Sorry, this post isn't great 300+

He was not entirely sure how the little child had talked him into walking her home, but there he was, in the middle of Halifax with a gray little fur ball that said its name was Frey. When Dahlia was completely out of the picture, Haku was a careless bastard. The lack of pack scent only worsened his response to the individuals he encountered because it lessened the possibilities to get on the bad sides of the other groups that co-existed together with Dahlia. The child had followed him for an hour, filling his sensitive ears with whining. It had happened that he had turned on children, but that was only when they bore the scent of Inferni. He did not know this child’s parents, and so he eventually gave up. The secui had no idea where they were going, so he just followed the child. She seemed to know the way, and this made him really wonder why he was needed. Well, this was a way to waste the day, one of many. The male had wasted days and days lost in thoughts, the scent of Svara slowly lifting from the lands of Dahlia.

The dust coloured child’s body danced in front of him, humming her own little song. She was around the same age as Conor and Emwe, so around two to three months. Adults always found children adorable in this age, when they still had the appearance of a cute, furry toy. The Lilium was oblivious of this fact. He had been wondering if he should hand his children over to someone better suited for the job. They were nothing but an annoyance, and Conor had even attempted to burn down the cabin. Children always angered their parents, but Haku’s anger resulted in physical abuse. He did not want to make the same mistake with these two boys as he had with his firstborn. There would be consequences this time. The brute grimaced slightly as the child flashed a smile at him, making sure he was still following.

Lol, I didn't see any problem with it, especially since you remembered my fondness of Norse myth =P For my part, I'm hoping the length might compensate for my lack of atmosphere, I'm usually better with Brennt, but the chem exam sapped my muse, and I'm trying to build it back up.

Brennt spied the two from some distance off. He wasn't too close to where he played with Maz...he wasn't much on forethought, but he didn't think she would like it very much if she saw him eating puppies, and he liked Maz a lot. She was fun, and the only friend he really had. He had a 'grown up' relationship with Cwmfen, but that was really complicated. She kept fighting him, even though they'd had sex. He didn't understand Cwmfen very well, even though Sankor had tried to explain women to him. Nonetheless, he still could have fun with Maz, in a very carefree way which helped him with stress and reminded him of how it was back home before his brother and sisters got so much smarter than him, where everyone played with everyone else.

He had been snooping around an old, dusty building, and had walked up the spiky channel that all the humans had put in their houses, things they called stairwells in Nowry Village, and had been exploring when he saw the two of them outside a dirty, second-story window. After a few minutes of watching, he found himself shifting subconsciously into his own halfling form, muscle piling on and bones shifting as his spine elongated. Ninety additional pounds of fat, muscle, and bone grew spontaneously throughout his body, and he set off back down the stairs, the predator slowly taking hold as he emerged through the front door and began stalking down the lonely streets, keeping close to the sheer walls of human buildings and low to the uncut grass.

Brennt had shifted completely into the predator by the time he approached the path of the other big wolf and the puppy who led him. His own self-awareness had ceased; he had become a hunter, a survivor, who even now sought only after its own welfare. Its movements became stealthy and quick, following ancient instinct. Some deep-seated insecurity in the underdeveloped social portion of its mind hungered desperately after children, and it had failed to devour any for a long time, now. This time, it would not fail. It would kill the child immediately, so that the parent would have no time to react, and nothing to fight for once it started. If it still attacked anyway, then the predator would defend itself. For several moments, it waited behind an abandoned shed.

The girl, having taken the lead, appeared first. It didn't wait for the larger male to appear behind her. Dashing forward, right before the nose of the little girl's escort, the big wolf's jaws clapped shut over the puppy's neck, and kept running. The little girl named Frey looked behind her at the brown wolf, eyes wide with fear and mouth open to emit a high and fearful yelp. Terrible forces clenched down on her neck, and that fear became agony, which died in her shining eyes as they stared behind at the rapidly shrinking form of her protector. Frey was dead. The predator ran the two of them inside an old human fence, wood with wire meshing, padding through the free-swinging door, its passage marked by the terrible squeal of neglected hinges. It immediately began eating the freshly-murdered little girl. Its bright, lively yellow eyes looked out through the mesh, waiting for the appearance of her guardian.

