Vieira lingered outside the cave entrance for a few seconds. She was in awe at Snake's kindness (and coming down from a temporary fear he'd been tattling on her) and held the small box of Legos (perhaps a count of 50 or more) in one of her hands. The lid was still open and her caramel eyes were staring as if she were trying to dissect the situation. Her mind jerked her to attention, however, and she picked up the blankets and extra matches before she swept inside.

"Miss Kaena," she called and looked around the cave until she found the woman, her gaze watching her hands and then glanced away. Slowly, she set the blankets down and picked the matches up before putting them in the satchel with the rest. There were about five blankets, not excessively large but enough, and she did not expect to have any extra for herself. She had gone for Kaena, after all. Vieira diligently untangled herself from the bag over her shoulders, gripping the shoulder and waited for instruction in order to begin showing the woman what she brought.

The hybrid was lost in contemplation, sitting on the edge of her bed. Her single eye seemed to stare right through everything rather than at anything in particular, and it glazed slightly, growing fuzzy and dim with memory. The hybrid's head was not trapped in her more recent dilemma, thankfully—her contemplations were of when her children were young and small, tucked to her body and utterly helpless without her. The coyote woman missed this desperately, and as of late she'd been contemplating stealing a puppy for herself. Or rather, having Vieira do it—such a task was now below the hybrid woman by her considerations. Even so, Viei smelled of Inferni, and wherever she trespassed to steal this puppy she would no doubt bring their scent. The silver-furred woman had no desire to bring an angry mother and her pack down on Inferni in vengeance, though the hybrid had hardly paused to consider the moral implications of stealing a puppy.

A voice snapped her trance, and the ash-furred hybrid lifted her head, her golden eye growing sharp as she peered to the entrance of her cave, viewing most of a shadowy figure with the winter sun reflecting the girl's shadowy sillouhette. "Come in," the hybrid said somewhat awkwardly. By her calculations, Vieira lived here too—even if the alcove wasn't its own separate space, the hybrid didn't figure Vieira should have to ask to enter her own living space... still, she certainly appreciated the woman's politeness in not barging right in on Kaena. The ashen-furred woman watched for the smaller coyote's entrance, already aware that the coyote had completed her city venturing task. Snake had come to ask Kae's permission that Vieira keep her legos, something which Kaena found acceptable yet strange, since by her memory she'd told the tawny-furred canine to get something for herself anyway.

Kaena was strangely quiet and it gave Vieira a chill in her spine as she watched the form up ahead in the cave. Something seemed off but she did not comment or make mention she might have noticed anything. The woman did not want to spark any sort of unwanted action that would make anything go wrong and so as she set the bag on the ground near the back where her bed was, she knelt and began fumbling inside it. Vieira unlatched it slowly and opened, peering inside and tried to decide what to bring out fire. Her hands swept to the blanket and she pulled the matches off and set them neatly in front of her. Her hands grabbed the handful she shoved in her back and put them out too.

The candles were next, they made the most sense, and she sat them by the matches, lining them up neatly as if they were inspected for organization. They were not obscenely large but they would do the job of lighting the place up easily and perhaps bring a ounce of warmth if enough were lit. "I found some dried herbs, too... for cooking," she said quietly and pulled the containers out and set them on the cold cave floor as well as the packs of seeds. She didn't know whether or not the seeds would be of any use or if they were too old to plant. "And I was wondering if it was okay, in the spring, to start a garden nearby so I—we could have them on hand," she said and her eyes found the woman's feet awkwardly.

After the rest was set out on the cave floor, Vieira put her hand back inside where the chain and leash were still located. The chain was faded in color but not quite rusted and the collar was still in good shape, just a little dusty. Her hand quivered as she hovered above it, still having been obliviously to the joke of yesterday, and she pulled them out and tried to make as little sound as possible. They softly clang together and she bunched it up on the cave floor, opposite the blankets.

There was little left of Kaena that could be called normal; the hybrid woman that had replaced Kaena in the recent days was altogether different. She was quieter, far more withdrawn, either keeping to herself or darting off to the reaches of the territory to seek her solitude. She rarely ventured outside of the coyote territory for fear of re-meeting Haku Soul there somewhere out there, and spent most of her time holed up in her own cave, avoiding the hell out of anyone who could be avoided.

