(552) omg, they're here! they're here! set september 19th.

A cool september breeze came through the open window overhead, a welcomed contrast against her fever-stricken body. Her temperature had risen considerably in a short amount of time. She knew it was coming. Her abdomen was harder, unusually bloated. Saul never left the house for more than a few minutes, keeping a close eye on her vital signs as her gestation inched its way closer to the end. Lilin had been quiet since the birth of Colibri's children, more than usual. The Virdings had scarcely exchanged more than a few words since - Lilin's unintentional withdrawal weighed heavily on the young couple and Saul's silence was taken as acceptance. Despite their lack of communication, they had gone to bed holding each other; a testament to the love still burning underneath it all. Her green-eyed beau must have grown accustomed to her tossing and turning, as she often repositioned herself to accomodate the discomfort that came with her pregnancy.

He was fast asleep already - she could feel his shallow breathing against her body. It had been a long time since he'd gotten a good night's rest and she had no intention of ruining this moment. Mediterranean irises watched his moonkissed face, amused by the ever-present frown adorning his features even as he slept. A wistful sigh passed her lips as she brought a hand to her lower abdomen. They had spent the last several months slowly, very slowly getting ready for this. Things just felt unsettled tonight. She felt heavier than usual, a piece of information she'd intentionally kept to herself. Lilin couldn't quite decipher if intuition or paranoia had triggered these feelings of anxiety. She had dealt with the heaviness and occasional cramping in silence, shifting from one position to another - seeking to find the most comfortable alternative. It came and went, allowing a peculiar numbness to wash over her for a little while. Had she fallen asleep?

Her complacency was short-lived. She awoke to the truth staring her dead in the face. Pressure and discomfort had extended to her lower back, piercing through her body at regular intervals. They were coming. Colibri's pained expression flashed before her eyes, in a grimace that surely rivaled her own. Cautiously propping herself up into a sitting position, Lilin inhaled deeply through her nostrils before doubling over and wrapping her arms around her protruding belly. Unlike her sister, the Virding had every intention of doing this on her own. It was in her best interest not to wake Saul, who certainly would not understand her wishes. It was only when she slid off the mattress that she noticed the humidity between her legs and the moistness on her side of the bed. She swallowed the lump in her throat as she recalled the amount of pain Colibri already been in when her water broke.

She made it out of the room in relative silence, with only the creaking of the old wooden floors betraying her movements. Before long, she found herself lying on her side in the adjacent room - in the same bed where her sibling had given birth. She found comfort in that simple fact. It was only once inside, behind a closed door, that she allowed caged whimpers and detained pants to escape her maw; succumbing to the amplifying contractions.

eeeeeee, i know i know!!!!

Three new lives had been welcomed into Vinátta a handful of days ago, despite the terrifying experience after the trio were born. Three little girls, who'd caused their mother a number of problems. He'd read about bleeding after giving birth, but it had been scary to experience it. Thinking that they really were going to lose Colibri, however, had gripped the male with a dread and fear he hadn't felt before. Eventually he'd been able to calm the bleeding and she'd been okay. Of course, that didn't stop Saul from being overbearingly protective- as much as he could he visited the new mother, mostly with rabbits that were easy to eat, to check on her and make sure she was doing alright. It perhaps didn't help that, despite having no argument or falling out, he and Lilin didn't seem to be talking to each other. He'd accepted it, imagining everything that was going through his mates head- she'd just witnessed Colibri's birth and complications- he could only imagine how scared she was.

Thankfully, the pair found solace in each others arms and still went to bed with one another. Since her pregnancy began to grow, Saul had grown accustomed to the tossing and turning that took her at all times of the night. This evening was no different, despite the blaringly obvious fact that Lilin was closing in on her due date. It would be any day now, but the male quite liked his testicles in tact and didn't think Lilin would appreciate him pointing this fact out. He'd fallen into a fitful sleep, dreams bad. He'd woken with a jolt, as he had five days ago when Colibri had found them. Looking around, Lilin wasn't there and he panicked. Tearing up and away from the bed, he searched their bedroom first before another whine echoed through the house. This was the noise that had woken him.

Instinctively, he moved towards Temeraire's old bedroom, which appeared to have become a nursing den. He was briefly reminded of Grace's pregnancy, wondering if she would use this house to deliver new lives into Vinátta before his worry propelled him forward and he found the closed door. Without thinking, he entered, catching sight of Lilin curled on her side. Oh, baby... Its time, they're coming. He whispered softly, making a move to get closer and help her.

(598) Here comes Lund!

