The moon hung in the winter’s clear sky. Round and full it glowed through the thin cloud cover, unafraid or deterred by the veil that hung over the atmosphere. It reflected against the soft snow, and called to the female through the paned window. She walked out the door, unable to reject the voice and ignore its message. Silently the huntress stepped off the house’s porch, and into the dunes of drifted snow. She moved effortlessly though weightless powered, and without a second thought she began to travel west. Through the treed landscape, the lake, the mansion to her back Anu wandered almost mindlessly. Her nose lead the way, the rest of her consciousness falling behind allowing the primal instincts take over.

It was more then just the moon that asked her to hunt, her stomach had rumbled gently against its empty state, and for the predator that urge for the chase would rise in her without warning. An itch that needed to be scratched, she found energy copious and sleep a thought miles and miles away. The tawny woman moved fluidly, black nose brushing lightly against the snow. Her ear twitched, taking in the sound of a faint far off rustling. The wolf paused, still for a moment. The scent was not on the wind, the breeze dead for the moment. She worked the air, nose high and moving in a curve in hopes of catching the invisible trail.

In the instant she found it, Anu let her voice ring through the dim night. Her maw tipped backwards and calling for any and every beast that wished to feed. Anu thought not of the dept of night, nor the bitter chill that would capture one that stood still too long. But she wished to move, feel the muscles beneath her silver thick pelt burn and feast beneath the bright moon that sat round faced above them. Her voice carried, low and as it ended low she picked it up once more, blue eyes closing and asking a second time for those that refused to go hungry.

The night called to her once more. The white girl remained motionless by a window of the mansion, her mind awake and her body trembling with anticipation. Perhaps it was the full moon. Perhaps it was the thrill of the night, the thought of the unknown right outside her home. Perhaps the tipping point was watching her mother leave the mansion. Brooklyn hovered uncertainly by the window, watching the other wolf disappear into the night. How long had it been since she'd spoken to her mother? How long had she stayed hidden away, ashamed of the way she had acted? Too long, she decided. It was not something which she should have inflicted on Anu. The wolf deserved so much better.

Shrugging out of her new coat, Brooklyn shifted into her four-legged form. She felt herself shrink, a new perspective, something she had not tried in weeks. Shaking herself, she felt her pelt settling. It was strange, certainly, but not something she hated. Instead, she opened the door with her nose and rushed down the stairs, out the door and into the night. The white girl hadn't realised just how hungry she was. There were some reserves, she reckoned, but nothing could even begin to compare with the freedom of a hunt. That's it, my girl, go where your paws take you. The voice was soothing now, no longer a hindrance. She believed she was getting used to it, the voice of her ghost. What else could she call him? He had been quiet lately, simply watching her in her dreams, as she ran around with her siblings, half-remembered days of her childhood.

Soon, she could see her mother. Her tail wagging with joy, she approached the adult just in time for the call to ring out. It spilled into her blood and bones, it shook her core, it made her wide awake with glee and anticipation. It promised running and prey, it promised fresh food. It promised kinship and the bonds of pack and family. Raising her own maw, Brooklyn let out a cry in response to Anu's. Not as strong, certainly, but it gave away her presence, her happiness and her willingness to join in. Quietly she came to sit next to the female, her tail wagging. Brooklyn let silence fall between them for now, as they waited for others still to come.

ooc: Sooo this is set nighttime on the 3rd, which would make it the same day as our reconnection thread which happened in the morning after the 2nd I think! :>

Colibri Haki caught her breath, riveted to the enticing call that reverberated through the hallways of the manor. That wolfsong held her transfixed; her adoration for the older female knew no bounds, now that they shared the same homeland, the same den, the same bedroom. Her wide blue eyes peered down the hallway, trepidation shadowing their clear hue. She had watched as another female trotted down the stairs out of nowhere. The white wolf had moved swiftly, tail high with confidence as the night swallowed her. Coli hesitated, shuffling her small paws in the doorway of her room. She wanted nothing more than to fly to her beloved's side, to shadow her everywhere and keep her all to herself. But she was a Crimson Dreamer now, and that meant she had to know her place. Anu was a leader, and Coli was the lowest of the low. Duties came first.
Family was next on the list of priorities, and Coli was fairly certain that it was Anu's daughter Brooklyn that had swooped ahead of her. She lived in the mansion as well, didn't she? It was spacious enough that the occupants did not always meet face to face, but their scents inextricably perfumed the halls and chambers within. If Anu was with Brooklyn, she wouldn't need her clingy roommate distracting her. And, cowardice made her dread meeting Brook and Mati, for how was she to introduce herself? Blood relative or no, the sisters would surely look down upon someone their age falling in love with their mother. And the more rumors they heard about Haku Soul, the less inclined they would feel to welcome his mangled daughter with open arms...
Biting her lip, the brown-furred timber wolf padded softly down the stairs, slipping out into the wintry night. She could just keep her head down and make an appearance. Perhaps it would color her impression favorably to show her packmates how unobtrusive she was. She wouldn't be much help with the actual hunting, since she was still recuperating from the loss of her tail. Her strength was returning, but her balance was not. The slippery snow coupled with her inability to make sharp turns rendered her somewhat useless tonight, but she could never resist an invitation from her Anu. She smiled sheepishly as she emerged into the moonlight, ears tucked back conservatively as she nodded to Anu and Brooklyn. They were sort of family, weren't they? "...Good evening," she murmured, a little too intimidated to join in the howling. She sat lightly on her haunches, casting Anu a helpless glance as if to ask her how to behave in this situation. Should they act as equals, or defer to rank?

