The Lune was fuming as he dragging the criminal through the Fort by the scruff. Beside the golden leader his son walked, carrying Myra who was in even rougher shape than her kidnapper. She was stable for now but would need to be tended to immediately, already Morty had ran ahead to prepare her a bed and set to work. As they entered the Courthouse Remus turned to get the small girl into the healers experienced hands while Luca, tailed by the rest of the pack, led the group into the court room, a room that was rarely used.

A permanent snarl was plastered across his face, the emotion in the pit of his stomach boiling over through his body. He had already lost his mate and now this man had tried to take away his daughter, from Casa and then from this world. His baby girl had a hard fight ahead of her still, but Luca was already determined to see to it that Raine would be brought to justice before the night was over. Dragging the man along the old wooden floor the Lune dropped him in the center for all to see and judge. Leaning down over him he whispered and a low growl, “You try to move from this spot and you forfeit your right to trial.” One inch out of place and this mans life would end. Luca’s cream hands had been stained red before, and he certainly would not mind them being painted again in Raine’s blood.

As he turned to find two two specific faces he saw Isaac and Jace enter, Brita, Rumpa, and Mercy in tow. Glaring he wondered if the female had been involved in the matter. Opening his mouth he barked an order, “Howland, Jace. Guard this man and bring Brita up here too.” The guards moved into action, moving the female away from the pups and into the center of the room with Raine. In the corner of his eye he saw Night gather up the pups, including his own and Jace’s. Luca turned his back on the male, certain he would not lash out given his current injuries and the two wolves now within a foot of him ready to attack should he try anything. “This man has committed crimes against our pack, against our family. He stands accused of rape, physical harm, and kidnapping.” The three accusations made his fur stand on end and pained his heart. “All who can speak to these and any other charges please speak now.” His golden eyes searched the crowd, urging anyone with any information to speak.

OOC: Dated shortly after the Manhunt thread. Raine and Brita will now be on trial. For this round everyone is welcome to post once, but please only have characters who have been directly harmed by Riane, or who have OOC permission to speak on behalf of a character, speak up Shy Once all charges are said I will start the next round with new instructions!

Word traveled quickly among the dispatched soldiers of Casa di Cavalieri; their quarry had been found and captured. A chain of howls sounded throughout the forest and unclaimed territory directly surrounding the pack of the Knights, carrying the news to all who were in search of the scoundrel. They were being called back to the pack lands, Howland knew what came next. Still on two feet and clutching his pike, he executed an about-face and returned to Fort Kingsbury.

The guard arrived just moments behind the Lune and the rest of the initial congregation; it seemed Myra was with them and alive, but he prickled at the scent of blood. The man had hurt her. As the group paced toward the courthouse she was passed off to another member of the pack to have her wounds tended to while the grim business of justice was seen to in the court.

Howland followed his Lune and fellow knights indoors, hearing small chatter but listening for his king’s words above all. It was not long before Luca called for the help of the two guards – Jace and Howland. Nodding respectfully but keeping silent, he paced up near his king and took up stance in front of Raine. Although it would be thrilling to watch the drama unfold in the courtroom, he kept his back to the people that made up the court so his yellow eyes could remain trained on the dark Nigthshade criminal. Even if the man dared to try to lay a hand on their king despite his injuries, he would not get far with the trained guard looming over him, holding the long staff of his pike cross ways to bar any path the fiend might try to take.

Emotions that the male had never before experienced danced within him like a blazing, consuming fire as the boy walked beside his father, carrying the limp form of his sister cradled in his arms. Citrine eyes were hard set like stones, and a face belonging to a boy barely older than a yearling was aged with a mask of stress, anger, resentment, and above anything regret.

One incident in the past kept resurfacing in the mind of the wounded girls brother. It had been months prior, before any semblance of real tragedy had befallen the Knight boy. Remus' mother had scolded Myra for liking a man that she did not trust, and Remus, in all of his eternal stupidity, had sided with his sister and turned on his own mother in that moment, facing her to defend the sand furred girl. Now their mother was dead, and she could not know that she had been right all along, now Myra and Remus both knew that Lyris had been wise in her judgement, and neither of them would ever get the chance to tell her. What was worse in that moment still was that Remus was not sure that his sister would pull through.

He was frightened. When Remus had found his sister lying in a pool of her own blood, cold as ice in a bed of crimson snow, she had been conscious still, and he had done all that he could in that moment to retain her life, tying a tight tourniquet around the severed and bloodied stump of a tail she had retained. Seeing her like that gripped Remus in a way that he could not explain. His jaw clenched, he could never forgive the scum of the earth for what he had done to Remus' sister.

The boy carried Myra's bloodied form close to his chest, guarding her as though he could prevent her from dying by shear willpower as he brought her in to see Morty. Laying her down upon the examination table, the tall boy furrowed his brows and brushed a stray hair back from his sisters visage, and for a fleeting moment his expression was tender, before the cold stone face of bitterness returned to his features, and the boy turned and left the room. There was a trial to be held, and Remus would speak for the girl who at the moment could not speak for herself.

He wanted justice to be had, and in his eyes this only meant the death of the man who was already found guilty in his eyes. Returning to the court room, Remus heard his father call for anyone to speak, and he did not hesitate to barge forward from the door of the room, standing before his father and the dirt bag who had harmed his loved ones, hackles raised. "I will speak. This scum took my sister from the fort and when she resisted him, he attacked her. Dammit he cut off her tail! What kind of monster..." The male cut himself off with a curt growl as he turned to take a seat, eyes boring holes into the back of the defendant as he waited to see what the others had to say.

Raine Nightshade

If he had not been so sloppy with Myra, he would not have to endure such insolent behavior. But he had… he had made the grave mistake of trusting that bitch and look at where he was now. Was it any wonder why he never trusted a female? The one time he did, and it landed him with holes in his guts and being dragged through the dirt by a so-called king.

He snarled as he was jolted over a rock, and tried to reach over to hold his wounded and poorly bandaged side, but with his wrists bound as they were he could get no relief. The wounds oozed beneath the bandages; thin strips of cloth, his own shirt, barely keeping his lifesblood from seeping out. The blood had clotted well, but the rough treatment kept reopening the wounds.

He finally found some solace as he was dropped unceremoniously inside the courthouse. He grumbled and moaned as he sat up, resting his back against the wall and leaning his head back as he panted. His dark pelt was covered with a dusting of dirt and grime and everything else he had been dragged through, and he smelled like a stable. With the pack filing into the courthouse, he couldn’t have run if he wanted to, but still a big oaf of a guard took up a place in front of him to bar his way. He smirked and scoffed at the meathead, and was about to say something before he bit his tongue, unwilling to make his situation even worse. He turned his head away for a moment until he heard the soft muddled sound of Brita’s voice. It was an unintelligible murmur from her as she was being led by a guard up to the same place Raine, the Lune, and the meathead occupied. His carnelian gaze fell upon his sister’s chestnut form as she walked, eyes down, toward them.

Brita had given little resistance as she was ushered into the courthouse. It was no surprise to her when the guards came to arrest her and the pups. She knew Raine had fled because she was the one who warned him that Night had told Honrin about his crimes. She was supposed to look after Rumpa and Mercy, Raine’s children, and meet him at a rendezvous point in a fortnight, when attention on her had calmed down. That would never happen now.

At first she tried to fight when she was separated from the pups. She had not noticed her brother-turned-master, and in her meek way she looked at Luca to appeal to him, to beg to not be separated from her wards. It was then that she noticed Raine crumpled on the floor beside him and grew quiet, averting her eyes and literally tucking her tail between her legs. She allowed herself to be led by the guard with no more resistance, no more spirit.

Raine peered around Howland’s legs, eyes boring holes into Brita’s soul. Don’t you dare tell them. Don’t you dare say one word you worthless slut.

His attention was drawn away from his silent threats against his sister, though, when his first accuser stepped up to speak. Here is the beginning. He would have to sit here, prisoner, while others sullied his good name. And for what? All for assumptions and the word of a pathetic, useless girl. His eyes scanned the courtroom, looking for Night, but instead they locked on Remus. His lip curled up at the sight of the man – the man who found him lying in the woods, trying to patch his own wounds, and instead of helping him - a fellow pack mate no less – he fought him and took him prisoner. He never even stopped to ask what happened. For all they knew, he had saved Myra’s life. Hey, that was a good angle… he nearly stood up and blurted out a makeshift defense, but at the first twinge of a muscle he saw the guard’s grip on his deadly pike tighten, and Raine decided he better bide his time. His gaze shifted away from Remus, away from Howland, and once again rested on the demure form of his sister.

If nothing ever changed, there'd be no butterflies

The summoning howl that had rallied the entire pack was both a blessing and a bane to the ears of the no-longer-youngest Stryder. He'd been awaiting its cry for many weeks now - his sleep tormented by those white hands and orange eyes - wondering just which unfortunate victim would finally be brave enough to dare snitch. It hadn't been him. Son of kings and a queen, son of knights and warriors... a coward.

His dark auburn hands gripped around his companion's black shoulders tightly. Damon, his constant friend throughout the young Cavalier's life, had turned from a patient teacher to a mischievous friend and finally to an ever-patient care giver. Arlen's left leg would never bend the way it once had, and though months had passed since he had so foolishly thought to take on a bear, the leg showed little sign of ever getting better. Perhaps it won't, perhaps I'll always be confined to life as a cripple. The thought was horrifying to say the least.

Not quite so horrifying as the rage he saw in Raine's eyes when the pair finally caught up with the pack in the Courthouse. The felon lay on the floor behind the Lune, the strong father figure remaining between the boy and his old attacker. Arlen's green eyes locked onto his father's golden ones, refusing to look down, lest his weak courage fail him. Luca called for victims and witnesses. Who better to rat out the rat than he? When one brother stood forward to stand for their sister, the other stepped forward to stand for himself.

