Terra had promised to show Axelle how she made her traps. She wouldn't be revealing her secrets, but she could certainly let the wolf watch as she made them. The only problem was Terra had managed to get herself hit by a cougar, making shifting impossible. She was stuck on four legs. Luckily, Terra had been building traps from before she could shift. Granted, such traps were much more simple than the complex puzzles she built on two legs, but it was better than having nothing to show.

Terra had traveled as far north as she could before being forced to stop. Panting Terra found a nice dense bush and squeezed herself underneath where predators wouldn't be able to reach her. One could try and stick a paw in, but that would be met by a sharp row of teeth. Deciding it would be alright if she rested for just a little while Terra closed her eyes. The traps she'd build already danced through her head, imagining Axelle's laughter as they caught foolish canines.

Seabreeze Brink was around the area that they agreed to meet. Axelle had been wandering around for the past few hours trying to pick up Terra’s scent. It was completely inexistent until now. She caught the faint, familiar scent of her mentor in the area somewhere, but the question was: where, exactly?

Axelle was in Optime, as she usually was nowadays. She now neglected her Lupus form, the one she used to favor so much. Thumbs were of so much use to her, and plus being a warrior without being able to use a sword was tough. Today, she didn’t have her sword- she had her dark mahogany wood crossbow instead. It was her favorite weapon, and the one she knew how to use well. She figured if she was in danger, she would spot it before it spotted her, and she’d be able to shoot whatever it was first. She didn’t come across anything that was a threat to her, though. There were no wild animals and no wild wolves, either.

After almost an hour of walking towards the scent of her friend, with it getting stronger with every step, she came to the point where it was at its strongest, but she didn’t see Terra anywhere out in the open. ”Terra?” She called out to her, while she stood in the same spot with her crossbow slung over her shoulder. She started her journey earlier this morning, and now it was about to be late noon, almost evening. The sun wasn’t pelting on her so greatly anymore, which would be a good thing once they started working. ”Terra!?” She called out to her again, just in case the first wasn’t heard correctly. Axelle looked around, but saw nothing move or anyone familiar pop up out of the brush. The sandy meadow was just as calm as it was everyday.

Terra's ears twitched lightly. Something was calling her. Immediately her other senses started working. Terra herself was still in the dream realm, the rest of her body working on measuring for potential threats. The second call came, and her nose accepted it as Axelle, popping through and finally waking her up. Yawning she stretched, wincing slightly on her leg before slinking out from her hiding place, looking up to the large looking wolf. Hey.

Lazily she sat down again, examining the area she'd trapped. It looked calm on the surface. The simple arrangement of tugged plants and things placed to trip the other into entanglement was almost impossible to see, as they were natural parts of the landscape, simply moved around a little by the smal coyote. Looks like the sun's going down. That'll make it harder for you. She didn't see any handicap on herself, everything prepared.

Axelle continued to survey the area around her, but swerved around when she heard a calm ‘hey’. She carefully took the crossbow off of her back so that she would be able to move more freely. She brought a finger up to point at one of her eyes, ”Night vision, honey.” She said it with a friendly smirk, and then lowered herself around the trap that she didn’t notice before. She could’ve fallen into it if she stepped more toward the right while looking for her friend.

The trap barely looked like one at all. If you weren’t looking for a trap, you wouldn’t find it, but if you expected one- you could see it, faintly. The terrain covering it looked almost like the meadows ground anywhere else, but the shrubs around made it more obvious. To a wolf that wasn’t suspecting anything, they would’ve never caught on to it. The shrubs were placed around it carefully, not making it too obvious, and the medium used to cover it looked just like any other grass that was around. That part she commended Terra on. It looked no different from anywhere else. ”Let’s do this.”