The Soulstorm heir thought of her mother - how could she hope to raise children properly when necessary morals and virtues had been missing from her own upbringing? Her puppyhood had been every child's worst nightmare. Lilin was confident she'd chosen the right father for them, a perfect match; giving them a proper chance to live in blissful innocence should she ever succumb to a mental illness, as both of her parents had. She hoped they would be strong and full of ambitions, so that one day they would relieve the Virdings from their duties and carry on their family's legacy as Vinatta's bright future. She didn't know what hurt more- the contractions or the unknown. Would they be as healthy as her sister's daughters? The mother-to-be did not think she would forgive herself if their chance at a normal life was stripped from them based on genetics alone. All of the pain she'd endured until now would have been in vain.

Pain came and went- she found temporary solace in between contractions and she could only thank the Gods for their mercy. Lilin did her very best to ride out the waves in moderate silence, clenching her teeth and curling up even tighter. This was not how one delivered puppies, but the huddled position allowed her to cope with the convulsions a little better - or so she thought. In the distance, she thought she'd heard the faint thundering sounds of a late summer storm. Was this a sign from Thor himself or her subconscious desperately seeking his presence? Pressing her face into the fresh linen, inhaling the smell of pine trees clinging to the material, Lilin inhaled shakily before exhaling with a defeated whine as another cramp tore through her body. ''Saul,'' she murmured amidst desperate sniffles, making her seem much younger than she actually was. She had her back to him, but she'd heard the door open behind her. There were so many things she wanted to tell him but they were running out of time. ''You're their father,'' she warned, her voice strained and quivering. ''Not my midwife.''

She hoped he would know his place and not overstep any boundaries. Her mother and her grandmother had done it without help, and so had her ancestors before that. The Virding was about to say more but her jaw clamped shut when a stronger cramp caused her body to re-align in a position that would facilitate the passage of her firstborn. ''Oh Gods,'' she gasped in between breaths, gripping Saul's arm with uncharacteristic strength. It felt good to redirect her pain and in a twisted way, she wanted him to feel just a fraction of what she was feeling. Her muscles contracted and pushed for what seemed like an eternity, until she finally felt release. She did not dare look, not immediately. Fear paralyzed her momentarily but she vaguely remembered what Colibri had done to stimulate the breathing. With trembling arms, she propped herself up into a sitting position from where she could pick up the child and perforate the membrane - gingerly licking its tiny face until she saw the puppy gasp for air.

Her lower lip quivered uncontrollably as she performed the actions required of her, only daring to look for Saul's approval once the cord had been gnawed off. Irises of mediterranean blue threatened to liquify and spill wild and uncontainable tears. Her anguished repose lasted only minutes before her labor picked up once more, and she relinquished her hold on her firstborn - allowing her mate to get up close and personal with his youngest.

im shocked! he didn't get kicked out!!!

The pain that Lilin was going through was evident even with her back to him. As he entered, he could see her hunched over herself, no doubt trying to ease the agony and pressure. Practicality dictated that she would need to shift position to actually give birth, but he knew better than to try and correct her. After his greeting words, he remained quiet. Her soft whimpers were pitiful and painful to him, his own name given on a particularly defeated whimper. Cinnamon-backed ears twitched forward and he looked up in interest- to be rebuffed. He knew he'd been watching her carefully which probably didn't make her feel comfortable. Her reprimand caused a resigned nod to his posture and he withdrew just slightly. He didn't want to impose on this moment- he'd been well aware that while Colibri had needed both of them, Lilin was much more independent than her sister and he was surprised he was able to remain in the room.

It happened fast, her mouth open to say something snapped shut and instinctively her body shifted into an easier position. He couldn't help but move closer- his hand ached to rub her back, to help soothe some of the pain building there. Her almost strangled cry was accompanied by the reflexive grab at his arm and Saul tried to keep the wince from his body. Her grip on his arm was strong, but it was the claws that had slid out and into his skin that stung. Having already seen Colibri go through this process three times, he knew it would be a few moments. He could feel her body pushing and he didn't interfere- she needed to do this on her own. All at once, time seemed to stop and he felt almost suspended in time as his mate gave a last push and, just as Coli's first born, a pup-filled sack dropped to the floor.

His breath caught in his throat and he was unable to move for a moment. He was perhaps relieved that Lilin had the instinct to pick up the pup, breaking the membrane and licking at its face to clear the airways. He couldn't help the radiant smile on his lips as a tiny squeak and the gasp of breath that accompanied the noise. He gave Lilin privacy to clean the pup as she wished, spotting her look of reassurance as the cord had been severed. He allowed a proud smile to touch his lips, his hand coming up to rub her back gently. You're doing amazing. He breathed softly, before the newborn pup was handed to him. It seemed Lilin's labour was a swift one and he could see the signs of the second pup moving towards birth. Cradling the dark pup in his arm, he licked the pups head softly, keeping the small pup warm until Lilin could suckle it.

(638) :> !