The smaller canine entered, and began unpacking the items Kaena had sent her for. The hybrid's sharp eye regarded each of the items even in the dim light of the cave, regarding first the matches and then the blankets, the candles and some other things she did not recognize. Squinting her yellow-golden eye at these, she looked to Vieira and found an explanation well on the way. The hybrid nodded, excited at the prospect of eating seasoned food proper. The hybrid only had to insure that the other canine used the same exact things on Kaena's food as she did her own; the hybrid woman had no idea what was poisonous and what was not, and the dried quality of the herbs meant it was pretty much up to Viei to weed out the stuff that would kill them.

"Looking forward to eating something you cook with them," the hybrid admitted, her eyes roving over the blankets. She leaned forward to pick them up, one by one. They were all of decent quality, some slightly thicker than others, some slightly scratchier. She took two for herself and handed two back to Vieira, figuring they'd keep the other for spare. "Sounds like a plan to me," the hybrid responded, agreeing to the idea that they might have a garden. The coyote woman figured she could maybe convince Anselm to grow something there, and then Kaena would have her own stash of marijuana for personal use and trading purposes.

The silver-furred hybrid's ears flicked at the clanking noise, and she watched incredulously as the other canine retrieved a chain and collar from the bag. The coyote could not stifle a laugh, and she grinned fiercely at Vieira, her golden eye sparkling mischievously. "Girl, I was only kidding with you to bring that thing here," she said, though there was no scolding in her tone. "Though I suppose now that you've brought them..." she trailed off, considering for too long a minute, finally tilting her head back with a grin. "Nah, no need to punish you," the coyote concluded, shaking her head. "You did good with the stuff," the coyote said, sweeping a hand over the possessions Vieira had returned with.

The younger woman felt a little pride inside her that she had done well, that Kaena was looking forward to the next time she cooked. In a way, so was she, and she was even excited to try her hand at gardening thought right now was not a time to find a place to start because she had other things to go over. Her hands felt weak while they held the chain and she could not put them down fast enough. Her eyes focused on them in anticipation, wondering if the woman would use them right away or save them for later. She imagined she would wear the collar at all times and the embarrassment from a pack that was not accustomed to a slave would be difficult to bear. The only thing that was good was that it looked more like an old boyish necklace rather than an actual dog collar.

However, Kaena laughed and her eyes glanced upward. Vieira did not break a smile, finding it cruel to laugh at her misfortune. At least, she decided, the woman got a laugh and was overall happy. Except something was wrong and Kaena was joking? The amount of emotions Vieira went through in such a short span of time was enough to make her heart race. Even if she was joking, she was going to use it but changed her mind a minute later. Her ears fell back against her head and she closed her eyes, looking at the ground in emotional frustration and tried to find a good place for her to settle. Vieira could not tell whether or not she was going to use it at all and so she remained silent.

Vieira heaved a long breath of relief when her praise was given and the only thing she found herself doing was thumping her tail on the ground and her fingers lacing together in her lap.

The silver-furred coyote peered at the other canine, her yellowy eye narrowing as she regarded Vieira. There was no laughter radiating from Kaena any longer, but she still found it rather amusing that the girl had taken her jesting literally and returned with a collar and chain. Perhaps the threat of punishment had kept the other canine obedient; in Viera's mind maybe it was worse for her to disobey a command rather than take the chance that Kaena was in fact joking. She seemed to stiffen at the possibility of wearing the collar and being loped to the chain, something which caused the hybrid's smile to return, dancing faintly on her lips for a moment. When that threat had passed Viei seemed to relax, finding the hybrid's praise worth a tailwag or two. The hybrid was pleased with this display; it was almost comforting to know that her words alone could serve as a source of pleasure for another living being.

The coyote once more considered the blankets, nodding to Viei. "You keep two. I'm sure you're cold at night," she said, stating rather than questioning the other canine—the hybrid felt the chill of the outside world, and she assumed it permeated all corners of her dwelling. The alcove was perhaps better suited for winter since it did not present a direct opening to the outside world, instead facing the rest of the cave. Its small size also meant that body heat was better distributed, but these facts hadn't passed Kae's knowledge; if they had perhaps she would have sought that as her own bedding area when she'd first settled into the cave. It had been summer season back then, though, and the last thought on the hybrid's mind was the weather. She had been infinitely more interested in seeing her family again.

