sound the alarm; kansas!

As soon as the roar of the falling snow filled the air, all of Storm was on edge. Even though the white screen had finally settled in the northeastern range of Storm’s land, tension still loomed thick in the air. A head count was performed – all, save one, were present.

Within minutes the teams had been rounded up – two teams of four. The land that had been annihilated covered a large expanse. Even with the two teams, it would be hard work. Time was precious, and they needed to set out right away. With his other teammates, Selene, Kansas, and Kyuubi, standing near him, Pilot gave a nod and the group set off towards the northern region.

"I think we should fan out, so that we can cover more ground faster. Though, we need to make sure that we can see each other at all times. We don’t want this rescue mission to be complicated by more lives trapped." As they trudged on, Pilot’s gaze traveled to the mountain silhouette looming in the distance. Was this all it had to offer, or was there more ominous snow ready to obliterate the teaming wolves? "Maybe we should try to keep our voices low as well, in case we happen to cause more snow to slide. However, if you feel you may see something, alert the rest of us. It will be faster if we all team up to dig together. Sound good, team?" He offered a smile, trying to keep the group’s morale high, even though they all knew the life of Phoenix’s daughter was at stake.

Selene had luckily been away from her den when all came crashing down. The search for her dad seemed to have saved her life in the least. But she had lost her den in the aftermath. It wasn't too worrisome though. She would just have to find a new one. She had thought of doing that right off. At least until tale of a lost pup had made itself known. She had gathered together with the other members of the pack. Had been split off into teams. And now they were off.

Pale eyes glanced around the snow lit landscape through half lids. The bright and bubbly pup spoke not a word for once. Rather her concentration was on seeking out some speck in the snow. After all there had been warning in which to keep voices low. For this mission she was actually rather calm. But then extreme concentration usually brought on a placid countenance to cover her. Selene kept herself in the middle, with a wolf to her left and a wolf to her right. Not too close but something a turn of the head could spot. Head dropped earthwards so that she could sniff at the snow. Perhaps some trail would produce itself?

Kyuubi came up closer to listen. "I have seen other creatures do this. Keep your tails high in order for you to be seen, and yes voices low. Avalanches can be started again with more voices. But looking at the snow..." she eyed it carefully. "It has lost all of the avalanche juice. But we can never be too careful, nor can we predict outcomes. And we need to be careful on the snow pack now. It can suck us up, and we won't be able to get out. So we will need to tread lightly." she noted to the leader. She had some experience with avalanches.

Turning away, she saw the pup and quickly ran up to her."Selene! Good to see that you were not included with the lost pup!" she said as she sniffed the ground too. The sense of smell of a dog was many times better than that of the lowly human. "A tip. Listen for muffled sounds as well as trying to find the scent. It helps with the search. Does anyone know where she was last before the avalanche?" she said in hopes to find out an answer. If they could find out where she last was, then it would be easier to find her.

Thinking she heard something, she bounded forward and sniffed the ground. She had picked up a little bit of the scent of the pup, but nothing more. No sounds, no strong scents, nothing. She scratched at the snow to see if she could get a better pick up. Nothing. She looked around with her tail as high as it would go so they would keep sight of her. Her optics stared at the bright snow as she searched. It seemed to go on forever, and they only had so long to search for her until she had died of carbon dioxide poisoning. She could breath, but the carbon dioxide would have no where to go. And if she was in deep snow, she would die within fifteen minuets or less. She could not tell them that though, it would make the search a disaster if she mentioned it.
