This thread is not required, but I highly suggest everyone join. Treat this as you would a hunt, but keep in mind that the prey is a wolf--and I will be playing him as an NPC. The first two posts are mine; Ezekiel is the coyote that is outside of the borders. A post-order will be established in order of replies, and as of right now I have not decided how the kill will be made. More then likely, Inferni will end up coming together and killing our wolf as a group. Yaaaaaaaay bonding. If anyone has any questions PM me. :]

The break in the weather had been short lived. Gabriel sat on one of the boulders in Inferni, a cold wind whipping through his thick fur. Above his head dark gray storm clouds twisted and danced violently. While he could hear thunder it had not yet grown close enough to concern him. Electricity hung in the air, and this excited the Aquila—though he had once feared thunderstorms, he had lost this fear not long after he had left Inferni the second time. Then there had only been God, and God had protected him. For this reason, he had forgotten the taste of fear.
A crackle of lightning made his ears swivel atop his head, and he turned his eyes up to the sky. It was just in time to see another batch of lightning rush across the clouds, but there was no rain yet and so he did not feel the need to return to his den. As he lowered his head, something that should not have been there caught his eyes. White. Gray. Something moving near the borders. Instantly he was on his feet, nose twitching, tail high. There was a wolf. The wolf was moving with purpose towards one of the pikes. As he watched, the stranger rose up and threw his weight into the stick, sending it crashing to the ground. That was all Gabriel needed to see.
With that, the Aquila threw his head back and let out a loud, wolfish howl. There was an intruder in Inferni. He needed to be caught. Then his head would replace the skull he had just shattered.

It was impressive, he reasoned, that he had been at this for so long. The infamous Inferni had done a shit job of finding him, even though he kept pressing further and further into their borders. What fun it had been, breaking the horrible skulls they kept on display. Coyotes truly were savages; stupid, brutal savages. Maybe once he did enough he could go to one of the packs and brag about such a thing; he had scoped out the two closest, and admired the pretty ladies from a distance. Who wouldn’t be impressed with his prowess? Taking on Inferni alone and coming out ahead?
The gray-white wolf had come back again, confident that the rain was on its way and would do well to hide his scent. There was no hurry in his walk, no urgency in his pacing. Boldness had taken hold, and he did not fear he would be caught. Stupid savages probably were hiding from the big-sky noise, haha. Yawning widely and taking the time to admire the horrible empty field that Inferni claimed as their territory, the wolf laughed through his nose and shook his head. Well, time to work. Pushing himself up, the man brought both forelegs down onto the pike, pushing his entire weight against it, sending it crashing to the ground. The wolf skull hit and rolled off, snapping in the weakest part as it did so.
That was when a howl cut over the thunder. The wolf froze, eyes going wide. Shit, shit shit shit. Someone had seen him. Even as his body tensed to turn and run a second howl broke out from behind him, this one much closer, much more like a coyote. Oh hell. Without a second thought he broke forward and into the territory. Maybe he would be able to make it west and then run like hell towards that wolf pack in the south. He wouldn’t be the proud hero, but living was better then nothing. So the wolf began to run west, away from the forest at his back.

@$%&He'd equilibrated with the rain and welcomed it back. It was a wonder they couldn't all sprout fins and gills as quickly as his eyes became accustomed to the low, filtered light and his body to the reprieve from the typical summer heat. Still, though, even as he'd cursed the blinding sun, he'd found opportunity in its reappearance. Their wolf "friend" did not linger near the northern extent of their territory as much, but closer to the south--closer to Dahlia and Phoenix Valley. Consequentially, the Caelum had refocused his efforts. He still passed by Drifter Bay at least once a night, but found himself further south more frequently.

