Scars of the Past
#1
He was lost.

Really no doubt about it, everything around him was... Forest. Trees everywhere. For a city boy, being stuck in a place like this was horrifying; He could threaten men ten times his size for money, sure, but what should he do, say, a bear or other fierce, wild creature was tracking him?

He had no idea.

No look at yourself, Harv, ol' boy... Went and gotcherself lost, y'did! The red merle canine muttered to himself.

Harvey Butler was a tall creature of fit built, hair choppy in the back while it fell to at least his neck up front. He was predominantly a copper toned colour, with blotches of red and brown, the accents covering him dressed in white.
His brown and blue eyes searched for a way through, but he decided it best to sit and rest, his legs growing tired as he explored this new land, all in dreams of starting a new life away from money and murder...

The Australian Shepherd sat on a rock, stretching his legs and sighing heavily. A padded hand came up to scratch at the scars on his chest, acquired during his time in the British 'gang'.

It wasn't like the gangs that were wiped out along with the humans, consisting of hand signing hoodlums and spray painting wannabes. This was more like the mafia, a family and close friend ran collection of high status males. There was money, reputation, and bloodshed...

He just wanted to put it all behind him now.
Though as he sat there shaking his head, Harvey was in a worse predicament than wanting to forget his history.

So... He sighed, What now...?

WC: 345 OOC: I am so sorry it took me this long to get to our thread *hugs* forgive me!!

Eclipse was confused. She had been sore in many places before, but she knew why each and every limb hurt, but she was baffled as to why her own chest was starting to hurt... Did someone try to beat her when she didn’t know? That wasn’t the only thing on her mind either. It was the feeling she was getting towards Robert, she wasn’t sure what it was, and it was very new, but something like that.... it had to be dealt with carefully yes?

She decided to take a small trip out into the forest, just her and her bow and the woods. Perhaps she could find something good to eat, or contemplation and an answer to her own question. It was only days since she and Robert shared that midnight roof conversation, but to her it felt like the night before, she had been as kind as she could around such a naive and home body child like him, but he too had been nice, but hadn’t he been nice the whole time? And she was mean rude and insistent? Well someone had to be the kid never got out, she thought. Her feet moved with little thought as she moved through the wood. She knew where she was with the moss and her scent, and the sun when she could see it. The forest to her was just as much of her home as Cercatori was. That was when she saw the man.

She stopped short, not sure how to take him in, his expression told her little, though he didn’t seem like a part of the forest however and she could sense something, but that she could not put her finger on. She gripped her bow but did not arm it and stepped into view; “Hello, I am Eclipse Soulstorm, you look a little at odds around here.” She stated. She wasn’t one to beat around the bush. She was a matter of fact type of girl so she tended to get more sneers then smiles.

((WC: 296 - That's finnneee~ xD))

The sudden voice caused his flopped ears to perk in attention, brown and blue eyes darting quickly to located the source to the sound.

He wasn't expecting company, especially in a place like this, so it was a surprise to the canine that he should be seeing this female creature before him.
Though, he wasn't against having somebody to talk to, or at least help him inform him on what he needed to know the lands.

Harvey felt just knowing somebody else actually existed in the area was enough to calm him some.

The dog smiled somewhat, standing up as to be polite as he introduced himself.

Ah, uhm... Harvey nodded, Pleasure ta meetcha, miss. Harvey Butler's me name, and yes... I'll admit, I'm afraid I'm quite... lost.

His accent was British, clearly, but contained a strange mix of dialects thanks to his traveling about his country, and the influences of 'peers'. It could be described as cockney, and the male's enunciation grew especially lazy when tempered.

Sorta jus' ended up 'ere. Harvey looked around, before returning his attention to the one with the bow.

He gave a half-hearted smile. He hated to admit that he'd lost his way, especially to a female, but if he ever wanted to get information about this new land, Harvey would have to sacrifice his pride.

The aussie shepherd wasn't sexist in any way, or particularly embarrassed by women, but he was one to feel that a man should always be able to care for themselves, without special guidance or even occasional assistance. At least, if help was needed, it was to be accomplished discretely, and with shame involved. It was a childish thing to do, getting lost, but he thought in his defense, it wasn't like it was intentional.