Together they had created life. An act she had deemed sinful and punishable by the Gods had rewarded them with a dark baby, alive and well. It was far from over though. As a mixture of pain and discomfort wracked her body once more, Lilin's mediterranean irises remained fixated on her son - so tiny, so vulnerable, and not particularly cute by any means. He was hairless and in no way did he resemble either of his parents. And yet she loved him. He was hers- she had suffered for him; she had relinquished her independence and kissed her beauty goodbye in order to carry him to term. ''Lund.'' The name was fitting. He'd been conceived under the watchful gaze of the Old Gods and he would serve them as she did. He would protect the Sacred Grove and see it for what it really was - a transcendental haven on earth. His future was already being carved out before him; doing so made the pain endurable. A small part of Lillith Stormbringer had come to life. The manner with which Lilin looked at her firstborn son was nearly identical to the way Lillith had once upon a time looked at her daughter. The Virding's gaze was full of hope, as if her children's very existence would somehow give her a second chance at life.

Thankfully enough, her body had a mind of its own. While she pushed and pushed some more, her mind was off gallivanting elsewhere; tuned out from reality until a familiar sense of relief brought her back to earth. Keeping track of time was near impossible - it was difficult to tell how long it had taken for the second puppy to arrive. This one was a little lighter in coloration, resembling more the pack's Godja than its parents. Her salmon tongue found his face with a little more confidence, determined to breathe life into her second son as she'd done with the first. A soft, nearly inaudible wheeze preluded his first breath. Lilin allowed herself to sever the cord connecting them, cleaning the rest of his little body with less haste, not feeling the immediate need to push. He was examined with a fervent intensity as she mentally went over her expanding repertoire of Norse names. ''What do you think of Rúni?'' she questioned softly, turning to meet Saul's emerald gaze. It was a derivative of Rún, a word meaning ''secret'' in the old tongue. Perhaps he'd even live up to his name with a matching personality.

A drowsy numbness hindered her senses for quite some time, tricking her into believing that the pain would dwindle down. ''I- I think it's over,'' she murmured hesitantly, catching her breath just in time before a series of unexpected contractions resurfaced, causing her to set Rúni down on the pelts next to her for warmth. She had spoken too quick. Her arms wrapped around her abdomen as she doubled over, her panting growing louder as a third puppy made its presence known. Before long, a third little form appeared between her trembling thighs. Anxiety rose like bile in her throat when she caught sight of the lighter puppy. She blinked once, twice - visibly panicked by the achromatic coloration. As she brought the girl closer to her maw though, she was comforted by the citrine hues that would no doubt darken with age. The Soulstorm heir assumed she'd inherited the lighter tones from the Dawnrunner blood coursing through Saul's veins and not from a health condition. Her tongue washed over her gingerly, cleaning her as she'd done with her two brothers before facing her mate once more, looking at him expectantly. His only daughter. Surely this would be daddy's little girl - he could have the honor of naming her.

The soft squeaking of the pup in his hand caused the Virding to look down and identify the pup as male. He had another son, Temeraire had a brother, Colibri had a nephew and by bond so did Niernan and Bran. Looking down at the tiny life in his hand, Saul was powerless to stop the tears welling in his eyes and spilling over his face. He wasn't ashamed to cry, knowing that there was far too many emotions in him to settle for anything less than a cathartic release. Holding the boy close to his body, he didn't notice the stillness come over Lilin until her calm word named the boy. Lund. He didn't know what it meant, but it felt right and he was certain it meant something to Lilin and he hoped she would share it with him. He had little time to acknowledge the naming of his second born son, aside from a vigorous nod as he tried to free the lump from his throat, before the harsh panting picked up once more.

This delivery seemed shorter, and longer, to the male as he watched his mate in pain. Lund had begun to squeak in earnest, his pick tinged nose nudging insistently against his chest. It was the pups natural instinct, to search for milk. Trying to soothe the boy was calm strokes and soft coos, he almost didn't witness the birth of his third child. Green eyes widened as they had the first time, his heart pounding in his chest. Unlike Colibri, Lilin was surprisingly private for allowing him in the room and she didn't look at him until the golden browns of their second born came into view. She was a little more lavish in cleaning their second pup off and examining it carefully. He didn't have any indication of gender and not when Lilin suggested a name. Rúni. Despite appearing to fit either gender, he thought the name fit the pup well. I love it... He whispered softly, before he met her gaze and smiled softly.

The pair fell into a comfortable silence, broken only by their firstborns whimpers. Saul moved and placed the boy beside his brother, as Saul quickly found out on cursory glance at the pup. Lilin's soft words caused Saul to look up, his white hand automatically reaching up to cup her cheek. It was short lived however as pain flashed in her deep blue eyes and she moved, arms curling around her abdomen. Saul backed off, wanting to give his mate space and it took less time that he thought for the third born to reveal itself. Even he could see the pale colouration, though it worried him far less than Lilin. As Lilin cleaned the pup, Saul could see the slight touches of blonde wisps on the pups otherwise pale form before she began to squeak as her brothers had. He was speechless- he had a daughter.

