Vieira's paws ached and she could not remember a time when they hurt like this. Three months of nonstop travel had taken quite the toll and her young form, wearing her thinner than usual and her petite from abnormally gangly and she couldn't remember the last time she had eaten. Vieira was given a place, a name, and a time to make it and while the woman knew whoever she was looking for would not know of this surprise, she had the urge to complete the time built in her because she could not, and would not, disobey. It would have been the best time to disappear from the face of the earth, go the opposite direction and start else where, but fear drove her. It moved her feet as fast as they could go, stopping when she could not go no further, and picking back up when she was rested and able to make another several days without stopping.

Surprisingly, the slave had made it a few days ahead of time and before she found her way to the borders of Inferni, she dared to take a day to sleep and eat so she could be in better shape when she arrived. She managed to catch a small meal the night before and after three months, it still felt weird. She had never been able to catch without permission but she assumed the circumstance would change for now, at least until she arrived, and she could only hope this were the case. With a meal settling in her stomach, a long night's sleep, she was able to finish her journey to Inferni. The borders is where she stood, finally having the energy to change from her four legged to stand on two. Feeling a little rusty on two legs, she felt dizzy and it took a moment to regain everything and make sure she was able to stand up straight, shoulders back, and staring off elsewhere.

Without wasting further time, Vieira lifted her muzzle and howled. It lasted only a moment, breaking the cold morning air and calling directly for Kaena. She stood nervously in anticipation, unable to fathom what the woman would be like or what her purpose would be. The woman that sent her made a sudden decision and gave her such few details, but a message awaited inside her mind that did not give her any answers.

funfunfunfunfun omg fun <3. Kae be Lupus, btw.

The coyote sat on the front porch of the mansion rather listlessly, her golden eye glaring forward at the overgrown gardens sprawling before her. The hybrid inhaled the scent of the oncoming autumn, her eyes drifting to the dying greenery surrounding her. It seemed as if fall had suddenly come crashing down on their heads without warning; last week the trees were green and lively, now they were orange, brown, and red or already bare. A coat of leaves covered the ground, and each time Kaena shifted her position on the porch they crunched with her movement.

The mansion was better used than it had been since Cotl moved in. Kaena sometimes worried about Halo, living on this bare edge of Inferni territory all by her lonesome, and even if Cotl was relatively new, Kae liked him just fine and his presence here with her granddaughter gave the Centurion a strange sort of comfort. Halo was a woman, and women shouldn't be alone without someone else to watch their back, or so Haku Soul had taught her. His name reoccurred bitterly to the hybrid quite often, and she was sick of thinking of him.

A welcome distraction rose at the border, and the hybrid hopped to her feet immediately, trekking forward to the source of the sound with purpose in her step. Anything to keep her head occupied was just fine with her, and it did not take the hybrid terribly long to identify a strange scent at the borders. She tracked it to the source, walking swiftly in her four-legged form toward the strange coyote waiting on the borders. A silver ornament decorated her nose, but otherwise she appeared quite normal, at least opposed to the most recent addition to their ranks, Cotl. "What can I do for you?" she asked, presenting neither warmth nor aggression to the stranger, regarding her with an interested golden eye.

For the time being, Vieira lost her sense of time. She was used to waiting around, whether she had no purpose or doing some tedious task asked of her in the meantime. Now, she stared off rather plainly, lacking emotion, and waited. When the four legged form approached, Vieira mentally cursed herself for not being in the proper form but there was nothing she could do. She remained silent as her eyes scanned the form but she barely looked at her face but enough description was given and the call was answered, after all. There was no sense this would not be Kaena, but nonetheless, she could not ask the questions.

"To Kaena Lykoi," she breathed and looked at the ground to the left. "I have been sent as a gift for Kaena Lykoi. My father is Astaroth Kimaris and my mother is unimportant," she said with a pause but left little time for the other to speak. "and 'in the hope that you can someday forgive me, Eris Lykoi,'" she finished and the fingers on her left hand lightly tapped her thighs. Vieira swallowed nervously as she stared at a leaf on the ground. If she were denied, she didn't know what to do. She had not been given any sort of instructions should Kaena Lykoi not want her or any idea what she woman would do with her if accepted. Fear of Eris fueled her and the training of Astaroth kept her still and waiting for order.

