you lied about your twisted sins

The hybrid sat stock-still on the edge of the water, her golden-yellow eye focused on the choppy surface of the water in front of her. It was a typical December day, cold and blustery, wind whipping across the inlet and churning the water, slicing through the hybrid's coat. She already bore her thicker winter fur, just shades darker than her usual colors and hardly enough to qualify as different from her summer coat. As she sat and watched for the bright flash indicative of a swimming fish, her mind drifted just slightly, wondering how well-prepared she was for the impending cold season. It would not be long before they saw snow, Kaena knew, and while she anticipated this with an almost child-like glee, she feared for the safety and preparedness of Inferni as a whole. Some of their canines were not built for extremes of temperature, and the cold was especially damaging to those with the thinnest coats. Like Vieira, she thought, realizing the smaller canine was from a southern climate. The hybrid wondered if she'd ever even seen snow before.

The hybrid's optime form made for easy fishing; she remained crouched down, kneeling over the water with her right hand at the ready, frozen at her side and waiting for her meal. There were already two fish at her side, their throats (or what Kaena supposed was their throat, since they did not have necks in the traditional sense of a canine) neatly slit by her single claw. One more ought to suffice; the fish were of some rather large type, distinctly different from the ones the hybrid woman had caught for Vieira before. She had no idea what to call them, but she appreciated their size and hoped that the third would be of a similar size, enough to feed both herself and Vieira. The coyote's attention was drawn by the distinctive glitter of scales beneath the surface of the water. She went absolutely still, her muscles bunching together to spring forward and snatch the fish expertly, her claws seeking hold in its rubbery flesh.

Kaena flipped the fish onto land, killing it in the same efficient way she'd dispatched the first two, and gathered up her catch by the tails, heading back toward her home rather quickly. Hunger gnawed at her, and she was eager to see how far Vieira had progressed in her chores. As the hybrid crested a low-slung hill, she was rather pleased to see the sticks had already been gathered into a pile, a small indentation on the earth just outside of Kae's cave. The hybrid could have used the main firepit, but there wasn't enough fish to go around to everybody else, and she would rather stick close by her home anyway. The hybrid knelt and set the fish next to her, grabbing the rock to set to sparking the kindling tucked between some of the sticks, striking the two irregularly shaped items together until a spark set it to flame. The silver-furred coyote knelt to exhale at the flames, blowing on them to ignite the fire. Kae wasn't quite sure if Viei knew how to set a fire, and the last thing the hybrid wanted was for her to light herself up. "Vieira," the coyote called to the entrance of the cave, intending for the other canine to take over cooking duties.

When Vieira was cleaning, she found there were few things for her to do. The cave was not excessively large but it as a good size, the items inside were scarce, though, and she found she would clean too quickly and be finished before Kaena returned. Vieira knew better than to be standing around when her owner came inside and so she would repeat her tasks and go slower. Rotating items and then returning them to their rightful spot. She straightened up the covers on Kaena's bed and the floor in Vieira's room. Nothing was spectacular, but it was straightened up and Vieira was able to occupy her mind. If she was sitting still, her mind would focus on something she didn't want to think about and the topic of interest was her last violation just a few days ago. Her first punishment since arrival and it had broken her down for a few days.

Kaena had been acting different since then but Vieira did not know if it was normal. She had only been here a few days, a week at most, and she did not know the habits the other woman had. Her mind would soon grow a sixth sense for the woman, as she had Astaroth and Sivaro. Things would be clearer later on if everything continued to escalate in patterns. Both of her owners had been sporadic in actions but in an organized fashion she had been able to pick up on.

The woman heard motion toward the entrance and Vieira glanced in that direction but she did not stop. She was straightening out the corners of Kaena's bed for the third time and making sure there were no wrinkles. Just as she finished last the corner, Kaena called and she did not hesitate a second before coming down to greet her. "Hello miss Kaena," she said quietly and, finding a place to focus, her golden eyes found the fish near the fire. In addition to the things needed for the fire, Vieira had set the pan out so she was ready. Next to it was a small blanket or hand towel to wrap the handle in order to prevent from burning herself. Vieira knelt down near the fish Kaena had caught.

