What dreams may come both dark and deep

Set at dawn

She awoke with a start, her body convulsing for a split second as she came out of the nightmare she'd been caught up in. In the dream she had been trying to run from Salvia, her littermate and favored child of their mother. Salvia had been part of the reason why she had left altogether; Wretch had been training with Gideon daily to become stronger so that she would never come out of a fight so badly again. Her littermate had broken her leg and bitten her several times, which had made Wretch's entire puppyhood rather dismal. She'd been stuck inside without much contact with anyone else other than Saul. He had been her world. Still was, in fact.

She had to get used to the idea that Saul had other children...adoptive brothers and sisters who were younger than her. And that he now had a mate. She couldn't believe that so much had changed since they'd become separated. Wretch had refused the invitation to sleep in the village, wanting to take a day to really go around and choose her living quarters. So she had slept in the wagon, which they had parked outside of the horse barns, atop hay-stuffed pillows that made her eyes itch and nose twitch as they always had. It was something familiar, anyway. She was having a hard time accepting the changes that had come about since her departure, and it felt nice to have something that smelled like their homeland to sleep on.

A loud squeal broke the silence around her, and she heard her horse Tyr wake up and shuffle about in his stall in surprise. Wretch sat upright, blinking in the darkness for a few moments before shuffling toward the rear end of the wagon and using the ladder to exit it. She headed toward the sound in the darkness, sniffing at the breeze. She could smell blood...but there was something else, too. She found the source of the squeals before long; a fox had gotten its leg stuck in a patch of vines growing along the ground but had just tried to keep going. It appeared that it had broken something; its leg was stuck at a weird angle, the fire-colored creature struggling and giving loud, frightening squeals.

Wretch moved quickly and quietly. She wasn't that much larger than the shocked, pained creature but she used her hands as an advantage. She gripped the fox beneath its neck and underneath its stomach, turning it to the side and lowering it so that she could pull it backward and get the leg out of the cluster of vines. It did not like this and fought her every step of the way, reaching around to try and bite and claw at her with its good front foot. Quit that. Be sensible. She demanded, popping it over the head with one hand. It stopped in its movements then, simply staring at her with wide golden eyes that reflected the colors of the sunrise overhead. She picked the beast up, beginning to walk back to the safety of the barn, where she could deal with the beast in peace.

A familiar warmth covering her face awoke the midnight girl, hands reaching up to push the lynx off of her gently, feature rearranging into the girls best attempt of a scowl at her feline companion and not doing a very good attempt when all Omi did was roll onto her back and look all too cute. Reaching out she allowed for the cat to rub against her outstretched palm, smiling shyly down at one of her few true friends before wriggling to the edge of her bed of pelts and pulling herself up onto two feet. Padding over to the window she pulled back the rough, tattered blanket that was being used to cover the small opening in the hill-house, vibrant eyes narrowing slightly at the subtle brightness that bled in. Looking out it became obvious the time was roughly around dawn, the house seemingly silent indicating that everyone else was either out or asleep.

Turning back she perched at the edge of her bed, scratching lightly upon Omi's head as she considered what she wanted to do now that she was up. A small ache in her stomach indicated she was hungry, but she didn't wish to wake up Hael demanding for food.... just yet. Aside from Hael there was no one currently within the lands she wished to spend time with and with her... physical weaknesses she could do little more then draw maps to aid the pack. Blinking her eyes she smiled smugly as the idea struck her; so preoccupied in drawing maps she had begun to neglect simply drawing, of which she more often then not found was both relaxing and a good way to waste time, until Hael was around and she could get some food that was.

Closing her door behind her, the midnight girl slunk through the house, careful to minimise as much noise as possible as he picked up her bag of art equipment stored beside the main door, throwing it over her right shoulder she exited the hill-house with Omi trailing behind her.

Tugging at the strap she fiddled with it till it settled across her more comfortable, two legs propelling her forward at a brisk pace and her sights fixed straight ahead, somewhat oblivious to that which was around her. She wasn't out and about to draw maps or do productive work for the pack, but to find simple enjoyment for herself; yet, even as she walked she plucked out a pad and began to doodle down the sights and map out where she was going and what she saw in the limited light that surrounded her. Staring at the doodles before her, she chuckled lightly. “Maybe this is becoming abit of a habit” she mused allowed, entertained by how even in the near-dark she was drawing maps as she went.

Following no set path, the girls wanderings soon led her towards the horse stables, the rose-pink lights of the rising sun giving colour to that which would be nothing more then a boring old building otherwise. Pausing she stared for a moment until Omi wrapped around her ankles, the girls eyes dragging downwards to her companion, before flicking back up at the sounds of distress and unfamiliar voice. Dropping her equipment back into her back, she reached into the side pouch inside it and pulled out her remaining small dagger before edging her way over to the strange sound.

Crouching down she hid herself behind some foliage, watching the scene before her with mild curiosity and caution.

She hadn't been able to decide what to do for housing just yet, but the wagon had been a comfortable place to sleep. Wretch didn't know about the safety and security of this pack just yet, and this would be the first one that she'd joined since she had left Ichika behind. She had been attacked quite a few times in those lands, once by her own littermate Salvia. She wanted to find a house to settle into quickly, but at the same time she felt that she needed to scope the place out a little better before making a final choice. Wretch secretly hoped to find a home near Ezra, the large husky who she knew from a past encounter. He'd met her at the borders and she wanted to catch up with him and see his home as well.

She was cursing her cautious nature at this point in time now, as dark clouds began to roll in the skies overhead. They darkened the morning light and made it appear as if night were reclaiming the lands as she jogged back to the barn as quickly as she could. If there was one thing that Wretch was not a fan of, it was rain. She grumbled a bit to herself, taking off at a run with the animal in tow. She hadn't gotten more than ten feet before running into the same patch of foliage that the darker female was crouched in. Harrow seemed to come up out of nowhere, her pelt as dark as the shadows, and Wretch gave a screech of surprise as she tumbled toward her.
