The skies. The winds. The electricity shimmering in the air. All of it pointed towards one thing- a storm was brewing. And it wasn't going to be pretty. Electric shots fizzled through her powder-white fur as she trudged along, pointing her sleek muzzle angrily towards the wind. Her small frame was weak and delicate against the steadily growing breeze- but her paws remained firmly planted. She wouldn't fall back or halt- no, not until it was mandatory.

Lyris had been appointed for ration collecting. Though she didn't know exactly what she was supposed to be looking for. Food, right? Well, that was easy enough.

This territory was still completely new to her. Scents bombarded her nose and entangled into one huge, confusing mass. Where was she supposed to start in this strange place? Well, she did what she had when she had nowhere to go before- when she was doing little more than wandering the forest, scouting for a new home. She followed the birdsong and the fluttering leaves.

There. Evergreen eyes locked to an auburn leaf, drifting lazily to the earth. Legs moved- long and languid- effortlessly as water tumbling over rocks. Fur was brushed back, pressed against her slender figure as the high-speed winds fruitlessly tried to shove her back. Lyris didn't even pause after passing the fallen leaf, she just searched for her next signal as she continued to run. She would find rations. She would sustain her pack.

The sounds of the winds were beginning to interrupt his train of thought, and X'ies needed to think. Things had changed within the pack over the last few days. Sighting of Jaden and the others had been scarce along with the departure of Sira. Without her the pack was all but nearly devoid of weakness, at least of the physical kind. There was however something strange about her departure that left the pack feeling rather empty, rather soul-less, he couldn't quite place his finger on it. Still with her departure and the arrival of new members he had to adjust his chess set, but could not yet find the time to concentrate on the task at hand. Instead he would move outside and brave some of the weather that was facing them, after all....X'yrin was ill and would likely need more food by the days end.

Hunting was his game, and as he descended from his mountain home it would appear that he was not alone in the hunt, the scent of the newly joined wolf filled his nostrils. She had been taking care of X'yrin whilst he had been away visiting New Dawn, playing out a multi-pack game that would further both himself and the group as a whole. However she seemed to be having some trouble with the weather, and that was one thing that X'ies was used to. In his life he had went from being the proud son of the Lambda Nomads to a vagrant, collecting information and playing his game until the grey wolf came here. Harsh weather he knew, and likely with the signs in the skies...it was bound to get only worse. "Hail young one". He spoke, attempting to keep pace with her. " Hunting are we?".

OOC :: So sorry for the delay!

It had begun to rain.

The wind had picked up, snatching the cold droplets from the sky and pushing them deep into the drenched fur of the young one. Extreme cold was seeping into her skin, clutching her joints like relentless fingers. She would seize up if she didn't find warmth soon. Run. The extra strain on her muscles was bound to warm her up. It would have to.

Long legs pumped harder, thudding the ground and leaving moist pawprints behind in the thick mud. Dark eyes glittered. She considered turning back, but quickly shook the thought away. There would be little time left for her to complete her task. As a newcomer, it was even more vital that she do so.

It's him. Lyris didn't stall, though she slowed her stride, settling into a gentle lope. "X'ies?" She blinked, tilting her scarred muzzle to the left so that she could better view the neutral-colored male. "...Yes. I was assigned to collect rations." Dark eyes glinted in the dim light before she turned her muzzle back forward, picking up her pace a bit more. Time was short. But how was she going to find anything in these circumstances? Everything smelled terribly wet, and mixed with the strange, unfamiliar scents of her new territory, it would be nothing short of a miracle for her to find a scrap of prey in this downpour. She was wandering blind.

Inhale. Exhale. Oxygen passed her lips as she continued to run. She had escaped a freaking grizzly. She had found Sangi'lak, hadn't she? She had been able to hunt since as long as she could remember- this would be a snitch. At least, she hoped it would be. It would be mighty embarrassing for her to fail on her first task as pack member. But her shy persona kept her jaws firmly closed; she wouldn't admit her weakness to X'ies.

So she was hunting due to the oncoming storm. Well at least it seemed that someone within the packs leadership had been smart enough to realize that as things were rationing of food would be needed until the storm died down. That said, he was happy that at least one of his own kind was now doing the hunting. Since they had returned from their previous trip the weakness that had so quickly seeped its way into Sangilak now seemed to be removing itself. Though the culmination of that weakness, seemed to be focused on one point for its final extraction, acting much like a poison. X'yrin had ended up ill, whether it was because of recent events that her own weakness had resulted in, or through genuine illness. " Ah I see, good...there was a time before now that someone else would be appointed this task...her name was Sira, she was... an interesting personality". Likely his inital words would leave the new member feeling on edge, as if she was taking someone else's spot. Truth of the matter though, whilst Sira was...entertaining...she was weak and the amount she could kill was limited.

" But, interesting as she was...the girl was weak, not of wolf blood....it is good that we have someone stronger now to help in our hunting..particularly during this..most trying of times..".