Arlen's hands fell from his dark friend, tears filling his eyes as he refused to look at any of his packmates, save his king. "Raine-," a knot formed at his throat to silence him. Not now. "I was not attacked... by the Syndicate." They would all know the story. Little Arlen Stryder, drunk and beaten up and left for dead at the edge of their territory. It'd been so easy to pin it on their enemies during wartime. No one thought to look deeper. "Raine. He took me to his room. Forced me to drink." Could he force the last charges? The damning ones that would strike the blow as sure as a blade? "He... He r-ra-." No. No he couldn't. Not today. What would his mother say? Suck it up and be a man. "He raped me, beat me senseless, and left me in the river to blame the Syndicate."

Arlen's eyes dropped to the floor, afraid to see the pain and pity and disgust he knew would surround him. He would see the end of the trial- the end of Raine. Then, he would leave.

All the fuss had the young girl rattled. The evening had been underway and she had been prepared for a relaxing night but instead she had heard something she never had heard before. Luca’s angry howl had sent shivers down her spine. She wasn’t sure what was going on but she knew that Raine, a man she had only seen in passing, was in deep trouble and Myra was missing with him. Had the man hurt Myra? Her innocent mind could not even comprehend the horrible things Raine had done. Not being fully trained, and only knowing some basic maneuvers with her staff the young wolfess had not gone running into the woods after the man with the others, instead she climbed up the new look out but the gates, holding her staff in shivering hands as she anxiously waited for them to return. If she caught sight of the male she would let everyone know where he was.

The spirits had blessed her, and the first sight she saw was that of Luca violently dragging Raine across the ground. Her turquoise eyes then landed on Remus carrying Myra’s petite figure, causing her to grimace at the sight of blood. What had happened? Not knowing how else she could help she waited for the group of packmates to walk through the gates and towards the courthouse before climbing down and joining the back of the line. Looking to the horizons he noted the sun setting and the moon rising. Perhaps the god and goddess would look down upon them and give Myra strength to pull through.

Slowly she waddled at the back, not wanting to get in anyone’s way. Eventually the group made their way into a room she had never seen used before. In the center the Lune stood, beginning whatever this meeting would entail. Since her arrival there had only ever been good ceremonies, except for the funeral for Luca’s mate, but this felt different. The fur on the back of her neck stood up as a female was brought to the center as well, Jace and Howland’s serious faces staring down the pair. Luca’s voice spoke and everyone around silenced. The words that came form the Lunes mouth, and then from the others that spoke, shocked Minerva. Her mouth fell open in shock and she clung to the training staff in her hands as though it might grant her some stability. How could someone do something so evil to so many?! Squinting her eyes shut she thought of Fenris the sun god. ‘If you exist please, please help us to overcome this evil. They don’t deserve this.’

Paid in sin and vice

Blood pounded in his ears, draining away a lot of the sounds of those going off to hunt Raine down. He stayed though, with the girl that clung to him like he was her lifeline, in a way he was. She cowered behind him as the accused was dragged into the hall, bleeding and battered and Honrin felt a sense of justice seeing his blood.

The fury only grew as voice after voice raised to condemn Raine's actions, he who had preyed on their young and innocent. It rippled outwards, he saw his mother snarl in outrage, dragging the male's companion in to face justice along with Raine. Then Honrin stepped forwards as Night shrunk back to surround herself with the young children. His voice raised, strong and condemning,

"I speak as the voice of my adopted sister Night, who is too frightened to speak for herself. This monster attacked her without provocation and raped her many times, terrorizing her in her own home and causing her to flee to Anathema for safety. Promising her that if she spoke to anyone about what he had done that he would do the same to those that she holds dear..."

The male cut off, for a moment too angry to even speak and slammed the staff in his hand against the floor, the sound echoing around the room,

"He must pay for what he has done, I call for his head!" He snarled loudly, long fangs bared and golden eyes blazing.

Speech. Thinking.

Casa was no stranger to those who would seek to harm them. The difference between Cavaliers and others, however, was how they handled it, and Fenris it would be handled. There was no way Luca would allow someone to play them like a fool and get away with it, and he knew that those under his leadership would not as well. With the beast on the floor and his possible accomplice joining him he was able to focus on the task at hand. The Cavaliers had been scorned a being vengeance seeking knights in black before, rather than lights of justice, and Luca would not have that name smeared under his ruling.

What came next he could never have expected. The Lune thought that his members trusted him, that he had a good handle on things, but clearly he couldn’t have been more wrong. As far as he had been aware Raine’s sins had taken place in the past day or so. As the accusations came his forceful snarl, a face of justice, slowly faded to one of shock. Not only had he tried to take Myra away from them, and slashed Night across the chest, he had stolen Arlen’s innocence and left him for the Syndicate, and done the same to Night! How had he been so naive to such actions in his own lands? The words tore at his heart and turned his stomach.

His eyes flickered down in shame as he turned to the female the monster had brought into the pack with him. With no kindness he spoke, “And what of you? What’s your place in his lies and horrific acts against my family? Did you help him? Did you know and not come to the aide of those who took you in?” The words were spoken unevenly, though he maintained his composure to the best of his ability, after all he had just learned that a man he had allowed into Casa had taken advantage of many of the youths under his wing. Before she could reply he turned his scared face back to the monstrous male, “And what do you have to say for yourself?” Although his heart screamed for his hands to wrap around Raine's neck and grant him a slow death he would allow a moment of self defence. Luca would not stoop to his level, he had many young eyes watching him.

Raine Nightshade

Raine remained indifferent as the pack amassed before them with the sole purpose of persecuting him. Even now the only remorse he felt for his actions was simply how careless he had become. His ego had become so inflated that he had tried new things with Night as he worked to condition her into his little pet, just like he had done to Brita. But there was one thing he had not counted on with Night; she had never been his adoring sister, she had not known him before he threw his innocence into the rubbish. Brita’s broken mind still held a candle for the young brother she once knew, and so despite all he had done to her, part of her still loved him. Night needed to survive, and had found the strength to tell someone about what was going on.

When Arlen stepped up, the monster looked positively amused. His cold, carnelian eyes bore down on the young man, remembering the sniveling wreck he had been the day Raine took him in his chambers. If he could paint that picture for the whole pack to see, nobody would want him anymore. He chuffed a sarcastic noise when Arlen stepped forth and told his story, but otherwise remained silent.

Brita stood near her brother, and master. Most of these people still did not know that she was not the freed slave that Raine claimed her to be, but his own enslaved sister. There was still much space between herself and her life long captor, especially with the guards in the way. Yet that space did not stop her from shrinking back when Luca turned on her to interrogate her.

When he spun to face her it frightened her, and she gasped, her ears nearly disappearing in her mane. She seemed to wilt, and made herself as small as possible. She opened her mouth to speak, but no sound would come out. When he turned from her almost immediately to speak to Raine, she relaxed some, but not by much. Her eyes flicked to peer at Raine, and she pressed herself against the wall. Raine’s eyes flicked towards her, and she knew it was a warning to say nothing, so she did just that.

Finally with the questions turned on him, it was time to provide his defense. He took a step forward, but Howland tensed and made a movement and Raine did not come forth any more. That calm, confident mask came over him, that same act he had used the whole time to fool everybody. He was serene, sincere. He opened his palms in a placating gesture, but could do little with his bound wrists. My lord, I say it is not true, he began slowly. First his eyes flicked towards Arlen. This boy… while I am sorry for what he’s been through, he has it all wrong. Everybody knows Arlen has no memory of what happened to him. It is why we have all pitied him for that incident, and have all forgiven him his foolishness of wandering by the borders when we knew the Syndicate was afoot. Perhaps he needs somebody to blame, and this is a convenient time. Besides the fact that I would never perpetrate such an indecent act, I certainly would not have done so with… he gestured to Arlen, and then as an afterthought said, with a man… or a boy.

As for Honrin, he said, eyes flicking to the pale herdsman. I understand he must uphold his duty and he believes what he has been told. But he is telling a story for another. Why does she not come and say so herself? Because she knows it is not true. She is a child making up a story for attention, but she can’t face me in court because her guilt would be too much. I never touched Night, and there is no proof that I did. I hadn’t even spoken three words to her before her trip to Anathema, and nobody has witnessed anything different. Come, anybody speak up if I am lying!

His eyes peered out at the court and all the people that would see him torn to shreds. When his gaze crossed Jace he immediately looked away and for once faltered, the reality of his fate reflected in her burning eyes gave him pause. As for Myra… my beloved Myra…he paused and sighed longingly, finding his confidence again. He looked down at his hands, still caked with her blood. For a moment his eyes glistened, The pain of what I had to put her through. He gulped down a sob. It’s not what you think. She was bitten… bitten by a snake. I’m sure when she comes to and is well she can tell you all. When he looked up again, his eyes were misty. I never wanted to hurt her, but I had to do it to save her life! Her beautiful, beautiful tail… my beautiful Myra… will she be alright? Tell me she will be okay. Did I stop the poison in time? Come, tell me, if any of these accusations were true, then why would a monster like me not have simply soiled Myra and taken her when I wanted her, hmm? He was growing passionate, furious. Why would I have bided my time, remained patient until Myra was ready?! As I told Myra, Night probably has a childish infatuation and has made up these lies because she was turned down. I am sorry that she is hurt but what she says are all lies. Myra… after his passionate outcry, he became sad once again and lowered his head.

Finally, as an afterthought, he muttered, Brita knows nothing because I have done nothing. His sister shrank at the mention of her name again. For a moment he had deflected the attention from her, but it had come around again. He did not want her to speak, so she lowered her head to keep from looking at Luca’s furious mien.