Her call filtered through the sky, the moon her only witness and trailed the winter's cold wind and speaking to those that cared to listen. It was a simple plea, eager and in earnest. The female wished to begin to the chase, but she was a fool to think that any deer might fall to her alone. The reason that they came together and lived among one another was clear in her need to fill her stomach. But it was not so simple. The gathering was a primal moment, feeding the wolf that had not been touched by her wolfen virus. It needed to be among the group, to know the chase, and feel the unity of the feast. The kill could almost be tasted on her tongue, the scent of doe and buck clinging on a passing breeze.

The white wolfess that approached was none other then Brooklyn. Anu felt her tail wave in greeting and excitement. It had been some time since to the two had spoken, and though the Lt General remained silent she greeted her daughter with a smile and an eager tail. She felt the need to indulge her curiosity and have the blue eyed female explain her where abouts. Anu had wondered often how she was, and hoped that there was nothing that she had missed in the younger female's life. Was there something that happened to make them drift as greatly as they had?

Thoughts were cut short at the next wolf's arrival. Colibri strode across the snow, taking up her attention with immediacy. Anu had not seen her in the moon's light, and the color of her pelt drifted and blended with the dark of the night, unlike the stark contrast of her own or Brooklyn's snowy coat. She smiled, though words were not needed to express her appreciation for her presence. Her tail still bandaged, and her body still healing and yet she came when Anu asked it. In a moment, and seeing no other beast approaching in the distance Anu took to the lead of the small pack and let her nose find the scent. If any other had heard her call, Anu was sure that they would be able to find them and join the chase.

Italian dude is fasionably late to hunting party, oh yes. >.> Hope yous don't mind. 633

The nights seemed to be growing more and more familiar to the Marino man. He had assumed that he had managed to fend of the sleepless nights for the most part, but the longer he stayed separated from his small family, the more sleep seemed to avoid him. He was almost uncertain if it all due to him missing them so greatly or because he had already grown so used to falling asleep with the pups around him. The chocolate-hued male could only assume that both played some part in his bouts of insomnia. On most nights he could toss and turn for a while until he forced sleep upon himself, but on some nights he could not tolerate the lonely quiet of his bedroom for very long. Tonight had been one of those nights, and to shake off the uncomfortable thoughts and excess energy that seemed to accompany them he slipped out of the mansion and took a walk out around the pack lands.

Ehno was unsure how long he had been wandering about when he heard a pair of calls ring out through the cold night. He stopped in his tracks and listened quietly to the melodic howls. It was an invitation for a hunt, clear and simple. It seemed like the perfect way to dispel some of his nightly unease and do something productive for the pack at the same time. He hesitated to rush to the hunt though, thoughts beginning to buzz. The one who had initiated the call was the leader Anu. Ehno had seldom stopped to spend time and get to know the woman, especially after Naniko’s departure from the pack. Obviously she would know of his involvement with her former mate. He had hardly bumped into the woman around the pack lands recently, but he knew that their meeting would be an awkward encounter to handle. The male deliberated for a few moments about whether he should join the hunt. Thinking briefly on his duty as a pack member, his decision became abundantly clear.

The Italian man started moving again, hoping that he would be able to catch up with the hunters. On his way toward the area the call had originated from, he thought he saw a few tracks by the light of the moon. Thinking he might have found something, he sniffed around and discovered a slightly faint scent of deer. He followed the trail for a short time, nose to the ground, until he could be certain that the trail was fresh. A renewed energy for the hunt flowed through him and he continued onward to meet up with the hunting party to let them know of his discovery. Eventually he caught the sight of movement in the distance and he watched for a moment before realizing that it was Anu leading the small hunting party.

He easily recognized Brooklyn beside her, and the other woman held a slight familiarity as well. The Marino studied her for a moment before an encounter from a few months back sprang to mind. He had met this young woman once before, but at that time she had belonged to Dahlia de Mai. Had she perhaps joined their ranks in the months that passed? He cast her a worried glance once he noticed the shape she was in, tail bandaged. He wondered what could have happened to her, but now was not the time for such questions. Instead he offered her a reassuring smile. He nodded briefly in greeting to the group before falling in step beside them. “There’s a herd not far north from here. I spotted a few fresh tracks just up there,” he shared, motioning back to the direction he had come from. The excitement for the hunt was clear in his hushed voice.