The fire was warm against her skin compared to the cave and the warmth was more than welcome. Without any other utensils, she had been unable to find (but she had not looked too much, she did not want to snoop), she shoved one of her claws just below the head and began to saw it back in order to gut the animal. It was a quick process, if a little dirty without a knife, but she worked on pulling out the unpleasant parts that were not desirable while cooking. Her hand reached over and put them out of the way, making a pile for the next two fish. Astaroth had been fond of fish and often times brought them home for her to cook and she felt a small hint of confidence in her skill and hoped it would please Kaena enough.

Yeees. Big Grin

The silver-furred woman watched as Vieira emerged from the cave, but for only a moment did her yellow-gold eye focus on the other woman; very quickly she averted her gaze, looking instead to the fire and the fish, the pan that Vieira had set out. Kaena did not normally cook what she ate, but she appreciated the taste of lightly seared foods and smoked ones, the strange and exotic spice cooking gave to food. The other coyote greeted her, and the hybrid was compelled to respond. "Don't know about you, but I'm hungry." she stated, and her voice was quite warm, having lost all rough edges for it. She was still dancing around direct questions, leaving it open to response, testing the other coyote for signs of personality. They'd been living together a week, and Kaena had been quite intimate with Vieira, and they were still virtual strangers.

The smaller canine set to work on the fish, roughly splitting one with her claws. The hybrid frowned at this, and stood. "I'll get a knife," she said, disappearing into the shadowy innards of the cave, heading right for the shelf behind her bedding area. She paused over the cloth wrappings of Astaroth's knife, her hand finally wavering to the utility-styled knife right next to it. She wondered if Vieira would recognize it. The tooth hanging around her neck was one morbid thing, but that could have been anyone's tooth. Viei might not automatically recognize it as her father's. The hybrid decided in the end to take both, carrying one in each hand. The purplish crystal of the ritual dagger was cool even through the tattered cloth wrapping. It felt quite wrong in her hand, and she contemplated putting it back, hesitating a moment before emerging from the cave. The hybrid padded to Vieira's side, handing her the utility knife to ease her cutting of the fish, settling back down to the earth next to the warmth of the fire.

Vieira simply nodded her head to the statement but did not feel the need to speak verbally. If she could help it, she avoiding speaking all together. It was the same with her other owners and Kaena was no different. She was confusing to the girl and she didn't know what to expect from minute to minute. It would take time to adjust to, if she could actually do it, but she did not feel optimism or pessimism, instead a bit of indifference. There was nothing she could change in the long run, she learned that rather quickly with Astaroth that there was no easy way out of things.

Kaena announced she would get a knife and, for some reason, she was surprised. Her eyes lifted and she watched the woman disappear into the cave, her hand gripping another fish but she hesitated gutting it and waited. She leaned back against her heels and waited, watching the fish and the fire. As Kaena appeared, Vieira glanced up but only to be aware of the knife that would be coming her way. Her eyes flicked between the two but her hand reached up and she carefully took it from her hands. Astaroth had supervised her when using any sort of weapon, for safety reasons, and she expected the other to do the same.

The slave knew how to use the knife and she began to cut the fish a little easier than using her claws. She did the same with the last one. In addition, she cut the heads off each fish and set everything in the pan. The bodies lined up and the heads in the extra space. She lifted herself up slightly to grab the towel and wrap around the handle of the pan and set it over the fire and remained quiet while she let the fish sizzle.

The hybrid was indeed quiet and indifferent as the other canine worked, lost in her own thoughts as she turned the still-clothed knife over and over in her hand, remembering the way it had sliced through her flesh, the way the blood had spilled and dripped down her ribs. More clearly, the coyote recalled plunging it into Astaroth's flesh to the hilt, twisting it about and spilling his blood in turn. The silver-furred woman was hardly haunted by these memories, but she could not help but think of them when she held this object in her hands.