Word Count ♞ 177 ::

Words were always wind, always. They could be distorted and shaped, cultivated into specific arrangements like eager grasping plants. Those who learned to see without seeing and hear without hearing would find the truth among falsity for they knew what to search for.

The female fought them until she caught sight of the man in captivity. Everything went out of her at that moment, like a breath of air had blown itself out. She watched and caught every cringe, every shudder and submission.

And when darker amber eyes met her own, she saw the fear there and knew that the accusations were true. Burning like soot and ash her lips curled upwards to reveal her yellowed fangs.

A maelstrom erupted over his denunciations and the aging female stalked forwards a pace or two, leaving Issac to hold the cowering beaten woman. Night was trying to speak, drowned out by the ravings of Casa's outrage.

She turned on them, fury boiling in her stare and her voice cut through all of them, bouncing off of the walls and the ceiling,

SILENCE!

Shoot to thrill, play to kill

I got my bow at the ready

Gonna fire at will

It's always darkest before the Dawn.

*********

It was all her fault. He hurt Myra because she had told Honrin what he had done to her. He finally made good on his promise to hurt the others if she ever spoke of it. The dark fae knew she was the reason for all of this. If she had just kept her damn mouth shut and did whatever Raine said, then maybe Myra wouldn’t be in such bad condition.

The dark fae couldn’t face them, not when she knew it was all her fault. She stayed at the back with the pups as the others spoke, distracting the little ones while also keeping an ear out for what everyone had to say. Remus was the first to speak up for his sister and was quickly followed by Arlen. His confession surprised the dark fae though. She stood, looking back at her friend as he spoke of how Raine had done the same things to him. Night shook her head, trying to calm herself down as Honrin spoke on her behalf. She motioned Issac over to her, asking him to take the pups out of the room. This wasn’t something they needed to be a witness to.

She had been content with keeping quiet, not wanting to face the pack, but when Raine spoke up to “defend” himself and claimed everything they said were lies, that was when she knew she had to speak. The only problem was, everyone was trying to talk all at once. Jace’s booming voice roared over them all, demanding silence.

Black paws carried the Hushhowl girl forward, closer to where Raine was. She stared him down, hate clear in her eyes. Night had no reason to fear him any longer and there was no way in hell she was going to let him get off the hook for hurting Arlen and Myra. If her own confession would condemn him, then she needed to speak.

Green hues were locked on her abuser as she laid everything out in the open before her packmates. You’re right. It is guilt that kept me from speaking for myself. Because I was convinced you took Myra and hurt her because I finally opened my mouth. I’m speaking now because I know you’re threat was meaningless. You were going to use whoever you wanted whenever you wanted. Her lips pulled back to reveal pearly whites as she spoke. I know Arlen is telling the truth because the first time you raped me, you did it in that same river so no one would find your scent on me. You would also force me to drink as well so I wouldn’t struggle as much. Cold eyes glared daggers at the man before her, so full of hate as she spat out her words. And you’re right about another thing, I am a child. I still have yet to even have my First Blood and you have already raped me how many times?! I lost count after the first week.

The dark fae turned to face her packmates, shame and anger both clear in her features as she removed her shirt, exposing the crossed scars forming a large “X” across her chest. The scar on my face and my shoulder were from a loner while on my way back to Casa. The marks on my chest were given to me by Raine as punishment for leaving and to mark me as his. Iorek had seen the scars I came back to Casa with, this was done while I was inside Casa. Night turned back to look at Raine. Is that enough proof for you Raine? Or do I need to go into more detail of each time you forced yourself on me? Her gaze fell upon Brita, staring the woman down before looking at Luca. I have no doubt Brita knew everything that was going on. Raine told me himself that he had Myra and Brita on his side. He worked hard to keep both me and Arlen quiet, I’m sure he’s done the same to her for however long he’s had her with him. She had nothing more to say at the moment, too full of shame and hatred to fully think straight but knowing she wanted to watch Raine die.

Oh mercy me. All I see is a monster

The entire search for the missing pack member she'd taken as an apprentice went by in a blur. The call that Myra had been found allowed just a sliver of relief to edge its way in past the cold hard rage that'd dominated her mind for most of the manhunt. It was also conveyed that Raine had been found and taken into custody as well. Immediately she'd turned Elda around to return back to the Fort, not knowing whether her skill as healer might be needed or not, all she knew was the itch under her fur to rip the monstrous male apart

The longer her the thoughts of his presence in the pack fermented within her mind, the more horrified she grew. Her children, her babies, all three of them, had been exposed to Raine on varying levels. What if...had he? No, no...nothing about their behavior had changed. But the terror of what could have been gripped her heart, making it difficult to breathe.

Once arrived back in the Fort, she caught sight of her former apprentice. The Medic couldn't withhold a gasp of dismay, moisture clogging her vision as she saw the crumpled, tailless figure being carried by her brother Remus. A hand lifted to cover her muzzle. In a small corner of her mind she couldn't help but feel as if this were her fault. She should have trained Myra better. Kept a better watch on the goings ons in the pack.

In Luca's hands, being dragged across the ground by the scruff, was Raine. Red filtered into her vision and she curled her lips. For once, she felt no sympathy for another and the wounds they bore. He deserved them.

Veri followed her Lune into the Courthouse and then into the actual courtroom, a place they'd rarely, if ever used. Myra was passed off to Morty, who shared a glance with the sandy gold Medic. She gave the older healer a nod to acknowledge she'd be there as soon as she could.

Quietly she watched the events unfold. That is, until Brita entered the room by way of escort. There was a fire to the woman as she argued the separation of the pups from her side, but the instant the woman realized Raine was present....dread filled her stomach like stones as she saw the way the female curled in on herself and shut down.

Veri stayed silent where she stood, listening with pricked ears to each accusation and confession. Arlen's...well. And then Night....for a moment, she felt sick. Phantom pains spasmed across her body, memories flaring like poisonous snakes to pummel at her thoughts.

Her breath quickened and she had to dig her claws into the meat of her bicep just so she could think. All of this was toxic, for those personally involved and for a previous victim such as she'd been.

How had she not seen the signs sooner?

Her orbs never left Brita. She saw every cringe. Every flinch. Every ducking of the head, every cowering of her tail. It made Veri shake with distress to the point that she had to say something or she'd explode. Veri glanced in Night's direction once the dark pup had finished with an addition accusation toward Brita. Despite how foul it felt to counter it, she couldn't just let it go at that.

"Why's your sister so afraid of you then. She'd cowering an awful lot for someone with nothing to hide." Jace's accusation came as a shock. Sister? Oh, Fenris...this really was too much like her own hell. Finally she stepped forward, lifting her gaze to her Lune briefly before it strayed to Brita once more.

"I'd like to speak on behalf of someone too conditioned and scared of her tormentor to defend herself from him." mixed blue orbs scanned the room before she took another few steps closer to Brita, motioning to the woman who all but wanted to press into the floor beneath her feet and disappear, for how much she'd shrank into herself. Veri's hand shook visibly from distress and for a moment she wanted to clamp it to her side before she continued, her tone strengthening with passion with each word.

"She's not reacting like that because she's scared of us. Oh, she might be, a little. No, she's cowering because Raine simply looked in her direction. She's more terrified of him, and what he'll do if she squeals, than she is of an entire pack. That's not the demeanor of someone who's willingly deceived us. She's just been trained to keep her head down and obey his word as law."

Veri lifted her gaze to her Lune once more, and then lowered it to pierce Raine. She held out her scarred wrists for him to see, for everyone to see. "You can't hide the chains of slavery from someone who's worn them before." a slight curl came to her muzzle, baring her canines in a cold smile. "I say that Brita is a fourth victim. Perhaps one of the first."

The monsters sister was useless in the moment, cowering and looking to Raine. Luca knew damn well that her looks to her brother meant that she was going to do whatever he wanted. She was like a pup. When he and his siblings had been small they had played the same games with their parents. The only way to end the lies was usually to outsmart the ringleader. At the very least he didn’t have to snoop out who was running the show, Raine was more than capable of doing that by himself. The tough part, however, would be outsmarting him. Or so the Lune thought.

Raine’s voice appeared innocent and his body language was as open as it could be in his compromising position. This was a classic instance of a snake trying to charm his way out. It would not be Luca who would decide his fate however, the Lune wanted to be smart about this. He had seen how a trial could go bad, how it could break apart relationships and cause the foundation in Casa to rot. He would learn from the mistakes of the past, this would be a fair trial despite how badly he wanted the man dead. He had trust that his members would make the right decision and that those who’s opinions were not the majority would see that it was not simply a single vote that turned the tide.

As the captive spoke a general sense of outrage seemed to build in the court, voices growing and snarls erupting from all around. The Lune himself glared down at the dark hued male and spoke to him, “You would bet your life that two of our youths are lying and a snake with poison, something I have never seen around Casa, struck my daughter?” His words were lost to all others in the herd of noise, but all was brought back to attention when Jace, the eldest female of the pack, demanded silence. Instinctively he turned to the crowd of voices to add to his Aunt’s call for order, but before he could speak he realized why Jace had been so adamant in her command.

Golden eyes spotted the dark figure as she moved forward and he held his tongue. Although Night held no adult rank, she would have the floor. It was her right as a primary voice in this case, and Luca eagerly listened in hopes that her voice would shut down Raine’s pitiful claims. As the words came, however, he found himself wanting to take back his eagerness. Instead he wished that he could take the girl’s pain away, that he could go back in time and find out just what this monster had been up to before he could harm the youths of the pack.

This man had picked his victims carefully. He had chosen the most vulnerable. Those who were still coming to terms with who they were. Young canines wanted to please others, they wanted to fit in. Raine had taken advantage of that. When he was about to speak again a different voice stopped him, a voice he had not thought he would hear. As she asked to speak Luca nodded his permission. The healer was of high rank and had been with the pack as long as he could remember. Her words made him rethink how exactly Brita fit in.