Vieira leaned forward with her new instructions and held the blankets by her kneeling form. "Thank you, miss Kaena" she said quietly and she pulled them close and to her side, opposite of the chain and collar. The slave wondered what to do with them now as Kaena took her blankets and left everything else at her disposal. Her eyes turned and she looked at the candles and matches. The woman reached forward and began to straighten them out, set them neatly by each other in order to make them look nice before she put them in a proper place.

"What would you like me to do with the rest?" she asked and found it was the safest thing for all of them. It was not directed on the chain and collar and instead everything else as a whole. She would have to find a place to store them and the woman did not want to put them where they did not belong or where Kaena would not want them.

The coyote woman nodded in response to the thanks, another faint smile darting across her face. It was difficult to dislike Vieira when everything she spoke was perfect politeness, when she completed every task the grizzled hybrid commanded wonderfully. The coyote woman once more considered her good fortune in Eris sending the coyote here. The sable-furred canine was a mystery; she had abandoned her mother for dead and Vieira had not come with an explanation for that act, merely an apology. It was Kae's first instinct to distrust Viei and everything she said, but if the other canine had been sent here with another motive or a hidden purpose, Kaena could sense nothing of it. After all, they were living together in rather tight quarters, and anytime Kaena wanted she could have stuck her head in Viei's dwelling and checked over it, just to make sure the smaller canine was hiding nothing.

The Quintus spoke, and the silver-furred hybrid looked over at her and the items she'd scrounged from the city. "Pass the candles and the matches here, hm? Two blankets, too. The rest of it you can put on the outer shelf or something, I suppose," the hybrid said, eyeing the chain and collar for a moment. The chain was slightly rusty, but the collar was in pretty good shape, it seemed. The spare blanket was for someone else who needed it—the coyote did not know how well Rikka had settled into her cave, and she worried about Razekiel. He was thin; perhaps he would do well to receive a random gift? The problem there, however, was that the silver-furred canine had no idea where exactly Razekiel had taken up residence. In a moment the hybrid wished she'd instructed Vieira to bring back an entire boatload of blankets for all of Inferni, for she worried about all of them—except for perhaps Halo and Cotl, who no-doubt were well-prepared to the cold season with their insulated rooms and ample resources inside of the mansion.

Kaena only spoke of the blankets, candles, and matches and then the rest somewhere else. Her jaw tightened and she moved to grab two blankets from the other pile and stood, putting the candles and matches on top of the blankets and folding them inside so when she handed it over, it would not go anywhere. Her body was straightened and she easily handed the items Kaena requested over before she stepped back and busied herself with the rest of the tasks. The extra blankets she folded into smaller squares so they would be neater and easily accessible.

Vieira turned and picked up the small jars of dried herbs and the seed packets, holding them and the blankets as she moved to the ground and neatly stacked everything in place and lined up nicely so she knew exactly what the were. The seeds she did select were put behind the respected herb and she frowned because she did not have them all.

The woman turned back around empty handed and moved awkwardly toward the chain and collar. It was evident she was tense and she did her best to not look at her owner as she picked them up. She attempted to pick them up silently but they clang together until her second hand reached them and gripped them in order to silence it. It did little as she began to back up in order to put them on the shelf as well.

The hybrid watched as the coyote straightened the items out, folding the blankets neatly and placing the other things on top for convenience. Kae thought this was rather smart; in a role reversal the silvery hybrid might have just passed the items over one by one. Smirking, she took the package and turned to place the candles and matches on her own shelf, inhaling the scents of one of them. It seemed to have a particular flavor, though it was soft and the silver-furred coyote could not identify it at first. The others were unscented, or their scent had faded with the years—she could not tell. Rolling the scented one in her hand, she took the matches back on second thought, striking one with nimble fingers and holding it to light the candle. The scent did not seem to increase in power or become too pungeant, but instead radiated outward from the candle, a pleasant odor filling the cave. Kae wrinkled her nose and turned back to glance at Vieira was she brought the collar and chain back, obviously unnerved by their presence. The silvery hybrid almost regretted that the other canine had decided to take the words literally, but not so much that she'd go and chuck the items in to the ocean or anything. "Maybe you'd like to model that collar for me now, hm?" she suggested, lifting an eyebrow as she peered at Viei, amusement still present in her scarred features. This was not as much of a joke as the suggestion to bring the collar; the hybrid figured they might as well get some use out of it. The silver-furred hybrid wanted to see what it looked like on the slighter-framed coyote, sans chain—perhaps Viei should wear it at all times to remind her of who was her master.

