Marik had kept himself busy the past few days. And it wasn’t really acquainting himself with the land as he should. Sure, he took a couple of trips to Halifax on his brother’s suggestion but he hadn’t done much else. He hadn’t even gotten through the mansion yet. All he had seen of that was the straight shoot from the front door and up the stairs then down the hall to his brother’s room. That was the one room that he had learned the layout of. And it was thanks to his brother that he had gotten that far at least. Cotl had been sort of clingy the past few days. But he couldn’t blame it all on his brother that he hadn’t gotten out and about. He knew that he should but his mind had been kept busy with other thoughts. He had been thinking of how to make himself useful now that his brother didn’t really need him. At least not in the way that he had back in Germany. Cotl fitted in here and had all the friends. Marik had no one but his brother. The other coyote that he had met in Inferni he had scared off. Not such a good thing for him. Especially since it turned out to be his brother’s friend. A friend he was allowed to look at but not touch. And actually he wasn’t really allowed to look either. Life had been better back in Germany for Marik. But Cotl had requested that he stay here, with him. And should Marik hint at going back home then Cotl would cling to him and beg him to stay, make him promise to stay and not leave him alone. So because he felt out of place, uncertain of his worth now that his older brother didn’t need saving anymore, he had been spending a lot of time reassuring his brother. And to think that Marik had come with the intentions in mind to take his brother back to Germany so that he could watch over him again. But he couldn’t do that now. Not with Cotl being happy to be here. Not when his sibling had finally found a place where he fitted in. Such a thing had never taken place in Germany, not for Cotl.

Marik had told his brother that he was taking off and headed out of the mansion. He still hadn’t found out what the other hybrid did while he wasn’t around but it wasn’t too big of a concern. Maybe one day he would ask his brother what he did. Maybe when he finally finished his present and presented it to him. Actually it was that present that had drawn him out and away from the mansion. That present that had him disappearing into the forest yet again. But then again he always traveled through the forest to get anywhere. It just sort of surrounded the mansion after all. Which really was a good cover for Marik. He wanted this gift to be a surprise. So it wouldn’t be weird at all if his brother happened to notice him heading out through the forest. But he wasn’t about to leave the forest either. He had managed to find a quiet little spot near a creek. The area had provided everything that he needed for the present without Marik really having to travel to get all of the things that he needed. Well, aside from tools. He had find a sharp rock but had traded it in for the knife he had obtained in Halifax since the rock just damaged the skins and made it so that he couldn’t end up using them. And the other thing was a large abalone shell that he had found on the beach when he had arrived. The shell was great for scraping down the hide. But other than those two things he had everything he needed right in the forest. It was just a matter of gathering them and making them into working items. And well, Marik was good with his hands and had managed such a thing.

Right now the skin was tied up between a couple of trees. He had scraped it down already and was waiting for it the dry some. He had caught and skinned the rabbit when he had first gotten to Inferni. The hide had been soaking for three days and today he had finally gotten to work on it. He was glad that the weather was working with him. He just hoped that it would hold out for the rest of the time. Just long enough for him to finish it up so he could give it to his brother. He just needed a couple more days. But yes, he had soaked it in water for three days and night and had finally tied it up today and scraped it down as best as he could. Marik had even managed to catch a rabbit that was close enough in color to him. The fur was a mix of gray and white, the rabbit having been in the middle of changing coat colors when the coyote hybrid had come across it. Once the hide was dry enough so that he could see if he had missed anything he would check over it before letting it soak in the mixture of brains and water. Actually he had just added the brains of the rabbit that he had saved to the water. Which was it was a good thing he had found the place by the creek. And it was luck that it had a rock formation that allowed him the ability to soak his hide in. The rock was deep enough to act as a bowl but wasn’t too large for him to move around so that he could spill out the old water and put in clean water when he had to.