The hybrid's eyes were drawn to the fish in the pan, her nose attracted by the smell of cooking flesh. Vieira seemed mostly absorbed in the task of cooking; the hybrid took this distraction to gaze at her openly, her golden eye slicing over the other canine's body. In her optime form, Vieira was slight and petite, quite a bit lighter than Kaena and built more thinly. The ashen-furred hybrid had the advantage of wolf's blood to thicken her limbs and increase her stature, though she was still distinctly different from a pureblood anything. Kaena could not help but think that Vieira was pretty; she was pretty. Kaena had to have been a little attracted to her, at least—otherwise she would not have done those horrible sexual things to her. It wasn't all about power struggles, though the hybrid coyote knew that was the bigger part of it.

The silvery coyote sat up, leaning forward toward Vieira. There was a few feet between them, but the hybrid was close for the fire. She set the cloth-wrapped knife next to her and leaned into the fire, finding it awkward now to speak, as if the silence drilled her. For the first time in a long time, the quiet made Kaena feel strangely, it unnerved her. Yet she figured Vieira would not speak unless spoken to. "Astaroth taught you how to cook?" she asked, her golden eye on the tawny shoulders of the other canine.

Cooking was easy, if she were careful. She'd burned herself several times before but she had gotten the hang of it rather quickly. The smell was delightful but she knew it would taste better if she had spices, herbs, or anything to enhance the taste. She felt the fish would not suffice the need of her owner or her expectation for what Vieira could do but she was working with all she had. She thought the next time she went to the city she would grab things, if allowed, but she kept this thought to herself.

Kaena made herself comfortable near the fire and Vieira kept her eyes on what she was doing. Mainly to be focused on anything but Kaena and so she didn't burn herself. The woman spoke and her eyes flickered away from her duty but it returned rather quickly. "Yes, ma'am," she murmured and pulled the fish back, using the knife to loosen up the fish from the pan and turn it over to cook the other side. She noticed she had not cooked it long enough on that side but she did not want to turn it too much for fear of tearing them apart. "He taught me basic things but his sister taught me more, how to make meat taste better and things to add with them that we do not normally eat," she explained.

Vieira felt her hand was a little shaky over the fire and she put her other hand on the handle to hold it up. There had been a sort of grill like apparatus that she was used to and she did not have to feel the weight of the pan after a long period but she could not show weakness. She could not fail. Vieira took a long breath and steadied herself, knowing it would not be too long before they were finished.

mall-caps;">In Character

The hybrid woman did not know much about Astaroth's family. The dark-furred coyote had been careful to avoid most subjects close to him, instead focusing the conversation on her—something Kaena had found enjoyable, naturally. Arrogant creatures enjoyed having their egos stroked, and the hybrid coyote was no different. It was interesting to listen of his sister, Vieira's aunt, though she did not refer to herself as having any relation to the woman. That struck the ash-colored coyote as somewhat odd, and she wondered if Vieira saw all of her family in such a way. That brought an odd sense of sadness over the silver-furred woman, and she frowned at the statement slightly, though there was not disapproval on her face, only a distant sadness for the girl.

The silver-furred hybrid responded after a moment, leaving a pause between Vieira's words and her own, as if she were considering her words very carefully. "His sister?" the hybrid asked, desiring information from Vieira regarding the Kimaris family but unsure as to how to phrase the question. In the days they had been together now, the hybrid woman had not taken too much time to settle down and get to know Vieira and the place from whence she came, perhaps because it was easier for Kaena to rationalize her actions with less personal detail about the Quintus. Her golden eye detected a tremble in the tawny canid's arm, and her other hand went to steady the pan, apparently finding it heavy.

Wordlessly the hybrid scooted closer, reaching out with a silvery hand-paw and grasping for the end of the panhandle. "Pass it here a minute," the coyote spoke, though her voice held absolutely no hint of disappointment. The pan was cast-iron and heavy, fired and seasoned decades prior to the demise of the species that had crafted it.