His lips curled up, “Put some space between them then. See how she does when she can’t rely on him for instruction.” Bringing his eyes to Veri he spoke, “You question her then tell us what you think.” Perhaps if Veri could get through to her they could get a better picture of what was happening. Raising a hand for attention he continued the trial at hand, “Cavaliers. I ask you to consider what you have heard so far. If you have questions, ask them of this man now. Otherwise, speak now if you believe this man is guilty of what he is accused.”

OOC: Everyone is now welcome to speak up. Your character can ask a clarifying question of Raine or say if they think he is guilty. Veri will be the only character questioning Brita as there is a pre-planned reaction.

Optime | Fort Kingsbury (Courthouse) | cNPC: Mako (+1,506)

Takes place after the this thread.

Ignore this giant wall of Teagan reactions. TL;DR: Teagan is angry but remains silent for now.

He had better be thanking his gods, had been the words that had repeated themselves within her skull when they had found him, that traitorous, cowardly snake that her father had dragged through the Fort. She had seen what that monster had done to her little sister, and it had boiled her blood. Her teeth had flashed, and, had her father not already had the man under his iron-grip, Teagan might have had the opportunity to give him a piece of her rage.

Mako’s firm grip on her bicep to stay her mounting, protective fury had reminded her of the Cavalier way though. They were not barbarians. The monster would be brought before the pack, for his peers to know of his crimes and to judge him by them, to say whatever pathetic bit of peace he had to say before they would condemn him. There would be no “if,” no “might,” no “possibly.” He would be held accountable for his crimes. Teagan would make sure of it, be it by the pack’s decision or by her own hands.

No one hurt her family.

She had followed into the Courthouse and further into the courtroom after her father and the rush of other Cavaliers. She was bare, without her cloak, without her sword, not bothering to collect either upon returning to the Fort. Time would not be wasted for frivolous formalities or items. Her fingers curled, her claws digging into the palms of her hands as she stood, canary eyes glaring down at the monster as Howland and Jace were given orders.

If he dared to try to escape, she knew he would not survive to his freedom. Every Cavalier gathered that was loyal to their pack and Myra would be upon him in an instant. Herself included, and, if she got ahold of him, she would not need her sword for the justice she sought for her little sister. He looked to be injured—by Myra’s hand, she had hoped—and, if he had any intelligence left in him, he would stay where her father had dropped his pathetic body.

The monster’s sister, Brita, was dragged in, and, when the young children that belonged to the wretched mongrel were herded and gathered with her newest siblings and the young Wolfe, her father’s voice boomed and echoed in the courtroom for all to hear. Upon hearing that there was more to the monster’s crimes than just kidnapping and mutilating her sister’s tail, Teagan felt a growl rumble at the back of her throat. Beside her, Mako moved closer, his own icy gaze hardened by the new bit of information.

Remus spoke first, the boy still covered in their sister’s blood. Myra had apparently tried to fight back, and had been rewarded terribly for defending herself. Teagan felt her lips curl, but, at the sudden sound of her other brother speaking up, her canary gaze shot to him. And, what he had to reveal, it hit her like a punch to the face.

He… She felt every muscle in her body begin to shake with her anger as her canary eyes rounded upon the monster that bled all too slowly on the courtroom’s floorboards. He…!

Her onyx ears fell flat against her hair and she could feel the fur on the back of her neck stand. The villain before them had not only assaulted one of her siblings, but two?! She remembered it well, the state Arlen had been in after they had found him. How broken he had been when they had talked to one another. Everything…it made sense now.

If her claws had been able to press any harder into her palms, she was sure she would have broken the tough skin of her paw pads.

Honrin’s accusation broke her out of her heated stare, revealing a third victim in all of this. This man—monster, knew no bounds. Of Casa di Cavalieri’s shifted youth, three had fallen victim to this vile creature. For the few that remained, if he had not been caught trying to steal away her little sister, Teagan was sure it would have only been a matter of time.

Such a thought made her heart clench. Her apprentice, young and naïve and still learning to defend herself, would have been a perfect victim for this monster. The thought had her eyes searching for the young Griffith, quietly pleading that she did not speak. Two of her own siblings and then the parentless Night to the mix was bad enough. If Minerva spoke, Teagan was sure she would have not been able to contain her boiling anger.

The man would have been dead or she would have been put to the ground for attempting to murder him in front of everyone.

When her father turned to question Brita, the woman looked scared, though, it seemed her loyalty to her monster of a bloodkin lied stronger than the injustices that he had been accused of. Her silence would lead to her being labeled an accomplice; guilty by association. If she would not speak for herself, then she, by all means, deserved whatever fate would become of someone found “guilty.”

The wretched beast spoke when the Lune turned upon him next, and, upon hearing the slimy words that dripped from his tongue, Teagan wished her father had not asked. Lies. All of it. Only someone trying to save their pathetic hide would so casually dismiss such a thing. There was no sympathy in his tone. It was a front, pretty words meant to pacify. The way he so callously acted as if Arlen was insignificant and making up the horrible tale, it nearly caused her to speak, to yell and defend her little brother’s word.

How dare he! How. Dare. He!

She knew her brother! He irritated her, frustrated her, pushed her buttons, but he would not lie about something like this just for attention or blame someone just to blame them!

He discounted Night’s victimization next, calling the Hushhowl a liar as well. And when he moved onto speak her sister’s name, she wished they would have cut out his tongue. He did not have any right to speak of Myra in such a way! The creature played out a story that only the foolish would believe, had even gone so far as to pretend to be worked up about the matter. Teagan saw through it though. The man knew his fate already, and his pathetic attempts to spare him of it would only deepen the Cavaliers’ hatred in him.

Wait until Myra was “ready?” Teagan knew why he hadn’t waited. The evidence was seen clearly in the two motherless children he had randomly brought back to the pack. He had made a mistake, had impregnated some other poor female that had fallen prey to his lecherous ways. With the three victims being young and male, it was clear of what his type preferred, what disgusting fantasies that he delved into.

With Myra, Arlen, and Night, he had tried to be smart. Male, Arlen would be unable to produce anything from their encounter. Having yet to experience their first heat, Myra and Night were not able to bear children either. No physical evidence could be brought forth from any of their encounters because of the specific prey he had chosen to feast upon and ravage.

The man was a monster, through and through.

Voices of the outraged Cavaliers began to climb and build until the elderly Wolfe woman demanded them to cease. Teagan’s fiery gaze flicked to Night when she stepped forward, having apparently found her voice to speak up for the injustices that had been made against her. She spoke with conviction, perhaps empowered by Arlen’s testimony and the pack’s outcry for their youths’ defiled innocence, and her words only further cemented the monster’s fate.

Jace spoke out then, questioning the ever-silent Nightshade sibling. To her surprise though, Veri spoke at the woman’s defense—no, explained why Brita had reacted the way she had. A victim as well? Teagan let her hard gaze settle upon the quivering, cowering female.

Her father ordered the two to be separated then, Veri to question the supposed victim-turned-accomplice out of view of her brother. The Lune did not allow for the trial to stop there though, his golden gaze turning upon the pack and asking that they speak.

She felt Mako’s gaze upon her, the Recruit wondering if the Stryder would speak her thoughts. Teagan’s icy glare settled firmly on where Veri questioned Brita though. Teagan knew what her answer would be, and her clenched teeth begged to part and let her opinion known on what to do with the snake that they had caught. The warrior princess remained silent though, waiting for his victims to have the first say as to what to do with their attacker.

Aniki entered the hall right after rubbing Peachblossom down—she had ridden him enough to make his mouth foam and his body become sleek with sweat. When she entered the room, she could almost taste the bloodlust. Never had she been in a single room with so much hatred in it. Never had she felt this burning desire for murder. Although, in this case, it should be called justice. She walked towards the front of the room, softly pushing others aside, and watched the trial proceed.

She recognized the speaker immediately, he was obviously their Lune's son. He spoke of an event that had happened before she had arrived at Casa, one that she definitely would have remembered. He stood nervously, shaking slightly and crying as he recounted what had happened. As soon as he said it, that one word that everybody was both waiting expectantly and dreading to hear, the room exploded. Murmurs erupted, barely loud enough for Aniki's sharp ears to make out. Demon! How could he! Kill him! Die, devil!

She shook her head and growled at the man in the center of the courtroom. She shook her head and listened again as the next wolf came up. It was the scarred, white wolf that she had seen around a lot, but had never conversed with. Her ears perked forward when he said he spoke for his adopted sister. She jumped slightly when he slammed his staff into the floor and this time, joined the murmurs that broke out. Devil! Off with his head! Just kill him already, he doesn't deserve to see the light of day! What the fuck is wrong with him?"

She nodded when their Lune snarled and curled her lips back to expose her teeth in response. Raine stood and began to speak in his defense. But to everyone in the crowd, he was a wolf no more, just a fucking demon in the form of a wolf. No wolf could possibly be that fucked up and still be a wolf. Aniki snarled, deep in her throat, and the noise reverberated through the hall. Other members of the pack voiced protests as well, in the form of words, snarls, growls, and whines. She waited until he was done and snarled with the other members, growling and practically spitting in fury. Then Jace turned to them and yelled at them. Immediately, everybody fell silent and listened quietly, only whispering to their neighbors.

TL;DR: Gar's thoughts are "Son of a bitch" and justice

Optime | Courthouse | December | Day
409

Garrett and Spencer returned from the manhunt. He was surprised to learn that there was a trial. He thought that court was only common in D.C. But he noticed quickly that there didn't seem to be much preparation and processing of the guilty; Raine was dragged in there. Back home, there was a judge and a jury. There were what one called "defenders" to try and defend the guilty though the male had the knowledge from the defenders themselves that they didn't do what they were supposed to, instead of making sure they were innocent, the defenders often made sure that they could prove the guilty was innocent, even if they weren't. But that didn't seem the case in Casa di Cavalieri.

