I want to be brave.

OOC - Dated for early December. Here we are :D

Bravery is when a Lion finds his Roar.

Leo had finally taken steps towards considering himself to be brave. That cowardice that stuck to Leo like a tightly wound blanket was beginning to loosen. He had cured his fears, but Leo was a step towards beating them. One step might not mean a lot to some, but to Leo, he was just grateful to finally be moving forward. That being said, he still had nightmares over what he'd done to help save Rylan. He'd not hesitate to do so again, but each time the shepherd slept, he was greeted by dreams about diving into that water again. Meeting a waterfall, the thing that had crushed Leo's family, and facing it to save someone from his new one. He'd succeeded, hadn't passed out when surrounded by water or anything like that. He'd won in the fight against his fear, and helped save Fenrir's son.

Thinking back outside the illusions of sleep, Leo was able to be proud of what he'd done. But one fight won against his fear of water wasn't a win for the war. He could step into a shallow stream now, or drink from a lake without as much hesitation, but that was all. Though for Leo, that was enough progress for now. Even Atsotasdi thought so as well, since the Owl hadn't pestered Leo to face his fears in the last few weeks. So although winter was approaching, with harsh weather for a farmer, and the due date of Queen's lamb drawing near, Leo was content. He'd asked Fenrir for another lesson, hoping the man was recovered from everything that had happened between him and his son now. Leo only asked in passing, wondering if Fenrir would be up to teaching the Shepard more about using the spear. Which left Leo where he was now, tightly holding onto a spear he'd adopted from the Tribe's storage, staring off around the quieter part of the village for his friend and mentor.

Family bonds were considered some of the strongest as they could be strained beyond the point of breaking yet find a way to reconnect. Fenrir will admit his own fault in the fact that he hadn't changed his schedule when Rylan's mother, in a way left them. His son got anxious, his son lost confidence, and his son needed him a lot more. Agitation with this, is very natural. Fenrir would not scald his son for being so worried, Fenrir did almost the same thing for a less serious reason. It took his father telling him that such behavior led to chances like the ones both of them faced.

Rylan was able bodied again being able to wield a spear once again. Though after the morning was spent getting his son to have a good long laugh. The boy needed humor after everything that occurred to destroy his young heart . Rylan slept at home with a necklace that now had a silver rosary, a mark of a Lupercus. This was Dad time, a period of time where Fenrir could walk about the pack fulfilling his duties knowing his son was happy and resting. There were many he still wanted to hold close and thank. One of which was the man that dove in to save his boy.

Leo was the scent to look for. He was a student that needed further teaching and family that needed attention. It didn't take long for the half blind giant to find the wolf. His hand lifted in greeting towards the sheep whisperer. With a wide grin and joyous walk the sage spoke. "Leo, you appear ready for some intense training, are you not?" Fenrir chuckled patting the other on the shoulder. "You showed great strength at the cliff and we need to push you further getting you to use the strength you feel with the spear, and making that confidence a permanent part of your being."

OOC - ooc stuff here

Bravery is when a Lion finds his Roar.

Leo mused over what his sister might think of him, if she was to see him like this. Leo the coward finally looking determined, learning to defend himself and get some courage. Leo would like to show them all in fact, all of his family, his slow transformation. He thought gleefully over how much had changed for the better, ever since finding a place to stop at last. This new family could never replace the one lost, but it didn't mean Leo loved the new one any less. Those like Fenrir were considered close to Leo now, as close as siblings would be. Leo's nail began to carve a little into the spear, and so the shepherd decided to warm himself up whilst waiting. A few practise attacks, recalling what he'd previously learnt about balancing his weight to accompany the power of the spear.

Leo's nose faced the direction Fenrir appeared from, so he quickly stopped his practise to wave back to the warrior. After a quick smile, Leo awkwardly chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. "A-a-as in-intense as a s-shepherd l-like m.. me c-c-can g-get get." Leo replied, a smile lifting on his face, more naturally then months prior, "H-h-hopefully I-I'll l-last last lo-longer th-this t-time." Leo added, remembering how his stamina levels seem to drop so quick in combat. Leo hadn't realised how straining fighting was, assuming with his level of endurance from a lifetime of travelling would give him an edge. It seemed there was lot more to the skill Fenrir prided himself with than Leo first thought, which almost made him more determined to improve.