Her luck only went so far while trying to keep the clanging to a minimum. Her entire body froze when Kaena began to speak, ready for instruction, but in this moment she wished she had gotten the joke beforehand and not brought them all together. Her eyes sized the items in her hand and she did her best to stifle the frustrated sigh and only let out a slow breath. Her thin fingers separated the items and she lowered to the ground to drop the chain close to the cave wall. Her back was to Kaena for the moment as she looked at the collar, trying to figure out how it worked with hoops on both ends. They would not go through one another and slowly, she tried to pull the links through the hole in order to form an actually collar.

The result was in her favor and she lifted it, spread, and over her muzzle and head, dropping it across her neck. The metal was cold and she felt it through the fur of her neck. She lingered faced away from the woman for a moment longer before her hands dropped to her side and she faced the woman, defeat in her posture as she stared at the ground that met Kaena's feet. She thought of Eris and her neglect, leaving her chained outside for too long without care. It had been rough and part of her could not imagine this woman doing the same but her expectations were always cut short when she became too comfortable.

The coyote's eyes were on the other canine's back, studying the womanly curve of it. The silver-furred woman had no true idea how old Vieira was, and by Kaena's estimation she was barely past two. Still, there was an undeniable curve to her hips, accented by the tawny-furred canine's slight form and thinness. Kae thought Vieira had put on a pound or two since her arrival in Inferni, but she did not know for sure. She'd been a skinny little thing upon first arriving, and the silver-furred hybrid's attempts to feed her had not increased her weight greatly. The hybrid considered this vaguely as she listened to the tawny canine fiddle with the collar, the slight clanking noise as she looped the chain through the hole and slid it over her head.

The ash-furred canid inhaled as Vieira turned around, and it was not until several moments later she realized she held that same breath, her eye drawn to the sharp silver around the other canine's neck. The chain hung heavily in her fur, the silvery metal glinting faintly in the sunlight filtering through the cave. A vague sort of excitement rushed at Kaena, distant and dim, as if there were a perforated wall between her consciousness and this rush of emotion, allowing some of it to slip through but not nearly all of it.

The hybrid's yellowy eye sized up the other canine once more, sliding from the woman's neck and down over her shoulders, lingering for a moment on her hips, traveling up and down the other canine's legs. It was an appreciative look, and a disconcerting sense of arousal flooded the hybrid. "It suits you," she said, but her voice was not even the slightest bit derisive—instead Kae's voice sounded thick, as if choked with smoke.

There was a lingering silence after she had turned around and stood there. She felt she had no direction and could not tell what Kaena was doing. Her jaw was tight the entire time, tense, and her hands were balled up in awkward fists. She had nothing else to do with them. Vieira did not know what to do as she stood there, she had no idea how to "model." Being sexy was not necessarily a requirement with her former owners. She didn't have to do anything to spark their desire to do what they wanted. Occasionally she was molded to fit situations but it rarely stuck and it showed as she stood, still as ever, and waited.

It suits you. Vieira mentally scoffed at the words but her outer appearance did not change. Of course it suited her. She was a slave and this was nothing she was used to. Her first two owners had not done this to her but Eris had and she quickly realized and learned what these sort of things were used for. She could not remember who told her but she remembered the information and it stuck with her. It was simply a matter of ownership and Vieira knew nothing else because outside her owner, everything was meaningless.