I'm so so sorry for the wait. 700+

Everything was going well, except for the odd fact that he was ’escorting’ a puppy he did not know to her parents that he was certain he did not know either. It was acceptable to break some rules every now and then and pretend to be nice for a change though. It felt a bit odd, because he doubted he would get anything back for this. No, Haku preferred his actions to reward him in either this or that way, so such a move from him was rather unexpected. With the child dancing happily in front of him, he allowed his mind to slowly drift away, activating auto pilot, simply walking after her. If anything, he could attempt to recruit more to Dahlia, although the borders were officially closed. It was not that Dahlia could no longer support a larger pack, it was just that some individuals felt it could get a bit out of hand. The latest additions had been some bad choices, with Sabeen being mad and what not. Accidents happened, and all in all, Haku would always consider that to be Svara’s fault alone for screwing up her rights to banish the female at the borders.

There was a blur of movement in front of the Lilium, and his eyes instantly focused to be able to register what was going on. Quick and elegant as a feline, a large male came into sight, and moments after Frey’s neck was embraced by the brute’s fangs. Even from the small distance, Haku could see nature of the male’s grip. This was no friend. Then the other beast was off, and the Dahlian wolf was left, dimly blinking in oblivion as the form of the male and the dying puppy vanished out of sight. What. The. Fuck. It took another moment before Haku’s body started to move again, quickly picking up the pace to follow the man and the child that had expected to see her parents again today. It was odd how the world functioned from time to time, but Haku had approached his share of monsters, and knew what could be found out there if one bothered to look and remove the goggles of oblivion.

The scent was fresh and easy to track, and it led the chocolate and cream man towards the fence. By the time the man reached the old human fence, he had let go of most of the speed, and was approaching with caution. He was not really up for something too violent today. There had been too much of that lately. Hidden gashes here and there under his fur was still healing, some slightly fresher than others. It was probably the sound that was noticed first. The sound of bones cracking and the sound of flesh being consumed. The man’s ears perked up in curiosity rather than folding back in a threat. Haku’s main question was; what the fuck is going on. The brute and his hostage came into sight, and made the cocoa male pause. For a few seconds all the blue eyed brute could do was to stare at the man eating the child. After those seconds had passed, he stood watching anyway, feeling puzzlement take hold of his body.

Yellow eyes found him quickly without problems, and the sky blue orbs of the Dahlian stared back. They were still on a comfortable distance, but Haku could not keep himself from taking a few extra steps towards the odd scene. A chocolate neck stretched to edge him even closer, eyes letting go of the other man’s eyes to further investigate what he actually was doing to Frey. He felt his jaw slightly drop, but that was it, basically. The obvious thing to do would have been to attack the man and get him off the girl, no matter how much was left of her. The obvious thing would be to develop some minor mental illness because of the disturbing scene he was witnessing. Haku was not the average wolf though. He felt no loss for the girl. She had not been his and therefore she did not matter at all. No, it was curiosity that filled the Lilium of Dahlia de Mai. He had never witnessed anything like it, and he felt his hackles rise. Not in anger or threat, but it usually came with the rush of adrenaline.

He hesitated for a few more moments before he remembered his dangling jaw. The other beast was almost done devouring its prey, gulping it down like a true predator. This was something unique. It was an unique beast, driven by instinct rather than the idiotic system the wolves around here wanted to adapt to. Sure, eating a puppy seemed a bit off in every way, but there was something there that Haku had missed dearly while living in Dahlia de Mai. The other beast crossed boundaries and broke rules. He did what Haku could not. ”You just ate a puppy.”, the Dahlian man stated firmly, his voice rolling over to the other brute. He did not really know what else to say. There was a cluster of excited emotions filling his chest. This was fucking cool.

My apologies for my part in the wait as well! I had an exam earlier today, and I just didn't want to derail myself and get back into Brennt until it was over. I was actually kind of glad the lull in my threads came when it did << Sorry there isn't more, by the way! When Brennt is in 'predation mode' or whatever you want to call it, he can't talk or understand words, meaning that Haku will either need to interact with him some other way, or follow him until he reverts back. I'll leave it up to you; if you write that Haku follows him out of curiosity for ten minutes or so, I figure he'd go deeper into Halifax, and at that point he'd be back to normal.

The predator stared at the approaching halfling warily, the crunch of bone accompanying its wide, yellow eyes. The creature was stupid in the modern sense, it had no command of language or understanding of higher thought, it could not consider itself objectively, or even know names, as they were not a part of its instinctive drives. Despite this, though, there was a peculiar calmness and confidence about the animal, as if it were aware of its situation very clearly, and was prepared for anything. Truly, it was, for the few tools it had at its disposal were useful in a very broad range of situations. If the male came no closer, it would do nothing. If he came forward, it would growl and snarl until such time as he backed away. If he did not back away, it would attack him until he did. If he still did not, it would attack him until he died. If he did not die, it would run. If he ran faster, it would fight until it died itself.

