WC :: 5+ OOC :: Bad Heiro bad! Bold text in italics is Ro speaking aka it’s all in his head. Location: Lunenburg docks

It had been a few weeks since Hei had experienced his last skull splitting headache, but the night before had been almost unbearable. Niro had considered finding Ayita in the night and asking her what herbs he should give his son, but eventually Heiro’s crying subsided and the tired pup had finally succumbed to exhausted sleep.

The morning found the black and white babe good as new and it was as if the headache hadn’t happened. The Catori child had quickly made his way from the Chien Hotel down to the docks in Lunenburg, wide eyed and bushy tailed to take on the world. He decided this was his favorite part of the kingdom, always bustling with activity, and of course the boats. Heiro loved the boats. Ever since Uncle Kable had taken him out, he couldn’t stay away from the docks. Hoping someone would take him out for a sail or even fishing. The hybrid was quickly becoming a seadog, though he preferred wooden decks beneath his paws rather than the water itself. He was playfully barking at the flock of seagulls that liked perching and pooping on his dock, when a dark shadow came across his large paws. Looking up, Hei gave out a cry of surprise. Ro! Where ya been? He squealed as his tail wagged back and forth. The black wolf pup only grinned and walked off, indicating Heiro should follow.

By afternoon, Heiro was down by water and Ro was trying to convince him to fake drown in the ocean. Nah..too scawey..I can’ swim Ro, he stamped his front paws in the sand for emphasis. He was not a fan of this idea at all. Quit being a child Heiro! Ro snarled. The water is shallow in that part if you follow my steps exactly. Your rescuer will come this way, he indicated the small expanse of water from the shoreline to the point he wanted Heiro to bob in, and if they swim out there and then stand up, well then, they will surely get a surprise! The red eyed wolf threw his head back to laugh, making Hei’s skin crawl. Now, follow me, he commanded the hybrid leaping off the dock to the sand below and walking along the precarious shoreline till he got to the point where there was a hidden sandbar. Heiro followed with his tail tucked between his legs.

A few minutes later, Heiro was standing and shaking in the water. Get lower! Ro cried from the shoreline, hiding now in the rocks and most likely watching for their victim to come along. Hei did as he was bid and allowed the water to lap underneath his chin. Ro had been right, it was very shallow here, but he was afraid for high tide which would be coming soon and this sandbar would no longer exist. The little lagoon in front of the sandbar had black spiny urchins lurking in the darkness. A terrible thing to be impaled upon, but Heiro was unaware of these. Ro had simply said it would be a surprise. A small whine escaped his lips as he waited for Ro’s evil plan to pan out.

After the fight with his brother, Skoll had been more and more removed from his family and his pack. He became a bit of a lone wolf, venturing often into the neutral territory at the boundaries of the Kingdom and skirting the edges of Court society, mostly because he was resentful and afraid of what his comrades would think of him. At just a couple months shy of a year old, the boy was transforming into a beast, and he didn’t know when the itch would leave him alone; until then, he had to move, and fight, and avoid others so he could move and couldn’t fight.

In a way, it was almost like the first day he shifted—then a burning tension along his shoulders and haunches that he needed to stretch and stretch until he stood on two legs. Now, the tension flooded throughout his body and his soul, and he didn’t know what he could do about it. Maybe, if he spoke to his father, he’d learn—Vigilante knew everything, of course; he still believed that even if he wasn’t as close to his alpha parent as he used to be—but he didn’t want to see the disapproval in his green gaze. He had to confront this problem himself.

It was a bit ironic, but the beast within Skoll wanted to roam in his optime form rather than the four-legged shapes he’d always been comfortable in. He didn’t question it—anything to ease the itch—but instead took long strides as he went about Lunenburg, more feral than princely. Occasionally he’d lift his nose to the salt wind and push his mane out of his face, a characteristic gesture, before trudging onward in search for something to do alone. A social creature from birth, this was difficult for him.

His wanderings eventually led him to the docks, where he watched the afternoon sun glisten off the water and the few un-sunk boats bob in place. It would be easy to leap onto one and be off, but he knew that he’d die within three days out at sea, probably sooner because he knew nothing about the tides and currents and other hazards of ocean travel. He didn’t even want to leave, anyway, as grouchy as he was; he wouldn’t dream of abandoning his family, especially in a cowardly way like that.