The silvery coyote was not blind to the symbolism of the collar; perhaps that was what had drawn her eye so much. It seemed to make Vieira prettier, the fact that the collar was definitive evidence that she was Kaena's property. It was far different from friendship or even motherhood, for there was nothing Kaena could (or would) do to stop her children from leaving or hurting her. Vieira was restricted to acting when Kaena told her to act; she could not leave unless the ash-furred canid directed her to. This was strangely comforting to the silvery hybrid, and for a fleeting moment she wanted to ask Vieira to come closer, come here—but her mouth remained shut, and the silvery-hybrid still and quiet, her golden eye still roving the slight figure of the other canine, silent approval radiating from her. It was a long moment as the hybrid watched, her raptors' gaze drawn to the chain-collar again and again.

She shook her head suddenly, as if a trance had been snapped, and smiled faintly at the other canine. "You don't like it," the coyote said with a smirk, observing the girl's balled fists and uncertain expression. That was a given; the coyote did not have to ask why. The reason was clear; Viei was more aware of the symbolism behind the collar than the Centurion, after all. Still, Kae wondered how Vieira might react to that statement—was it worse to lie or disagree? The coyote watched for the other canine's reaction, mischievousness sparkling in her single remaining eye. Perhaps this was another sort of test or just an excuse to berate her—either way Vieira might figure she was wrong, and that conundrum the Quintus might face gave the silvery hybrid some faint amusement, the ghost of a smile showing in her raised lip, showing just the tips of her dangerous yellow fangs.

Vieira's expression did not change when Kaena spoke again. Her eyes were still on their location of the hybrid's feet but she took a moment to answer. She was given perhaps a trick or test of character. The slave hated these sorts of things, a play in words that could give her punishment if it was not satisfactory enough for any of her owners. Over the years and several punishments, she learned ways to get out of it unless they continued to pressure her in order to break her and abuse her out of fun. It was the worse, knowing she had done nothing wrong, exactly, and still being punished for whatever it was.

She inhaled a long breath and blinked. "You like it," she said carefully and her muzzle lowered slowly to touch her chest. "It suits me," she repeated without really having an answer. While she did not like this, that was not what mattered. It was what Kaena liked. Vieira would wear the collar and eventually it would become less heavy and she would barely notice its presence. The woman was more worried about being chained up somewhere on her own rather than the collar but this was simply the first step.

The silver-furred hybrid considered the other canine, her yellowy eye focused on the shining metal looped about her neck. The symbolic nature of the chain and Vieira's septum piercing was not lost on Kaena; if she had been more educated she might have realized the similarity between Vieira's shining silver ring and the ones they placed in the nose of bulls to better control them. Vieira hardly needed that kind of rough treatment; the tawny-furred canine was meek enough to be under control of her own volition, and the silvery Centurion had come to realize that. She didn't need anything to keep her as she was; her mind did a damn good job of that, thanks to the indoctrination she'd received as a younger canine.

The slighter coyote spoke again, and Kaena's sharp-featured head tilted to peer over at the other canine, listening for the careful response to the barbed question. There was no real "right" answer to the question Kaena had asked, but the hybrid's respone toed around actually answering, instead proposing Kaena was the one to enjoy the collar, coupled with a cautious agreement with the phrase the Centurion herself had spoken. The coyote was not surprised by the other canine's intelligence; there was no doubt she was experienced responding to questions to which there was no real correct answer.

The coyote considered for a moment, realizing she very much liked the collar. Still, it was apparent to her that it granted a certain amount of discomfort to the other canine. This caused a stirring of conflicted morality within the hybrid, half of her wanting to order Vieira never to take the thing off, the other wanting to tell her to remove it immediately. Hesitantly, the hybrid spoke. "You can take it off," she said, feeling strangely improper for enjoying the look of the metal looped around the other canine's neck. It was a strange thing to find attractive, to be certain, and the ash-furred coyote appeared troubled for a moment, her golden eye reflecting some vague inner conflict.

Kaena's words surprised her and she relaxed her hands to her side, her fingers tapping into her thighs as she relaxed. She did not know why the other did not want it on her or why she even asked to put it on but Vieira's hands lifted and, with only a little difficulty against how small it was, pulled it over her head. Her ears formed above her head and she looked at the metal that was warm from her flesh. She let it fall into her hand and it was no longer looped, having slid through one of the hoops and become just one long chain.