Marik had taken up a place with his back rested against one of the trees that the hide was tied between. His head tilted so that he could glance up at it to check it out but it was still too dark to tell anything just yet. If he couldn’t tell soon then he would just have to trust his judgment and let it soak once again so that he could get to actual work on stretching it and softening it, and hopefully even smoking it, tomorrow. If he could get all of that done, especially the smoking part, then he could sew it up and give it to his brother when he headed in for the night. He hoped his brother would cherish the doll that Marik had taken all of the time and effort to make for him. Well, he was pretty certain that Cotl would like it, even if he wouldn’t outright say so. But he planned on trimming his winter coat enough to be able to stuff it with. And also that way his brother would be able to carry around something close to a mini Marik with him always. He meant for it to soothe his brother’s anxieties. To let his brother know that he would always be with him in one form or another.

So unable to do anything with the hide right now Marik worked on another project instead. Or not really a project. It was just something to do to pass the time. Like how the first night he had cooked the rabbit meat and dried it to make jerky so that it would last and wouldn’t go bad. Sure, he could have just eaten the rabbit then and there but he knew that the process would take days, nearly a week give or take a few days, and so he wanted something to snack on during that time. Hence the jerky. He had rested the meat strips on the rim of his rock bowl, one piece having been chewed on and a couple of others still whole. But right now his attention wasn’t on the jerky but what he held in his hands. What he was working on again made his glad that he had found a set of knives. He had selected a smaller one for the task and saved the bigger ones for skinning. After all he wanted to do something with deer when they were more abundant again in the spring. But for now he was fine with the rabbit he was turning into the doll.

And in his hands the piece of wood that he was widdling away at. It had started out as nothing but a short, fat stick. He didn’t even have an idea in mind when he had started on it but now it was shaping into something. Realizing he wouldn’t need all of the stick he broke away a portion of it and dropped the unused part to the ground beside him. He could use it if he messed up. At least that was the thought that he had in mind for it. But for now he worked on finishing carving out the hole that he had made in the small round piece of wood. But it looked so plain and had the hybrid frowning. It looked like a piece of stick with a hole in it. So he started to shave away the outer layer of bark from around the outside of the ring that way he would have a smooth surface upon which to put some sort of design work on. Maybe just simple scroll work? Or perhaps an ivy like design? He had no idea what yet. Just anything to make it not look so plain anymore.

Omg I am going to be so burnt out after this SoSu thing. XD Word Count: 1187

Inferni was growing. The clan had nearly doubled in membership over the past month and a half. This was strange to Kaena, for she recalled just before this influx of new coyotes that the clan's numbered had hovered around just ten. Her pride had been no less in the clan then, for of course, of that ten there were four invariably dependable, hardcore Infernians—that meant Gabriel, herself, Anselm, and Hybrid. This quartet of coyotes were the clan's breathing and beating heart, it would seem. That center was always growing and expanding to include new coyotes, and others were quite close to it—Snake and Cotl were wriggling their way closer. There was also Halo, the Centurion's granddaughter, who had worked her way all the way to the Hydra rank of the clan, charged with protecting the Legatus ranks alone. It was not merely for her killing stroke that had taken the life of Bastardo, the loner wolf who had desecrated their borders and pranced across their perimeter, Kaena knew.

Halo had the same kind of strength that her grandmother possessed, the very same hard streak that had likely enabled Kaena to survive these long years. The cinnamon-furred girl was destined for great things; it was written into her very blood. Her father might have betrayed them all, but that did not mean that Halo would act in the same way Vitium once had. The hybrid often wondered what had gone through her dark-eyed son's head. He had saved the life of the trespassing Aremys wolf, denouncing his mother and brothers, his very existence in Inferni, in a speech meant to save the wolf, but it had earned him exile. Were it not for his blood connection to the Aquila at the time, he would have earned his death that day. Kaena understood that part well enough, but it was when she came to his children that the timeline ceased to be sensible.

