The death of "the Child" and the birth of something else. Takes place in Haku's subconscience. Marked M for a tiny amount of gore, wc 7

This was the end.

The red had been absorbed by the soft material and the once soft and beautiful carpet was forever ruined. It had been white and pure, very much like the newly born souls – or those reborn for another chance. There was purity and beauty in this world walking hand in hand. Now the carpet was dirty and what was left of the songs his mother had sung for him were mere skeletons of a past that had never been. He was the presence and only the presence. With only darkness to light his narrow path, Haku was lost and could only cling with sharp secui claws against the ruined carpet. The building sighed scornfully and shivered lightly as it slowly crumbled and fell around the man with the beautiful eyes that inhabited such repulsiveness. He was a being of black and crimson and he was lost in the darkness. That death was on his doorsteps had long been expected, though he was shocked to see the storm shake the house to its very core and pull his world apart.

The false King’s ears turned and sought for the noise drowned out by the sound of his coming death. Jaws parted and a shallow rattle was lost in the chaos. Limbs shook as his claws retracted from the crisp carpet on the dissolving floor. Slowly, he started to move with determination alive in those dead orbs. He could hear it now. Haku Soul’s face turned into a fiend’s grin and the storm outside turned into dangerous silence. There was only silence know; for they both knew that the inevitable moment had come. His lungs filled up with ashes from the deceased souls that he had inhaled alive. It ached and burned, but he continued on, ignoring the sudden lack of ghouls by his side. There were no bars and there was no cellar. He had dreamed of this moment, but he had been careful not to underestimate it once he finally was here. Haku was out of time and the burn spread from his lungs and to his decaying organs. In the distance he could see the form of his target. It was still as a statue, waiting too for what could not be avoided.

The Soul man had always been bothered by the echoes of tears. Never more. Fur once so beautiful in texture and appearance was now aflame – lighting up the impossible darkness. It mattered little as his eyes melted and slowly dripped out from its sockets, because he had never seen quite as clearly as he now did. The child was close now. Blessed silence, he craved it so. The man’s skin boiled and muscles tore. This was it. There were no words to say, because they were the same. Tears evaporated quickly in the presence of the burning secui, and now the child’s blood boiled as well, though it did not suffer in silence like the adult. It begged, it wept, it screamed. They all did when the end of their lives closed in on them. There was a third presence now, darker and more twisted than Haku had ever been. It was life and it was death. The last echoes of a child’s misery ripped through the air before silence finally settled in the universe that was Haku’s very own mind; the world that existed deep beyond the dark surface that had ruled his life until now.

Darkness ruled once again, for there was no fuel left for the greedy fire. Somewhere in the darkness a child died, and somewhere in the darkness the remaining creature smiled like only a fiend could.

The large secui flinched once, even twice before it opened its brilliantly blue eyes. The world was dark, though the treacherous snow cheated and offered a gentle reflection of light somehow borrowed from the clouded sky. Haku Soul breathed shallowly before pushing his large frame up on four mighty paws. He gazed out of the window and observed the scattered black forms of demons. He had always possessed a vague insecurity about the walking dead, but no more. Now he smiled. This was truly the end.