WC: 311 OOC:

So he was definitely out of sorts here when he revealed his accent, though she meant he looked more like a dweller of possibly a big pack, one that really didn’t venture off into the woods much but she could tell his embarrassment at the statement of him being lost. The accent he had was strange to the woman’s ears but to many of the other creatures she ahd listened to she would adapt into hearing him talk. She could only smile letting her mind whirl through what he must be going through at the moment, to be lost was something in itself. “Yes these wood are easy to lose yourself in, but if you know the wood well enough it can tell you where you should go. I am from Cercatori d’ Arte which is over there. I suspect you may be from another pack?”

She had pointed towards her own home and his alliance with a pack was a total guess because he was upwind from her, and she was still far enough away that the scent of the forest covered his own. She was often wrong, but she was still a pup in many different terms. She smiled kindly at the man, though not letting herself relax too much. She remembered the night with Moss vividly and the same thing with Aro... men just couldn’t be trusted and she definitely couldn’t trust herself, even though she knew her heat was long gone by now anyway. She just had to stand ready and not be coaxed into anything intimate... especially now that she was confused herself on how she felt with her own pack mate, who was odd and timid, and well rather cute in her eyes, but she would just be on guard now to make sure she got no temptations with another man.

Another what? Harvey frowned. He was new, and had never heard of Cercatori d' Arte, or any of the other packs. I'm not a part o' any pack, miss. I apologize for intrudin', I certainty didn't mean t' run into anyone's territory, I jus' seemed t' 'ave lost me way...

His different coloured eyes looked the other over, and he quickly took note of the bow.

Tha's a nice lil' piece ya've got there, it is. Harvey's glance made its way back up to hers.

Smiling, as to come off as friendly and suspicious, the canine gave a quick nod, But, t' get t' the point, I would find meself quite grateful if ya could 'haps show me t' way out o' these woods. Not really a kind o' bloke tha' could manage himself in the wood for too awful long, I hate t' admit... Sad truth, it is.

But, he was being honest. He grew up in an urban area, and was always traveling from city to city. The red merle male had visited the country side a few times, but never had he been lost in the wood by himself.

It wasn't that he was particularly frightened by the idea of staying, and he doubted he'd get to the point of starving (or, at least, hoped he wouldn't reach that point of deprivation)...

He just didn't want to end up trapped in the middle of nowhere for the rest of his wandering life.

Admitting to this stranger that he was not only lost, but a city boy, and unable to locate an escape easily made Harvey grow slightly uncomfortable. He shifted his weight and sighed heavily, taking his eyes off the female ahead, and instead, looked around, observing his environment.

WC: 311 OOC:

She looked away embarrassed as he spoke what she had assumed and it was wrong. She cringed a little and shrugged apologetically; “Oh you are not in any one’s territory, ‘d Arte is a mile or so that way. You wouldn’t have been received so well if you had trespassed either.” She said, a tone in her voice that basically told him she would surely turn if he did try to trespass. Then his attention seemed to go to her bow and she smiled; “Thank you, have you ever shot one?”

His request was taken only with a calm smile, of course she didn’t know which way he wanted out but she nodded anyway; “Actually you would be going out of the forest if you head any of one way, to the east you will hit the fields where Cour des miracles lies, and the south goes into the swamps of Aniwaya, the west you can find Certcatori and the north will lead you to Casa de Cav... ummm I always have trouble with that name, but it also goes to halifax. To find your way about thick wood like these you want to look for the moss. It always grows on the north side of trees. Where would you like to head then sir?”

What she said was a basic quick rundown of survival in a forest, though she would certainly escort him out of the woods, but now he would just have the excuse of having the young woman as a walking companion rather than someone showing him the way out. He seemed independent enough and didn’t want him feeling too intimidated... well that wasn’t the word but it was the only one the woman thought of. He just didn’t seem to be in his element, that much was true.

(( WC: 294 ))

A sigh of relief escaped him, causing him to smile more confidently. Knowing of the woman's pack being nearby, and seeing the bow in her hand had made him more nervous than he felt comfortable being.