Scowling, Skoll turned to scan the beach—then pricked his ears when he saw a little black and white shape in the water. Green eyes narrowed, then widened, and he started running down onto the sand toward the little form: a puppy, a Catori puppy. He hadn’t met his half-nephew in person yet, but he knew about Heiro from his talks with the boy’s father—and, kin or not, he was still out in the water and still in danger.

The yellow werewolf paused on his toes on the damp sand, his ears flattening. He remembered being washed out to sea and rescued by a stranger, and even though he was still young and afraid, he knew he had to be a hero now too. All of his former anger and frustration was forgotten as he lurched clumsily forward into the water, shoving against the weight of it, his arms waving to keep balance and instinctively stroke to swim closer.

“Heiro, I’m coming,” the young Haskel shouted, not stopping to wonder why the boy wasn’t panicking more. He was almost there, about to gather the black and white puppy in his arms, when a sharp pain jolted up his leg and he fell forward. Bitter saltwater splashed in his face, and his bottom jaw was soaked as he grunted and pushed forward again, still not stopping. “I’ve got you,” he lied, but then he clawed onto the sandbar. He knelt, his leg still screaming, and reached for the pup, jubilating that they weren’t in danger yet.

WC :: 4+ OOC :: Sorry for the wait!

Here he was again, guilted into another cruel trick of Ro’s. How many times would he allow himself to be so easily manipulated? Heiro would get angry and argue with the shadow pup, but what good did that do? It seemed to strengthen Ro’s resolve all the more, giving birth to nasty names and threats against Hei. The little prince always backed down when Ro was in one of those moods, but the two toned Catori was getting sick of being put in positions that made him feel unsafe. Lately, Ro’s plots for madness seemed to always have a theme of danger involved. The scarlet eyed tyrant knew Heiro was afraid of the water as he couldn’t swim yet, but here he was stuck on a sandbar until Ro’s thirst for mischief was sated. “Someone’s coming!!!” Ro screamed from the rocky shore, voice laced with complete and utter pleasure. Hei immediately turned his attention to the docks, eyes widening with recognition.

Oh no, Heiro said under his breath as his dark sapphire eyes watched the blonde wolf on the shore. He recognized that yellow mane as a member of his extended family, Skoll. The pup began to panic, wanting to yell out to the werewolf that he was fine and didn’t need help, but Ro’s watchful eyes burned into the side of his face from the rocks overlooking the lagoon. Go back...go back...no see no see! Hei willed for the Haskel male to move along and continue on his way by the docks, but it was too late....he had definitely spotted the black and white furred babe seemingly washed out in the water. A defeated sigh left his dark lips as he cast an accusatory look to Ro before turning his attention back to Skoll. Small whines and barks began building up in his throat now, this was a family member and they were supposed to be off limits! Ro could never follow rules. The little prince felt powerless against his shadowed friend and now all he could do was freeze up in horror as Ro’s plan was set in motion.

He watched helplessly as the golden optime flung himself into the water and began peddling his way towards the him, only vaguely aware that he no longer needed to crouch on the sandbar anymore as the water was beginning to rise. Hei whimpered as the man came closer and let out a little surprised shriek when Skoll fell forward. You kay? He asked in a panicked voice as he allowed himself to be pulled towards his half-uncle and hopefully borne away from the rising tide as the sandbar was beginning to disappear. Sko, yer leg! Heiro cried, noticing how the Haskel was favoring it.

He didn’t stop to think about the fiery pain or the location of the sandbar; Skoll had to save this child from the fate he’d almost suffered. He tried to look confident and failed miserably, his smile more of a grimace, as he shifted his weight on the sand and the saltwater lapped around him. He had a one-track mind, and he ignored the hybrid puppy’s questions as he reached for him, scooping him up in large pale hands.

“Just stay still,” the older prince said gruffly. He knew how much he’d squirmed when the collie woman rescued him, how afraid he’d been; only exhaustion had kept him from total panic. He cradled Heiro close to his chest, tucking him under his arm, and slipped back into the deeper waters to reach the shore.

He managed to miss more of the urchins under the surface, although his first few steps turned into lurching limps; these near-falls almost brought Heiro down into the water, although Skoll struggled to at least keep his head up with his fingers under the boy’s chin. Finally, he reached the beach, crawling on his knees and one arm then dropping the black and white puppy onto land.

Immediately, Skoll bared his teeth and rolled over, sucking his breath in as he saw the blood seeping from his leg. He scrambled backward in the sand as if to escape his own injury then sat there, chest heaving, not quite sure what to do about the wound.

WC :: 6+ OOC :: No worries! Haha a battle of the inner demons!