The silver-furred hybrid had not been present for these events, but from what she had gleaned off of others, Vitium had raped one Colibri—the very same Colibri Kaena had met years prior—and she had three children. Enigma, Jael, and Halo. Enigma was a strange soul, to say the least, but Kaena had only met him very briefly before he'd taken off. She lamented this fact, wishing she could have known her kin longer before he struck out into the great big world. Jael was tormented, aware that he was coyote but with all outward appearances of a wolf, meaning he was unlikely to ever be accepted by either side. In her heart, Kaena knew his best chances for happiness likely lay in forgetting Inferni ever existed, but she would never have spoken those words to him. She valued Jael too much, and perhaps with the right attitude he could find purpose in Inferni yet, if he returned someday. Halo was the only one of this trio still remaining in Inferni, the shining light of that litter.

Vitium had stolen these children when they were some months old, perhaps old enough to remember their mother but not clearly, and he'd given them what seemed to Kaena to be a proper Inferni education. He had told them much about the coyote clan, though he rather neglected to mention that he'd been thrown out on his ass for being a traitor. That had been a rather big bombshell to the three young Lykoi children, Kaena was sure. She could not figure out a possible motive for Vitium neglecting to mention his own banishment while preaching what seemed to have been the truth about the coyote clan. These thoughts plagued her in the late afternoon up and into the night, and finally, when she could not stand to be alone with her own head anymore, the hybrid left the cave, hurrying quickly onward. Her coyote trot carried her rather swiftly toward the border, intending to perhaps loop around once before she attempted sleep again. Usually border duty helped with that sort of thing; it was one more monotonous task from which Kaena could expect nothing new. Still, the hybrid woman knew it was a responsibility, and she had done so poorly at her duties over the past months, she was now determined to make up for it.

Since telling Gabriel about what had happened to her, there was a strange weight lifted from her chest, a sort of calm that had filled in. There was still something wrong inside, of course, but the silver-furred Centurion's strength had begun to return. Wounds such as the ones she had incurred might take years to heal, but Kaena Lykoi was a strong coyote, and she would return full force eventually. It was all a question of time. Kaena had suffered through plenty in her time; this was no better or worse than anything else she had experienced in life. There would always be attempts to knock her from her pedestal and drag her through the mud, but she would not let them. No one could ruin her, not Haku, nor anyone else. There was strength yet in her old bones, and this small return of confidence had lifted the hybrid's spirits slightly. Her step came quite a bit quicker, and before long she found herself wandering through the forested area of Inferni, veering off toward the mansion. It was rare for her to start a jaunt around the border from this central point, but she had time to kill and she didn't mind doubling back for part of the journey.

As luck would have it, there was something—rather, someone—to distract her from duty, after all. As much as Kaena had neglected a Centurion's responsibilities, the sight of a strange coyote smelling vaguely of Cotl sitting in the woods watching a hide dry was far too interesting to pass up. Besides, she was already unknowingly within sight and sound of the other canine, and it would be downright rude to simply keep walking. Anselm had passed her by some days ago, mentioning some crazy joiner who claimed to be Cotl's brother, and when Cotl beckoned for her attention, the hybrid woman had merely answered his howl with one of her own, figuring if it was the Imaginifer's very sibling desiring entrance to the clan, she couldn't very well turn him down anyway. Still, when Anselm had said he was crazy, she was expecting someone a bit more like Cotl himself—the placid, gray and white furred wolf she was presently approaching was not shouting, twitching, or even constantly in motion as the other canine seemed to be. Indeed, he seemed pretty damn normal to her. A faint smile appeared on the hybrid woman's face, and she nodded a greeting to him. "You must be Cotl's brother," the silver-furred woman stated as she entered the clearing, her yellowed eye peering curiously at the hide that he was stretching. She couldn't smell a particular animal scent from it, and she wondered what he'd treated it with to keep it from smelling just like the animal it once had kept warm.