X'ies was in his own way sewing the seeds of loyalty within this member through attempts at friendship. He would grow in power within the pack, that was inevitable...but still keeping a good relationship with the lower ranked members was always a good idea. " But I imagine even for one of strong blood it must be difficult in this weather...the noise...the wet....tracking and killing may be difficult...but that is what makes the strong..strong is it not?". A mischievous grin on his face as he moved slightly closer to the female. "..We persevere through such hardships..".

"Sira?" Lyris did not glance back at the Luperci, instead she plundered forward, narrowing her eyes to deep green chips of ice. Only half her mind was on the conversation at hand. The rest of her physique spoke hunt. Narrow jaws parted and large, papery ears pricked forward, she was trying her best to snuff out all traces of prey. She could almost forget her uncomfortably wet fur and cold skin. If she could just find a single rabbit...

"...I met her at the border, before I was... a pack member." She hesitated, before flicking her feathery tail tip and continuing forward. She didn't feel awkward taking Sira's place- only slightly curious. "I doubt that I can be considered stronger than any in this pack. I am just young and... weak." Her words rang true. She was little more than passable. Her skill set was small, though she knew that she could grow it easily through experience. She could grow to be valuable. She knew she could, and would.

As X'ies moved closer, she only moved that much farther, not really comprehending exactly what he was trying to do. She had heard that this particular male was manipulative. Though she had to learn to trust her pack mates. That didn't mean she couldn't be a bit wary, though, right?"Yes, X'ies." She agreed with his words, giving him a swift glance through the curtain of rain. It lasted but a moment before she was back on track. Hunting. Rations. Gotta find rations. Lyris scanned the undergrowth with utmost precision, not leaving a single blade of grass unseen or a single autumn leaf ignored. She was a living, breathing tracking machine. Though most adults could probably do better than she, she was somewhat advanced for her age.

Snap! She stopped dead cold, paws kicking up mini waves of mud as she skidded and twisted, tail cracking through the air as a whip as she honed in. A small creature, probably a young rabbit, was snuffling around next to a thick pine trunk, searching for any preserved grass or food source it could find. What it was doing out in the torrential rain was a mystery to her. All she knew it that it was food.

Lyris hoped X'ies saw it too and would keep quiet, though he probably would, for he was most likely a more skilled hunter than she. But Lyris wanted this catch. She wanted to show him that she was worth something. Slender belly lowered and joints bent as the alabaster canine lowered her body into the expert hunter's crouch. Right now, downwind didn't matter, for her scent would most likely be masked by the veil of moisture plummeting from the sky.

Then she moved. Closer, closer, with infinite patience. She moved at a snail's pace. Too long and it would notice her, too soon it would flee. Muscles pulled taut and tail stilled, hovering over the ground like a drunken bumblebee. Evergreen eyes watched, never leaving the soft gray fur of the soon-to-be dead mammal.

Now! In a strike as quick and flawless as an adder, in a blurr of off-white fur and flash of green eyes, it was over. The plump young thing swung limply from slender jaws, cottonball tail dripping with liquid. She turned back to X'ies, shoulders hunched and neck lowered. Only the soft drip-drip-drip of water cascading from the dying leaves could be heard.

The layers of interest continued to grow, it would seem that this wolf was either shy…or had a great level of concentration on her tasks. The latter seemed more likely, which only served to perk X’ies curiosity further. There was a spark of movement, and his jaws remained silent…he stopped moving and allowed the new pack member to take the lead on this one. The rabbit would be small, more bone that flesh. But it would still be something to feed another mouth of the pack. As he waited for her attack he began to calculate her position on the chess board that was their pack. If she had such concentration to give to her tasks then she would fit in well. Though the question was just what kind of task did her mind excel at? When she had claimed her victory he stood in the rain watching as she trodded back with her catch. ” You have potential…youth is merely a clay, experience will be what molds you…”. Of course just what those experiences would mold her into..who knew.

The grey wolf would merely nod, finishing his words. There was nothing more that needed to be said really, at least not yet. X’ies didn’t doubt that eventually he would learn more about this young one, but pressing for information wasn’t a good idea..at least not whilst she was still getting used to the idea of being part of the collective…at least if her hesitation before had said anything. The grey wolf raised his head to the sky, the water still cascading down to the ground….his memories travelled back to earlier months when the pack had taken part in a group hunt and had taken down a moose. The hunt had not gone as successfully as it could have…Jaden….the alpha male had made a grave error in not following the game plan out of…spite? He wondered just what kind of prey could actually be caught now in this kind of weather beyond rabbits. The sustainability of the packs rationing depended on having a good source of meat.

His eyes returned to the female ”…How are our ration supplies looking at the moment?...did you see before you took up the hunt?”. The answer of course in the grander sense of things didn’t really matter, the girl was not infected…therefore not able to transform into a form more capable for carrying more than one rabbit. As much as he preferred Lupus, he had to admit that the other forms were useful when it came to certain tasks. No doubt they would see soon enough what the rations looked like. For good or ill.