The fucking bastard had raped children? And the son of the leaders? He had also stolen the daughter of the leaders away as well and cut off her tail. There was also proof of his transgressions towards Night. The male was nailed six ways to Sunday and even the defenders would give up on this case. The Nightshade had dug himself deeo into a hole and his attempts at defending himself were futile. Even the jury and judge in D.C. would all vote "not guilty" and the male would be killed. The warrior disliked rapists - well hated them - and if the man got away - which wasn't likely - there were probably others, the Masquerade bastard included that would dish out some vigilante justice, probably death. The brindle enforcer crossed his arms, knowing that the man would be brought to justice or the city boy would lose his faith in justice.

Then, Veri came out and said that the woman, Brita whom was apparently his sister was the son of a bitch's slave. The peridot-eyed Cadet hadn't dealt much with slavers in D.C. though he had seen some victims of domestic violence. The man had descended into a another circle of hell. He had enslaved his own sister? And the woman looked terrified of him which often pointed to her having been abused by the man. Oh hell, he was going down for multiple counts of rape and now slavery, not to mention domestic violence. And then the Lune asked for the Cavaliers to make their voices heard and he quipped, He must have done a lot of things to her to make her so afraid of him. The jade-eyed Cavalier mused as his eyes narrowed at the man.

Raine Nightshade

The fiend was smug. Smug as shit. Even with his hands bound and his ribs bleeding, even with the pain of the stab wounds Myra gave him lancing up his side and making the muscles pull and tighten, he thought they could not touch him. Raine was always untouchable, he would always find his way out of any situation. He had done it time and time before, though there had never really been a situation quite of this magnitude. Still, that did not phase his ego.

When his cute little speech of accusations and denouncements was complete, the court was astir with anger. The scent of testosterone, hate, and the predatory instinct to kill was rife in the air and would be enough to make even the toughest man cower. Still, Raine did not connect to the fact of just how bad his plight really was. The roar within the courthouse became so loud that that withering bitch Jace had to step up and silence the group. He watched her out of the corner of his eye because he still could not make eye contact with her, and at once the room silenced at her command. He smirked. If they were so easily cowed by this dried up old bat, they didn't have the balls to hurt him. This was all for show, to frighten him. He would be packed up and on his way before nightfall.

But when he looked out over the room of people to see just why she silenced everyone, that smug grin faded and he swallowed hard. He had stood up there, arrogant and invincible as ever, and refuted the claims made by the mere children. He was confident in the damage he had done to Night, and that she would never have the gall to take the stand for herself. They couldn't convict a man on hearsay! But now the dark female padded up in front of everyone, at his very challenge, and began to tell her story.

He cursed himself and his challenge, but it was such a clever defense at the time. Now the girl stood before everyone, telling the intimate details of what had happened to her. Even as he realized this water might be a bit hotter than he first thought, he still got a sick sense of satisfaction watching his worthless victim have to relive everything she went through, and humiliate herself by showing her weakness before the court. Now everyone in the pack would know the deepest details of it all, just like Arlen, and they would forever look at them with pity.

But what's more, Raine had a few patterns to his assaults, and as Night told her story they aligned with Arlen's. Raine did not realize this fact, but it was giving legitimacy to what the two were testifying, even beyond just their word. His pattern of getting them intoxicated so it would be harder to resist, so he could violate their bodies and they would be conscious but helpless to fight back. He scowled and turned his eyes away from her, her weakling attempt at incriminating him wasn't worth his time.

And then someone else came to the front. A disgustingly scarred woman with pale yellow fur. He did not know her well, but he had seen her around the pack. She was repulsive with all those scars. She had always been safe from him, he wouldn't touch her with a ten foot pole. But why was she here? To stand up and speak in Brita's defense. This truly caught his attention and outraged him. Everything in the man lit up and he jerked upright, a pain from his wounds lancing up his side. His lips peeled back and he growled at Veri, the insolence of her words! You lying bitch! he barked in outrage, and his guard, Howland, gave him a warning shot to the ribs. He doubled over, coughing against the pain.

As he gasped for air and waited for the pain to subside, the Lune was back in action again. He asked if he was going to bet his life on that defense, and Raine did what he could to stand straight again and stare Luca in the eyes. He was losing his composure now, that faux nice guy mask cracked and crumbled. His eyes were narrow as he glared at Luca, no respect for his rank or station, and he couldn't help but show his teeth. Of course I'd bet my life on it because it's the TRUTH! he roared the last word at the king, and was promptly and unkindly shoved back against the wall by Howland.

What? No! he stammered as the guards obeyed their Lune and pulled Brita away, putting a blockade of bodies between the two of them so that ugly bitch could question her. He was growling audibly now. Of course she's been fucking abused, she was a slave! He cried out. Until now, he had always been confident in the conditioning he had put Brita through. But now, now that he was in restraints and she was separated with all these do gooders around them, he didn't know anymore. Leave her alone, he yelled in his rough voice. He thrashed as he ranted and raved, unable to move much against his restraints and the guard that was now pinning his shoulders to the wall. He had gone from composed sociopath to psychotic animal in the blink of an eye, and it was just one more bit of evidence that went against his character in this trial. He didn't even have the wit to try to deny Night's claims, so frightened he was of them having Brita now. You people are evil! You're torturing her with what you're putting her through! And what about my kids? Where are my children? They were here and now I don't see them. Inhumane! This is inhumane! You're all lawless women torturers! Child abusers!

Veri Secanti

Oh mercy me. All I see is a monster

With Luca's declaration to separate brother from sister, Veri gave her Lune a nod of acknowledgement upon his request. An ear twitch in Raine's direction, but she otherwise ignored him. She couldn't believe she'd helped him win Myra over, aiding him as she had with catching the mare and taming her. It made her stomach feel sick.

The discussion with Brita went about as well as Veri had expected. Actually, better than she'd expected. There had been a glimmer of strength that she'd seen, struggling to peak through the years of indoctrinating and conditioning she'd received from someone so close to her. Near the end, Brita had broken into tears and crumbled against the wall.

It was a hard spectacle to watch, but Veri swallowed and continued to hold her head up. No further words would soothe the abused female. Still, she'd gotten what she'd needed. She motioned to the guards once again for them to gather the inconsolable woman up and help her back to the main part of the court, with the sandy gold Medic leading the way. Even once they were back amongst the others, she remained close to Brita, offering her own body as a shield between the broken down female and her tormentor.

It was visible in the way her hands shook at how distressed Veri still felt. She had to swallow, hard, before her lips could move to form words, her blue gaze on Luca. "I've finished speaking with Brita. She never said it outright. But she might as well have. Raine has tortured Brita to the point that she won't outright defy him, even now. She's willing to trade her possible freedom and plead for them to be released. She attempted to barter, that the two pups could remain here and she'd take Raine far, far away, sacrificing herself so Raine wouldn't hurt anyone else. Despite everything he's done, Brita still loves him. And I understand why, even if none of you can."

Veri straightened herself a little. "Brita is yet another sufferer of Raine's horrors. Brutalized so much, that she follows his every whim just to placate him. I plead that she be given clemency, pardoned of all crimes she's done in Raine's name, on the account that all actions were done under extreme duress and therefore forced." her passion on this was palpable, for reasons they all now knew.

With Veri’s identification of Brita’s real label, Raine began to lose his composure, calling out an insult to the healer. In response Luca turned, his lip curling in warning and then fading away to neutral as Howland jabbed the man in the ribs. Nodding his approval the Lune added, “Keep this storyteller in line. I will not have him throwing salt in wounds.” What he had done was bad enough, If he wasn’t going to defend himself properly then he would lose his speaking privileges.

Unfortunately, Raine had not realized this conclusions yet, lashing out verbally at the King himself in a roaring voice. Golden eyes glared at the male but once again Howland was one step ahead, moving the monster into a pinned position so that he was unable to lash out again. Rage began to fill in Luca and internally fought it back. He needed to be the one in control. There was no way he was going to allow this beast to get the better of him, bringing him down to his level. If he lost his cool now then how could his members say he did his best to make this fair.

His anger did not have time to fester, as the monster began to loose himself even more as he ordered the separation of him and his sister. Suddenly he began cussing and making wild claims about the Cavaliers. Stepping towards the man, who was still held in place by Howland, the Lune spoke, his golden eyes staring down into the soul of the beast. “Your children are in better care if how you treated my children is any testament to your parenting skills.” He hissed in a faint voice. “And as you can see, women here have a strong voice and are respected. Something you seem not to understand.”

Veri’s presence brought his attention away once more, but before she spoke he shot down Raine once more, “Now watch and see how you should treat others.” Turning his golden gaze to the healer he nodded a motion to go ahead and his mouth closes in silence. He waited for her to finished speaking completely, taking in her words and nodding in understanding as she explained what he had found. Although he fully trusted Veri he wished that Brita had said something solid about what her involvement was. Still, there was one way he might just get what he needed to hear. Turning to look from Teagan to Grynn, “As members of the Brotherhood I call on you now to act as my council. What do you deem to be the punishment for Raine based on the testimonies you have heard.”

TL;DR: Teagan votes death by hanging for Raine.

Canary eyes watched as Veri spoke with Brita [M]. Though she couldn’t hear much of what was spoken over the rest of the Cavaliers and Raine voicing their thoughts. From the looks of things, it didn’t appear as if the Medico was getting through to the Nightshade sister. If what Veri had said was true, then Brita was just as much of a victim as the yearlings were…so why did it look like Brita was not willing to cooperate? Raine continued to scream and yell, perhaps trying to botch the interrogation between the Officer and his sister. The fact that he reacted in such a way—

She felt Mako lean close to her. “He doesn’t want her to talk,” Mako whispered into her floppy ear.