Vieira had been forced not to mention she was Astaroth's daughter to his family. To her, they were not family. She did not have family. She had a master. She had no idea what family really was, no idea about connections and was generally lost if it came up. She knew the terms. Mother, father, brother, sister. They were in her head. She could make connections, but she had no idea what they were. Astaroth was her father but that was just a word she knew him by. He was her master, her life, and she knew nothing else. His family were just coyotes that tortured her, took advantage of her, and participated in her training.

"Her name is Dieriel," she said and gripped the pan tighter. It was heavy and as she held it, was only going to get heavier. Kaena scooted closer before she was ale to continue and offered to take it from her. Her golden eyes flickered up just for a second to see her expression, since she could not read the tone, and found Kaena was being nice and helping her. Vieira thought it was a little weird but she did not object. Kaena had made an order, however odd it was, and she let the woman take it. When it was free from her hands, she lowered them to her knees as her muscles relaxed and the burn began to disappear.

Her eyes remained on the fish though, so she knew when to have Kaena take them away and she could check them. "She is nice. She did a lot for them, I think, but she was... she was not like me. She knew a lot about cooking," she explained. Her description was not the best one but she did not know how to describe the woman. She was not around all that often, not as much as her two uncles and grandfather. Even they were not around much, but they were active in her live before Astaroth died. After he did, she did not see much of them.

The coyote woman did not know the specifics of Vieira's childhood. Her own family had been less-than-present; her ancestors were simple ghosts, passed on to her by her mother's psychotic ramblings. Delphine herself could hardly be called a parent; indeed, her only redeeming factor was that she had imparted unto Kaena her coyote blood. Without Delphine, Kaena Lykoi would be a wolf. Or, at least, only a quarter coyote. Her father's muddled coyote blood could hardly be pegged for percentage; his coyote ancestry was scattered and not at all traceable. Kaena herself was of dubious percentage; her mother's heritage was far more clear cut, but her father's was murky and unknown.

The hybrid woman clutched at the end of the pan wrapped in cloth, supporting its weight in her hand. It was heavy, and the hybrid understood quite well why Vieira had required two hands. After a moment, she drew in her other arm for support as well, turning her coal ears to the other canine to listen to her speak. Dieriel. The name was obviously foreign to the hybrid woman, who nonetheless listened in curiosity as Vieira described her aunt. The other canine's voice broke as she compared Dieriel to herself, breaking the comparison and skirting around any definitive word for herself.

"You have a big family?," the hybrid asked. There was interest in her golden-yellow eye, clearly reflected as the hybrid's gaze focused on the other coyote, confident Vieira was still in charge of the fish, able to tell when they were done. She wondered what the rest of them were like; for everything Astaroth had done he was still intensely intriguing to her, even after his death, perhaps because she had known so little about him, and here was this golden source of information—his very child. "Did you know your mother?" the hybrid asked, recalling when the coyote had showed up on her border she had plainly stated the woman who gave birth to her was "unimportant." That was just one of the oddities Kaena could recall, one of the many things that had blown her mind just the other week.

It was quiet for a moment and then Kaena asked about her family. Her eyes were focused on the fish but for a moment, she could not see them. Her ears slowly rotated to the back of her head and considered the question. Her jaw tightened and her tail swept up beside her and her left hand reached down and grabbed it out of a nervous habit. "I did not have family," she murmured and looked at her other hand. She was a slave, not a family member. "I just had my master," she added and forced herself to look at the fish, picking the knife up and carefully reaching over the fire to poke at the heads and running the knife against the scales of the fish to test the flakiness.

"No, ma'am," she said and put the knife down. It would be a few more minutes. "Sometimes I think I see her in my head but I don't know if it's... just there for some memory," she explained. The figure in her head was vague and shaped like a coyote but there was no real features to her face, no eye color, she had no idea whether or not she resembled the woman that gave birth to her. With these thoughts, her throat tightened and she felt her eyes sting, tears welling up in her eyes. "He killed her when I was younger," she said and lifted her right hand to wipe her eyes. Vieira was sure Kaena knew who he was and there was no real reason to mention his name.