The silver-furred hybrid regarded the younger canine before her with that curious golden eye, already sizing her up. The coyote had lived too long to mistake the young canine for anything but a vagrant in search of a home; she was thin from months of travel and her body appeared worn, ragged. Still, that was the condition most of the newcomers arrived in, and it showed little of their potential once well-rested and well-fed. The hybrid woman herself had dragged her carcass to these borders, lagging and starving half to death from the long months on the road.

Kaena didn't figure there was anything particularly unique about this coyote before her at that immediate moment. Clearly, she was a coyote—if she was a hybrid, her percentage of wolf or dog or other canine was quite low (or negligible). There was still something vaguely familiar about the canine that Kaena could not place, some structural echo of someone she had once known in the girl's face, but the canine could hardly identify it, and she simply gazed at the tawny canid for the moment, trying to determine where that vague tingle of familiarity had originated. Her ears swept forward to listen to the coyote's words.

The younger coyote spoke the Centurion's name, which definitely drew her attention. Immediately her posture changed; the silver-furred hybrid leaned forward, wondering what madness this was—she was utterly confused at the ash-dusted canine's words at first. There was clear nervousness in the canine, and the words sounded almost... scripted, as if she had been instructed to say them. Bewildered, the hybrid stepped forward to examine the other coyote closely. "Eris sent you? As a gift?" she asked, bewildered. That was the more important connection.

The canine did not think for a moment this was Eris's child; Kae was almost certain this coyote was older than her coal-furred daughter. Even then, the stranger's percentage of wolf was either not present or negligible. It was clear to Kae she was looking at a mostly or wholly purebred coyote, and the strange, tingling familiarity was most certainly that of Astaroth. The coyote almost expected rage or hurt at the mention of that man, but none came. He had paid his debt to the hybrid with his life. "Who are you?" the coyote asked, a hint of gruffness creeping into her voice with her confusion. There were too many new things to deal with in those simplistic statements, and they had given the hybrid too many answers to questions she did not know how to begin asking.

The pause after her last statement and Kaena's next seemed an eternity. The next few words were important, her future depended on it and even she didn't know what she wanted. When the elderly woman finally spoke, Vieira twitched but did her best to suppress it. "Yes ma'am," she confirmed with a nod of her head. Her eyes scanned the ground and found her feet. It would be easier if the other were in a taller form of two legs and she would not be risking making eye contact and she knew that from one of her first lessons as a child, along with the res tof her etiquette.

Vieira swallowed hard and felt the strain in her throat. "Vieira Lykoi," she announced robotically. "Formally Kimaris," she added and nodded. "I am here to serve you," she said to make sure the point was across. Vieira felt desperate for a response, for a clue on what was going to happen. She was still exhausted from travel but she was able to remain still and could for some time to come, but without knowing, she felt lost and without purpose. She needed direction and order and, if she were a gift denied, she'd ultimately return to Eric whether or not she was supposed to. And she'd return to accept a punishment to a fault none of her own.

The mention of her daughter had spurned a flame of hatred in the hybrid's heart, and Kaena remembered waking up, half-dead, to an empty meadow and a corpse. Eris should have been there—no, instead she was gone. The hybrid woman had only given hate to her daughter from that moment on, though she had expected some form of contact eventually. This was entirely unexpected, some child of Eris's kidnapper sent to appease her in some way? The hybrid couldn't understand yet how this canine could be a gift; that concept perplexed her entirely and her brain hadn't even begun to wrap around that yet.

The other canine's submission did not go unnoticed by Kaena, who recognized the aversion of the eyes. Her confirmation was of little use to Kaena, who shook her head, trying to straighten the jumble of thoughts bouncing around inside of it. "Eris left me to die. Why would she give a shit about me?" the hybrid demanded, not realizing this was a question Vieira might not be able to answer. The coyote still did not comprehend the nature of their relationship, not until the coyote again spoke, answering the woman's question with her name. It was Kaena's immediate assumption that Eris would be so brash as to extend the surname to a canine not of their blood, and it made her strangely angry, almost violated.