He was glad to know all was well where he stood.

Oh, well then... He huffed, I guess I'm glad I didn't wander off too far, now? The chance in the female's tone made him aware of the seriousness in her sort of warning (at least, that's how he took it), but being the brute he was, the Brit thought either way, he could manage on his own, when faced with a threat. After all, he had been in what could be described as a gang in his home country.

The bow was brought back up, due to his commenting on it. Admittedly, no. Haven't really ever seen one up close, either, t' tell ya the truth. He nodded.

He listened carefully to the information this stranger was giving him on the area, listening out for words that may have sounded familiar, or at least inviting enough.

After hearing what trouble it would cause to trespass into a pack's territory, the aussie dog decided to steer clear of any boundaries better left alone.

Halifax, I 'ave been feelin' most at 'ome there. Harvey nodded, Best be avoidin' packs, now, we should. Would 'ate t' 'ave any bovver cause on my part, I would.

He shrugged, So, I would say based on tha' lil' tidbit o' stuff ya so kindly informed me with... The merle canine smirked, as if in thanks, though it was a poor job, ...I should head where the moss faces. North, it is, right?

He didn't want to continue coming off as a complete imbecile.

WC: 305b OOC: She is too nice for her own good lol, and a bit talkative O.O

“We wouldn’t hurt you, unless you tried to harm us, but it’s always best to keep customs and stay out of borders and ask permission if you want to go through.” She said, feeling she was being a bit harsh on her words of warning earlier. She thought for a minute when he spoke of never using or even handling one and then held her hand out with the bow to him; “They are mighty handy when it comes to hunting, or even sport and challenges to others. I enjoy hitting targets and trying to beat the wolf i’m competing with, or even my own records. But everyone has their preferences. I hunt with both bow and body.” She said smiling a little, hunting was a passion she had since she was a puppy and cooking, it was a career to her it was the best thing man could have ever created and enjoyed making her own recipes just for her canine friends.

“Unless you want to join a pack, or have a good reason to be near it, then yes it’s best to stay clear of it, but we tend to bark before we bite,” She said with a laughing smile on her face. She was one to say that as she had pointed the weapon she had offering at an ally because he was just standing at the boarders pacing. His question she nodded; “If you wish I can join you I’m out here to hunt anyway a bit of a walk to the edge of the forest could do me a bit of good.” She said, it was an open offer, if he accepted she’d join him, but if he refused she would let him on his way and go her own.

((328)) OOC: No worries, Harv can get pretty talkative himself.. xD

Eh, I don't usually 'ave the right first impression, 'specially when dealin' with leaders and such. Harvey smiled, But, nice t' know I wouldn't be immediantly maimed.

A soft laugh escaped him before he paused, watching as the female held out her weapon. Flopped ears perked, the merle aussie reached out to inspect it, interested in how one could manage surviving and amusing themselves with such a simple item.

Boy, must o' taken a lot o' practice, then, it did! Doesn't quite seem like the easiest thin' t' do. But then again, I tend t' leave it up t' body, and wit. Charm 'elps. He smirked devilishly, bi-coloured eyes staring at the woman. Nothin' ya can't do with a sharp tongue and high status... Though, guess I kinda lost the ability t' use the second one 'ere...

He huffed, shrugging his broad shoulders before letting go of the topic.

Not really lookin' forward t' joinin' a pack, really.. At least not quite yet. 'Aven't really learned me way 'round 'ere, would be a bloody shame t' 'ave t' follow some poor bloke about due t' me ignorance. The Brit nodded, 'Sides, tha's a real commitment, there, it is... Would 'ave t' ponder tha' a bit before takin' any action.

Harvey was rambling now, but it'd seemed like forever since he could have a conversation with somebody else, or at least with an individual so... unique.

Back where he was from, those who hunted with bows were primitive, and in old stories. Besides that fact, this stranger being a woman up to fighting and the more masculine subject of competition intrigued the ex-gang member. He wouldn't mind getting to talk more.

I wouldn't mind a bit if ya joined me, miss! The canine male laughed, By all means, it could only make the trip more interestin', y'know what I mean? An' I enjoy the company. I'm a social man meself, so I 'ave no problems with it at all.

