearby wall.

Alyssum had been out hunting when the call came for the meeting, her game bag filled with woodland squirrels and various birds. She was about the shoot a rather nice dove when the Sole’s howl echoed through the trees, disturbing the bird and making it flutter off with a cry. She frowned, knowing that it was a good piece of meat lost, but it did not bother her as much as to why Jazper was calling for a meeting. She was soon at the Fort in good time, and, having stashed the bag in a tree with Macbeth under watch to make sure no creature got to it, walked into the Great Hall, mingling in with some familiar faces and new ones she had yet to meet.

The woman thought about chatting when the Scottish male began to speak, and looked attentively ahead as she listened to his speech. She smiled at his words, finding them to be pleasant to hear, if not a little odd; she had not yet heard about the local fox, but found the idea endearing, and nonetheless exciting that knowledge was being passed on not to a wolf, but to a different species. It was rather impressive, and followed Jazper’s gaze to the small vixen that stood near Haley, feeling joy for Cadmeia, and wondered as an afterthought whom would be the girl’s mentor.

Curiously, she watched as the fox walked forward, and again felt trumped by her courage, unsure if she could have done the same if she was in her place despite her brash nature. An encouraging and friendly expression overcame her face in case she would look her way, even if for a mere second, for some form of support. Alyssum waited rather impatiently as Cadmeia made her way to the front and stood in front of Jazper, anxious to hear who would teach her.

Ismeme walked into the Great Hall with Cadmeia and Hadley, excited that the fox kit her and Hadley had adopted would be getting a mentor. She listened as her Sole spoke, a large smile spreading across her face. Who would become the kits mentor? She assumed it wouldn’t be her or Hadley since they were her parents, perhaps Sebastian? He could be a good fit. She hadn’t gotten to know some of the others that were there though since she had been in heat and was now pregnant. Isa would need to get out and get to know them soon.

She watched with pride as Cadmeia walked towards Jazper. The young girl seemed nervous and appeared to be shaking a little. When she had first adopted the kit, she wasn’t sure if Cadmeia would get a mentor since she was a fox but was happy that She would be treated like any other member.

Isa became very excited to find out who would become her daughter’s mentor. Hopefully they would be a good match for Cadmeia. She would just have to wait and see.

It was hard for Neela to force herself away from the safety of Tony and her house but she did so nonetheless; Jazper's call had seemed important and much if not all of the pack was gathering in the main hall of the courthouse.

Thick white bandages were wrapped around Neela's left arm an leg, the white fabric stained with small flecks of red where the deep wounds adorning the limbs still bled slightly. The wound to her leg was the worse of the two, twinging painfully whenever Neela placed too much weight on it of flexed her knee overly much. To combat this she had salvaged a piece of wood, carving and smoothing it into a crutch both as a way of passing the time, keeping her mind occupied and giving herself a way to move about. Her arm was painful but not as bad, strong enough to support the crutch at least.

Neela limped into the court, glancing about warily and wishing that Tony were here. Normally Neela would have enjoyed such a meeting, all of her pack gathered together in one place, but recent events had left her jumpy and timid, a far cry from her usual outgoing self.

Neela practically winced as every step she took resulted in a loud thunk as the crutch hit the stone floor with her weight behind it. She hobbled as quickly as she could into the crowd. There were a lot of Cavaliers here and Neela almost felt like she could loose herself in the sea of unfamiliar faces and half alien scents. There were a few faces she recognised within the crowd; Adelle was a noticeable figure just from the sound her tail made against a wall and Alyssum caught her attention pretty much instantly, after the help she had given Neela recently she was still stuck fresh in her memory. She sent a small smile in the faded brown girl's direction before giving her attention to Cadmeia as the little fox strode towards Jazper.

Old bones creaked and groaned in protest as Regner strode briskly through the halls of the courthouse, ignoring his bodies protests at moving so quickly. The elderly warrior's health had deteriorated quite rapidly recently and on some days, such as today, he was beginning to find even the most simple tasks caused him pain, aching joints and wheezing lungs plaguing those days.

Despite his troubles Regner fought to not let his routines be affected wherever possible, not wanting to let the frailties of his body win. That was why he lumbered towards Jazper's call rather than lay down and rest.

There were many gathered to watch the ceremony when Regner arrived in the great hall but Regner knew few of them. As his activity had dropped and the pack had grown Regner had become more and more out of tune with the packs members to the point where a sea of unfamiliar faces greeted him rather than the crowds of friends he had known in his youth.

That was another side effect of the melancholy that had settled over Regner as he became less and less active; he found himself thinking often back to the Broderskab and to happier times. Back to when sparring, hunting and even just running were things he did daily and not just fond memories.

With a sigh Regner sniffed deeply, picking Adelle's scent out of the sword. Smiling slightly Regner pushed his way through to stand by his granddaughter, barking out a quick greeting in Danish to her before he leant back against the wall her tail was assaulting, watching over the proceedings with a solemn look.