"Serve me? Are you certain it's not to kill me in my sleep or poison our water?" the hybrid said. She did not know her daughter beyond the small puppy she'd been when Astaroth first took her, and the momentary image of her on the edge of the meadow where she'd fought Astaroth were no insight into the coal-furred woman's personality. Kaena suspected some foul play here. The coyote could not help but think badly of her daughter; as far as Kaena knew, she was a simple traitor, and that was all. "You're a slave?" The question was sudden, and the tone far less barbed than either of the previous ones. The tone had reverted to incredulous, then—it was a sudden realization to the hybrid.

Vieira could only assume Kaena was getting somewhere. She was getting the idea, somehow, but nonetheless still asking questions. The first made her heart sink; she didn't have an answer. She worried if she did not know or did not answer, a punishment would be served. Her ears swiveled and rested on the back of her head in response. "I do not have an answer, ma'am," she said and hoped it was good enough. She had no other words, no other explanation. She was given such little information about her purpose. Go. Serve, were the simplest way to explain it.

It were as if the wheels were turning in her mind and before she got to answer the second question, a third was given. "Yes, ma'am," she answered with another nod and stared at the ground. Vieira wanted desperately to announce she was not here to kill anyone, could probably not even do such an act (physically or mentally) but she withheld speaking again. It was hard for her to speak out of turn or when it was not necessary, and while she had been asked a question (perhaps rhetorical), it was not something she could answer. She resorted to something simple and for now, hoped it to be that way. She had been a little more comfortable with Astaroth and Siravo to say more and it was always overlooked. But now she had a new owner, a new mistress, and she did not know what to expect.

The hybrid woman watched the canine carefully, her single yellow eye scrutinizing her every movement. There was only nervousness, tiny movements and those carefully downcast eyes. Her answers were almost mechanical, and they did not provide any insight to the canine's personality. She answered what was asked and nothing more, and the hybrid's anger was fading, replaced by a dawning realization of what the hell was going on here. This was an elder child of Astaroth's, then—Kaena had figured that much out. There was virtually no possibility that Vieira had been conceived while Astaroth was on the run for Kaena, thus it was most sensible she had been spawned in the time between when Kaena had bore his children and when he had returned to seduce her. The idea that her mother was unimportant was rather familiar to Kaena; in hindsight the hybrid saw that Astaroth viewed her as nothing more than a womb through which to conceive his children.

A grin that was both delighted and sinister spread across the hybrid's face. This was three times, then, that she'd triumphed over the dead man—Samael, Razekiel, and Ahemait were to be his, but he failed to return to him, and they were her children alone, hardly carrying a memory of their father amongst them. He had tried to steal Eris from her, and if this canine was genuine in her intentions then he had failed on that end, as well. Finally, there was this new, unexpected canine—a Lykoi possession without actually containing Lykoi blood, intended to help the hybrid woman? No, help was too weak a word—intended to, as Vieira herself had put it, serve Kaena? "So, you'll do as I say, then? No questions, no complaints?" the hybrid queried. That was too good, then; Astaroth was a miserable failure in every way, and this strange twist had brought two more to light to Kaena. She had never expected to hear the man's name from anyone else's mouth but her own family, and it was almost hilarious to her now that his child would be her property.

Vieira knew nothing else outside of serving. She knew nothing of her mother, taken away when weaned and her had been killed by her father. The information was so dull inside her that it no longer bothered her. At first, it was built up to make her believe her mother was important but it was brought down on her, degrading her, until it no longer had an effect. Even in her mind she was forced to believe she was meant to carry children but it all changed when she had not been able to get pregnant. At first, it had been a blessing because it was her own father and Siravo (whom she believed was apart of the process) but it was a punishment, one after the other.

And now, Kaena. Vieira could not read her mind. She did not know the real connection between Astaroth and her knew mistress and while she wanted to know, she did not ask. "Yes ma'am," she said with little hesitation. She supposed she had her answer after all.

This was a lovely turn of events for Kaena, if it was truth and not some wild scheme concocted by Eris to try and rid the world of her mother. The hybrid knew who the sable-eyed child's father was; she was not stupid enough to believe Eris had completely escaped the illness and evil that had plagued both sides of her genes. Kae didn't know a damn thing about Salvaged's extended family, but he himself was vile enough to contaminate her, wasn't he? And yet, here was this creature, soft-spoken and offering the hybrid woman nothing other than what she asked and nothing more.