WC: 589 OOC: Here! Have a novel!! *whistles innocently*

She couldn’t hide her grin when he spoke in a joking manner, though borders were always a serious threat he was not in that category and she could sense his humor in it all. She heard rumors that if a wolf came so much as a breath close to cercatori that they would be chased out if they had no good reason being there, due to deaths in the packlands. She had even come face to face with another archer and found out that some chose to shoot first and ask questions later, she still had the scar to prove that.

She watched him intently as he seemed to add interest to her bow. His ears, so strange that they folded down even perked, but not in the way she would suspect, did he not have full control of them? It was a strange thought, but she knew everyone was different. At his comment she nodded it took only a month to get used to it to hit a good strong target many more to do well and she knew it would take at least another year to become a master at it; “It is worth it, when you want to feed many, you can just use this and you can down a deer by yourself with one or two shots. I have only used it on one wolf, after she shot me.” She said remembering the disaster of a day that was, and then she didn’t hit the woman all the way because she was shot in the shoulder herself, the wound had gone into leather and punctured the skin a little, the arrow went straight through her, or it had to without tearing too much of her body apart.

She smiled and nodded, she wasn’t expecting him to up and join one, but it was always best to know where one stood with a pack, not to mention the limitless protection one could give. That was a preference to one though and just jumping into a pack was not something one did. She knew the packs around here since she was a pup, some of them were unknown for a while, but she felt that she picked the best one for her. He would have to find his own way, and if he wanted to stay out of the business of packs it was his own choice. “It’s always best not to go blindly rushing into things yes.” She said and laughed inside her head... she was one to talk.

She beamed happily at his acceptance, nodding for him to go in the northern direction. Moss was all good and well, but who needed that when there was someone there to help along the way? “Well it would be my pleasure to help you out of these ghastly wood. They aren’t so dangerous once you get use to them. Been running these parts since I was a pup though, so I suppose it’s easier for me. But if you ever need a friend well I can be sure to be around.” SHe said smiling, perhaps she did make a new friend but how many times they would see one another depended on many things and distance was one of them. She visited Halifax a few times already, though the first time she had been distracted by a drunk, handsome, and very charming man, the second she did make it and got a little adventure out of it.

((526)) Ohmy! ouo

Though he'd never been in an official "pack" really, Harvey Butler understood respecting the boundaries of certain communities. He was once involved in a gang, one ran most like the mafia, and unlike last of the human ones, filled with graffiti bearing delinquents. Money and power were top priority if one wished to succeed, and the members, Harv included, would pay any costs to acquire such.

It was a selfish, shameful lifestyle, but once included, it was more than difficult to return to life safe and soundly. Due to obtaining intimate knowledge, members were often killed, so the secrets of the gang couldn't be spread.

Harvey was lucky. He was kicked from the group, thanks to his inability to complete a contract, and blessed with another chance. The merle canine was aware, though, that if he should step foot back into the posse's grounds, or run into a member with authority, he could and should be finished with, and in a horrid fashion.

This is what he was running from. His entire past was filled with bloodshed, greed, pride and fear. It was no way to live, and after realizing his faults and mistakes, Harvey was more than grateful to get to go through this blessed catharsis.

He shook his head, listening now to the woman next to him. He smiled.

Really now? Well, must say, th' does sound mighty useful. Still don't know if I could really get the 'ang o' it, personally, but... The dog shrugged his broad shoulders, Like ya said, all up t' preference. Whatever gets the job done, it is.

The gang had been a family, once. Other than them, Harvey had no friend or relatives to go to when injured, emotionally unstable (as his anger issues were far worse when this rebellious, ruthless stage was in session) or otherwise in need to assistance.

If he said he completely regretted joining, he'd be lying.

In whole, it was a bad idea, but the benefits gained still caused the aussie dog to feel some remorse. He had the money to do what he wished, to go where he pleased, to see who he wanted to see... Anything he wanted, he could easily obtain. He had people under his command, a reputation that kept him respected, despite most of that being conceived by fear.

It was how he got into that position that made him sick to remember.