@$%&Unfortunately, without the cover of rain to wash away his scent, Bastardo's visits had decreased in regularity. The fiery-eyed hybrid knew better than to think their tormentor was gone for good; nay, he was just waiting for the right moment. Lightening flashed and carved fleeting, jagged scars across the foreboding clouds, and Anselm found himself moving instinctually toward the borders. Two black-tipped ears flicked forward as his cousin's cry cut above the crackle and booms of the sky. He knew what it meant immediately: Judge, Jury, and Executioner, Gabriel had promised the brazen wolf's death all at once. Confidence had made the wolf sloppy, and one slip-up was all the clan needed to stomp him into the dirt for good.

@$%&A war-cry erupted from the tattooed male's throat as he advanced swiftly; he found himself roughly equidistant from Gabriel and the cry of another that had arisen beyond the borders. They formed a perfect triangle, one that the intruder would be hard-pressed to slip through. The seccui moved with the practised grace that came from knowing a territory inside and out; he didn't stick to the beaten trails, but rather he diverged into the forest, dodging under some fallen boughs and leaping over others. Anselm quickly ascended a small pile of boulders, testing the air and surveying his surroundings.

Mason will stay largely out of the way. Think of him as moral support. Maybe he'll nip preybot's heels, lol.

The boy was not one to sit forlornly under cover when rain pelted the ground. Although rain was not his favorite type of weather, he did not mind going outside was long as it wasn't pouring buckets. Mason had spent a lot of his time in the harsh elements, and a little rain had never hurt him. The boy had become comfortable enough with the idea of Inferni being his home, and now he threw himself into learning every inch of the clan's territory. Mason was not timid by nature, and it did not take him long to acclimate to the idea that he would grow to maturity in these lands, and that he was no longer some vagabond on the road.

Mason had taken a special interest in exploring the borders, something that was both instinct and learned for him. Kaena, who had taken him under her wing, often patrolled the borders and Mason desperately wanted to follow the woman's example. He was determined to prove himself useful and to grow in strength. Mason had such a strong sense of Inferni as home now, that even at the slightest whiff of foreign scent he would grind on his back teeth and try to track the scent.

A sound split the air, echoing like a death knell. Mason straightened, his ears twitching as he processed the fact that the leader of Inferni, Gabriel, had sent out a deadly call. His heart thundered in his chest, and the boy scrambled toward the source of the noise. Several moments later the Tirones minor found himself several feet away from a deadly formation of Inferni members and an intruder. A growl rumbled in the boy's chest, his muzzle contorting as his lips pulled back to reveal small, sharp white teeth. Yellow eyes flashed as he circled around the perimeter, his eyes tracing between Gabriel and the others, watching and wondering if he could be of any use. This much he knew, he wanted this intruder gone, one way or another.

-TACKLES THE PREYBOT- OMGOMGOMG. XD <3 And this will probably be short and poo because I am totally going to a baseball game and I am super-excited and I have to get ready (but here I am posting instead).

After Kaena had found those destroyed bones on the border, she had been on hyper-alert, giving the neutral territory ringing Inferni's lands extra attention, far moreso than usual. She was determined to find this wolf and bring him to justice; there was a taste for vengeance on the coyote woman's tongue. Acts such as the one this strange wolf had committed would not go unpunished, if the past was any indication of how Inferni would act now, this wolf was in for quite a rumble, when they eventually caught up with him. Though it was not terribly late in the day, it was already dark out. Storm clouds blotted out the sun, and the hybrid woman prepared herself for more rain. A jagged bolt of lightning split the sky above Kaena, and thunder rumbled behind it, a deep growl echoing from the heavens.

The coyote woman was not far from Gabriel when the call went up, but she was deeper in the territory, away from the borders. The going was still rather rough, though the brief respite in the rainy weather had allowed their territory to dry out somewhat. At least the Waste wasn't a swampy mess anymore—there were still muddy hollows, certainly, but perhaps it was their proximity to the coast which allowed their territory to drain quickly, even after being waterlogged for weeks. Landlocked packs did not have that luxury, and again Kaena was glad that Inferni had settled on the patch of land Gabriel had chosen—similar to Hell's Coast, with the mountain to their back and the bay at their noses, protected by the barriers nature had provided them.