Kaena had never studied a lick of psychology but she recognized this behavior and realized it must have come from some kind of conditioning. There was something broken about this individual, beaten or bred out of her in some manner; the coyote did not know. Kaena was not a moral creature; she did not question this gift beyond its intent now that she had ascertained its value. What was the harm in slavery anyway? She was old, to have someone to help her and do as she asked... someone unlike Samael, whom she certainly still cared for despite recent events. "Shift to your four-legged body," the hybrid said, trying a command on the canine. The hybrid couldn't find herself caring about what form the woman was in, she simply wanted to test the creature before her and see what would happen.

The silvery coyote looked at the creature before her with interest in her scarred features, no longer bewildered by the situation but having come to understand it almost completely—she still did not understand why Eris might have sent this creature instead of returning herself if she wished to seek the grizzled matron's forgiveness, but for now, that could be overlooked. Later, maybe Vieira would be able to reveal more about what the sable-furred child had become, if it was not a betrayer and a traitor to the blood.

It was as if everything clicked into place all of a sudden. There were no more accusations, no more trying to find out the worth of Vieira, no more questions. Instead, it was a simple order and one Vieira would have been able to do on any given day had she not just traveled three months nonstop. While she wanted to object, she knew well enough not to. Even with a new master, she knew not what her buttons were and she was not wanting to push those buttons on her first day on the job. She was afraid of being sent back to face a punishment Eris might have thought up in the meantime should it happen.

Vieira's exhausted body took a moment to change but it was evident through her expression she was trying. It also took longer than usual and she had to take a minute in her halfling form for a breather. Shifting this far took what energy she had left but she knew better than to stop. Her bones and form in limbo, Vieira forced herself further and into her tiny, petite form that she had been in the night before. When everything connected into place within the seconds of the shift, her legs gave out beneath her weight and she crumpled to the ground. When she wanted nothing more than to sleep, she picked herself up and stood. "S-sorry, ma'am," she murmured an apology and felt no need to explain why she had given out in addition that she shouldn't have spoken at all.

However, now in her four legged form, her tail swept up and lined her belly, her head low and nose near the ground and her order was complete.

The hybrid watched quietly as the other canine shifted, pausing for a moment in her half-formed body. This was distinctly different from any joining process she might have experienced prior to this one, and the hybrid woman figured she was unlikely to experience such a thing again. The process was difficult for the canine, and Kaena had to assume it was due to her poorer health from traveling so long—the coyote woman had no idea where Astaroth was from or where Eris ended up, but it had to be further than where she ended up, and that was a long, long way away.

It was a test of sorts, and the as the coyote finished her shift and became four-legged, she apologized, which certainly helped convince Kaena that the young woman was genuine in her intentions. The hybrid wondered what had come over Eris to change her heart. Certainly Astaroth had filled her head with lies and wild stories; the problem, however, was that Kaena had no idea what Eris had been told. Was it the same sort of devil-based lie he'd spun to Kaena? The coyote had no idea who Astaroth really was; he was a mystery to her now. The coyote had been wearing Halo's necklace for weeks now, and for the first time she was distinctly aware of its presence around her neck, the yellowed canine and what it stood for dangling obscenely around her neck. Halo had been kind enough to make it large enough still ring her Lupus form's neck, and Kaena never had to remove the thing.

The silver-furred hybrid offered a shrug, and decided on another question. She wanted to know more about this canine, but she now realized that the right questions had to be asked, otherwise Vieira would offer only confirmation or barebones information. Speak when spoken to echoed through the Centurion's head. It was a mantra she was familiar with, though she'd never subscribed to it herself. "What do you know about me? You know this is Inferni, yes?" the hybrid questioned, wondering if the first one was perhaps too open-ended. "Eris didn't tell you to do anything other than come here and serve?" the coyote asked, the edge of suspicion too nagging to release immediately.