He shook the thoughts from his head again, cursing himself for dwelling so much on his history instead of taking advantage of this new opportunity.

Well, then tha'd pro'ly be best, no? Seein' as ya know these woods so well, an' I pro'ly couldn't make me through a one way street. Harvey was mumbling his words some, his mood drastically brought down with memories of his previous lifestyle. He tried to crack a smile, and go on.

A friend? Yeh... I should fancy me one o' those. The dog nodded, Would be nice t' not be so lonely no more. At least for the time it takes t' get out o' 'ere, tha' is. Thank ya, miss.

His smile was a little more genuine now.

WC: 342 OOC: Blarrrg sorry lol but it makes up for the novel i spose

“It is very useful, I was actually taught when I went south, it was pretty hard to understand when I was shown but it gave me something to do other than mope about.” Mope about her parents leaving her, but that wasn’t to be said out loud. They both had their tales they didn’t want saying, though she didn’t really know it with him. She smiled though raised her eyebrow when he spoke; “Uh.... what’s a one way street?” She asked. She may rummage through cities, and live in a town, but she had no experience in any human technology besides cooking, archery, gardening and horseback riding. She tilted her head in confusion. He seemed less inclined to talk and it made Eclipse wonder what went through

She nodded. She had many traveling companions, ones that wanted to act as her guardian others as her friends, and it was always nice to have the company around. He seemed genuine at what he said and she nodded; “It’s not a problem at all, maybe someday you can brave the woods again and you won’t get lost.” she said smiling. He seemed to have what she said stuck in his head already, he’d proved that; “It really isn’t a problem, I’m sure i’ll find something along the way, just had to get my mind off things going around in my head and hunt a little.” She said, and though she had company he would easily help her get her mind off things and there was no saying she couldn’t find something on the way back or even sleep in the forest for the heck of it. She then set the pace, headed north as he hinted he often visited Halifax so that was probably where he was most comfortable, and could set his barrings from there. "So you are new to Nova Scotia? Did you come from across the sea?" She met many from across the sea that had accents, not all of them the same, but they were all accented none the less

((381)) No worries! Sorry about his accent. ;n; Trying to both capture it somewhat accurately, and leave it understandable. ;u;

I can understand tha'... Figured instead o' mopin' 'about meself, I'd go out an' try t' find somefink more amusin' t' spend me time wif. Harvey shrugged, An' despite me gettin' lost, I 'ave t' say, I'd rather be 'ere leanin' 'about this place an' it's people than stuck back in tha' ol' city whinin' an' cryin' for me mum.

He tilted his head some in confusion. Who hadn't heard of streets? And many clearly had signs that said one way, a clear message that Harvey could only assume was obvious to all.

Then again, she may not have noticed. The city was ruined, and he felt hinted that she wasn't a dweller of the urban life, whereas he grew up living in the crowded places and breathing the smoggy air that came along with it. The noise, the bustle, the rude comments that left one wondering why on Earth somebody could say such a thing in public, and with a lady present, no less!

...He shrugged.

It's an expression, it is. Y'know... Only one way out o' it, but I still can't find me way? Jus' sayin' I get lost pre'y easily... The Brit muttered.

Ha, maybe! Harvey laughed, his mood quickly changing. Or if may jus' be me luck tha' I can't ever find me way through this bloody wood... 'Haps I should jus' keep ya 'round, eh, love? He smirked. A soft sigh escaped him as enjoyed the lack of chaos. He'd gotten lost, and it caused him discomfort, but now, he was no longer alone, and off to find his way back "home". All was going well.

His tail swayed some behind him, Well, if you're sure it's not a bovah... Don't want t' make ya miss out on anyfin' ya need t' get done yourself.

The red merle dog followed afterward at first, moving to catch up so that he could be beside her as she spoke to him.

Oh, yeh... Jus' got 'ere from London. 'Cross the big blue, I did. Harvey gave a slight nod, From East End. In range o' the ol' Bow Bells. I'm a Cockney, if ya couldn't tell...

He smiled. How 'bout yourself? Gonna be a long walk, I would assume... Couldn't 'urt t' get t' know each other, right?