The hybrid woman's head jerked upright as she detected that sound, the long, low rumble of her son. Those sable ears flew upright, her golden eye blazing with rage, excitement, and bloodlust at all at once. The call made her want to toss up her head and reply with one of her own—but there was no need to reply and spoil her position. She had heard Ezekiel's call, higher-pitched and more of a coyote's yowl, somewhere in the distance from Gabriel. Maybe they had him trapped at the borders, and they were closing in on him already. This was the only thought the silvery woman needed to jump to her feet, moving swiftly in her Optime form toward the origin of the call. This hid the limp she still held from Haku; in her two-legged form the wound was not so grievous as to greatly restrict the motion on her injured limb. She moved quickly and at a half-crouch, doing her best to remain half-hidden even in her bulky two-legged form.

The youngest Lykoi member was simply on her way home. She had walked the whole way from Halifax, carrying yet another cage. This had become an exciting project, this thing with her rodents. When she had executed two thirds of the distance home, the girl had shifted down to her lupus form in seek of change. It was slightly uncomfortable to carry the cage in her jaws, but it was a light version made out of plastic, and she currently had a good grip on one of the edges. There had been an odd pain inside her left foot after a while after she had walked, but when her and the cage’s weight was shared by two extra limbs, the odd pain had disappeared. She would probably never realize what it was. Closing in on the border, the girl’s ears perked instantly to investigate the Aquila’s howl that rose in the distance. Almost immediately and much closer, the sound of Ezekiel’s own cry rose up. The cage scrambled into the ground and the girl shook her head and drew a sharp inhale, standing still for a few moments to gather her thoughts. Intruder!

The young girl started to trot, then broke into a full run, leaving the empty cage behind, already forgotten about. She set her course towards where Gabriel’s cry had come from, but set her route almost directly north, unable to determine exactly where the intruder was located without further annunciations to go on. She would not risk pairing up with any of the others instantly, not before she was certain that this fucktard had been surrounded. The girl recognized the landfill in the distance, but the lands no longer mattered. Suddenly the scent of the ruthless wolf was registered, and she shot after him as fast as her body allowed, closing in on the doomed creature from southwest. Ezekiel’s endurance training suddenly seemed so obvious.

*wiggles in* haii!

Jezebel had noticed very little of the strange occurrences at their borders, figuring most of the broken skulls were pure accidental and that the unknown wolf's scent would be carefully watched by Gabriel and the many others who kept a watchful eye on everyone's well being. Therefor unbeknownst to her on this particularly cloudy and ominous afternoon, the reason for all the trouble caused at their borders lurked about the skull clad barrier and knocked down yet another pike, sending it's decoration broken and askew.
At that moment Jezebel was just to the West of the borders where the wolf currently vandalized their territory. She was quickly collecting some herbs to dry before the dark onslaught of clouds let loose their burdens and muddied and dampened Inferni once more. The short, dry period had been great while it lasted but of course nothing great can ever last. So as lightning threaded the sky and Jezebel collected a certain deadly herb within her palm, thunder boomed followed by such a sudden and unexpected howl from Gabriel that she dropped her herbs amongst the grass. Another howl, followed by another and Jezebel had scooped up the herbs she had dropped and stood quite suddenly, ears perked towards the direction of the borders just to the East of her. She stood just on the edge of the trees that shielded the borders from some of the territory, catching the small rustling of leaves and quick foot falls as others slowly surrounded the intruder. She could scent Kaena quite readily and could tell that others were preparing to surround their “prey”.
Placing the herbs near the base of a tree that she would be able to identify easily Jezebel crouched in her Optime form, preparing to take on a change that she had not made since the Scintilla War. Her Secui form came slow and labored for her, leaving her a little sore and disoriented at its end, but its outcome was worth the trouble. She seemed quite bestial in this form, her spine raised and limbs muscled, ashen fur taking on a darker, more menacing hue and her red eyes leaving quite a bit of humanity behind. It was all just senses and bestial urges now, beneath it all an understanding that she must protect her home no matter what cost and the knowledge that killing this intruder would not bother her in the least. No point in loosing sleep over it, right?
So the now dangerous and brazen Jezebel stalked along the forests edge, listening with a sharpened sense to her clan mates as they all slowly surrounded the wolf, the wolf that was speedily and noisily making its way in her general direction. With a low, sweet yowl she announced her position, hoping to make him panic enough to lose his bearings altogether and to allow the others to surround him more easily, but at the same time hoping he would run right toward her so she could get her fair piece of him. Come here little wolf, she thought sweetly and sadistically, a side of her that had not been seen in quite some time.