Vieira was thankful Kaena did not lash out when she had fallen to the ground. Her legs still felt shaky after the shift and travel, but she stood. She waited. Her mind did not go anywhere for the time being while Kaena considered things and began to ask her questions. The woman had to remember what she had been told, as little as it was, and answer carefully. "She told me little," she responded after a moment. "That you are her mother, that I am her sister, and you have a big family," she said. Vieira was not used to the idea of family outside her father or her master. She did not know she had other siblings and the only sibling she knew about, Eris, was not even her sibling at all. "She told me Inferni is where I was going. A coyote clan, but that was all," she said with a bit of a nod, her nose wrinkling and her septum piercing wiggled against her.

"To come here and serve, yes ma'am. Nothing further. I would not know what to do should you have denied your gift," she added, indirectly stating a former worry. It seemed Kaena was accepting enough of the present and, ultimately, Vieira was to accept this. She had a new mistress and new things in store. She had a pack to answer to if Kaena were to share, and that thought made her nervous. Astaroth and Sivaro had kept her for themselves, separately. Eris had done the same, for the most part, but it was not always the case.

Perhaps the hybrid should have expected Viei to know so little. The hybrid certainly hadn't kept anything remotely similar to a slave before, but she supposed it involved a certain amount of distancing oneself. Eris wouldn't have shared her darkest thoughts and secrets with Viei if the sable-furred child viewed her only as chattel. The coyote listened with interest, trying to discern the exact nature of this coyote's relationship with her hybrid daughter. The Centurion was highly intrigued by the possibility of learning more about her lost daughter, now that it was possible Eris was not the black sheep Kaena had thought she was.

The hybrid was shocked by the admission that this canine was Eris's sister. Kae knew it was not true; she knew the truth of the sable-furred child's parentage. It was highly convenient for Kaena, however, that Eris believed Astaroth to be her father. The hybrid supposed it made sense; their coats were similar in color, though Astaroth was not solidly black. His coat was more or less a deep shade of chocolate interspersed with both silver and coal shading in places, certainly a coyote from a mountainous region. There was no point in spoiling that illusion for Kaena, so she offered half of a smile and a nod. "Indeed. Eris is Astaroth's child," the coyote said. It was enough to fool most; the hybrid assumeed most canines would not be able to infer Eris's exact percentage. "Makes you her half-sibling. You got two more of those here in Inferni—Samael and Razekiel are Astaroth's children as well."

Perhaps if Viei had actually been a Lykoi, Kaena might have been inclined to care about her plight, but the hybrid now understood who this child belonged to, and in a way, that justified whatever happened to her. Astaroth had been a liar and a terrible canine, and his kin deserved what became of them. "Well...come with me, then," the hybrid said, tossing her head and turning abruptly, heading toward the center of the territory. She supposed she could feed Viei and settle her in. The hybrid wished to find Gabriel and receive his input. The coyote did not have to turn her head and look to insure Viei was following.

Kaena confirmed the relationship between Eris and Vieira, even if she did not need it. In her mind, it were true, and she was not meant to question it. It was true if her master said it was such and that was that. Kaena was her new master and gave her the information. Had she said it was false, Vieira would have reluctantly believed, but believed nonetheless. The information that she had two other siblings, however, freaked her out a little. Having one sibling was enough, especially having become a servant to the woman, and now she had two others she would serve if informed. The younger woman registered the names in her mind and just nodded she understood.

Without hesitation, Vieira moved to follow her leader. Her legs ached but she did not complain or ask to remain still. She moved as quick as she could in order to follow along. She knew not the territory which she was traveling and so, naturally, her eyes wandered but never landed on Kaena. She knew this territory would not be something she would travel freely or on a whim without a chaperon but she was curious to see the rest and hoped maybe, one day, she would get the chance.

As the hybrid walked, she had expected something from the younger canine, not necessarily a thanks or a sense of relief, but some kind of speech, at the least. Instead, the coyote remained quiet, walking along behind Kaena in her new four-legged form. The silvery Centurion was somewhat disoriented by this, finding it rather disconcerting to have a subservient creature unwilling to offer anything personal beyond what she had been instructed to say or asked. Kaena found herself wondering if the creature had a personality at all; her golden eye stole glances backward at the tawny-furred coyote as they walked, still marveling at this turn of events. She could hardly fathom that Eris would seek her forgiveness; the silvery matron had it in her head for so long that the child of Salvaged Eternity hated her, wished to be away from her—at least, her actions had seemed that way.