Fenrir gave Leo a bit of verbal preparation of the training to come, and like a pup being taught to fight, Leo looked to his mentor and close friend with excitement, grip tightening on his spear. Leo nodded his head, before his usual shyness came through, making the wolfdog humble with his words. "I-I h-h-hope I-I c-c-can d-d-do more more t-t-to he-help oth-others later o-on, m-more th-than j-j-jumping in-into w-w-water, to, um, h-h-help them. I d-d-don't know h-h-how con-confident I-I c-c-can be, b-b-but I h-hope I c-can at-at least g-g-get st-stronger." Leo replied honestly, before taking a few good, focused breaths. "S-s-so, um.. wh-what will w-w-we st-start w-with th-this t-time?"

Every career spoke to its destined followers. The path may be hidden under vines and insects but there was always a path one may follow. Some chose not to follow the path, that too was a path. There was competition that threatened any on their journey. Whether it was nature's circus of survival or the mind's angst to be the best. Fenrir knew he was large, he was by that stronger than many of his opponents. Still he developed his form more for agility than the brute force behind large swords or shields. He was not the biggest, he was not the strongest, in fact he held no pillar to stand on. He could argue he was the best sage, he had no true way of knowing since many of their customs were lost to him.

To say things are intense as a shepherd hinted at an smooth, that was not always the truth. Herders had to breed, raise, and understand their livestock. They needed to have a concept of trade, in times of hunger they needed to be prepared to slay animals that they had raised by hand. Those stress factors would help Leo in the long run as he trained with the spear. Ashen ears swiveled to every stuttered word the man let flow from his maw. Leo was not too far into optimism or pessimism, he was closer to a realist. Honest statements deserved an honest response. "I believe you will get very strong Leo, perhaps even be able to call yourself a sage if you'd like." He smiled softly wanting to spread his traditions far and wide.

Fenrir cleared his throat before separating himself further from Leo. He spun his spear letting the blunt end of the weapon point at his student. Fenrir spoke with a booming force, he was a commander in this moment wanting his soldier to listen. "Today I will mark your improvemennt with a test of prowess, you and I will spar to see how you handle yourself in a combat scenario."

OOC - Had to look up methods of spear fighting, so sorry if a little confusion :S

Bravery is when a Lion finds his Roar.

Perhaps Leo was gaining confidence, he wanted to do so for so long. Since being a pup, cowering behind his parents or sister when there was trouble, always relying on others to help him. Now, Leo was considering just what kind of revelation it would be to have others put their faith in him for once. Have Leo be the one saving them, helping them. Being relied on by more than just a flock of sheep was something Leo wanted to look towards. Maybe, just maybe in the future, he could be a shepherd for canines, a leader for others. Leo deemed himself unworthy all his life, but under that shell of doubt, a part of him did believe in his worth. Fenrir seemed to understand Leo well, and the shepherd was grateful to his Tribe-brother, smiling a little. "A-a-a, sa-sage d-doesn't s-s-sound t-t-too b-bad..." Leo replied with his smile still on his features, "I-I w-w-want t-t-to be-be ab-able t-to, um, c-c-call myself a-a-as some-someone t-t-to re-rely on. T-t-to re-repay m-my de-debt t-t-to ev-everyone h-h-here w-w-who has h-h-helped m-me, b-b-by h-h-helping t-to pr-protect them, as-as w-well a-a-as ser-serve them." Leo replied honestly.

He mirrored the repositioning of the spear like Fenrir did, positioning himself ready for battle. Nodding his head to the suggestion, Leo prepared himself for an attack, and how to make his first one. Fighting spear against spear was usually done in a way to make sure your opponent's spear was pointing away, whilst your own was able to be thrusted towards them. It was parrying, jabbing and retreating, meant to be done with nimble movements and a very quick reflex. Compared to any other style of fighting, it probably suited Leo the most, he just needed to work on his arm strength to improve in speed. One hand clutched near the tip of the spear, hand kept away from the sharp end, and the other held the spear about mid-way across it's length. Following in the lessons taught to him by his close friend, Leo moved his feet to be ready, and decided to make a initial move. With Fenrir prepared for the combat, Leo could only try to focus on moving the Sage's spear away. So he quickly moved the hand near the edge up a bit, pushed it forwards as he lunged and then back to him to attempt to knock down against Fenrir's spear.

The world beyond the borders was a strange mess he wasn't sure about anymore. He needed to shut himself inside the pack to keep the tribe trained in the ways of battle. Unlike others who tutored battle; Some taught the shield and others the blade, Fenrir taught survival. You didn't focus on keeping your foe healthy nor did you aim to destroy them. Your goal in the end was get out alive. The sage has faced many foes and killed only a few in his life time. He had been threaten by members of Vinatta yet he did not fear confronting their borders. That was bold stupidity, as he should have tucked his tail between his legs and offered food. Leo was a worker for the tribe, his heart swelled to serve them all. That mind could be strung along with ease, Leo was lucky to have found home in the tribe. The tribe was lucky to have gotten someone as dedicated as Leo.

