The morning had dawned bright and clear, a welcome relief to the almost constant cloud cover that threatened to unleash a fresh layer of snow on the land below. The snow on the ground was crisp, and it crunched lightly as Levi walked. He was wearing a pair of loose shorts, the edges frayed and wispy.

We was walking with a purpose today; he had a job to do. In a disorganized pile, there lay several pieces of wood; some were actually stripped and formed into planks, but most were small logs he had collected. It was a good sized collection, and he was impressed that he had managed to get such a substantial amount.

Next to the pile pf wood, there was a hammer and a pile of nails. Most were rusty and bent slightly, as he had pulled them out of their previous home. They had been holding buildings together that were dilapidated and falling apart anyway, so he had taken it upon himself to remove the useful steel bits for his crafting.

Straightening up, he clapped his hands together in front of him and rubbed them together, his green gaze scanning his small collection before deciding where he needed to start. Build the body. Yes, that’s where he and his father had started when they had built the cart he had.

He picked up a long, slender piece of wood, running his hands along the slightly rough lumber. He set it down in the grass, laying it on its side, before picking up another piece similar to the first in length. He continued with this process until he had a fairly good-sized row of wooden cylinders. His plan for this particular cart would be for log collecting; and not the small logs he had here. No, for those big logs he had seen Dawali with. Levi figured that a cart a horse could pull would be very beneficial.

The line if wood was probably about the length of a horse, maybe a little longer. It would need 4 wheels... those would be the hardest to create. But he would worry about that later.

His next task in making this cart would be to connect these boards together. He took one of the flatter pieces of wood and laid it across the ends of the rounded pieces. Using it as a brace, he nailed it securely onto the end of the row, securing the boards together. He did this on the other end, and in two places in the middle. When he stood up to inspect his work, he had a good, solid flooring to his cart.

Next, he would craft the sides. The cart would have no ends, so that it could accommodate any sized log. He built the sides like he built the bottom, enforcing them with boards and nails. After he had two even sized rows of enforced wood, he heaved first one side up, creating a ninety-degree angle with the flooring. Nailing in the first side caused it to balance awkwardly, but the white male soon remedied that by securing the other side.

Satisfied with the body of the cart, he sat down against a tree, panting. Despite the cool snow around him, he was warm from the exertion of building the device. All that was left now though were the wheels and the shafts. He suspected he could create a harness of sorts that could be adjusted for the horse’s size, or so he hoped. But he would worry about that later.