After studying the surface for a few moments, she now knew how to cover the trap with anything in the area that looked natural. She crawled over to it, and applied enough pressure with one of her arms to make the cover fall away into the dark hole. The grass and what shrubs fell tumbled and floated to the deep bottom. Axelle peered in carefully, not letting herself hang over the edge too far. Most of it was dark, and what would be naked to the human eye wasn’t to hers because all wolves possessed night vision, Luperci or not. She always considered it a superpower for animals. Since the human had the brain capacity, the animals were more equipped for life.

Terra wasn't too particularly concerned. If the falling night had made it impossible she might have put more effort into making sure that it hadn't been so late. It was the finer, smaller details that Axelle might miss, ones hard enough to see in the day let alone in the night when everything took on a darker hue, blending together. Her tail twitched as Axelle examined one of the traps she had set up. It had taken time, tugging one loose branch to knot with another, to hide the lines hiding between the bushes that revealed the pit.

Terra waited to see what Axelle would pick up. It was simple things, noting that the shrugs weren't in completely natural poses, that the area where the trap started was covered with exactly the same thing as everything else. She did let out a small yelp of protest as the trap was destroyed. So much for using it. Sighing Terra turned, trotting over to where a more difficult trap was, a few branches and the like knotted to work at catching a leg and holding the trespasser there. Terra leaped over it cleanly, glancing behind her to see if the wolf would see what she had dodged.

Axelle Napier
I don't want to touch the sky

I just want to feel that high

Hearing her friend yelp as the cover of the trap fell away, she looked up to see Terra mildly upset. ”Sorry.” She said, feeling a little bad that she destroyed a perfectly good trap to just look inside. ”Well, what I see from your covers is that you use natural things from the area- branches, leaves, grass, etc.- and make it as natural looking as possible so that the area doesn’t look suspicious…” That was all because she wasn’t exactly sure what she was supposed to be looking at in the trap itself.

After looking in the hole for a few moments, not sure what she was supposed to be seeing, she followed her friend’s movements over to another patch of ground. Seeing her leap over it, she caught on right away that it was another trap. Wow, so close together. She would think that traps were supposed to be spaced out a little more. Then again if one trap doesn’t get ‘em, another one will. Axelle padded over to the other trap carefully, and didn’t touch anything this time. ”Okay, Terra. What am I supposed to be looking at with this one?” She wanted her friend to point out the obvious, and also the not-so-obvious too. She wanted to get as much out as she could from this lesson, that way when she was on her own, she would know exactly what to do.

She saw the cover had exactly the same elements as the last one she destroyed, except this one had branches that looked like they could snare someone or something’s ankle. Axelle took that into consideration as she studied other things this one had that the other one didn’t. The branches looked like those thin, wiry ones that would easily be able to catch onto a leg or arm, even without being worked into a trap. Axelle was soaking in all that she could, and she was starting to form ideas on how she was going to get her revenge.

Terra nodded her head, curled up on the other side. It was a bit sad that she couldn't actually teach Axelle how she had done any of this, but her trickster nature refused to allow that. It had to be kept hidden. Terra might be able to point out the occasional detail, but it was all on Axelle and what she would be able to pick up on her own. The pause alerted Terra, knowing that Axelle understood another trap was waiting for her. Why would distance be needed? Terra just wanted to fool around anyways.

The question was disappointing, as the coyote couldn't answer her. Shaking her head she looked at the trap. Everything here is an extent of what is already out there. Every time you've been slowed, caught, injured, is taken and reflected here. That was all she could say on the matter. The rest was for Axelle to study and figure out on her own. The movement of the branches, how she had made it to trip and snag, the difficulty in working free. Terra had worked hard to learn that, and Axelle would have to do the same.

Axelle Napier

Axelle scrutinized the trap, now realizing that Terra wouldn’t tell her anything directly. She was definitely on her own to see what to do, and what she picked up from what was in front of her so far was that either it was just a hole or contraption with certain things to trick the prey into being stuck, either physically or mentally. She noted that this one before her had those attributes as well, only without the deep, dark hole. This one had an actual snare; the tree branch that would be used to entangle around an ankle or other limb would cause the animal, or whatever it was, to fall and then be stuck without an obvious escape route.