Yay! I would like to try and get two more replies out of everyone, having the kill made in the second one--also, I'll be picking the one who kills our NPC by random lottery (Manson excluded XD) but everyone will get a chance to kick their kicks in. ;]

All round came the responses; Ezekiel first, to the south-east, then his cousin, and after a few moments, Jezebel. This did not mean he did not doubt the others had responded. Certainly his mother would take great joy in hunting down a wolf. He jumped from the flat surface of the stone and landed on bare earth. It was damp, and the ever growing threat of further rain was looming above them. Though it was mid-afternoon, the amount of clouds had turned the sky ever darker. It was a perfect setting, really, to bring the end of days down upon that wolf.
Without pause, Gabriel took off running. He was not able to do this as long as he would have liked, and he knew that. The old wound from Skoll had damaged his shoulder enough that any long distance running would cause terrible pain. This only meant he needed to work through it. Today that bastard would die, even if it would cost him mobility for a day. With the scent of the gray wolf in his nose, the Aquila ran, trailing the disjointed trail that would lead him to his prey.

No no no nononononono became a warped chant in his head. This was wrong. They shouldn’t have seen him, they shouldn’t have all been there. Coyotes were stupid! Coyotes weren’t supposed to be organized! Another howl, one incredibly wolf-like, rose to his right. They had him surrounded. Didn’t matter, he would find a way. He had to get out of there, and get out of there now. As he ran the scents began to pour in with the harsh wind; five? Six? How many were there!?
Then, suddenly, another yowl went up directly in front of him. The wolf balked and nearly jumped out of his skin. Unable to turn on a dime he came to a near complete stop before doing so, and took off north. God damn those coyotes! He’d find a way out, he had to! Desperation was all that fueled him now, even though he was rushing closer into the heart of the territory with the near entirety of the Inferni clan on his heels.

» eee. -tosses something up quick before she has to go to the store!-

More of them were gathering. A blood-thirsty yowl, no weaker for its femininity, rose up nearby. Although Anselm failed to recognise the coyote who'd called, he understood her message: she was very near their target. He jumped from his perch upon the boulders, crouching as he absorbed the recoil of landing and using this pent up energy to spring him forward all at once. Now that he had a good idea where the fool was, he could stick to the beaten paths and move faster than ever. He selected one of the paths that cut off to his right, driving him now northeast toward Jezebel's call.

Anselm moved at what could only be described as a full charge--the bulkiness of his half-shifted form prevented him from moving with more grace at such speeds. The hybrid regularly sprinted around the borders; every morning without fail, and usually once more in the evening. Lately his patrols had increased because of this bastard, and though his mouth was open, tongue lolled to one side as he gulped down the air, he felt no stress or strain for his actions. This was where he shone--and this was where Inferni was at its best. He remembered them coming together to stomp out Andre... undoubtedly, this would be no different. The idiot didn't stand a chance.
All of a sudden Anselm caught the fresh trail of the wolf, and now he moved with more determination than ever. Up ahead in the distance he could see their prey, tail tucked between his legs and ears back as the grey wolf tore through the mud and fled for his life. A twisted grin found its way upon his face, and he let out another powerful call as he pressed forward to alert the others of their whereabouts. He could scent some of his packmates nearby. They were on the cusp of victory.

