Sira was doing what she was being taught and every day she would practice. She would use her ears her senses her every instinct. She never knew what she would find and today seemed like any other day. She was sniffing close to the borders when she heard some strange faint.... very faint sound coming from close to the bank. It was like a high pitched sound. An animal call and Sira went after it. The excitement in learning something new just filled the young jackal up with pure happiness. It was an adventure and she was going to take it. She just hoped it wouldn’t become too dangerous.

It got slightly more annoying as she came closer, but it wretched at her heart as it sounded frantic and scared, and soon she learned it was more than one... the sounds were the same but the pitches were different. She let her long legged feet hurry towards the sound and soon came upon two fluffy strange looking wolves. She tilted her head, their noses were so short, and they were so tiny and their ears... they were stranger than even her big eared self. They were not making any sounds she ever heard before and when they walked, they were just sitting prey! The thought came to her mind but was pushed back when she saw the pair of big eyes asking for help. How could she resist such a thing? She moved closer, but one of them made a stranger noise and the fur on its body went straight up and Sira jumped back making a yipping noise; “Not gonna hurt you, who are you? Why are you scared, are they chasing you too?” Sira asked in a tone that sounded worried, but the animals didn’t answer them and she tilted her head confused... why couldn’t they talk?

417 - Ink's all curious. Tongue

Ink wasn't really... sure what he'd noticed that morning, but something wasn't right. Sura was fine. Roland was fine. Coli wasn't in labor. Tem was fine. The pack, in general, was fine. So what was wrong? The air was thick with tension to him and he couldn't help leaving the borders behind. His feet carried him, on all fours, towards an area he'd never gone before. The salty air told him he was getting closer and closer to the shoreline. Good- that would make it easier to find his way home. Still, that tense feeling hung tight to his pelt. What was wrong?

His mind wandered as he did, back to his night with Thorn. Thorn. His fur prickled almost pleasantly at the thought of the older male, his hackles lifting slightly. He'd never been treated so well before, nor had he ever felt so... good. His tail swung awkwardly behind him as he skirted along the edge of a cliff, one overlooking the ocean below. No shore here. Just... drop. Ahead, he could see a beach, but he wasn't sure if this was to be his destination. What was wrong? The tension remained.

He stopped. What was that? A soft mewling sound nearby. Long ears perked and pivoted to try and catch it better. Kittens? It's what it sounded like. They sounded scared. Could this have been why he'd come this far from his home? To find lost kittens? What was he, some sort of superman? Jeeze. Still, he couldn't leave them now. The boy padded on quickly, heading for the source of the noise. It wasn't until he could hear them clearly that a new sound caught him up again. A voice. Female. Worried. Confused?

He rounded some bushes and rocks and stopped, curiousity getting the better of him. There sat a girl with a familiarity he couldn't deny. Her pelt was dappled in reds, browns and grays. In front of her were a pair of kittens, one angry and the other scared. He perked his ears up and smiled despite himself. She was cute. So were the kittens, but in a different way. He couldn't help it, though- after the things Thorn had taught him, he looked at people in a different... light. Still, he'd behave.

"Everything okay?" Came his soft voice. He wouldn't come too close. From what he'd learned from Roland and others, sneaking up on people wasn't a good way to go about making friends. Not usually.

Sira was already on edge for being outside her packlands, and it was even more so with the unhappy animals in front of her, but she nearly bolted when she found the male come up, but instead of running she stepped in front of the two little helpless creatures; “Go go, you can’t hurt them go away They are nice wolves they can’t hurt you!” She said, her voice angry stern, this was the first time in her life she stood up for something. She’d never even stood up for herself but when it came to the kittens she would fight to the death.

“They are not your food go look somewhere else.” She said her tail up high now, her back fur lifted up, the first time she let herself bristle. She normally backed down as soon as she saw someone come by, but her maternal instinct was working overdrive and she was going to protect these.... she supposed puppies, no matter how ugly they looked. She yelped a little when the bristling little kitten caught her in the back leg and she yipped jumping up further, now not knowing what to do as one of them attacked her and there was a strange man quite close to her.

162 - Cute.

The moment the coyote lady noticed him, she became defensive. He stepped back, ears flicking to dip behind his head, his expression the picture of confusion. "Wait, I wasn-'t going to-" She scolded him against eating them and he stuck his tongue out in disgust. Eat them!? Kittens!? Wait, had she called them wolves? What kind of canine hadn't heard of cats? He sat his ass down with a plop, smirking slightly when the angry kitten latched his tiny claws into her leg. "Easy, I'm not going to hurt them." He soothed, tail wagging slightly behind him. What a mess.

