Tokyo. (:

It was around two o’clock in the afternoon, and the sun was shining ever so brightly. Alexey had taken the initiative to head up north earlier that morning. She’d never seen Ila Harbor in all of its splendor, and today seemed like a good day to do so. It had taken her quite some time to get there, but her efforts had paid off. The Acer was sitting on a wooden dock, her legs dangling off the edge. She was at a peace of mind: the scenery, the sound of waves crashing on the shore, and nature’s tranquility was… wonderful.

Her thoughts wandered from one person to another; her mate, whom she hadn’t seen in a little while. Conor, the puppy she’d grown so attached to. And even Princess, the pretty teenage girl on a quest to find her mother. Alexey wondered if she’d found Tokyo yet. She sure hoped so.

Tentatively, the Caregiver dipped one of her toes in the water. It was cool and refreshing. Both of her feet followed, and soon after, Lexey’s legs were submerged. A small fish remained close to her feet, curiously nipping at her toes every once in a while. It tickled, and she giggled every time. It was a rainbow trout; the pink stripe on its body told her so. She briefly thought about bringing the kids with her one of these days. A picnic with them seemed like a great idea.

Tokyo hadn't wandered too much into the more human areas of the coast before today, preferring to stick to the southeast, where the spring drained into the ocean. She had spent many years of wandering, but by necessity, not choice. Now that she was actually allowed to stay in one area and in fact encouraged to stay within her packland, she had very little motivation to do otherwise. The stability of being part of a pack was really amazing. She should have tried something like it earlier, although with or without a pack she had had Champ to take care of her.

But for the first time in a couple weeks, she had decided to trek further along the coastline. It was worth exploring all of the packlands, eventually, since it was all territory that basically belonged to her. But she cared mostly about the coast, so it was her highest priority. This place was interesting. Humans built weird things. Like this wooden platform, sticking out into the ocean. What was the point of it? Well, it was sort of a pretty thing, sticking out a bit into the ocean like it did.

There was someone too, there, at the end of it. Sitting with her feet dipping into the ocean, which she supposed was an alright function of this wood thing as well. The stranger hopped off the dock, into the water, and Tokyo wandered in her direction. She was sort of feeling sociable. Coming from a more southern bit of beach, the lighter female waded directly over through the shallows instead of clambering across the dock. No, this wasn't exactly a stranger - she was one of the many who had been at the pack meeting. "Oy, hello there!" It was good for Tokyo's mood for her to be exposed so long to the ocean. It made her almost seem like a decent, friendly wolf.

Her full attention revolved around the rainbow trout occasionally rubbing itself against her legs. It was acting strange, almost playful. Alexey had never seen a fish act that way before, but it was indeed amusing to watch. Seafood had never appealed to her, hence why she did not feel compelled to try and catch it. She’d tried eating fish before and needless to say, she hadn’t been too impressed. Avoiding the scales and bones was a tedious task to begin with. By the time she’d been done tearing it apart, there hadn’t been much left to eat. Fish were better left in the water where they belonged.

One of her paws reached out to stroke the fish’s side, curious as to what it felt like. It was viscous to say the least. Although the feeling was a little bizarre, she didn’t find it disgusting. Perhaps it had to do with its appearance. After all, something as cute as a rainbow trout couldn’t be deemed disgusting. Had it been an eel of some sort, then it would’ve been different. Movement to the right caught her attention, and both of her ears perked up. Her little friend must’ve sensed it too because he darted away, disappearing into shallow waters.

A voice called out a greeting, and Lexey turned to face the female. She recognized her instantly, assuming that this woman was indeed the famous Tokyo Chance. Amber-colored eyes scanned the female’s features for any resemblances to Princess, and she found quite a few. “Hey! Tokyo Chance, right? Have you seen Princess yet?”she asked with a smile. She sure seemed in a good mood, perhaps the dreaded mother-daughter reunion had gone well! Her eyes scanned the territory for any sign of her packmate’s daughter. None so far. Where was the young one?

The stranger knew her name, which startled some of the pleasantries out of Toyko's mind and mouth. How did she know her? Yeah, they were at the pack meeting together, but they hadn't ever spoken. Had someone been speaking about her? Who? Cwmfen, maybe. Maybe Rath. The female's brows furrowed. What would they have been saying about her? Well, probably good things. But how had she arose in conversation at all? The thoughts sped by in a whirlwind, swirling possibilities through her skull. At the rest of her words, though, everything dropped to a standstill. Not just her thoughts, either, but she froze mid-step.

"W-what?" Princess. This stranger knew Princess? It didn't make any sense. Princess was gone, months away, slipped out in the middle of the night in order to save her God-forsake brother. Was there any possibility that Tokyo had misheard her, that her mind had automatically twisted her syntax with wishful thinking? Have you seen Princess yet... No, no. And it couldn't be the generic form of the word - the pack didn't have a "princess" rank, and wolves weren't referred to merely by rank anyway.