The hybrid woman had seemed to hit a brick wall in the other canine. Perhaps it was natural for a creature raised to be subservient to disconnect him or herself from notions of family and love. For a moment Kaena pitied Viei immensely; it would seem what little family she did keep hadn't been good to her at all. That was hardly a new revelation to the hybrid woman, who had to assume her treatment of the coyote was much improved over anything Astaroth had done to her. She remained quiet for this, sorry she'd treaded on one of the other canine's sore spots, though it should have been obvious to Kaena.

The sun-colored canine poked at the fish flesh with the knife, setting it down once more. "It's the same with my mother," she said, sharing a little bit of herself with Vieira. Kaena could just barely remember what the woman looked like. Kaena had hardly spent two months of her life with Delphine, and she was lucky for it; longer and she would have died for sure. The hybrid had learned most of her mother's history definitively through her father confirming what she'd picked out of the woman's incoherent ramblings, filling in the holes for Kaena where things had been nonsensical or faded with age.

The other coyote added the final statement, causing the hybrid's sable ears to fall half-mast. "I'm sure he's paid for his crimes," the hybrid said, wondering just how much Vieira (or anyone, really) knew about Astaroth's death. Kaena hadn't bothered to keep it a secret upon returning here; he was another vanquished enemy to her. She contemplated telling the Quintus plainly as she'd done with Samael and Razekiel, but this was not her child. Kaena had no obligation to be truthful toward her, and the hybrid felt it would be good to keep this knowledge to herself.

The woman didn't know how to feel about Kaena comparing their mothers. She did not know her story, just her own, and Vieria had been torn away from the only family she would have considered and now, she was dead. Her father was her father, a brutal man the shaped her to his will to lack any personality of her own that was not his. Kaena's statement about Astaroth paying for his sins made her look in her direction awkwardly. There was not enough pain in the world for Astaroth to pay for what he'd done, Sivaro nor Sabin either. Vieira did not know how to respond to the statement and watched the fish sizzle away.

Her hand picked the knife up and poked at the fish. It was flaky enough and that's when she knew it was ready. "It is done," she said quietly and she shuffled her weight back so Kaena could put the pan between them. All Vieira had to do was make sure they were no longer stuck to the pan and it would be ready. There were no side dishes like she sometimes had to create but she was hungry and the fish would do well enough. The smell filled her nose and she could not help but smile, her first hot meal in a long time. She could not remember the last time she had eaten something hot, or fresh for that matter. Vieira ate sporadically with Eris, as if sometimes she was forgotten about, and Sivaro used it too much as a punishment and even when she did it, it was small amounts and stale.

Vieira looked toward Kaena and sat back after making sure they were not stuck to the pan. She remained quiet after announcing it was done and let the woman pick her first serving.

The tawny canine remained quiet after that, and the elder of the pair shut her mouth as well, thinking perhaps she'd done quite enough damage in interrogating Vieira about her family. Kae ought to have known it was a sore subject, but perhaps some optimistic part of her thought that maybe the family Vieira had outside of Astaroth had been good to her. Kaena knew what Vieira had meant by saying she had no family; the hybrid knew she had blood family beyond Astaroth. She had said Dieriel was Astaroth's sister; that made her Vieira's aunt, obviously. The hybrid understood, sort of, and in a way this was greater insight to Astaroth's family than she might have gleaned if Vieira had simply tried to explain it.

The fish was finished, it seemed, and the silver-furred hybrid was glad to have something to distract them from the conversation, so she pulled it back slowly, setting it on the ground next to the fire. The coyote was not stupid enough to stick her fingers into the frying pan, so she plucked the dagger from behind her and reached forward with it, sticking the pointed end of the crystal dagger into the filleted flesh, prying it off of the pan and holding it up for a moment, allowing it to cool in the air before attempting to grasp it in her hand, lest she burn herself on the hot food. Her single eye flicked to Vieira for a moment, gauging her for a reaction. In a way, this was the silvery hybrid implying to the younger canine what had happened, admitting her own crimes to the daughter of the dark-furred coyote.