They headed toward the caves in silence at first, and finally the hybrid was so momentarily weirded out by the creature's silence that she had to speak. "What can you do? Read? Write? Fight? Hunt?" the coyote asked, wondering what this coyote was capable of. She was smaller in size and though she appeared exhausted and starved, the hybrid was confident she would be of use. At the very least it was quite nice to have a creature around to do her bidding if she willed it. Samael was like that, but Kaena viewed Sam as more of a personal soldier than anything else, and anyway, after the other night's indiscretion, she was not certain she wished to be around him as much. The possibility of bad things happening was far too great. The coyote was curious to know just what the younger canine could do for her—there was little question in the hybrid's mind that she was keeping Viei. It was too interesting a development, Vieira too great an asset to simply send her away.

Astaroth had, for a short time, given her free speech. She did not always use it but it was a privilege she enjoyed but Sivaro had taken that from her and Eris had never given her much of a chance to talk to begin with. The silence between the coyotes did not bother Vieira so much, unable to question her intent or destination or anything that was going through her mind, that the silence was actually something she liked as well. It meant something she had done was right, somehow, because she rarely was praised for actions but often punished, instead. Her flaws were flaunted instead of her skills and, thus, the question surprised her.

"I cannot read or write," she murmured. If she had been given the chance, she would take it. It had been an interest when she was younger, before she understood the extent of her situation, but it was taken away and she was forced to forget about it. Anything Astaroth had in longhand was foreign to her and she simply had to overlook it. "But I can hunt in instinct, though not well. My food was brought to me often instead," she said and turned to look at the back of Kaena's legs while she spoke, feeling as if it were appropriate. "I cannot fight. I can do household chores. Cleaning, cooking," she said with a idly flip of her tail that brushed her thighs. She felt her cheeks go red in that moment and she resisted speaking of another skill. It was not one she liked to do or talk about and for now, she did not see the harm in keeping it silent.

"But I can be trained to your will, ma'am, to what you want me to do for you," she offered and nodded, even though Kaena was looking away. It was simply habit to confirm because as a slave, she could not have doubts in anything.

The hybrid was quite curious to know what her daughter had become. Eris was two and a half now by Kaena's calculation, and she wondered what that time had done to her daughter. Where had she gone? What had she done? The hybrid figured there was plenty of time to ask these questions, and even if Vieira could not provide in-depth answers she would be of some use to the hybrid woman, who might be able to determine something of Eris's life from the woman's story.

She spoke of her skills, and the hybrid cocked a coal-colored ear to listen, disappointment flooding her. The Centurion often still thought of finding someone to write down Inferni's history so it might be referred to later by other canines. They could keep a room in the mansion dedicated to their history with a written log of it. Such an idea was quite appealing to the hybrid still, and it disappointed her to learn Viei was not educated in the ways of the written word. Still, perhaps Kaena would be able to barter with someone else to teach her that skill, and narrate to her. These thoughts were confirmed as Vieira continued to speak, offering for the first time more information than Kaena had expressly requested. It was a relative subject, though, and the hybrid was glad to hear that.

"That's good. I live in a cave, so it's not like you're gonna have to bust your ass to keep it tidy," the hybrid offered. "You'll stay with me. You hungry?" the coyote asked. She was not entirely certain how to regard this creature yet, but she was perceptive enough to detect the raw edge of hunger emanating from the young woman, present in her thin frame and hollowed yellow eyes. Kaena figured they could fish something from the coast; if the woman did not know how to fish, she would have to learn it. The tide pools and the rocky coast provided much of Kaena's diet.

With the instruction that she would live in the cave with Kaena, she accepted and quietly nodded. She had never lived in the caves back home, but in her own little room in the back yard of Astaroth. She was not always there, but it gave her her place, after all. "Yes, ma'am," she responded quickly. While she ate the night before, it was not enough to make up for her malnourishment. She could handle another meal, if not several, to make up for everything lost. "Do you want me to hunt something for us, ma'am?" she dared to ask, offering her services. She had not been asked to do anything yet and so she decided to take the first time in their relationship. Vieira would gladly offer to hunt, even as tired as she was, but it was not her place to express how she felt without being asked.