Thrash about you idiot! Don’t let him bring you back to the shore! Ro called angrily from the rocky coast, but Heiro ignored his commands and allowed himself to be taken into his half uncle’s outstretched arms. Tucked safely beneath one of his arms, the soaked child obeyed Skoll’s command without question, allowing his tired body to go limp in his grip so he could easily be carried through the water. His mind kept backpedalling to the face Skoll had made when he first arrived at the sandbar, something about it screamed out danger to him. It must have been part of Ro’s trick, but Heiro couldn’t see through the dark sloshing waters here and was only focused on being the best transport for his uncle.

You’re ruining the plan! Ro whined from the rocks, but chest deep in water, Heiro was completely seized with fear, shivering against the warmth of Skoll’s body as he awkwardly walked through the surf with one arm and most likely an injured leg. He could feel the struggle in the blonde wolf’s body, but he kept his whimpers to a minimum. There was safety with an adult and he was much better off in this man’s arms than on the quickly disappearing sandbar. A scared yip escaped his lips when the Lieutenant slunk forward suddenly in the seawater causing the ocean to lap viciously at his chin. His little rose tongue darted out to smooth down the fur, tasting salt water and brine, but just as suddenly as it had happened, his body was rising above the current seconds later. Skoll wouldn’t allow his head to go under.

Extremely thankful for solid ground, Heiro cowered on the beach once they had reached it and tentatively allowed his tail to wag. He raced forward to shower Skoll with puppy licks, but immediately recoiled, tail now tucked firmly between his legs and ears flattened back as blonde male rolled to his back in agony. Sapphire eyes widened with surprise as they fell upon the angry red blood pulsing from Skoll’s leg. Oh no no no no! Dis isn’t right...stay Sko, Hei be right back! He wouldn’t allow shock to consume him right now, he needed to get help. Scrambling away from his rescuer and up the soggy wooden steps of the dock, he began searching for another adult or at least something to staunch the flow of blood. Discarded sails was what his eyes fell upon first.

Don’t you dare go back there Heiro. Leave him to bleed out...won’t it be fun? Ro had somehow managed to make it back to the docks before he had and his sudden appearance caused Hei to drop the large pieces of cloth from his mouth. Ro, he needs help and he’s mah fam’lee...back off! The scarlet eye’d pup’s eyes widened. Was Heiro really standing up to him? His eyes then narrowed to slits as he rounded on the hybrid who was attempting to pick up the sails once more. You will leave him there you hear me! Come back in an hour with another adult, you can say- Shutup Ro! You knew he’d get hurt, ay’m not gonna be part of dis, step aside! The little Prince roared and when Ro didn’t move, he simply grasped the sails in his teeth and shoved his way forward leaving the shadow wolf behind him as he ran back towards the man in need.

He arrived with the sails, puffing air wildly out the sides of his mouth before he dropped it beside his uncle. We ken tear up dis an..an stop da bleedin’, he explained as he tried stepping on parts of the sail and pulling back with his teeth only to be rewarding with a tearing sound.

Skoll had very little experience with pain. He had been attacked by a bobcat when he was younger, which resulted in a clawed rump and a scratched nose, but it was not quite the same as this stinging agony. The salt in the wound burned, and he whimpered softly, less of a hero and more of a hurt puppy. He was barely aware of the younger boy’s praise before the little prince panicked and darted off, claiming that he’d return. The lieutenant only hoped that he would bring back an adult, although there weren’t any prominent healers in the Court that he knew of—not since Liam had left.

Meanwhile, the pale luperci reached forward and pressed his hands to the gash. His palms grew slick with blood pretty quickly, and he whined again before wiping his hands on his fur. It only made him look even more horrible, but he did his best to staunch the flow of blood while the kid was gone. In hindsight, it probably wasn’t a good idea to let the newly-saved pup run off, but he didn’t seem to have any negative symptoms from his soak, and so he banished the guilt from his mind.

It wasn’t long before Heiro came charging back with a sail in his mouth, although it seemed much longer to the young man. He swallowed, looking at the cloth as the boy began to tear at it. “Thank you,” he said breathlessly, and clawed through the sail, ripping and tearing with a frenzy. Clumsily, he wrapped the cloth around his leg, whining when it grew red then adding more layers until the blood no longer blossomed through.

“Heiro,” he forced himself to ask, pushing past his lightheadedness, “are you all right?” He knew he’d been careful in carrying the pup back, but the child could still be injured. He swallowed. “H-how did you get out there in the first place, anyway?”