The creature finished its consumption of the puppy quickly, as any wolf with food it fears might be stolen, it wolfed its meal down, hence the term. Nonetheless, when that was done, it was confronted by an adult, presumably of some relation to the child. His stance might suggest that he was afraid, for he clearly was attached to the child, and the predator had eaten the child, meaning that if he did not attack, it was because he was hesitant to do so. But the primitive wolf did not smell that on him, or detect it from his body language. The creature was not afraid, but curious. Despite its primordial nature, the predator was not a reptile, it understood curiosity, and understood that it probably was not dangerous unless it was smaller than the other wolf. Because it was not, it felt no fear.

It surveyed the area enclosed by the fence, and found that there was no way to easily escape it. The only way out was barred by the brown wolf, which meant the predator would need to pass him to escape. It growled low, approaching slightly, off to one side, leaving plenty of room for Haku to pass it and enter the enclosure if he wanted to. His curiosity could be satisfied, he could have the scant remains of the child if he wanted them, and the enclosure as well. They meant nothing to the monster, it had taken its fill of the body, and had wanted the location only as a safe eating place. Now it wanted to leave.

There was no reply from the shaggy creature with the bloody face. The chocolate Lilium of Dahlia stood silent and merely watched. He knew that he had issues, but this guy seemed to be pretty messed up too. There was no doubt that the other was aware of his presence, but there came no reply. A pair of yellow eyes rested on him, but there was no motion that suggested he had even heard Haku’s truthful comment. The puppy was gone, and the other beast moved. Haku, just like the other brute realized that the only way to get out from the fenced area was to pass him. The darker male moved slightly to the side of the fence, creating space for the secui. The blue eyed demon folded his ears and lowered his neck slightly. It was not a submissive move, rather a thoughtful one. He did not want to see the tawny man disappear so easily, but the wolf seemed driven only by his primal instincts. Maybe it was one of the wolves that followed the old ways, and did not participate in speech.

The cocoa male gave in and moved into the fenced area, exposing his side to the other as he let his gaze travel to the sorry remaining pieces of what once had been a puppy named Frey. She had liked flowers and rabbits. Haku had no problems accepting what had just happened. He could safely say that he had never seen anything similar before, but it was a shame that he would not be able to get a closer look at the weird beast that had done this. Why had he attacked the puppy but not Haku? It was as if it had seen a rabbit, grabbed it and eaten it. The brown and cream male padded over to the bloody mess that was left after the other man had finished his meal. He inhaled the scent of the dead puppy, and it smelled just like game, with just a hint of what kind of creature she had been. Just weird.

Short, but there wasn't much for me to write. If you're busy, we can end it here. Alternatively, you can have Haku follow at a distance and approach Brennt when he's 'thinking straight' again.

The brown wolf passed, and the predator hastily made its way outside of the enclosure, keeping attentive in case it heard the sounds of approach. Contrary to its expectation, the male had not chosen to fight on the puppy's account, or even out of anger. He hadn't even fought over it as a food source. That might mean that he was afraid of it, that its vicious instinct and size intimidated him. The predator wasn't sure, but if it could get out of here without having to fight over its meal, that was all the better. Even the predator--for all its viciousness and simplicity of thought--knew that it wasn't worth fighting over every meal. Battle was draining, and the point of eating was to fill up, not to make yourself need even more food.

The creature quickly set out, towards the outskirts of the city. It had a very vague understanding and respect for the canine who lived deeper in. It did not truly remember that it was friends with her, only that she had territory it wasn't supposed to go into, and that even though it could overpower her, it didn't desire to. Brennt could be friends with Maz, but this monster could never be that. It did not know names, or have accurate memories of things it did at times when it did know names. It was a creature with a very narrow range of capabilities, but what it did, it did quite well.

After a time, Brennt began to re-emerge from himself, and the layers of limited understanding of the world of words and names and complicated societies and ideas came back. It was a gradual process, he never snapped back the same way he sometimes snapped forward. The change was generally one that took several minutes to complete. In this case, with the child's blood still fresh on his tongue, the beast was satiated, and it wasn't difficult going back. He was far away from Maz...he felt like playing. Maybe he should go back? He almost turned around, before something began to worry him. It took four minutes of standing and thinking hard before he figured out what it was: he remembered eating someone, he probably shouldn't let her smell it. He would take a drink and swim in a stream for a while, first.