Her eyes closed in thanks and her head tipped to the left, ears pulled back to half-staff. Now that her full attention was tacked to the male, and she was fully aware he was of higher rank, it was respect for her to show a bit of submission, though not the extreme measures she had when seeking to join Sangi'lak. She was learning the ways of the wolf. Perhaps her bloody experience had happened for a reason, and she was better formed to find answers and survival techniques on her own. Just maybe...

Though it didn't feel that way. Lyris still found it unfair by mother nature to set that bear loose. To destroy her and her only loving family. Now she had to start fresh. All over again, like a new pup fresh out of the den...

Truly, she was confused and afraid. All of these strange wolves. All of these new smells. All of these new feelings. What was she supposed to do? She wished she still had a mother to go to for advice... or a brother to pester when bored. Her brother. Oh, he had been annoying, but she missed him. His playful bark, the laugh in his eyes...

The rabbit was becoming heavier as rain continued to pour. It was only growing worse- they were in for a full-fledged hurricane, and did not yet know the destruction that would come. They must find high ground, and soon. Her meager offering didn't seem like enough to bring back. What could she do? True, she was not fully Luperci. Fully... The young one was completely unaware of the new presence pumping through her veins. Soon, it would be straining, a savage beast desperate to break free...

The meager rabbit fell to the wet earth with a gentle ker-plomp! Lyris placed a dainty paw over it's body and moved her small physique of it's, trying to shelter it from the worst of the rain. This catch was losing its value quickly. Soggy and skinny... "Yes. There had not yet been anything collected." She glanced down at the drenched clump of fur at her toes. "And it still seems there has not been..." The mumble barely passed her lips, and she was unsure wether X'ies would hear her in this downpour. She didn't care anyway, there was no way for her to make another catch in this quickly-developing disaster. She may be able to carry another morsel, but the one she had found was a miracle nevertheless. Almost surely all other sane beings would be hiding away and looking for shelter, as they should be. So far, Lyris was a failure to the pack in her own eyes. Nearly a week of membership and only a soggy rabbit to offer? Disgusting.

ooc: Form;Lupus , sorry about the delay been very busy

Regardless of what he had thought it seemed that this mere rabbit was about as much of the rations as they had at the moment, that was not going to do. No not at all. However the blame could not lay upon that back of this new member no, her hunting was just a single pair of jaws within their family. And if each had bothered to bring a piece to the plate then their rations would have increased nearly tenfold. But no, it seemed that this family had again not yet come to learn the ways of the collective, something that after this storm, he was going to ensure that they did...whether it be liked or no. " Worry not"" If there are problems during the storm we have live stock with which to feed ourselves....I am sure our leaders would rather it not come to such measures...but it cannot be helped..". This much was true, they had sheep...and of course the horses...useless animals for which the dull witted of their species had taken to riding around on in the two legged form.

" My only concern lies with what the other members of the pack have been doing up till now...before...hunting was a mandatory expectation...but X'yrin and Jaden have gone soft...they have allowed expectations to slide...it would seem that now we reap the rewards such a soft paw can bring....".

For a moment X'ies would deliberate precisely what he was going to do net, this weather was not likely to give in and yet he felt that it was necessary with X'yrin's condition that they have more than just that to eat. " Regardless, you do this pack more honor than the others it would seem...Bring the rabbit to the communal dens....store the rationing there...I will stay out a little longer, perhaps these old jaws may catch something else yet..".

OOC :: No problem at all. --- Backdated to September 23

Lyris's paws nearly slid through the mud as a fresh burst of wind flattened her alabaster fur to her slight frame, threatening to whisk her away into the trees beyond. She ducked her head, flattening papery ears and deftly planted her toes in the thick, wet substance, refusing to fall. At last, it passed, but obviously the storm was growing and growling, digging its destructive fingers through the trees. It was only a matter of time before all was lost to the two stranded wolves...

Lyris blinked evergreen eyes and raised her head to find the male once again, standing just as he was before. Moisture-weighted tail flicked against canine heels as the Esteemed spoke, a curious spark settling in dark pupils. Her freezing paws warmed at his small praise, holding it as a delicate pearl though it was only a few, nearly meaningless words. At least it meant she was doing something right, even if it came in the form of a soggy rabbit.

The rain continued to fall, creating a dull thrumming sound similar to that of a bee. The wind was screaming, relentlessly pulling at fur. They were in for something huge.

Through it all, Lyris was calm, dark eyes glittering warmly, flattened white fur shimmering with sparkling raindrops. There would be peace at the end of the storm, and then her worries would really end. One trial after another she was still pulling through, upbeat with it all.

"Alright. Thank you." Though she still cared for her new pack mates, and was unsure weather she should leave the male. But he was bigger and stronger, and she would just be a tick in his fur. He would be able to handle a few more minutes in the downpour.

Slender neck fell and sleek jaws fixed around the meager rabbit. Raising her eyes, she blinked at X'ies, before nodding gratefully. Then, without further a due, Lyris Stryder turned on her heels and ran. With an injured shoulder and slippery grass bed, she was still graceful, elephant-gray pads ever so lightly brushing the earth before pulling up into the next stride, and then the next. A white speck in the gray curtain, her figure grew smaller and smaller, until it vanished entirely the dark abyss.