Awww, no bloodshed for baby puppy XD

Mason's head was spinning and his heart was pounding madly like the ticking of a time bomb. Excitement coursed through his veins in a hot rush. He had caught a glimpse of the trespasser, who was an adult wolf who was quite a bit bigger than the pup. But he did not feel dread or fear. A chorus of howls had alerted him to the fact that many of the clan were around and there was a call for bloodshed. He had noted the addition of voices he was not familiar with, but their scents spoke for them. The scent of the clan was thick in the air. They had the intruder surrounded, and there was no doubt in the boy's mind that things would end in their favor.

Not one to be left out, the boy threw his own head back and added his voice to the calls for the wolf's death. His howl was high-pitched and seemed comical, a young yap compared to the vicious sounds from the others in the clan. This did not dawn on him, and he simply threw his body forward, scrambling after the others of Inferi. He fell behind quickly, not for lack of trying. But legs as short as these could only get him so far, compared to the adults.

mall-caps;">In Character

There was that smell again, that wolfy scent permeating through the air. Even through the rain, the coyote hybrid could smell that thick, earthy smell of wolf—her glittering golden eye seemed to dance with flames as she moved. Her fingers flexed and curled, their long, jagged claws already extended, prepared to rip and render flesh. Her tongue lolled out of her mouth and her breath came in quicker pants, though she was hardly drained of energy. It was simple excitement showing on the hybrid woman's features which made her breath come quicker. All around her, she could smell the others, and as they converged she could see flashes of fur, distant and in her peripheral vision. They were getting close now, the sticky smell of his fear clearer than anything to the hybrid woman. It was like blood to a shark; through all the other myriad of scents coating the air the coyote's nose read that one above all else, and it drove her harder.

Now she could not keep her voice quiet; as she ran growls echoed from her throat, low and rumbling. Before her she could see him, flashes of gray and white as he desperately headed forward, deeper into their familiar territory. This was a mistake; if he had any chance of survival he would have to make it to the borders, and with fully half of Inferni's coyotes bearing down on his tail, that was nigh impossible. The coyote woman was running now, her long Optime legs providing her with a lengthy but ungainly stride, and though she knew she could not keep the pace for long, the silver canine was running at full tilt, a snarl planted on her scarred muzzle. There was no escaping this—the coyotes were all around him, everywhere. Even Mason's small, childish call echoed up from somewhere behind her, even the youngest of their clan ready to throw his weight in if it was needed.

This is crappy, but she is only running anyway alalal

Closer now. The trail of the intruder’s scent seemed to dance ahead of her, urging her forward like the tease it was. Excitement was keeping her heart rate up and running so pleasantly as she moved swiftly through the scenery. There were glimpses of others now, though the only sound filling her ears was her own rumbling throat. She felt the thirst for the trespasser’s blood just like the rest. The coyotes were always underestimated, and once again there was a fool that had tried to fuck about with them. The girl, who was closer to a wolf than any other type of canine, was so ready to extinguish this life that tried to flee from its bully-victims. Like all bullies, the trail of fear from the lone wolf spoke of cowardice and fear of confrontation. Ruby eyes locked up on movement ahead. She could see the silvery wolf now, slowly catching up on him with her long limbs.

Start attacking our wolf buddy! The kill will be made by Halo!

It was instinctual, to hunt like this. From the earliest dawn of the time of their ancestors they had been hunting like this. They still hunted; and they would do so now with this fool. A howl directed him towards his cousin, and there Gabriel ran—he caught the scent and found them. The wolf was charging further into the territory, with Anselm and Kaena at his heels, and Halo advancing from not far off.

Gabriel took a gamble, and pushed forward with a final burst of speed. This was rewarded; the Aquila found his prey. The wolf balked, and Gabriel snapped wildly. His teeth missed catching flesh, but his shoulder collided with the wolf’s own. With a snarl Gabriel went tumbling into the tall grass, feeling the sudden ache of hot pain in an abused muscle.