"I came 'cause I heard the mewling. Those are kittens. Baby cats. Young little things, too." He smiled over to them, ears flicking forward again. Then he made a sound unlike any a wolf would normally make- "Psst pst pst." Sure enough, it worked like a whistle and the quieter kitten perked up, ears swiveling to catch the sound. "Heh. Cute."

Word Count :: 304 OOC: Much looooveeee. I'm guessing yours is the timid quiet one then Tongue

It hurt to be attacked by those tiny little claws and she showed it but as the other spoke, it was soothing and quiet, a tone that she heard many times before, someone trying to calm another down. That was what she did. “You mean they aren’t wolves?” She looked down at the tiny fluffball that had attached itself to her thing stringy leg and could tell, if she opened her mind to the idea... that this was most definitely not a wolf. “Oh... well... I never saw a... you said kitten?” She didn’t know much of life cycles of any animal. She met a few puppies but had never been around to see them grow so the word baby meant little to her and to hear the words a baby cat... made even less sense. She gave a tilt to her head in confusion but wasn’t going to push the subject further. She knew very little in this world and she knew she would eventually learn the rest when it came. It just took time.

“They don’t have a pack? They sound so scared, and they can’t hunt how will they get food?” She asked her maternal instincts coming back to herself. She was worried for the animals that she now wanted to foster as X’yrin fostered Sira, and Zeus. the little brat, though she didn’t know why she didn’t like him as much as the others... he weas a nice kid... she just felt a certain unhappiness when she saw him with X’yrin. “Should we find their pack and help them back?” She asked, she would have been far more reserved if not would have fled the area upon seeing the man, but it was the kittens that kept her from running.

297 - Indeed. And I'll probably be finding another kitty for reference- that one's hard to find copies of. I'm going to try and keep the same general look, though. x3 I love the fluffy tabby-ness.

He nodded when she sought out confirmation on the name of the little bundles. That was right. Kittens. She went on to worry about them, fretting over a pack and for a moment, Ink tried to imagine cats traveling and working in packs as wolves did. He couldn't help the laugh that bubbled up from his throat at the very thought. Cats! In a pack! He looked down and pictured the sight of a dozen little fluffy things tracking deer and rabbits for dinner, sleeping in dens and yowling like a wolf would howl. Once his laughter died down a bit, he gasped a few times to catch his breath and shook his head hurriedly.

"Cat's don't live in packs!" He chirped, a little higher pitched than intended. He cleared his throat and continued in a calmer tone. "They're picky about who they like. My family had a couple stray cats that traveled with us, hunting field mice and sleeping in hay. They're not as social as we are." He waved his tail behind him in a pleasent thrumming beat. "If you want to help them, why don't you take one home with you?"

He looked down at the pair of furry felines and mused over the idea of taking one home himself. How would Sura react to a cat living with them? He knew how to take care of a cat, easily, and his house could just as easily support one. The big back yard was a perfect place for them to hunt mice and birds and that would be useful if his ideas for gardens and a pond came into being. "They eat meat like we do, but I'm guessing these guys can't quite handle much more than a mouse or vole yet."

Word Count :: 327 OOC: Rawr is all good Smile

She felt indignant at his laughter... he was laughing at what she said and she felt her face get hot as she scowled at him, but as he spoke the words she could feel herself cooling down... he was laughing thinking about them living in packs when apparently they didn’t. How could such small creatures not live in packs? She wondered, as she stared at the kitten that finally let go, but still arched its back, how they were able to feed themselves. She looked over at the white man as he explained how they could help them and blinked. Her? Take care of something? She had never thought of that before.

Thoughts filled her mind with mothering that X’yrin showed herself and even more with the pup that she kept close to her. To be able to take care of someone else... that would give her purpose. She tilted her head as he spoke of her own main meals... she couldn’t take down much more than that herself. Even the smallest hoofed animal she couldn’t take down with another jackal... then again... there were the sheep. But she nodded; “Sira hunts those. She will take care of a kitten,” She said looking between her legs again. It seeemd the angry kitten, the mostly black, but white and orange kitten, calmed down enough to see it wasn’t in danger. “They can’t take care of themselves... where is the one that does?” She asked curiously. There had to have been one, like how X’y was there for her when she needed her there had to be another cat X’y around for these two kittens right? Then the memories of her mother boiled into her head and her heart sank quite a bit as she wondered if this was what happened with these two... or maybe something did happen and their own mother was lost somewhere. Whatever the case she was committed now.