Vieira did not often think about the mother she never had, but if she did, it would hit her hard. Mainly because of the way Astaroth had told her and how ruthless he had been. She made the mistake of asking one day and she regretted it but at the same time, she was glad she knew. How could she go on in life knowing the woman that gave birth to her gave her away so easily to a bastard like Astaroth? She heaved a sigh at the thought, her eyes stinging with the tears welling inside. Her hand that did not hold the knife went to her eyes again and brushed back the wetness that formed. She did not want to be caught crying.

Kaena turned to rest the skillet down between them and Vieira poked at them again but Kaena grabbed her knife and Vieira knew better than to get in the way. She was anxious to see how the woman reacted to her cooking, as bland as it might be without spices, and her eyes watched Kaena's movement. However, the knife she selected look familiar and as she stuck it in the fish and picked it up, Vieira's ears fell back against her head. Her golden eyes were lifted slightly to examine the weapon her owner had and was using to hold her lunch. The slave's jaw tightened and her head jerked when she realized she was staring too long and perhaps too high for the hybrid to like it.

Her humanesque hand lifted to the tip of her muzzle as she covered her nose, her hand lightly touching the metal ring that warmed up because of the fire. Vieira lowered her gaze and stared at her lap as the tears welled inside her eyes again and she had a hard time holding the m back even if her hand reached to brush them away.

The coyote's single golden eye flicked to study the other canine's reaction to the object, so revered and so frightening all at once. The hybrid's memories in that purple crystal were strong, and she wondered what other creatures Astaroth might have inflicted pain into with this object. The silver-furred woman's glittering yellow eye studied the other canine, an unreadable expression on her scarred face. In a way, the hybrid was admitting her faults, admitting she'd murdered the father of this smaller canine without verbally and explicitly saying so. The hybrid did not desire forgiveness for her sins; she simply wanted Vieira to know from her. Otherwise, Samael or even Razekiel could mention it to her.

The silver-furred hybrid did not comment on the knife to Vieira, preferring to leave their unspoken conversation where it was. Both likely knew what had passed through the others mind, despite their relative lack of familiarity. The hybrid woman had been able to read that clearly in the strained expression on the Quintus's face, and the ash-furred woman was almost sorry she'd brought it out, almost sorry she'd even stolen it from his corpse at all. What purpose could it serve? Clearly, it was not a combat dagger; though it was roughly hewn from purplish crystal and sharp along the edges, it was not durable in the least, and Kaena could have shattered it against the walls of her cave if she pitched it hard enough. There was power in it, though, and the hybrid woman could not find it in herself to destroy the object.

The other coyote's reaction gauged, the silver-furred canine's attention refocused on her meal, tilting her head to bite off a chunk of it as it dangled from the ritual dagger. The hybrid tried to remember eating cooked fish prior to this occasion, but she did not think she had. The texture of the flesh was intensely different, almost crispy on the outside and flaky inside, lacking that almost rubbery feel of raw flesh. The hybrid found it entirely pleasing, and in appreciation she nodded to Vieira, plucking the remainder of the now-cooled fillet and setting the knife down, swallowing what was left in her mouth. "This is good, Vieira," she said, only able to imagine how much better it would be with spices and exotic tastes rubbed into the meat.

The woman didn't know what to say or do at the knife Kaena was using. She said nothing about it, could not bring herself to bring it up. She had no idea how Kaena could have gotten the knife but just seeing it struck nerves she never wanted to feel. How much pain Astaroth put her throat, what he did to her on a daily basis. The simply memory of that knife was enough to mess with her mind. Vieira put her hand to her eyes and brushed the tears away, only dampening the fur around her sockets but they would dry soon with the heat of the fire.