It was exciting to watch as the little one made her way forward. Unlike Adelle little Cadmeia would never shift but she certainly would be educated the same as any other pup who came into Casa. As he looked out at the crowd he gave them a minute to soak in their own anticipation, himself a moment to figure out his words because they were very important, and the kit a moment to gain some courage. As I said, Cadmeia as a unique member of this pack and she will require someone equally as unique to encourage her as she grows. Because of this I have thought long and hard about who should mentor her. Pausing he cleared his throat, This individual has displayed his agility many times and he continuously uses words to his advantage. Both he and Cadmeia share the need to find strength in things other than physical strength.

Lighting eyes moved to land on the small man whom he had shared many intimate encounters with. Although he was stubborn and a flirt the red coated male was the ideal choice for the little fox and although the alpha was sure that he would not initially enjoy the role of mentor he was also sure that he would not be argued with. The other male was very aware of Jazper’s strength, he knew every nook and cranny of him and certainly knew that he would not stand a chance if he made a fool of the Sole in a public place, on such an important occasion to a little one.

Sebastian. The name was out and he did not wait for an argument, I trust you will mentor this young one and show her how to use agility and words to her advantage as you do. She needs different skills than others and you are the only one who can provide them. It was true that Biff or Aly were also good choices for the little one but they had yet to climb the ranks as Sebastian had and there was no doubt in Jazper’s mind that Sebastian would rise to the occasion.

Sebastian only half-listened as Jazper spoke until he said two words he so often used while mentioning the artisan.

Agility, strength, words... No, no, no, no...

Sebastian's eyes turned flat, his claws digging into his skin almost hard enough to break through the skin of his arms. His index finger did, a bead of ruby blood appearing on his black-furred forearm by the time Jazper spoke his name. It was a good thing he was close to the back. Otherwise, someone other than Jazper might have seen the furiously bared teeth he shot at the black-furred Sole for just a moment before going blank with tension.

Jazper would not be happy if he refused. Could he even refuse? He doubted it. He read it in the Sole's body language and his voice, as well as that direct gaze. He knew that the Italian didn't want this responsibility. He hated being around children. He disliked teaching. He was impatient, harsh, stubborn, condescending, rude. He was no fit teacher for Cadmeia. He couldn't teach her to paint or use knives with her inability to shift. What use was he?

The Italian strolled slowly to stand beside Cadmeia. He offered her a very brief, false smile before he returned his gaze to Jazper. His mouth smiled with his eyes glared daggers at the Sole.

"Very well. I will."

That was the best he was going to get, that gods-damned Alpha. Damn him to hell.

Adelle's smile broadened as Grandpa appeared. Instantly she snuggled herself next to him, taking in his strength. Her tail continued thumping, stilling for a few moments in respect for the ceremony before resuming it's cheerful action. She didn't notice the weakness in his frame, oblivious to the fact that he was less than invincible, listening as Jazper spoke about who would make a good mentor for Cadmeia.

Adelle's eyes fell over to the shocked looking male. Everyone could tell he was surprised by this turn of events. Adelle remembered his terror from her presence, as cheerful and friendly as she'd been. It still hurt her a little to think about, not sure why he would be so frightened of her. Cadmeia would have better luck, more than likely, as she was smaller, and looked a lot more like Sebastian. Adelle let out a cheer, breaking the silence.

Cadmeia Teumessian

Breathing heavily, Cadmeia's little body shook with excitement. Every word Jazper spoke seemed to hang in the air, and after what felt like an eternity, he finally made his announcement.

"Sebastian."

Time stood still as everyone waited for the slender wolf's response. Cadmeia looked to him, scrutinizing (without being overtly obvious), trying to figure out what he was thinking. He looked really uncomfortable, like he might explode. She couldn't see the rest of his body yet but his face was tense. ”He sure does have a nice face,” Cadmeia thought to herself, her face getting hot. Quickly she averted her eyes. She didn’t want anyone, especially Sebastian, to notice. He already seemed angry at her - she didn’t know why. They’d barely, if ever, spoken before. He seemed clever, and smart - and she heard he was good in the arts. She wondered if he would show her any of his artwork - or maybe sing and dance for her. From the looks on his face right now, she guessed otherwise.

Butterflies filled her stomach as Sebastian slowly made his way to the front. He carried himself with an air of confidence that Cadmeia was instantly drawn to. She was more of a nervous fox , and wondered how he was able to be so graceful in front of everyone. Sebastian stopped beside her, and Cadmeia looked up with big eyes gleaming, hoping she was wrong about his mood. He opened his mouth to show some teeth - Cadmeia knew it was meant to be a smile of sorts, and was downtrodden when she realized that it was only for show. She turned her eyes away, hoping she hadn’t offended him, when a loud cheer came from the audience. It was Adelle! Cadmeia wanted to say something, but she was left speechless from the look in Sebastian’s eyes. Maybe he was fooling everyone else, but he couldn’t trick her. She was a fox, after all.