WC: 500 OOC:

Eclipse stifled a giggle at his comment. At least the last part. She honestly couldn’t see him crying for his mother, which she was sure that’s who he was talking about. She entirely agreed with him and she let him know; “I can understand that entirely, I have never really stayed in one spot, there’s always too much to see and too much to do. And so many things to learn, I know I can’t live a whole lifetime and learn all there is to know.” She said, wolves being what they were, they did tend to live short lifetimes, shorter than that of the old humans.

His explanation about his expression made her blush perfusely. She felt a little more than embarrassed, how she had not caught onto that even without having any knowledge of old human habits... She did her best to shrug it off and let herself learn this lesson. He seemed to have mood swings of sorts, a thought to keep her own temper in place and she grinned happily as he joked around; “But I get myself lost on purpose just so I can find my way back home!” She joked. There were times where she did that actually, though she had a pretty good sense of direction and was good about finding her way home again. They were moving side by side now and she shook her head; “No no, I have no problem or I would have parted ways already. I like a little adventure and getting sidetracked is a bit of an adventure to me.” She said with a bright smile.

He spoke of where he was from, london, though she knew absolutely nothing about it. She had never been across the ocean much less more than 300 miles from her own birth place. She nodded though, even if she was quite interested in where he was from she wasn’t sure he wanted to keep explaining it though she was sure she was safe on at least one question; “What is london like? I have never been across the sea, and I honestly haven’t heard of this place before. I heard about russia, and um... denmark i think? and a few other places across the sea.”

His question made her take her time, but only slightly she wanted to find a good place to start and pointed to the north west, “I was born around there, near the Bay of Fundy, in an old pack called Dahlia de Mai, it’s no longer there, but the land is still beautiful I suppose my normal life is really open to all who walk these lands.” She said smiling a little, she was not too sad about it but she wished it was more of a mystery, adventurous, though it truly was in a way after her parents abandonment and her running off herself... her life was nothing but an adventure.

((417)) Thank you for finding thisssss. ;u;

Hearing her giggle, the dog couldn't help but to smirk triumphantly, as he was man who much enjoyed amusing others, especially lovely ladies. Agreed! The world is too big, an' life is too short. May as well do with it what ya can, I says Harvey nodded, An' if ya sit 'round too long, you'll miss out. So much goes on, but it'd all be but t' waste if ya act like a bum.

'Sides, if I 'ad decided t' stay in one place an' wait for an answer, I may 'ave nevah go'en t' meet such a lovely lady like yourself, hm? He sighed with a signature grin. He grew more confident with her expressions, assuming it appropriate to wrap a strong arm around her shoulders.

It was his turn to chuckle now in responce to her joking. Ah, yeh... I can see it! The aussie dog nodded, playing along. Always a fun lil' past time, 'til ya can't find your way back 'ome.

Wha's life without a lil' adventure from time t' time, hm? The Brit's smirk was still visible, and growing as he felt more at ease, and back to being his usual, cocky self. Well, glad ya didn't find me too strange, it's nice t' 'ave ya tag along. 'Specially when I doubt I would 'ave been able t' find me way back without ya.

Harvey laughed again, softly, enjoying the company and the conversation. He'd missed being able to talk like this, especially to somebody other than the rough and ruthless brutes his dared call companions in his gang days.

His tail swayed some behind him as he walked with her. London? Oh, it's... Pre'y nice, I think. Very rainy... Always 'ave tha' t' remember it by. Real lovely, though... The buildin's tha' 'ave made it are unbelievable... His mind had drifted off as he imagined he was back in the city, the foggy air surrounding him, the overcast keeping it cool and the unforgettable landmarks that made London so fascinating to him. What made it home...

A mirthful laugh erupting from inside him brought Harvey Butler back to reality, Ah, sorry... Nevah been t' Russie or Denmark meself. Would figure them t' be pre'y cold, yeh? Though, I 'ave 'eard they're quite lovely places.

Oh, so ya stay 'round 'ome? Must be pre'y close t' anybody else 'round these parts, aren't ya? Well, 'cept outsiders like me tha' go an' get themselves lost... The merle male smiled again, keeping close still.