"How do you know-- Who are-- What are you talking about?" She was clearly flustered, now.

Feelings of uneasiness swelled within her stomach; the other woman’s reaction was a little off. Had she been mistaken? Perhaps she wasn’t Tokyo Chance after all. There was a moment of doubt, and a frown creased the Acer’s forehead. It had to be her. She looked just like an older version of Princess; two peas in a pod! Maybe her disbelief stemmed from the shock that came with such a revelation. That was a plausible explanation, and it would certainly explain the femme's inability to pronounce a sentence properly. Lexey tried to imagine how she’d react if faced with the same situation; that’s when her pack mate’s strange behavior started making a little more sense.

“Uh, Princess? Your daughter?” she repeated, her perplexed gaze searching for an answer amidst those teal-colored eyes. Perhaps a more in depth explanation would help her snap out of whatever trance she was in. “I met her near the southern borders. She’s looking for you and your son… Buttface.” She couldn’t help it; her curiosity had to be satiated. Her tone of voice was light and pleasant, displaying slight amusement in relation to the name. Naming your child “Buttface” was a cruel thing to do and Alexey would never openly condone such actions, but she couldn’t help finding it a little funny.

Well, that answered the gist of the question she had had such a hard time asking. The Princess that was being discussed here was definitely Tokyo's daughter. Her daughter. Her daughter.. was here. What had Princess told Alexey? Panic rose, bubbled up in her throat. Did she know the biggest shame of Tokyo's life, the only thing she came close to regretting? The.. the murder of her own babies? Had she told anyone else, the rest of the pack? The mother had to find her daughter, and fast. Of course, the primary reason was to be reunited - to talk to her, to figure out why exactly Princess had come back, to reassure herself that her daugher had finally escaped the influence of her terrible, terrible son.

Speaking of which, it appears Princess had went ahead and blabbed on that account. Tokyo shifted, uncomfortable. Her impulsive, immediately gratifying idea of a name had certainly seemed like a good idea at the time - but she certainly could not have predicted that she would be in any situation where she would be like, held accountable for her past actions. God, to have thought she'd be in a pack! Tokyo had counted on her two companions, but both had failed her: first Champ, on the arrival of her pups, and then Princess. She wasn't sure which had hurt worse. But Princess was back! Tokyo was relieved, but wouldn't admit it even to herself, because she would never have admit the possibility that Princess would have truly left her for good.

"I didn't know she was back. I haven't seen her since- haven't seen her for months." Softly. "What did she say, about me?" Words were chosen carefully not to reveal anything, but of course the question itself made it blatant that there was something not already revealed Tokyo did not want as common knowledge. She chose just to disregard the question of her son, planning to interrogate her daughter further on that topic - it was safer and less incriminating. Trying to steer the subject safely way: "What's your name, anyway?"

There was something peculiar about the grey-hued woman’s behavior. Was she usually this jumpy, or did her insecurities stem from the mention of her children? Not only did they look alike, but Princess and Tokyo’s personalities were one of the same. The Caregiver blinked, as if doing so would help her shed light on the puzzle ahead. Her pack mate’s tone of voice was soft and held no vile intentions; Alexey sincerely doubted she was up to no good, but it was a possibility nonetheless. After all, the Lilium had given no indication of any underlying behavioral problems up until recently.

It seemed strange that the first question out of her mouth was about her, and not her daughter’s well-being. Almost as if her reputation was at stake, depending on the information Princess had divulged. “Nothing, just that she was looking for you,” she said, wrinkling her forehead in confusion. It was true; the teenager hadn’t said anything pertaining to Tokyo aside from basic information. Even if she’d had, the Acer probably wouldn’t have mentioned it.

An uncomfortable silence settled between the two women, and the sound of waves crashing onto the wooden dock seemingly became louder. Beige-colored ears twitched lightly, tickled by the salty breeze blowing from the north. “Oh, I’m Alexey. The pack’s pupsitter,” she explained, although her tone of voice seemed distant. Her mind was still attempting to decipher what kind of relationship Tokyo had with her daughter. “How did you two get separated, if you don’t mind me asking?” It was none of her business but Alexey had a habit of sticking her nose where it didn’t belong.

Tokyo had assumed by default that Princess was okay. Because... well, Princess was the daughter of Tokyo Chance, who on Earth would hurt someone like her? The very idea was completely and utterly ridiculous. No, in her time of separation since her daughter ran away, not once had she actually worried about the puppy's safety. Well, at least, not from the typical dangers; her only nightmare lay in the influence of her foul son, the Buttface that Princess had been dumb enough to run off with. She just didn't understand the danger of his pernicious influence! It was good, though, that Princess hadn't said anything. Tokyo was glad her daughter was looking for her, though. Both because she'd love to see her, and that she needed to make sure she understood how dangerous the secrets were that she unwittingly was keeping.

