The box said, "It's no good."

The rain had managed to break—at least temporarily. Ezekiel had not yet returned to his own den, and spent most nights holed up as far north as possible. Despite everything his grandmother had said, he still felt like a failure. Talitha was gone. She had run off after a ghost who had abandoned them not once but twice, and it hurt. It hurt more then anything he had ever imagined; even beyond the physical pain the broken ribs had given him. That was why he was training so vehemently. Physical pain could mask the emotional distress.
In his Optime form, the boy was a few yards from the crashing falls in the ravine. He had spent most of the morning doing what weight training he could manage, but his resources were limited. That was when he had turned to endurance, and begun swimming. The current of the water was stronger then usual, and presented quite a challenge. Twice now, he had needed to scramble to the bank and rest. Currently, the boy was doing just that—laying on his back and staring up at the gray sky, fur damp but not entirely soaked. Vaguely, he was aware of the beginnings of hunger pangs, but not enough to cause him to abandon his training. Rolling back his shoulders, the Hydra yawned and shut his eyes.

Halo had started to leave the clothes behind. Although she had enjoyed wearing them, Kaena did not seem to wear any clothes in her optime. Therefore, neither would her grandchild. It was a foolish reason, but Halo’s obsession with Kaena was not entirely natural. However, the girl had not ceased to wear her beloved ornaments. The girl was tracing her own path from the day before, hoping to find one of her favourite things. It was a rodent skull which she carefully had worked with in order to put it into her hair and keep some of the dark locks out of her face. She loved it, but had apparently lost it at one point yesterday. She had been lazy and not realized it was missing before this morning. Ruby eyes mercilessly scanned the path in front of her, looking for that little bleached skull.

The days here were boring and calm and the pursuit of finding that insignificant thing of hers would probably prove to be the most exciting peak of the day. What a waste. When she came as far as to the crashing falls in the ravine, her eyes found one of the few members that the girl had not yet met. Halo hesitated for only a moment before she decided to approach. He seemed wet, and was lying there like a peaceful piece of meat or something. She wondered if he had fallen into the water and barely escaped from drowning. Her guess was far from the truth. ”You look like something the crows would have enjoyed, had there been any about.” Perhaps not truly, but that was what had been Halo’s first thought when she saw his outstretched body.

With the scent of water in his nose, and the roar of the falls in his ears, Ezekiel had not been aware of the girls approach under her shadow was over him. Both eyes opened, bright amber-gold, and found themselves met with a red-eyed girl with dark fur. This was unusual, but not unheard of. His own sister’s coat was much darker then his own, after all. Lifting his brows, the blonde snorted air out of his nose. “I doubt it,” he said, and shut his eyes again.
“Just taking a break,” he added, and stretched out his lanky body. The dull ache that would come in time had not yet reared his head. Tomorrow he would likely feel something, but for now he was happy with the subtle burn that built up his muscles. While he would never be as large or as heavy as his father, Ezekiel was trying very hard to fill out as quickly as he could.

She wanted to come with a witty and typical remark to his words in form of a compliment, but decided against it. Well, it was settled that he was not dead alright. A break from what? Was he actually swimming? Plain wonder affected her facial expression as she wondered why this was. Halo had not truly had the mind set of a warrior. More than anything she was just slowly drifting around doing nothing. Her new rank was the same as apprentice warrior, was it not? Halo had never even been in a proper fight before. If the hybrid was to take her clan rank seriously, she would have a lot of work to do. Training to be done, knowledge to be gathered. Nah, Halo was more of a quiet assassin or simply a one on one terminator if it would come to that. An ideal setting for her would be a victim that could be played with. The oddly named girl had her rodents and tons of additional ideas of how to play and execute a being. It was a fucking shame that the Addison girl had survived her little pets.

The girl rather liked the amber-gold hue of the young male’s eyes, but he had shut his eyes. He should have been looking at her with adoration by now. Halo gave a short and low snort, wondering why so few of the males she had met here gave shit about her delicate appearance. There had been that dog.. The girl’s dark ears flattened just at the thought. Ew. ”Are you practising swimming? Why?” the girl finally asked, genuinely curious of the exact reason why. Was it fun perhaps?

“It builds up endurance,” he explained, curling his toes and extending them fully. Even that small motion was felt through his entire body. That, at least, meant things were paying off. He had a long way to go in order to reach his goal, but small steps were helping. After a month without training, he had gotten sloppy.
Though he was comfortable on his back, the golden coyote was certain that this girl would not be leaving any time soon. So he rolled onto his belly, and propped his chin up on his palm. His eyes trailed from her face to the crimson mark on her chest—which he recognized immediately. Gabriel had the same symbol on his shoulder, just as Kaena did on her chest. Quickly, his eyes turned back up to her face, looking for further signs of family resemblance. “You’re a Lykoi,” he half-stated, half-asked. “So am I. Well, technically—I’ve got my dad’s surname.”

Endurance, alright. Halo had never thought of such things. Truth was that she too should have started proper training in order to fit her current and also future rank as warrior of Inferni. She thought about it, and wondered exactly how useless she would be in a fight. She did not know, she had never truly been in one. ”You train a lot?” the girl asked, slowly taking in more of his body, this time in another light. The boy rolled over and Halo smiled, content with that he seemed to be at least a bit interested in her. Enough to talk to her at least. She pushed her chest slightly forward and kept her back straight, wanted him to adore her.

The boy’s next words ruined a lot for her, because it turned out that he saw the family resemblance before she did. Her form sunk slightly though almost unnoticeably. Well then, there was no point in posing and showing off her curves anymore, because he would never be interested now. It was a shame though, because he was quite handsome and definitely the right age for her. The girl bluntly sat down, obviously giving shit about elegance and stance now when there was no reason for it. Her ruby eyes looked him over as she thought about who his father could be. There were Inferni members that she had not yet met, but she made a guess nevertheless. ”de le Poer? Your dad is Gabriel or something then, right?” It was still great that he seemed to want to talk to her. Halo was kind of scared of Gabriel, because she had expected a warm uncle, but had been met with the disgusting truth of her father and nothing more.