Marik had his own subtle ticks. Things that could easily pass in society until they were noticed, then he would be rejected. Like the constant flirting and hinting would have him deterred away from. Or worse, the sudden and unprovoked mood changes. Luckily those didn’t plague him too often. Or at least not around those that weren’t his brother. His brother got the brunt of the craziness but hadn’t sought to be rid of him yet. But then again he had always accepted his brother’s ticks. So of course it made him glad that others had learned to accept Cotl’s strange behaviors. But it also had him slightly worried. What did it mean for him? Back in Germany he was the only one that Cotl had. And now? Well Cotl had friends here and Marik just didn’t feel as needed as he had been. Cotl had rank and Marik was a nobody. Cotl left him every morning to go and do who knows what. It really wasn’t that fun of a feeling. He just felt so left out. He used to be his brother’s everything and now he felt not needed in the slightest. Yet Cotl wouldn’t let him leave. Cotl wanted him around still and so he was here. While they had already had this argument before he still didn’t understand. Marik had lost his purpose in life. So why did Cotl want him here if he wasn’t really needed. His slightly older brother had friends now to feel the void that Marik had filled in Germany. After all Marik had came because he thought that Cotl would need him. But he found out that wasn’t true once he had gotten here.

They’d had another argument just last night and so he wanted to get this doll done as quickly as possible. Wanted to show that no matter how much he complained about wanting to go back to Germany that he would always be here for his brother should Cotl ever need him. Though he wasn’t even certain that his brother would like it. This wasn’t exactly a talent that he had shared with the other. It wasn’t like he got to mess with it too much back in Germany. Not with his parents expecting so much from him all the time. He was always expected to train. To be the best. But he didn’t care for the training. Didn’t care for learning to fight. Fighting just wasn’t his thing. He didn’t share his parents prejudices. If he did then he would have never would have came after his brother. Just because Cotl has something obviously wrong with him their parents had shunned him. He didn’t agree with that. It wasn’t Cotl’s fault so he didn’t see why his brother should have been forced to leave. That alone had him questioning a lot of their beliefs. And had him honoring hardly any of them. He didn’t judge others because he had seen the effect that it had on his brother. In Germany it had Cotl locked away from the world which led to him being socially inadequate. That alone made Marik feel that most everyone else’s afflictions were something out of their control. Or else they stemmed from some sort of mistreatment. Either way he wasn’t about to hold that against them. And that possibly made him different from the other coyotes here as well. Not just by looks, having gotten more of his mother traits, but in temperament as well. He wasn’t on the whole ‘I hate wolves’ bandwagon. He was more like one of those ‘free love’ type. But still he knew how to function in a clan and how to follow orders.

He looked up as he heard the approach of another. Gaze landed on an older female and head took on a slight tilt of curiosity. He had no idea who she was but he could hazard a guess. His brother had mentioned something about a female leader. He would guess that this was her. Especially since she brought up his brother’s name as she approached. “Ja, Marik.” His German heritage was obvious as he spoke, the accent strong in his voice. But then again it wasn’t like he had been away from the country for too long. At least not long enough for the accent to wear off, if it ever would. It was certainly doubtful but who knew, it might become subdued the longer he stayed in this other country. “You are the leader that Cotl mentioned?” He couldn’t exactly recall a name being given at the moment but new there was a male one and a female one. And if he was right then it was the female that had allowed his brother in. “The one that did the skull, right?” He believed that was right. Believed that is what he had been told. If so then she had done good work. After all Marik could appreciate an artistic eye. He should since he wore his brother’s art all over his body. And no doubt would end up with even more. His brother just had this habit of always drawing on him, especially after they had gotten messed up together.

Noticing that the female’s attention was focused on the hide he glanced at it before looking back to her. “It is going to be used to make a doll after it has dried.” He explained, not exactly sure what question it was that was going through her mind. Actually he wasn’t even sure if she understood just what he was talking about even. After all he wasn’t certain just what sorts of things they did here. If there were any others with crafting know how or what not. Or if they were just like his father and only concentrated on fighting skills. “I still have to soak it another day before I can actually work on it.” He spoke up as he went back to working on the ring that was in his hands currently. He frowned a bit as he stared down at it. He still wasn’t happy with it though it had provided him with something to do. But he had worked on it as much as possible and still he felt it was missing something. He mentally shrugged it off and handed it up to the female. “Do you want this?”