She let the silence draw out, waiting patiently for an answer to her question. And the other did speak more, of course, eventually. Her name was Alexey - the pack's pupsitter. Well, Tokyo certainly hoped that she didn't have any plans to take care of Princess. As soon as she was reunited with her daughter, she wanted the only important influence on her child's life to be herself. No one else was good enough for her beautiful child, she didn't want her to be soiled by all of the less-than-perfect wolves out there in the world.

Actually, Tokyo did mind her asking, but she couldn't exactly just say that, it would sound sorta weird. So instead she shifted uncomfortably. In every other situation Tokyo was an amazing liar. She was quick to think up plausible stories to cover whatever crime she was trying to get away with, and sometimes honest-to-God even believed her stories partway through telling them. But this was just a bit awkward. It was her private business. It was her children! It didn't concern anyone else. The gray and tan female forced a smile on her face and attempted to feed Alexey unspecific platitudes. "Oh, well, as a pupsitter I'm sure you know how kids get sometimes. Her and her brother got the idea into their head that they'd run off - explore the world, be independent and other such nonsense like that. Took her a bit longer to return than I expected, that's all."

Her pack mate’s nervous shift hadn’t gone unnoticed, and her eyes of gold narrowed momentarily as she awaited an adequate answer. It came shortly thereafter, flowing out of the other female’s mouth so effortlessly. It was amazing, how she’d gone from uncertain to confident within a split second. Her explanation was also plausible. A slow nod was provided, as if to confirm that she understood. Although Alexey hadn’t dealt with many rebellious children; she knew they yearned to be independent and free of any restriction. It was quite possible that Princess had felt the need to run away, to explore the world at her brother’s side.

“I understand,” she replied softly, preferring not to be at odds with the blue-eyed woman. Princess was indeed her daughter. The Acer had already taken two little boys away from their mother; she didn’t feel like reliving the experience. Tokyo’s daughter wasn’t a child anymore; she was old enough to hold her own if necessary. Princess didn’t seem like the type of person to let others take advantage of her, hence why Alexey chose not to get involved. As for Buttface, although his existence intrigued her to no end, he was no member of Dahlia de Mai. And thus, she wasn’t responsible for his well-being.

“Do you like it here?” she asked suddenly, judging it safer to steer away from their current topic of conversation. A solitary chill travelled up her spine; it felt as though water temperature had dropped a few degrees within the last few minutes. Slowly, the Caregiver made her way to the shore where she had every intention of sunbathing for a little while.

we can end this soon maybe, unless alexey would pester her more about buttface? after the news about princess, tokyo probably wouldn't stick around too long for small talk. xD; 245 words

Alexey accepted her story. That was all that really mattered, and so Tokyo ignored the hesitation in her tone and reserve in her eyes. Disbelief or not, the mother had given a completely reasonable explanation and Alexey didn't seem to have any real ground on which to question her story, else she probably would have done so by now. Instead of turning to small talk. How tedious to just sit here, when Princess was out and about. Probably searching for her mother, hopefully not spilling any of the secrets Tokyo would have to warn her severely not to share. Fuck, it would suck if word got out that she had killed those god-damned three puppies, the little squirming creatures, the permanent stains on her otherwise rather clean conscience (it took a lot to make her guilty).

"Oh yes, Dahlia de Mai seems like a very lovely place to live so far." She remarked with every indication of pleasantness, padding alongside Alexey as she headed back towards the shore. "I'm probably going to have to get going soon, though. I should find my daughter, give her a proper welcome to the lands, show her where I'm staying and such." A smile. The water was still of a perfectly acceptable temperature to Tokyo, and felt nice and her feet swished through, tendrils of her particularly long and silky fur following the gentle tug of the tide as curling waves rose and bubbled to a quite murmur around them.

We can end this now. D: Short ... wordpad ate the post I had typed up. Sad

Alexey’s worries, admittedly unfounded, were rapidly discarded when her pack mate’s voice adopted a more pleasant tone. Tokyo’s smile was promptly returned, paired with an attempt to wag her tail. But alas, doing so while partly submerged in a body of water was impossible. It was only when they got to the shore that she succeeded in showing proper contentment. The Acer was pleased to hear the blue-eyed female’s opinion when it came to Dahlia de Mai. While she hadn’t contributed in its creation, she’d taken up residence with Cercelee and company approximately two months following the pack’s founding. Alexey took great pride in her home.

Her lips parted into a knowing smile as she turned to face the mother of two. Wanting to find Princess was understandable. Lexey could barely handle a day without seeing the two boys under her care. It’d be highly questionable for Tokyo not to go looking for her beloved daughter. “You should get going then,” she suggested, clasping her hands together in anticipation. Perhaps when both of them got settled in, they could all spend an afternoon together.