Not the only Italian latecomer... Maybe the Marinos have a chronic lateness issue? ^^; Sorry if I'm interrupting... and sorry for the huge lack of muse... WC: 617

Co-Rank thread 1~

The ivory that casually littered the ground beneath her paws reflected the silver moon in all it's glory. Hitting the turquoised optics of the Marino at just the right angle to irritate her, Ghita closed herself off from the world, taking in a breath of chilly midnight air. She let it swirl around her lungs, loving the raw feeling as it slipped down her throat and gave her life, before expelling it into a large puff of air. If her packmates hadn't been paying attention to their noses, no one would be the wiser to her presence as the she-wolf lay outside, half-buried under snow.

Jazper was asleep with the children, that she knew. Finding an odd sanctuary in the fact, she had slipped out hours before, while the snow was still floating from heavy clouds to watch the few stars she could see. Always holding a fancy with the celestial, the young mother watched pinpricks in the navy blanket as they faded and reappeared, the darkened clouds chasing each other in their dance in the sky. Her left side lay pressed against chilled soil buried under tainted ivory, another half-inch starting to build on her dust-coloured pelt. Shielded by the cold, Ghita's mind was left to wander, the tranquility of the night both soothing and unnerving at the same time.

That said, Ghita couldn't deny that she jumped when tender notes pricked the fragile silence, immediately knowing that the sound was an invitation. Rolling onto her back, the fae used the momentum to carry her over, letting a small 'whump' announce her arrival on the other side. Now facing the approaching patrol, Ghita silently rose to her paws, shaking her lithe body as snow flew off of her. Bending down to touch her nose to the snow, her whole body stretched out, muscles sighing in contentment as they contorted to comfortable positions. Judging by the distance of the pawsteps, the fae had about a minute before the patrol would hurtle past her, and she fully intended to use that minute to her advantage.

Hunting was not a passive sport in any means - there was the long run necessary to reach their prey, the use of many senses in tandem to actually locate a suitable target, not to mention the fight it would take to bring the unfortunate animal down. Letting these thoughts fade away, Ghita took in one more breath, registering the scents in her mind before letting herself settle into the niche she found to shift in - letting her bones crack and contort beneath rapidly growing skin. Her mane began to thicken and lengthen, traveling down to her shoulders before cutting off - her muscles growing and her stance widening as finally Ghita entered her rarely-used Secui form.

The shift had taken longer than expected, it seemed. Shifting from one dinner-plate sized paw to another, Ghita could see the approaching patrol now, noticing her brother just as he was a few meters away from passing her. Pushing her muscles into action at the precise last moment available, Ghita broke into a run to catch up with the hunting patrol, arriving just in time to hear her brother mention 'up there' a few miles from where Ghita had been resting. Like a shadow, she melted beside her kin, nodding briefly to the group before giving her question voice. "I hope is okay, that I join you?" The question was directed mostly at Anu, who seemed to be the leader of the squadron, but at the same time, she ducked her head, ears flicking as she turned to her brother, almost as if asking him permission as well.

wc: 326 // hallo packmates! :>

Anu's smile melted away the knot of worry in Coli's chest, and her stance brightened considerably. She dared a glance at Brooklyn, ears flickering as she tried to adopt a simultaneous friendly and apologetic expression, succeeding only in looking awkward. She rose quickly back to her small paws, snowflakes eddying around her haunches as she padded obediently at Anu's heels. The cold air was surprisingly good for her healing tail stub; it brought a numbness to the consistent throbbing, making the introverted female a bit more optimistic about the outing.

Two more wolves surged out of the darkness, falling in step with their small hunting party. Colibri skirted shyly away from the unfamiliar female, the warm scent of pups lingering in her sleek pelt. The sole male caught her eye, though, with a reassuring smile. His scent was strangely familiar, although she couldn't place his face immediately, being in the dark and in a different form. "...You're the whittling man!" she blurted triumphantly, a shy smile quickly following an embarrassed wince. She couldn't quite recall his first name - she had still been lightheaded and weak the day she met him, and most of their conversation was a hazy memory at best. Still cringing, the small timber wolf let her pace falter and slow, so that the older wolves would pass her by. She should be at the back of the pack anyway.

The wintry air crystallized her breath, suspending tiny clouds that dissipated as she cut through them. It was relaxing to stretch her legs, to lope along at that easy stride, hearing the short huffs of breath from the wolves around her. This was the part she liked, really - being included, and knowing that it would not fall on her incapable shoulders to bring down their prey. Not every hunt was a successful one, but Coli did not want that failure to be the first impression her new packmates would carry of her.