No worries at all! ♥ 489

Now that she could clearly see the other canine, the similarities were remarkable. This coyote had the same oddly-colored eyes as Cotl, the brilliant red and blue all mixed into one. Kaena had never seen anything quite like it before; she had seen red and blue, but always separately, never together. The German coyotes' eyes were particularly striking because they were so unique, Kaena thought, and she offered this canine a half-smile. There were other similarities, too; this canine seemed to have numerous piercings and tattoos, just as his brother did. The hybrid seemed to recall Cotl saying something about using his brother for a lot of practice; this must have been what he meant.

The hybrid was interested in the strange hide, her single golden eye seeking his as he spoke. She nodded to his introduction. Marik. So this hybrid was Cotl's brother, after all. It would seem that the Imaginifer had spoken to Marik about her, too, though Kaena did wonder if this was out of his personal liking for her or the fact that she was a leader. She was no panjandrum; she performed her duties well and did not overinflate her position within the clan, but the hybrid was not blind to the Cotl's attraction to her. She figured that was his general demeanor—some were simply more sexual than others. At the moment, Kaena was practically frigid, and she did not know if she could withstand another man's touch. She nodded to the Praeses' question. "Kaena Lykoi," she said, introducing herself. The question regarding the tattoo prompted a grin from the silver-furred woman, and she seemed to take a little bit of embarrassment from it. "That was me, yes," she said, secretly pleased with her own work. She'd never done anything but the Chaos stars prior to that skull, and she was extremely happy that she'd been able to experiment.

The canine's interest was piqued by the idea of creating a doll; she assumed it took quite a level of skill, as she had no idea where to even begin with such a project. "That will take some effort, I imagine," she said, tilting her head to the side. "How will you put it together?" she asked, curious to know how such a thing could come together. He had something else, too, and after a moment he'd presented it to her, perhaps as a token of friendship. The hybrid woman smiled, for she was particularly fond of gifts, and she nodded, leaning in closer to inspect the object. She didn't want to reach up and snatch; Marik appeared to be working on the object still, and the coyote nodded her head enthusiastically. "Yes, I like it," she said, still with the half-smile on her face. "You are a craftsman, I take it?" It would make sense; Cotl seemed to be quite able to work with his hands, and perhaps it ran in the family.

Ah yes, the eyes were what really marked them as being brothers. That was their common factor, besides the accents. And perhaps the lack of height could be considered as well. And maybe even all of the adornment, all of the piercings and tattoos could be a deciding factor in making them appear similar as well. But other than that Cotl looked remarkably more coyote than Marik did. But that was something that he had just gotten used to. Marik had gotten used to his heritage being unable to be guessed right off. It really didn’t bother him anymore. He would just let others come to their own conclusions unless he should be asked directly. And mostly others decided upon what he must be on their own. Actually he couldn’t remember the last time that he had been asked. If he had ever been asked even. He couldn’t remember. Maybe everyone had just assumed what he was.

But yes, his brother had done all of his work. Though most of it had been done while he had been passed out. And still others were of Cotl’s own suggestion and just had Marik laying still for. But the one placed at his throat was the one that Marik had asked for himself. It was quite simple compared to the others that he had. But he had chosen it for the meaning rather than for the design. It simply meant well being and good fortune. That was just how Marik liked to consider himself. Because of this he wore the design proudly. Has asked for it to be put in a place where everyone was sure to see it. And of the piercings he had Marik had requested the one at the base of his tail. It was these two that were his newest, having gotten them right after arriving and were of his own choosing. It had been his way of bonding with his brother after having been separated for so long. It had also been Cotl’s promise to him, used to calm him down during their fight.

If Marik had been told that she imagined Cotl had spoken of her because of showing that he liked her then he would have laughed. His brother was too much of a prude to like anyone. Or so the boy thought. Marik hadn’t seen where his brother had expressed any interest in anyone. So it was impossible for him to imagine that his brother may have mentioned her because he had a crush on her. He had just taken it as him speaking of the leader and nothing more. Or well, to also mention the tattoo since Marik had been interested in that as well since it was something new that his brother had gotten while they were apart. But no, Cotl wasn’t the sexual one. That was Marik. Though right now he had his mind busy on other things. Still he couldn’t help flirting a mild amount. “If you still need more practice than I am available to be worked on. I am quite used to it after all.” After all he was more decorated than his brother was. And if she wanted to put her face down there where Cotl had described it as being then he really wouldn’t mind that one. After all Marik found beauty in all beings. He had a problem with no one. He found himself desiring everyone. It was just a part of who he was.