She was greatly intrigued by Terra’s cunning, and smiled maliciously while she examined the snare further. The little twists in the branches seemed to be the key to the trap. They were thin, and didn’t look like they would hold- but looks were often deceiving. They seemed to be the key to the loosening of the trap, but what about whatever made it tighter around the victim’s limb? A few more seconds of looking around the thing made it obvious and gave her the answer. It did both.

After a good five minutes of examining and walking around her end of the trap, she could see exactly how Terra had done it. She had two types of traps down: the pitfall and the snare. ”Okay, I think I got these down pretty good. Are there any others you can show me?” She was sure there were many others, but if Terra could just educate her on the most basic types then she would be able to take the information and run with it., and then eventually be able to make her own adjustments.

Axelle spent a good amount of time examining the simple trap Terra had set up for her to view. It wasn't as complex as it could have been, thrown together without the help of hands, but it would do it's job, and do it well. Terra sat patiently on the other side, using the chance to rest her broken leg from the pain that came from moving around too much. She kept it hidden, the leg tucked close, though there was nothing she could do to hide the wrapping except keep Axelle's attention on the traps and off her.

Asked to show the next one Terra dipped her head softly. This next trap was a very interesting one, and had been almost impossible to set up. She had spent quite a while figuring out how to make it without getting caught in it herself. The more deadly traps had been left behind, choosing to focus on ones that Terra wouldn't have to worry Axelle accidentally getting killed by while investigating, even if it was accidentally set off.

Terra moved smoothly over the grounds, stopping by a stream. A great attraction for anyone that came by. A soft threshold of plants had been tangled around, leaving a small opening to go through. Inside, a simple step would trigger it to collapse, leaving the victim stranded in the water. One could swim out, but most animals disliked it enough that they would stay there for quite some time without leaving, even wolves. They tried to find other ways instead, buying enough time for Terra to come and find them. This one? It was most similar to the trap she'd last met up with Axelle at, stripped down to it's most basic form.

Axelle Napier
I don't want to touch the sky

I just want to feel that high

Axelle followed Terra to the next trap, which was by the river. She noticed her friend’s limp, and injured leg way before, but now it had gotten to a point where it was getting harder to keep her mouth shut on the subject.

They arrived at the trap by the river, and Axelle took in the scene. She took note of how the contraption trapped the prey, and she took in what kept the prey from getting out. After she felt like she had everything down, she had to, ”Terra, what happened to your leg?” She knew her friend had been trying to hide it from her, but without being a genuine friend, she wouldn’t have said anything. She felt that she was Terra’s genuine friend, and she needed to say something to the small female coyote. ”There aren’t any healers in your pack? Have them take a look at it when you get back..” She didn’t want to tell her what to do, but if she let it go like that, the wound could get worse.

Axelle sat near her friend in the grass, and looked at her leg from the little distance that was between the two canines. The wound looked pretty bad, probably caused by a bite or an encounter with another animal, or wolf. ”If you don’t get it looked at, it could get a lot worse, friend.” She knew her advice might have been unwanted advice, and she left it at that. ”I’m sorry, I don’t mean to preach.” Axelle sat there without another word, she knew Terra had to tell her something.

it's fine nice avvie

She looked sharply over to the contrasting wolf. Terra had worked hard on keeping it hidden, moving with practically no limp despite the pain that had given her. It had been noticed though. She needed to do better in hiding it. A cougar attacked. I managed to escape, but not without a couple souvenirs. The slight scars on her side were testament to that, even if they were thin enough to be difficult to spot. She laughed softly, an almost cold sound from the warm spirited coyote.