He could feel their stinking breath on his heels. Still, he kept running. All parts of his body had tightened in on themselves, and there was incredible terror pulsing through his body. For all of this, it was not enough—the noise and confusion blinded him. Suddenly, a massive wolf—no, dog—broke the grass in front of him. Both legs hit the ground hard, sending pain rocketing up his bones, but he avoided the teeth narrowly. The brute’s shoulder hit his own and the wolf let out a loud yelp, staggered, and fell.

@$%&Two bodies connected in front of him and went tumbling in separate directions. The grey wolf was stunned, but he knew even a moment's hesitation could be his downfall. He refused to accept it was too late. As he completed the roll he rose to his feet again in a panic, but the Aquila had already bought Anselm the time that he needed. Gabriel had made the first hit, but he was determined to taste blood. He leapt towards his quarry with claws fully extended and latched on to the male's sides, causing him to falter in his steps again. He turned and snapped wildly at Anselm's paws, but the secui's reach was far greater and the tattooed wolf was deliberately letting him slip forward and away, tearing long, parallel slashes down his sides as he tried, in vain, to flee.

@$%&"Like breaking bones, punk?" he half-hissed, half-growled. Normally he wouldn't bother to waste his breath in these situations, but he had nearly the entire clan behind him. Somebody else could take care of the dirty work--he just wanted to get his point across. With that, he released his grip and he reached forward with his muzzle as the wolf tried to stumble away. His jaws found their target and he clamped down--hard--on his left hind leg. The crack of crushed bone was drowned out by the pained yowl from their victim, but Anselm was yet to be satisfied. His jaws locked down and he braced all his weight backward, claws now digging into the moist soil as he trashed his head wildly, aiming to dislocate the bastard's leg completely.

@$%&If the wolf tried to whirl to his right to bite him, Anselm simply moved to the left, and vice versa. As he shook he separated his jaws just a millimetre, allowing some of the leg to slip between his teeth so that he could latch on and crush a different segment of bone. A series of high-pitched yelps, abrasive and pained, played as fine music in his ears. In his manic thrashing he finally managed to lose his grip, and the wolf rose and began to hobble away on three legs as his fourth was now completely useless. Let him have his hope--Anselm knew that it was over before it had even started. The scent of blood would send them all into a frenzy. At this point, it was just a game of cat and mouse.

Oh no. Save the baby ;_;. & go team XDThe trespasser had been felled. In his excitement, Mason had failed to see who had been skillful enough to knock him over. With his shorter legs and stature, he was still largely trailing behind the rest of the clan. Now, with the trespasser on the ground, Mason redoubled his efforts. His pauses scrambled across the ground as he kicked up dust and rocks, dashing with eagerness and strangely predatory light in his young yellow eyes.

Mason recognized Gabriel, the leader of Inferni, as he finally closed in on the tight circle of bloodthirsty coyotes. Another stranger who smelled strongly of the clan had closed in on the fallen wolf and he sank his claws into the intruder. Mason took all this in with wide eyes, his breath coming in loud exhalations. His heart thundered. And the tirones minor took in this first very visual lesson of how offenses and abuses to the clan were dealt with.

Now the intruder was thrashing around, held in the secui male's jaws. Mason felt a primordial thrill whirl threw him. The wolf managed to break free of those deadly jaws and began to hobble away feebly. This triggered an instinct in the boy, and he lunged forward like a shot. His small white teeth exposed, the boy chased after the intruder, now his prey, and snapped at his heels. When the wolf wheeled around to look upon his smallest attacker, he opened his own jaws. Mason yelped as he skittered to the side, the wolf's teeth catching on one of his oversized ears.

OM NOM NOM.

The hybrid woman's heart flared as she ran, the scents and sounds of her clanmates surrounding her. Their paws pounded in her ears, and every now and again her fur would brush up against one of her fellows, goading her to run faster and harder. That wolf's scent was caught in her throat, fire burning behind her single eye as she saw him up ahead of her. There was a sound and a great thundering of bodies against the ground, and Gabriel had the wolf on the ground. There was a sudden surge around her as the clan saw this and leapt forward, each of them eager to take their vengeance in the form of this trespasser's blood.