He was surprised that interest was being shown towards such a menial task. The doll really served no purpose but to act as a promise to his brother. He glanced up to the skin once more before looking back to the female leader. “Well first I have to finish stretching and softening it. That should take another day. Then I can work on actually shaping it. Sinew and bone can be used to sew it together. And I plan on thinning out my winter coat to fill it.” That was the basic run down of what he had planned on doing. He didn’t see it as being anything too spectacular. Nothing to really be praised. “I believe I may have to wait until spring to make anything else. I simply lucked out to find a pleasant week in which to do this in.” He really had lucked out. He didn’t get any sort of precipitation which would have ruined the skin. He couldn’t count on being that lucky through the rest of the winter though. He wasn’t going to risk it. But this was something he felt compelled to do. He had to show his brother that despite their fighting he still cared for him and always would. That he would always be with him one way or another. So to him the doll was a must.

When she said she liked the ring he passed it off to her. “I feel like something is missing from it but I can’t figure out what.” Well, he wasn’t about to lie about it. He just wasn’t happy with it but didn’t know what else to do with it other than scrap it. But perhaps the leader could figure out a use for it. Or perhaps even figure out what was missing from it. But as for him he was completely at a loss. It had just provided him with something to do while he waited. Just something to keep his mind busy while his body was at rest.

But then her words threw him off. Him? A craftsman? He shook his head with a laugh. “Oh no no no. I just dabble a bit here and there.” After all to be a craftsman implied there was a mastery of the task. He certainly wasn’t a master of anything. He just did a bit of this and that. Whatever he felt like at the time. “I just like to learn and play around with knowledge. I wouldn’t say that I have perfected any craft in order to be called a craftsman. Merely just a collector of knowledge that has the ability to do a bit of this and that with some degree of skill.” After all he didn’t like being tied down to any one skill or trade. It was why he had never mastered a single one. He just liked having a working knowledge of everything. That way he could switch what he wanted to do by the mood he was in but still able to accomplish other things as well.

It was true that Marik and Cotl were unique hybrids among the coyotes—perhaps among the packs, as well. The silver-furred canine was not particularly well-versed in the other packs' genetic make-up; she avoided even coquetry with their borders. There were very few things that could spur her to cross canine borders other than Inferni's; the coyote clan was the only place she felt comfortable doing so freely, and in the months between her departure up until her return in June, she would not have even felt secure walking across the borders. No matter who she was, she hadn't been a member of the clan then, and she wouldn't have expeceted any different treatment. His offer was almost strange; it reminded her of the way Vieira was, vaguely. He seemed so nonchalant about his body—perhaps that merely signified comfort in his own skin, though. The hybrid smiled, and nodded her head, unwilling to appear as if she did not appreciate the offer. “Well, if you decide on any new designs and Cotl doesn't mind, of course,” she said with a smile.

The coyote woman listened as he described the process; she did not think she was capable of such things. Her hands were meant for destroying things, not creating them—though it was fitting for Cotl's brother to have such a taste for creation as the tawny canine himself. The silver-furred woman offered a grin, and tilted her head to the side. “I hope the canine who receives it appreciates it,” she said. It seemed like an involved enough process, after all, with numerous personal touches—with the addition of Marik's fur, the doll would always smell a bit like its maker. “Though, you're quite right about the weather. It'll be cold again quite soon,” she said. She was ready for spring and change again—she had enjoyed her snow and cold weather, now it was time to bring about the springtime weather.

“I like it just as it is,” she said, though she knew that could very well be her own lack of design and aesthetic perceptions—she was no artist, after all. “A jack-of-all-trades is good, though. We've got just such a rank like that, actually,” she said, a thoughtful noise coming from her muzzle. Perhaps Marik would enjoy such a rank; he would have to learn about various parts of Inferni without specializing himself in any one area.