Her gaze fell back down, thinking about a trap she could show Axelle that would take her attention off the injured leg. Her teeth pulled back slightly at the mention of healers. It's been taken care of. I'll be fine. The real complaint was the boredom that came from the much repeated instruction of needing to rest. She shook her head, glancing down again. The only problem is how long it seems it'll take to finish healing. Far too long. Standing Terra moved over to a quick trap. Walk underneath, a weight fell down and knocked the victim unconscious. Simple yet effective.

Axelle watched Terra with quiet eyes. She knew what ‘souvenirs’ were like, and they weren’t fun. Well, not the ones from a fight anyway. She nodded with a frown. Healing wasn’t fun, but it was essential to keep going. The memories that flooded her mind when she thought of the many scars she had all over her body were painful. The rape, the fight with Harlowe, and probably a few others that didn’t come rushing to the front of her mind were only few. Luckily, most of the scars were all hidden by her bushy fur that luckily still grew around the area. Most of them were hidden except for the big pink gash on her chest. Kemo’s hands at the time, before she got her secret revenge on him and before they became friends. She shook her head to herself, What was I really thinking having his friendship would help the situation? She rolled her eyes, and brought her attention back to her friend and the trap she was now standing in front of.

”Terra, I’ve had my share of wounds,” she solemnly pointed to the obvious one on her chest, ”Healing is important and should be taken seriously- no matter how dull and long it is.” Not that she needed to remind Terra, but just in case the coyote was forgetful. ”Try to do low key things for a while, and mostly stay off that leg!” She ended it with a smile, meaning she was being serious, but her advice didn’t have to be taken, and she kind of doubted it would. Axelle focused her attention on the trap before her and took in what needed to be known. The cement block would be dropped on the victim’s head when they moved the unseen rope by their feet. Genius idea to get who she needed to into one of the other traps. ”I think I have seen enough traps to get me going. Thank you, friend.”

Here came the lecture. It seemed she couldn't get away from it. Any canine with even the slightest soft spot worried and fussed over her injured leg. She hated being forced to stay still, and being told it was good for her did not help the situation at all. Terra still wanted to get out of it and move on with her life, in whatever form that took. It was hard not to roll her eyes or make a snarky remark. After all, she shouldn't really be out here teaching Axelle about traps, staying in her pack to rest. Clearly she was not.

Terra nodded her head, pretending to take it all gravely serious and she would follow the advice. Not that she actually would. Staying still would kill her! Your welcome. Last test: get out of here without setting any off. Smirking Terra stepped back. She disappeared into the growth around there, heading back for her pack and leaving Axelle to work her way out of the mazed field filled with traps.

Axelle Napier

Terra seemed really agreeable to her speech, which told Axelle it was a front. She didn’t care- as long as she was heard. Maybe one day something will click in Terra’s mind, and she’ll realize that all the advice she had ever received was true, and should have been followed. Axelle mentally shrugged, and smiled back at Terra. She was truly grateful that her friend shared her knowledge, even if it was a trade skill. Axelle felt that she knew enough about traps now to set the ultimate one, and wait.

As Terra disappeared into the brush, Axelle looked around herself nervously. She made it there safe, by chance, pure luck. How was she going to get out alive? She could follow Terra, but she needed to go the opposite way to get back to Anathema. At least now, she knew what traps looked like when they were hidden. Axelle turned around to face her destination. She carefully stepped on the ground before her. Nothing happened. So, she took another few cautious steps. Still nothing. So, then she just began to walk. Carefully, of course.

Soon, she found herself out of the trap maze that Terra had set up, hopefully solely for learning purposes, and not to trap Axelle indirectly. She only set off one trap in her way through the maze, and narrowly escaped it’s wrath. It was one of the ones that knocked out the victim, and she barely missed the rock as it came tumbling down towards her skull. She was still unaware of how big the maze of traps really was, but as soon as she gained a few miles in distance from where they were, she was sure she was free of the maze. The tension in her muscles slowly dissolved, and she felt that she could walk without caution. She headed back with a steady pace, as she downshifted to Secui. It was lessen the trip’s duration by a lot, and also give her some freedom being on four legs again.