“If he thinks her word will be what ultimately damns his fate, he is mistaken,” she murmured back coldly, nose crinkling as she let out a sharp exhale as she crossed her arms over her chest. The whole court was alive, shouting and voicing their cries for justice for their youth and against Raine’s accusations of the pack as a whole.

His actions were his own undoing. The Cavaliers would have none of it, even if there had only been one victim.

Veri’s questioning finished, and she returned to speak before the pack and their Lune of her findings. It appeared that Raine’s own sister was a victim to his malevolent ways. Teagan frowned at what the Officer had to reveal, and the cold scowl she afforded the crying Nightshade expressed her disgust in the woman.

Did she not see and hear what Raine had done? Did she really believe her dying would stop the monster her brother had become? He had taken advantage of innocent children, and had gone so far as to harm them when they stepped out of line. The two children he had in his possession were likely from another rape victim! Brita’s death would not satisfy the loud cry for justice that the Cavaliers wanted.

She was foolish and arrogant to believe that her life would amount to Raine’s or pardon him of his crimes.

Her brows furrowed at curious remark made by the cream-colored Officer though. It was, indeed, hard for the Stryder to understand, for, how could someone love a vile serpent such as he? Veri’s earlier outburst came to mind, however, the Sworn decided to file the statements away for later analysis. The trial was about Raine and his wrongdoings, not Veri’s mysterious personal experience with abuse.

At the end of her speech, the Secanti plead for Brita’s innocence on the grounds that the sister was forced to comply with Raine’s demands. Teagan’s let out a sharp exhale, her heart unable to feel mercy for someone who had allowed her brother and the young Night to be raped, who had allowed for her sister to be maimed, and who thought that it could all be amended if she paid the toll in the monster’s stead.

Teagan’s attention was drawn elsewhere as her father spoke once again, calling for her and her Auntie Grynn’s judgement of what to do with the villain they had captured. Her canary eyes shifted to the bloody heap of a scoundrel that Howland had pinned to the wall. Coldly, she stared him down.

“Death by hanging,” she spoke definitively, her voice loud and clear to be heard over everyone in the courtroom. “He does not deserve a quick and easy way out for the crimes he has committed, and he seems to have valued having control over his victims. Let him have a taste of a fraction of how they must have felt, knowing what is to come but unable to stop it.”

In truth, she wanted him to suffer. She wanted him to pay for having violated her siblings and Night. She wanted him to hurt, but, most of all, she wanted him to feel fear. It was not the Cavalier way though. They were above barbarians, dicing up their victims or killing them in inhumane ways. As much as Teagan wanted the monstrosity before them to feel every bit of pain he had caused Arlen, Myra, and Night, the warrior princess would not let the Cavaliers stoop to his level.

She had stood in silence this whole time. Golden eyes never left that of Raine, he was a monster. They had given him, his sister and his children a home. She listened, she always listened it was what she did best. Nothing made sense to her how could this cougar be hiding in wolfs clothing.

Uryu poked at her as he whispered, “easy love” he knew what she was thinking. The Knight woman was less than kind when she found herself angry. He also found the thoughts that ran through her far below who he thought she was. The dark male pulled their daughter closer wishing she never had to see this.

Grynn clenched her fist as she watched him she could hear Veri in the background and part of her wanted to snap. They she force the woman to tell them everything by force if need be. This wasn’t a time to be gentle this was their own being hurt from within. Veri pleaded for the woman and Grynn felt her lip curl. No was all she could think as Luca spoke. He asked for her and Teagans opinion.

She felt Uryu grab hold of her arm as he whispered “don’t”. She waited only a few moments after Tea spoke. Pulling her arm from her mate. Her lip curled as she stared him down before looking to Luca. All the things that ran through her head. She’d gladly take him to her shop and show him what it feels like to be them. Or maybe they could treat him like prey, release him and hunt him down.

“Kill him.” Her tone so different from her usual carry. “You don’t deserve a life, you wasted yours on horrendous things. You’ll never harm anyone again.” The tension in her body amplified as she tried not to just attack him. This is why she hadn’t spoken the whole time the anger that coursed through her was hard to contain. She glanced at Tea and looked to Luca. “I’ll get the rope” she wanted this nightmare to end. The world around them seemed so quiet and maybe that added to her anger to the thoughts that ran through her head.

OOC Raine's speech is red, Brita's speech is purple.

965

Howland held the monster at bay, pinning his shoulders against the wall and forcing him to be still and listen to the proceedings around him. He was obviously losing his composure as he began to realize that he wasn't smooth talking himself out of this one. He glared straight into Raine's blood red eyes as the man's eyes darted around in a panic. Howland could not help the grin of satisfaction that tugged at the corners of his mouth as he watched the monster realize he was about to get what's coming to him.

The guard's floppy ear flicked to listen to the happenings behind him, while the other remained intent on Raine. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Veri approach and listened while she stood and made her speech. Howland frowned, his carnelian gaze burning into Raine's. The abomination had kept his own sister as a slave! Although he could not fully understand the woman and her mindset as a lifelong slave, he did understand that Raine was a master manipulator and the powers of the mind could be beyond belief, and his hold on Brita was likely stronger than any physical chain he could have put on her body. Although Howland was an obedient follower of his betters, he hoped it would not come down to further torturing of Brita. It seemed Veri had gotten all the information she needed to form an opinion.

As Veri made her announcement, Raine began to thrash against Howland's hold once more, but every jerk, every yank was futile. The bound, weakened man was not going to get out of Howland's grip.

“You see?!” the maniac blurted out as Veri stood and delivered her speech. “Even your own pack mate, one of your own says that Brita loves me. How can somebody love someone who has perpetrated such crimes? No slave loves their master. Evidence from your own medic's mouth, evidence that I am not an abuser!” Howland considered taking a hand off of Raine's shoulders to wrap his fingers around his muzzle and silence him, but even in Raine's injured and bound state he did not want to risk him getting free and hurting anybody as a last ditch effort to escape. They could tolerate the words to keep the monster chained, unless his Lune ordered him otherwise. And while he did repeatedly order Raine to shut his mouth, Luca did not directly tell Howland to shut it for him.

Still, the Lune did order that Raine be kept in line, and Howland had other ways. One could not speak without air, so he shoved his knee into the brute's tender stomach, constricting his diaphragm. The entire court could hear the oomph that came from the monster, and that effectively shut him up as his eyes bulged and he worked to catch his breath. Howland and the Knights did not approve of torture, but this was not torture. If he would obey the Lune's simple command he would not have to silence him by this method.

While he gasped for breath, the Lune called upon the Brotherhood as Raine's jury. Again that hint of a smile came back to the guard dog's face and he saw, even through his panting to regain his breath, Raine's features drop and the fear that flashed in his glassy red eyes. With little hesitation from the Brotherhood, Howland glanced over his shoulder to see the calico Teagan and the dun-colored Grynn step forward. The no-nonsense Teagan spoke first, 'Death by hanging. And then Grynn, Kill him. Howland could not resist the satisfied smile that he turned onto Raine.

Most of the bystanders probably expected the outburst to come from Raine, so when a peal of horror came from the woman next to him it shocked Howland and he jerked his head to see who was screaming. While most were probably still processing the Brotherhood's verdict, Brita let out a scream of anguish. “Noooo! No no no!” she cried, and, shockingly, the tortured woman burst into action. The grief that surged through her was nearly a tangible thing in the room, and all the adept canine noses could sense the fear that oozed off of her. Finding a strength she didn't even know she had, the chocolate woman leaped forward fighting her guards, her arms lashed out without aim as though she was trying to swim through the people to get to her brother. Veri stood between her and her master, and, still wailing, she lashed out to shove the woman aside – she did not even notice when her cream colored hand came back bloody. “Raine! No! Don't kill him!” she repeated, begging over and over as she tried to force herself through the guards to get to Raine, in perverse devotion to the man who had been her lifelong tormenter.

Raine finally caught his breath but never his composure. His jaw hung agape in shock as he stared blankly at Teagan and Guin just before Brita began to break down. Then he heard her scream and turned to see the havoc she was causing, and he in turn took advantage of the moment to thrash against Howland. Raine managed to successfully kick Howland low in the gut, and the guard lost some of his breath, but not all like Raine had earlier. His grip on the monster loosened and Raine began to shove his way forward, but Howland recovered and thrust him back into the wall, hitting Raine's head and ringing his bell against the unforgiving wall. Then in an adept move that had been well practiced, Howland spun his prisoner around and hooked his arm around his neck, catching him in a potentially deadly headlock that Raine, despite all his struggles, could not escape from.

Sorry for the word vomit y'all.
TL;DR: Iorek is crouched down on all fours for most of the trial and growling and snarling since Riley is next to him and holding his scruff. Then Veri gets hit and he rears up to his full height and furious snarls and then Riley holds him back but he's still standing and ruffled and snarling for the rest of the trial.
Let me know if I posted too soon or need to edit!

Iorek had been crouched down on all fours in the aisle close close to the proceedings but far enough away, almost looking like he was going to spring at the wolf bastard. Riley stood next to him, a firm but gentle hand on his neck which kept the male from attacking. The beast looked furious and he was snarling and growling. He was crouched, ready to spring at the man if he moved. The male was huge, even crouched like that brought his head up to the jackal's torso. His teeth were bared, fangs peeking behind his lip. He had shifted back to his Optime form when they were coming back to the Courthouse. The wolfdog looked undoubtedly feral and anger did not look good on him.