His grin went wide hearing the man speech, he could say a lot with a stutter. Leo would be a perfect Sage. The smaller boy lunged at him attempting to strike Fenrir's weapon. Fenrir attempted to spin his form out of the way placing weight on the balls of his feet. The wood spun to grace the air above Leo's head then it would be retracted to be jabbed at the boy's chest. He wanted to get the shepherd out of his comfort zone. He needed to feel the pressure of combat or face death when confronted with an enemy. Fenrir's weapon was swung at each limb presented by the canine, soon putting pressure on Leo's own spear. Battle was meant to be a heart pounding thing, ti reminded you that your body desires to survive. Your body is your worker, you must treat it well or risk falling face first into a pool of your own blood. The sage didn't want Leo to fall so he needed to prepare the boy.

OOC -ooc stuff here

Bravery is when a Lion finds his Roar.

The word sage came with plenty of pressure, and responsibility. It spoke of one who was wise, had seen much of the work and remained standing through it's harshest tests. Someone who knew the consequences of their actions before making them, therefore knowing the best action to take. They were brave, but not fool-hardy. Part of Leo didn't know if he could ever become something so, impossible, to the shepherd's mind. And yet here he stood, facing against one such Sage, whom he'd placed trust in, and who believed in Leo when the wolfdog didn't. How Leo could reach the standards Fenrir had for the younger male was unknown, however, Leo did understand the distance between their years. Experience was earned through living, so perhaps if Leo lived long enough, saw as much as Fenrir had, then perhaps he could meet his close friend at the same level and understanding. Just maybe.

A small smile crept up onto Leo's face as he headed into the fight, with a future open for much improvement. If the last few months taught Leo anything, it was that this Tribe was where he belonged, and here, Leo might just live to see the day he actually had full confidence in himself. However, Fenrir wasn't going to allow that to happen over night, there was much for Leo to learn. The mercilessness of a fight was one of those. Leo wasn't quite ready for the graceful if ferocious movements Fenrir made, retracting his staff to push and block the first attack jabbing towards his chest. But the Sage didn't give up on the assault. Where Leo succeeded in blocking the strikes to his arms, mostly because they were close enough to his spear for him to parry, with or without slow reflexes, he also failed though, in blocking the attacks to his legs. When Leo stepped forward to strike back, or back to dodge a blow, Fenrir would hit the leg closest, the blunt wood causing more pain then Leo expected. Leo smiled seemed to retract, as did his ears, which flattened against the shepherd's skull. This training was tough, and his teacher was relentless, but gradually, as Leo traded more blows with Fenrir, receiving far more than he inflicted, the Shepard realised that this was just a taste of what was really out there. What real enemies, hoping to harm Leo, would be like. Just like the one met in the misty hills, the brutal she-wolf that had torn apart one of Leo's flock, and left him half-dead. The male shuddered to think of fighting someone like that again, but accepted that in the real world, that's what a fight for life or death would be like. Imagining that rather than facing his pack brother, Leo instead pictured an enemy, like the dark woman he'd faced before. Someone out to kill him. Leo felt something then, his reflexes to Fenrir's blows seemed to increase, imagining each hit might end his life, rather than just lightly bruise the boy. And when Leo's spear met and blocked each strike, his arms beginning to ache and strain, but hold true, he felt a little better. A small spark of confidence, or will to survive, hit Leo, and it became visibly obvious by his stance and expression, that Leo took the training more seriously, lashing out with his own spear again against Fenrir's limbs, trying to use his teachers method again him.

There was a job agreed upon by all the sages before Fenrir and one that all his students had to incorporate into their hearts. The necessity to kill, in this land where punishment for violence seemed to be of feral standings was reasonable. To give all the opening of mercy was foolish, to give none that chance would be savage. Leo came at him as if he was worried about hurting a friend. A battle was meant to be won. Out beyond the pack any fight was one for life. You'd be lucky to wake up after being knocked out. Fenrir had remembered the life of slavery. He remembered being abused, the pain brought out the instincts he would use to combat all obstacles.

Then after the child ended with several hard blows to his extremities that look kicked in. Eyes filled with such primal desire for life. Leo wanted to live. Leo wanted to win. Fenrir grinned as he took each blow to his limbs, each hit caused a light hiss of air from the force. The sage begun to use the wooden end like a spear, its blunt tip attempting to poke at the shepherd's torso.