Vieira turned and picked up the chain on the floor and placed them both on the shelf that was eye level with her. They were neatly placed, apart from each other, and for a moment her golden eyes watched them and she imagined them disappearing all of a sudden. Slowly, the slave backed away from the wall after making sure everything was neat and in place. Her fists balled again but relaxed, only to do it again when she realized how cold her fingers were and it was simply a tactic to cause a quicker blood flow. She moved back to the center, picked up her blankets, and placed them in the small room of her own.

The silver-furred hybrid watched with her single glowing eye as the other canine removed the chain, drawing it over her sharp-featured face, allowing it to fall through to a straight chain once more, jingling softly in the otherwise quiet cave. The other canine picked up the larger chain, a different tone of noise echoing through their dwelling, and placed them both neatly up on the jagged shelves. They were hardly perfectly flat, nowhere near as flat as her bedding area, but they did not slope outwards to the center of the cave, and they would hold whatever Kaena or Vieira placed there. The silver-furred woman's interest was caught as the other canine seemed physically bothered by the presence of the chains, her fists clamping up once more, her eyes lingering for too long on the objects before she ducked into her own alcove, placing her new blankets in the smaller room for use later.

The grizzled hybrid's single eye was drawn to the objects herself, studying the links of thicker, rusted chain and the small collar. Her sable ears folded back and she almost wanted to tug the spare blanket over them to hide them for the moment. The coyote twisted her head toward Vieira, peering at the tawny-furred canine for a moment before she scooted backwards on her bed, her spine lying straight against the curved rear wall of the cave, open space behind her neck and head where her own private shelf was. "Do you want to come and sit up here with me?" she asked. There was something different in the hybrid woman's tone, her very wording—this was not a command, but a genuine question directed toward the other canine. Certainly if refused, the silver-furred Centurion would receive some degree of offense, but still, she had offered the other coyote a choice.

Vieira knelt against the cool floor. The two other blankets she had were neatly placed on the floor. The thickest was on the floor to prevent the cold rising and the smaller on top. With the two new blankets, it would definitely help as the months became colder. She drew in a long breath and unfolded the two, placing them on top. She even folded one up as a pillow and neatly left it there. If it did not help with warmth, she would unravel it to use it on top of her. For now, it looked nice, and she ran her hand over it with a smile. After this, she did not know what to do, and for a moment she lingered there and stared around her room.

Her thoughts were answered when Kaena spoke and her head turned to look out in that direction. The question made her stiffen and she began to stand and exit her small room. "Okay," she said quietly. It was not necessarily a "yes" or "no" but the woman stressed her out enough already with things like this and Vieira had nothing else to do at the moment. The only thing she worried about was the closeness and the fact it was a bed Kaena asked about. She made a last look to her bedroom in order to make sure everything was neat and turned toward the bed.

Vieira made her way up, climbing the short incline and settling herself a few feet away from Kaena. If she could distance herself as much as possible, she would, and for now this was as comfortable as she could make herself. Her legs drew up into her, crossing over into an Indian fashion and her hands were clasped together by her feet while her eyes found something to focus on.

The silvery hybrid watched as Vieira emerged slowly from her smaller room, trotting out into the lighter areas of the cave. The hybrid glanced into the shadow of the other canine's dwelling, tilting her head to the side as her eyes assessed the relative gloom in the alcove. She considered for a moment, and glanced at her supply of candles. There were enough now to sustain them for a while, and as she swiveled her head back to the other canine clambering up onto the bed, she spoke. "You can take a candle, if you want. You'll be able to play with your toys at night, then," the hybrid said. She hadn't given Vieira the permission for matches, but she figured that was a given&8212;what use was a candle without a borrowed match, after all?

The hybrid peered at her new bedmate, golden eye staring quizzically as she tried to determine how Vieira was feeling at that moment. There was distance between the two of them, clearly placed between their bodies, as if at any moment Vieira might bolt and run back to her own space. There was clear discomfort present in the other canine, but the silver-furred hybrid had no underlying motive now; this was simply the best place to sit in this part of the cave, and she wanted to be on the same level as Vieira to converse with her open and honestly. If she was elevated above the other canine, it conveyed a quite clear sense of who was dominant and who was submissive without so much as a twitch from the ear, head, or tail.