The brown behemoth was still wearing his feathered ensemble; the cardinal, magpie, and a couple of blue jay feathers scattered through his mane which was currently bristled in anger. He was wearing his two necklaces: a vintage key necklace and a piece of pink sea glass on a piece of leather cord. There were a couple of necklace chains woven in his mane though they were obscured by the beast's bristled hairs. His claws were unsheathed for once, normally never out because of his preference for Optime and Secui. The large talons scraped against the floor and left a couple of scrapes. The brown jackal wore the same blue and black outfit and his normal goggles, vintage key necklace, and scarves. He was armed with multiple weapons though at this moment, the chocolate-saddled brute looked more angry and dangerous than the guy armed with a bow, scimitar, and multiple knives.

The massive medic wanted to tear Raine from limb to limb. Myra was his friend and the man had ripped her tail from her and kidnapped her. He hadn't been the one to bring him in but he was still wanting to attack him. He didn't take people threatening his friends very well. His guard dog instincts from the dog breeding in his blood, the blood from guardian dogs and mastiffs that were known to be aggressive, especially towards others that threatened them or the people under their protection was roaring at him. He was only held back by the speckled jackal who didn't want the beast to regret anything or cause a disruption in the court. Considering how big the beast was, being more than a foot and a half taller than the man if standing upright and more than double his weight, the jackal fighter was lucky that he could hold the feral nurse back.

The oversized healer saw Arlen come forth after Remus reminded everyone what the monster had done to Myra. The golden Lune had asked everyone to come forward if they were witnesses or victims to the amber-eyed monster. The beast stilled for a second but the archer still kept the hand on the male's neck since the red boy was either a witness or a victim. The Stryder child said that it wasn't the Syndicate loners that had taken him and left him in the river. And then the beast bristled and then the boy said that the Nightshade had forced him to drink and then raped him. The brute snarled and tensed but then the Rockateer grasped his scruff, making sure that the large Luperci didn't try to rip Raine apart.

The brown-hued Goliath knew the nature of his own conception and was fine with anything but non-consensual sex; rape. He had a huge dislike - one may call it hate - for rapists and to hear one of his friends had been the victim of it and the perpetrator was right in front of him almost caused him to spring at the man. But the beast's friend was holding him and he would hurt the smaller male if he tried to attack the man and he didn't want to hurt him. So the hulking hybrid stayed down and didn't move but growls echoed through his chest.

And then Honrin stepped forward, speaking for Night and his testimony made the monstrous hybrid's vision go red but the Cajun male kept a firm grip on his friend's scruff, keeping him from attacking the male. The vile villain had raped Night many times? And he'd attacked her? The young female was also one of the beast's friends and he snarled, poised and ready to attack, crouched and feral. He tugged slightly at the hold as he heard how the male had terrorized her and had threatened her loved ones. His teeth bared but the malachite-eyed Cadet kept hold on the gargantuan Optime.

And then the rapist spoke and the massive wolfdog snarled at the male, his hackles on end and looking like he was going to tear the man apart again. The wolf tried to defend himself, he said that the accusations were all false. The man said that the young prince was lying, but why would the child lie about something so horrible? And then a loud snarl rippled through the male, cutting off his growling as the traitor insinuated that the young girl was lying about it, too and for attention. No, the green-eyed girl wouldn't do such a thing! And then the male's lip curled as he heard the man say how he loved Myra. He was a monster and the age difference between the two made the brown-hued brute's lips curl

The rage-filled male was growling as he wanted the man to be dead, his stench and scum wiped from the earth. He was a horrible person, the most vile. He had forced himself upon the beast's friends, he had taken Myra, and he had cut off her tail. And now he had the audacity to lie, to call the victims liars. The male wanted to attack him but he couldn't with the trader's hand in his scruff, he didn't want to hurt the man and the rational part of his mind knew that he shouldn't attack the scum, especially in the middle of a trial. But the beast continued to growl and snarl and the caphony broke out. But then a yell, a yell that demanded respect and quiet made the beast go silent and sit, sitting like a dog while in Optime form. Jace's yell had shut the not-so-gentle giant up.

The hulking hybrid watched as the night-colored female came up to speak. He was proud of her but he was too filled with his anger and hatred for the man on trial. His teeth bared as he heard the young one share her testimony as a victim of Raine and his growling continued as he heard it. She had been taken advantage of, he had forced himself onto her, he had threatened her, and he had scarred her. She showed the X-shaped scar on her chest and the beast's hackles raised as his lip curled as he looked furious at the man, his ruby-eyed blazing. He nodded as the girl said that he had seen the scars given to her by the loner, the scar on her chest was new and he hadn't seen it. The Hushhowl's proof was enough to condemn the man even further to the blood-eyed male. And then Jace pointed out that the man's accomplice was his sister and raised the point of why she was so scared of him.

And then someone else stepped up, Veri. The cream and coffee healer snarled, if the man had attacked her too, then the beast didn't know if he could hold himself back. The Secanti woman was his mentor, practically his second mother. He quieted down a little as she spoke for someone else. The woman, Brita cowered pathetically on the floor as the Secanti woman came near and that made him stop for a second. Why was she so afraid? The golden medic went onto explain that the woman wasn't afraid of Casa di Cavalieri, she was afraid of the Nightshade male. And then the wolf woman revealed the scars around her wrists and said that one couldn't hide the signs of slavery from one who had seen them - or "worn" them before. And that made the beast go silent.

Part of the bob-tailed boy wondered what that was, "slavery". He stilled as his mind thought of something else. Why hadn't he noticed the signs of the victims? He had been assaulted by another and the male had forced himself onto him as well. He had withdrawn into his shell and had become more jumpy and scared from the attack since he had been raped by the dark male. He stilled as he tried to stop the memories, the deranged smile from the yellow-eyed demon, the pain, the fear. But the jackal took his silence as confusion and bent down to whisper into the bear dog's ear.

Riley didn't know if the wolfdog's sudden silence had been shock or confusion. He failed to realize that there was no charecteristic head tilt from the beast and bent down to whisper into the beast's ear, defining slavery to the beast before tightening his grip on the hybrid's scruff as a snarl rippled through the male. The jackal had been a child of a slave but his mother had been docile but not as broken and afraid as this woman. She had become happier and a bit more outgoing when she and her father ran away together but the Rockateer's other hand clenched into a fist.

Then the golden moon king asked for the Cavaliers to speak. No one needed to ask what the oversized wolfdog thought of the accused, the male's bristled fur and constant snarling was enough as well as the look in his eyes, the look of pure rage and anger. The archer looked calmer but it was the look on his face, the narrowed eyes, the clenched fist. The jackal male stayed quiet, not knowing what would come out if he spoke. But it was clear, they wanted the man dead.

The monster began to speak and the beast bristled. He snarled as the man called the Secanti woman a mean word. He tensed, as if he was going to attack but the archer's grip tightened again. The man was silenced, a blow from the guard had him coughing up blood. Once the Nightshade recovered, he spoke again, roaring the final words which made the hybrid snarl and tug at the hold, baring his teeth as his jaws snapped together. The two traitors were separated which caused another outburst from the man. Even the Rockateer's teeth bared as he considered just letting the seriously pissed off giant have a go at the traitor.

And then the blue-eyed wolf returned from her interogation with the battered woman. The beast calmed down slightly but his carmine eyes narrowed at the male; if looks could kill then the monster would be dead. He only half-heard the medic's response though the fighter paid attention. He could understand slightly where the enslaved woman was coming from even if the others couldn't. The jackal would have voted to spare the woman.

Then the Lune asked for the vote of the two Brotherhood members to decide on the monster's faith. As expected, the two women voted to punish him by a hanging. The beast only heard the part about the man getting killed. He was almost happy that the man was being killed though the beast was too angry to feel any kind of happiness. Riley gave an approving nod as he agreed with the verdict. He wanted to see the fucker burn but seeing him hang was enough.

And then an outburst came from Brita. She screamed and fear oozed off of her. She fought the guards, leaping into action after hearing her that her abuser was going to be killed. She lashed out, trying to get to Raine. And Veri was in the way. The woman didn't seem to notice when her claws hit the Officer's face.

Veri was practically the feral giant's second mother and his mentor. He didn't take anyone harming those close to him well and the woman was practically family. The beast let out a snarl as he rose to his full height. The Rockateer male let go of the beast as the male stood up, standing with all seven feet and five inches. He let out a furious snarl and almost looked like he was going to attack but the jackal fighter was holding his arm, keeping the crimson-eyed Cavalier from trying to rip Brita to shreds. The beast was still but hunched down a little. Veri would be okay, he hoped?

WC:1066

The ride around the territory via horse back had been mostly uneventful for the dark furred male. He'd thought it best to let his mate take charge, and simply be a second pair of eyes for her. He was glad that it was someone else that had found the monster Raine, he wasn't sure what kind of response Veri would have had, or if he would have been able to hold her back if it came to that. As soon as the call went up they changed course back towards the fort, riding much faster than they had on the way out.

Just beyond the fort gate, once Veri had slowed the horse down, Rurik hopped off the back and waved her on. While the entire pack was called, no one would miss him if he were to be the last to arrive. Really, if anyone was paying attention, they probably expected nothing less.

Rather than going straight to the courthouse with the rest of the pack, he made his way to Veri's house. Something was telling him that he would need something to steady him for what was to come once the courthouse doors were closed. Once home, he found what he was looking for tucked inside of a small wooden box that he kept tucked under the couch. Not because he though Veri would mide, but because he didn't want any curious visitors questioning the good medic, as to why she had an herb that did not heal with her stores. He took out the pipe and packed it gently with the green herb he kept with it. He didn't use much since he hadn't been able to get any more in a while. Using a left over coal from that morning's fire in the fireplace, he lit the magic grass and inhaled deeply, savoring the sweet burn that ran across his tongue. He wouldn't smoke much of it, just enough so he wouldn't loss his cool during the trial, and this was a much better alternative to his normal vice of alcohol.