Unique? Was that even a fitting word? Perhaps as fitting as any that could be stumbled upon. Perhaps there wasn’t really a word in any known language that could accurately describe and encompass them. Unique would just have to be the one to serve the purpose. It would work well enough until another word could be come up with that would really do the job. And that wasn’t just because they were part dog, certainly others had that. Nor did it have to do with their eyes either. They really couldn’t be the only ones with bi-colored eyes, could they? But perhaps their interactions with one another were what made them unique. They didn’t act like strictly brothers, most of that being Marik’s fault. Still, that is what they were. Brothers and no more than that. They just had a close bond. But then again they had depended on each other alone. They were the only ones to fully and completely understand each other. Or at least they used to. Cotl had changed since they had been in Germany. There were times that Marik felt his brother was a stranger. This country had changed Cotl. Had changed them both. The Ulrich name meant nothing here. There was no popularity or favoritism. Marik had nothing but his brother to rely on now. No friends for him to spend time with. So he had to find ways to bide his time until his brother got back at night to spend time with him. Which was why he was sitting out here in the impending cold and working on a doll as well as a ring. Just something to keep him occupied until nightfall.

He laughed at her words. Clearly word of his exchange with his brother had gotten back to her. Why else would she say such a silly thing? Smiling good naturedly and shaking his head he responded to what she had said. “You don’t have to worry about upsetting him. I’m not his property. We are close but not that close. He won’t allow for it.” He tapped a finger at the scar near his eye in order to explain it all away. Well, there was the scar and the denial imprinted upon his chest. He was willing but his brother wasn’t. But then again Marik was willing for anyone else who was willing. He didn’t discriminate. He would give love to anyone and everyone. But only if they were willing. He might push boundaries with his flirtations and sometimes touches, though mostly only the touches with Cotl, he knew not to cross those boundaries and understood the word no. He just couldn’t help flirting with the line just as his brother couldn’t control the words that came flying out of his mouth. “This is the only one I chose.”” He tapped against the swastika at his throat. “The others Cotl decided on and put on me. Usually after I passed out from drinking. So whatever you decide to do will be okay. That is what Cotl does at least. Works on whatever he needs to practice. You can do the same. I still have space left.” Marik was clearly of the easy going sort. Which probably had been what had made it easy for Cotl to work on him. He simply didn’t care what took place.

He shrugged off her words. He wasn’t even sure if who he was giving it to would even like such a silly little thing. After all the doll didn’t really matter. It was the promise that went with the doll that did. “It’s not for anyone special. Just my brother. We’ve just been fighting lately and I’ve mentioned returning home. It’s just a promise that no matter what I’ll still be with him.” It sounded really silly when said out loud. Especially to someone who probably didn’t know much, or anything at all, about their family history. “I could make you something when it starts to warm up again and prey is plentiful. Just think about it and let me know.” After all he could probably manage something larger than a doll. He just had to have enough cured skin with which to create it, seeing as a single skin only stretched so much before losing its integrity, with which to create whatever came to mind. Just a simple design was all he needed to work off of. Something to visualize and he could probably come up with something close if not exact. But he wasn’t about to make any guarantees or anything. He would just do his best was all. It was really all that anyone could possibly offer. The exact same went for him.

“Well, so long as you are happy with it I guess.” Still he couldn’t help but feel as if something was missing. But that could be only him. Especially since he couldn’t come up with what was missing either. It was just something that felt off and he couldn’t express it. But she was happy with it and so he wasn’t going to worry too much about it. Maybe after he did a bit more research eh would figure out what he felt was off with it. For now the design was from his own head instead of a mimic of something else that he had seen. “You know, I never really thought of it like that. I just didn’t want to be tied down to doing only one thing. There is still so much to learn and try. I just never wanted to be known for only being able to do one thing and one thing only.” And as for the rank, he didn’t realize there was such a thing. He has always assumed that having a rank like his brother had limited them to only one task. But a rank that encompasses just what he felt, who knew? But Marik could probably accomplish that. After all he liked to learn things. He certainly planned on continuing to learn just as much as he could about everything that he could.