Anselm was there before the rest of them, snarling and growling threats at the wolf. The hybrid woman was there in an instant at his side, swarming around to the wolf's other side to box him in. There was no escaping this; the coyotes were swift and exact in their vengeance. Anselm had taken a grip on the wolf's other leg, but in the moments it had taken Kaena to approach he had allowed that grip to slacken, and the wolf was trying to get away now, his fourth leg useless and crippled, held above the ground. In a moment, Mason was there, and Kaena trailed just behind him as he charged the wolf, keeping close to the younger coyote. She didn't really approve of his contribution to the attack, but he was a full-fledged clan member and he ought to at least be present. Either way, the bloodlust had driven her beyond the ability to admonish, so she remained close.

The instant Mason's cry of pain reached her ears, there was a blood-curling growl from the woman, sharp and loud as a crack of thunder. Immediately the silvery hybrid was on him, her pale chest against his shoulder and her teeth finding his scruff, those fangs digging in sharply. This was no motherly grip; Kaena had taken a large chunk of his flesh and fur into her mouth, roughly yanking the pale wolf to the ground. It did not take much effort; the pain and loss of limb had severely damaged the wolf's ability to balance. Releasing him, she rounded and snapped at his face, her yellowed fangs slicing through his face, crossing his eye and digging deep into his cheek. "Touch him again," she dared him, snarling the words through her teeth, placing herself squarely between the downed wolf and Mason, her sun-yellow eye glaring threats at the trespasser's soul.

Short, because I'm not really here!

Halo was no true warrior. Perhaps she would have let the rest of the clan have fun with the wolf if it had not been for the sight of the coyote puppy. Perhaps the little idiot had tried to be brave. Halo spared no moment of thought to the reason why he was there. What she saw was jaws seeking after flesh that belonged to the clan. Despite sour thoughts and twisted heart, loyalty ran thick through her veins. If her blood coloured eyes had not already held the boiling hot red colour already, they definitely would have now. She hated children, but this child was her own because it was Inferni.

Halo had slowed down when the other clan members had started tearing at the fleeing wolf, but now she shot forward again like a mortal arrow with a shut down brain that screamed of instinct and death. She noticed her beloved Kaena catch hold of the male’s ruff and face, and Halo instantly took the opportunity that presented itself. Her jaws opened wide and she darted straight for the gray male’s throat. Her terrible growl was muffled as teeth sank deeper than she could ever have imagined and blood sprayed everywhere when she tore and ripped his throat open. Perhaps she ruined the fun, but there was no thoughts left in the girl when the girl stole the male’s life.

Even as he hit the ground, there was noise and confusion. Anselm’s voice, though he did not hear the words, and then terrible screaming pain. This was what he had wanted; this was what the wolf deserved. Gabriel made it to his feet as two distinct sounds came—one, Mason, yelping in pain. The second, his mother, as terrible as a dragon. She was on the wolf, a harpy fiend, lunging, drawing blood. Behind the Aquila his own son came, and Ezekiel wasted little time passing his father and grabbing hold of the hind leg that was not broken. Only then, thrashing futilely, did the kill come. It was his niece who struck, rushing into the exposed throat and ripping it from the stranger.

Gabriel moved forward only then, walking gingerly on the aching leg. Though no pleasure showed on his face, his eyes were burning laughter. “I want this bastard on a pike,” he spat, not caring who did the act, or how it was done. Either way, they had done what they had needed to do. The threat was dead. Lifting his head from the still twitching, bleeding carcass, his amber eyes found Halo, blood-coated and not much younger then his own son. “Halo,” he continued. “You’ve earned your place as a member of the Hydra. Consider yourself a warrior of Inferni now.” She had done what needed to be done, something he had not expected from the girl. Then he turned, seeking out the only figure that seemed out of place amongst the chaos. “Mason, are you all right?”