Lilin remained silent, looking towards him expectantly. He would name the only girl, it seemed. The pale blonde wips that sprung from her downy coat reminded him of sunbeams and he smiled softly. His limited Norse education hadn't taught him much, but he knew the word for Sun. It was too short, too masculine for his princess though. With a short silence, the word came from Saul's lips almost reluctantly, the intonation indicating that he was unsure. Sólieri... Once the word had been spoken however, there was a certainty that this was the right name. With a grin, Saul bobbed his head once in acknowledgement. Of course, it was now that memories of Colibri's suffering caused a frown on him- Lilin still had to expel the placenta and he hoped beyond anything that it would be different from Colibri's horrifying experience.

Sól. Sólieri. Golden and radiant, like the sun. A weary smile tugged at her lips then, demonstrating the extent of her approval with the name her mate had chosen. He wasn't fluent in the old tongue, but clearly he'd paid enough attention to her lessons if he could come up with such a beautiful name for their daughter. It was an effort well-placed and Lilin was impressed. The birth of her children had been free of complications thus far; aside from the last placenta that was yet to be expelled. Lilin had chewed, licked and eaten the first two placentas that had accompanied her sons. This one, however, took a little longer to emerge. She could sense the palpable anxiety in the room and one look at Saul told her that many things could still go wrong. And yet, in a moment of selflessness, she found comfort in the fact that her life had contributed to the growth of their family. It had not been in vain.

Had she had enough strength left in her, she would have tried shifting. Although she wasn't particularly fond of her four-legged form, something felt right about curling around her puppies. She grew still for a moment, concentrating on her still pulsating inner muscles. Trembling fingers reached behind her neck to untie her pareo, allowing the now-stained material to drop onto her lap. Her sons were lifted off the makeshift mattress and brought to her breasts, where they pushed and nudged each other until they each found their source of nutrition. Lilin wasn't the most knowledgeable when it came to giving birth but instincts told her to prioritize the eldest two for the time being. Sólieri was still tucked in her sire's arms, not raising too much of a fuss. The stimulation did wonders for her body, and the last placenta finally expelled from within her. With a sigh, she lowered herself onto the bed and let nature take its course.

She had no desire to consume the last placenta. In the heat of the moment, the Virding hadn't thought much about what she'd been doing - too intent on getting oxygen into their little bodies. Now that the adrenaline was ebbing away though, she felt no need to eat her daughter's afterbirth. Sólieri was healthy and that's what truly mattered. Reality was rushing back to her in steady doses and before long, the new mother wanted nothing more than to cleanse herself of the mess she'd made. Newly acquired responsibilities and sheer exhaustion kept her in place, where she would remain until all three of her children were fed and content. Then together they would sleep and recover from the longest night of their lives. ''Everything went well,'' she murmured finally, raising her chin to look up at Saul and their youngest child. All five of them would be alright.

If I had words to make a day for you,

I'd give you a morning, golden and true.

I would make this day last for all time,

Give you a night deep in moonshine.

Though there came no verbal agreement that Saul had chosen the right name for their daughter, there came a weary smile that seemed to be an acceptance from his mate as the name settled in both of their minds. He couldn't help his tail beating back and forth behind him as he held his daughter, his only daughter, close to his body to keep her warm and protected. There came a quietness over the pair as they waited, Saul almost holding his breath and Lilin perhaps trying to find the most comfortable position. Her hands came up to pull the strings behind her head, letting the pareo drop into her lap. As she raised their sons to her breasts, Saul caught his breath. It was a beautiful sight, Lilin nursing their children. And it seemed to do the job of delivering the placenta, for a few moments later the afterbirth departed from his mates body.

As Coli had before her, Lilin neglected the afterbirth and Saul knew she wouldn't consume it to retain the nutrients it provided. It would mean that he would need to provide her with fresh meat shortly, but not this night. The morning would bring daylight with which he could hunt and he would make sure Colibri received some of the share. Happiness washed over him as he cradled his daughter and he looked down at her, captured. Her pink mouth opened and closed, a seeking motion that caused the male to chuckle softly. A trembling finger came up to caress his daughters head, trying to soothe her. She would need feeding soon, but for now she was content to settle in his arms and sleep after the exhaustion introduction to the world. Lilin's soft words caused him to look up and he couldn't help the grin he sent her.

Yes... you did amazing. I love you... so much. He whispered softly, green eyes bright with moisture. He didn't want to get overly emotional, but watching everything she'd gone through, the strength it took to give birth to their children after she'd watched the complications with Colibri just a week ago. Scooting closer, he leaned up, his hand still trembling as he tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear and out of her way. His hand dropped to smooth across her cheek, a loving smile given to the female who owned him.