A retraction would be necessary while he blocked each strike at his own form. In those breathing moments the teacher's weapon aimed for the side of Leo's knees and his hands on the weapon. Conflicts needed to be settled with ease. If one took too long then he could leave himself open for a surprise attacker's dagger.

He hoped to see how the boy could react to these attempts at disarming, if proper then they could increase the intensity further.

The fight was almost enjoyable, despite how Leo's mind seemed to imagine this more serious than simply training. How Leo's new confidence and comfort seemed to mirror in Fenrir, the teacher starting to grin as Leo fought back. Both appeared to be at a balance, but Leo was taught to expect things in the battle to always change. The enemy wasn't looking for stalemate, they were looking to defeat Leo, try to catch him off guard just like he was to them. He wasn't duelling with the branches of a tree, inanimate object that didn't care about any advance Leo made. He was fighting a trained Sage and very good warrior. So whilst Leo felt comfortable to shift his feet forward and back, go from snapping his spear towards Fenrir's legs and then back close to his chest to defend himself, he knew he couldn't keep up this routine for long. Fenrir wanted Leo to learn, not just succeed and gain confidence.

Reflexes kick in the moment the blunt end was thrust towards him, and the Shepard hopped back one step. Though in that moment, Fenrir's spear moved once again, swiping towards Leo's knees. Where they'd been positioned, Leo's legs were more open than he'd thought, and with a wince of pain, the staff snapped against Leo's knee, causing it to jolt against the boy's will. Whilst Leo refused to fall down, determined to bring himself back up from the attack. Then Leo's eyes caught the spear moving up to his own, a flickering motion to try and prize the weapon from Leo's hand. However, the Shepard refused, he was pulled along with his spear, but refused to let his thin fingers release from the wooden staff. Rather than let go, Leo tried to retaliate.
He released a growl, without even realising it, at Leo's grip grew harder on the spear, pulling it back with one arm, causing it, with the momentum of turning around from his stumbled position to bludgeon the blunt spear end against Fenrir's side. His whole body kept low during the instinctive swipe.

The key to any battle was reality, to recognize it and work with it. When you held no advantage but to run, then a wise man would run till his legs were nubs. Even tolerance for pain grew handy, when one would use their own forms to gain leverage then they will come out on top. Leo was learning the brutality of it all. His body would be bruised and battered till he could not get up in the morning. That would be a decent start.

Fenrir watched the student carefully. Each strike was blocked till the news fell under heavy fire. From then on the boy had little chance to retaliate. His refusal to lose his tool was honorable even leaving Fen's side open for a strike. The impact was breath taking to a degree. He could feel his muscles twinge slightly, that was a good sign. Each moment he grew more aggressive. When in that kneeling position Fenrir reeled his spear's blunt end to sllam the man's hip before swinging it just above his head. If it all worked out then Leo would most likely lose this spar.

Still for a man with no experience in true spear fighting, Leo was a talented man. Fenrir looked forward to seeing what the young sage held up his sleeve.

The blunt weapon impacted, hitting Leo's teacher with a snap, that made Leo almost smile. He'd hit, and it was a successful hit, one in a critical place, if they were in a real fight. It gave the boy confidence, perhaps confidence he could do without. Because, as Leo backed off, admiring his own improvements and how he'd struck Fenrir. But he wasn't focusing on the possibility of being struck again. The Sage was quick to respond to Leo's counter, and before the shepherd could block it, his hip was forced back by the blunt spear, causing Leo to begin falling back. The twist caused his footwork to change, and unbalance Leo. The moment he tried to right himself, the Shepard's bi-coloured eyes looked just in time to see the spear now arch up towards his face. It clattered against Leo's jaw, causing his body to lean to the side. That, along with his unbalanced feet, and Leo found himself on the ground, in a defenceless, prone position.

Taking a few breaths, Leo looked surprised up to Fenrir, at where this sudden win had come from. But, he took a moment to think, and the raised brow slowly dropped, Leo laughing awkwardly. He supposed there would always be a difference between the master and student. Dropping his shoulders, Leo pushed himself up to sit, rubbing his neck a little. "I-I l-lasted l... longer th-than l-last t-t-time, at-at least." Leo commented, smiling a little before dropping it. It was inevitable that he'd lose, but for a moment, the Shepard really thought he could win the battle. Sighing, Leo slowly got to his feet, glancing up to his friend, and bowing. "Th-thank y-y-you, f-for th-the, um, t-tr-training."