When she blocked her memories, Vieira rested her hands on her knees and leaned back. She couldn't look at the knife anymore and instead looked at the fish in the pan. She was hungry but something kept her from eating; lack of permission. She knew Kaena was new to owning a slave but her mind was not on that mistake. She had been nice most of the day, given her space and lack of things to do, and she knew this might be a mistake. Perhaps the woman simply forgot to give her permission to eat. Astaroth had always made her wait until he was done and only then could she eat what was left over, if anything at all. Vieira hoped Kaena did not have this idea in mind.

"Thank you, ma'am," she said, considering bringing up the idea of herbs that were missing but she didn't. Perhaps later when she was not overly emotional about the item Kaena was holding.

The tawny-furred woman accepted the compliment graciously, and the silver-furred hybrid chewed happily enough on her own meal, and after a moment it became obvious to her something was off. She couldn't figure it at first, but after gazing on Vieira for a moment or two more she realized it: the other coyote was not eating. The silver-furred canine swallowed what was left in her mouth and peered at Vieira, tilting her ash-furred head to the side with a squinted golden eye. It made sense—Viei needed permission to do anything, and eating while Kaena still was eating, or attempting to, anyway, was probably against someone else's rules. The coyote woman frowned at this slightly, considering; it was a show of dominance to keep the food for herself until she was sated, but the hybrid woman was not certain there was any need for that. She considered this for a long, quiet moment, absently still eating her own fish, swallowing purposefully, and nodding to the metallic-furred canine, the elder of the pair spoke. "Go on, eat," she said, speaking gruffly, almost as if she wished she did not have to say this to her.

Kaena went on and her fingers began interlock awkwardly and patiently. She would and could wait until Kaena was done, if that were the case, and would not complain. However, she felt the older woman's eye on her and her ears angled back and the voice surprised her. Her gaze flickered upward to see if she was serious and when nothing else was mentioned, Vieira reached into the pan and grabbed the smallest fish. It was still a decent size. They were cooled down enough for her to grab without being burned and she brought it to her lips, sniffing it and then taking a bite. The taste was average, she noticed, but she knew she could not have done much about it without seasoning. It was good, at least, and Kaena enjoyed it. That was enough to put a smile on her face because she had done something right. She could avoid a punishment, another attack on her features or another touch on her body she did not want.

Both hands gripped the fish and she took another bite, quiet as she ate away.

Vieira's existence was not without contemplation from Kaena; the hybrid had spent long hours in the last few nights considering the tawny-furred woman. Part of Kaena wished to relinquish her and leave someone else to deal with the pieces; the hybrid woman had enough of her own drama to busy her for a long time. Another part of the hybrid recognized the absolute indoctrination that had been given to Vieira in her youth, and that part of Kae understood that Viei would not have survived on her own. She had never been free to interact with others socially before, and Kaena expected that from her, to some extent, though she was now beginning to realize the smaller canine would never do these things without Kaena's permission. "That's better, hm?" the hybrid inquired, and again her voice was rough, almost gravelly in tone, but this was Kaena's usual intonation. Vieira seemed much more content, and the hybrid noticed the smile; this provoked the smallest ghost of one from the silver-furred coyote, and she buckled down to enjoy her own meal, satisfied with the atmosphere around them now that the other canine was also enjoying her food.

Vieira was able to make it on the most minimal of food but when she was given an abundance, she ate all she could without making herself sick because she had not known when she would be able to eat again. Before she was able to take another bite, Kaena spoke and her hands lowered to her lap with the fish in tow. "Yes, ma'am," she said and nodded, the corners of her mouth were curled but it was not a big smile, but it was one nonetheless. The tip of her tail thumped to emphasize her motion and the fish was brought back to her mouth. A few more bites were taken and the small fish was gone.

The slave noticed the previous tone as she looked at the pan, still hungry for more but she hesitated taking the last fish, bigger than the one she had just devoured. Vieira licked the taste off her lips and felt her hand jerk, reaching into the pan and taking a fish head instead. If Kaena was still hungry after her fish, it was her right to take the body. She came first in this relationship, after all, and Vieira knew that well enough. When silence was between them, she held the fish head in one hand and used her other to pick around the skeleton and pull out the meat it held.