After two or three puffs he tapped what remained back into his box and separated the still smoldering bits from the unburned parts with a claw, closed the box and re-stashed it under the couch. The room only smelt a little like weed.

He made his way quickly to the courthouse, just in time to hear Jace call for the crowd of angered Cavaliers to silence. What ever he had missed, it must have been a big deal. He wandered around the edge of the crowd toward Veri and took up his place against the wall, merely watching the proceedings. She did not need him at the moment, and the pack was more than capable of handling such a thing without his input, so he was more than content to simply observe for now.

He listened to Night's confession as to what Raine had done to her and, even through the light haze of the weed, he felt his hackles rise as memories of his own treatment came back; being taken against one's will, and violently and permanently marked as the property of someone else. The scar running down the center of his chest began to itch. He was glad he'd dulled himself now. Although it did take a moment for all of her words to register with him. Her mention of Arlen and Myra, her using the phrase 'the first time...' which would imply that more times followed. He took it rather personally as well, that a monster like Raine would use the amazing substance of alcohol for something as vile as this. Though, that indignation took a backseat to the cold pit of hate he felt open up in his belly for the beaten and bleeding creature on the other side of the court room from him.

The dark furred male closed his eyes and folded his arms over his chest, listening to the rest of the proceedings. His ears perked up a bit when he heard his mates voice explaining Brita's position. He knew that Veri was speaking from experience, as he had shared in some of those experiences with her, and she was right that most of the rest of the pack likely wouldn't understand the concept of loving your tormentor. They wouldn't understand how warped one's mind could become under severe stress and abuse. Though he was curious as to just how deeply Raine claws were dug into the poor girl.

Rurik wasn't surprised in the slightest when Luca called upon the Brotherhood to render a verdict, and when that verdict was death. Though, Rurik would prefer a death by something called 'drawing and quartering', which was something he'd only seen once but would remember until he died, he supposed hanging was good as well. However, he was surprised when he heard the shrill cry come from Veri's direction. His eyes snapped open just in time to see Brita's claw come swiping down toward his mate, catching her across the face and spreading a splash of crimson across the courthouse floor. Rurik was moving before he knew where he was going.

In the blink of an eye he had weaved through the edge of the crowd toward Veri. As soon as he was by her side he was tearing apart his shirt into strips and wrapping them around her injury. "Veri, are you alright?" He asked, his voice low and disproportionately calm to how he would usually be if he saw her injured. He was glad for the weed now.

He snapped his head up toward the hysteric Brita who was fighting to get to Raine, then over to Luca, and spoke without really thinking first. "My Lune! I call for the death of Brita Nightshade! Not as revenge or punishment, but as a mercy. She is too far gone, Raine has his claws in her too deeply. She may pose a danger to the pack once he is put out of our misery. It would be better for everyone, including her, if Morty or Veri were to give her something to put her to sleep. Permanently. Then, she may be with Raine in the afterlife, as well." He'd only added the last part on the off chance that Brita would hear him and be calmed by the idea of spending eternity with her loving brother.

Veri Secanti
Oh mercy me. All I see is a monster

The Lune listened respectfully to the assessment she had to give on Brita. Whilst her rank in the pack may not have been exceptionally high, Luca had known her or many years, and thus he seemed to have garnered a respect toward her to allow such a privilege. Once her words were given, he turned the fate of Raine onto their two Brotherhood members, Teagan and Grynn.

Before their decision could be made, Raine spoke out once more, commenting on the assessment she'd done and declaring it evidence to the opposite point in which she'd made. Veri fixated a cold gaze on the male, a curl to her lip. I loved mine, in a fashion. If the conditioning is done in a certain way, anything is plausible. she countered, crossing her arms across her chest.

Seeing as two of the victims had been Teagan's siblings, she highly doubted a light sentence would be forthcoming from the tri-colored Stryder. The recently inducted Sworn didn't fail in this assumption, her decree falling like ice from her lips.

Grynn's came just as coldly, condemning the monster to death with just the word of two canines. Raine's sentence didn't bother her; he deserved what he'd reaped for himself. What concerned her is how Brita would fare in her own part of this trial.

From behind her there was a cry of denial from a feminine voice. Veri wasn't surprised to recognize Brita's tone. The Medic turned, her foremost intention to try and soothe the distraught woman. She had an inkling of what this might feel like to the abused female, knew it might be like her whole world crumbling around the younger canine.

This is what prompted the panic ridden woman to make an attempt to reach her brother's side. But during this, one of Brita's hands lashed out in Veri's direction, her claws carving three trails of bloody furrows across her right eye and over the bridge of her muzzle. Veri's yelp of pain was swiftly followed by a clamor of sound all around the courtroom, voices raised in discord.

The cream medic had fallen to the floor cradling the wounded side of her face, grimacing. But all the while, she still understood Brita's panic.

Like a phantom, abruptly her mate was right there beside her, as if he'd been there all along. She heard the sounds of a shirt being ripped before his hands deftly began to wrap the torn strips of cloth around her injury. Rurik's query fell on ears that still rang with the cries from Brita. Yeah, I'm fine. I need- before she could finish, her mate began to speak once more, but this time towards the Lune.

Her head snapped up toward Rurik, sending droplets of blood that'd already soaked the bandage or her fur flying to the tile floor. Her remaining eye filled with utter disbelief at the words he'd just uttered. How could he stomach to say such a thing, when he knew what this felt like to her. Looking at Brita was like being shown a mirror of what Veri could have been if she'd never met her mate, never been saved. Brita deserved to be saved, just as much as she had.

No! the cream Medic growled hoarsely. Veri stood, brushing Rurik's hands dispassionately from her body as she carefully straightened to her full height. Her single orb wavered for a moment before it could focus on her Lune and put all the intensity of the fire in her gaze on him.

Brita is a victim. Raine used her, manipulated her, in the same way he did Arlen, Night, and Myra, but for a stretch of time that we don't even know. He convinced her to love him, despite all he's done to her and to others. Putting her to...to sleep, that's like declaring she's not worth the trouble to help. What good are we as Knights, as protectors, if we give up on her.

Veri had never been so angry, or passionate, in her life. Normally there might be some form of subservience to her posture, some deference to her superior, but there were none to be found. She stood tall and straight, her tail flagged against her back and muzzle wrinkled enough to show the tips of her fangs with her ears pricked sharply forward.

It was clear her intent wasn't to challenge the authority of her Lune with dominance, but rather to make certain her disapproval was unmistakable.

I forgive her. Her act of violence was the result of panic from her master being sentenced, a man whom has obviously conditioned her for many, many moons to love, protect, and aide him whenever asked. That's not like a habit you can just break with ease. It's akin to asking one of us to not defend ourselves from a threat, when we've trained for nearly all our lives to do just that. All but impossible.

Veri took a second to collect herself, having realized her breaths came in irregularly shallow pulls. Her fists clenched at her sides as she forced her tail and hackles to lower, but they remained at a half risen and bristled state. This could have easily been my own fate. I refuse to deny Brita the same chance that I had.

Aniki's brows shot up at Rurik's declaration and she got up quickly to see how everyone reacted to this. Already, she was putting together an argument. Her stomach burned in indignation, her mouth suddenly dry. She watched as Veri snapped up and glared at her mate in shock. Aniki settled back and let her talk, nodding in agreement and waiting until she had obviously finished before speaking up. She walked forwards, pushing herself to the front so that their Lune could see her. She raised her hand and stood up tall, but her tail was low and her ears were down. Luca was especially angry tonight, as anyone would be after hearing everything that Raine had done, and she didn't want to anger him. Despite this, her eyes were hard.

"I just want to say something really quickly. I know that I have not been here long, nor am I ranked particularly high, being only an Officer. But this is not a matter that I can keep quiet about simply because of rank. I disagree with Rurik. We are not savages who would murder— and let's call it that instead of saying 'putting to sleep' because that is what it is, murder— a victim of a monster. I would like to say that it was obvious to everyone that Myra loved Raine, but I see nobody suggesting that we kill her. I understand that she was not under Raine's spell, of sorts, as long as Brita. She is not protecting Raine, but if she was trying to protect him, can you tell me now that you would suggest we put her out of her misery without even trying to help her?" Aniki asked the room, pausing for a breath but not letting anyone interrupt her.

"Brita has committed no crime other than not speaking up. And this is something we have already established was not her fault. She was conditioned to do. She had no way of knowing that Raine wouldn't come back and kill her, or worse, if she did tell anyone. To her, Raine had already defeated many canines, who was to say that he wouldn't fight his way back? And so, we need to accept that she should not be blamed for this. I would not be able to fight back against an entire life of trauma to protect somebody I didn't know. I can assume that nobody in this room would be able to either, at least not without outside help. And I didn't see or hear of anyone reaching out to her." Aniki said, looking around the room. Nobody spoke up, so she continued.

"We are not barbarians. We do not slaughter those who have committed no crime. This entire way of thinking goes against our pack's way. That is not the pack that I joined. I joined this pack partially because I liked the fairness of it. Can anybody tell me that murdering Brita is fair? I suggest that we at least attempt to help her! Because if we do not do that, then who are we? Nothing more than criminals ourselves, settling a grudge with brutal force. We execute Raine because of his crimes against both members of our pack and those outside of it. And this time I say execute because we are not making a decision based on emotion, but instead based off of cold, hard facts. And that is fair! Murdering a pack member who is, and I do not know how to say this any other way, sick! That is not the pack that I joined. That is not fair and is, honestly, simply cruel!"

Aniki took a deep breath once more, shaking herself. She forced herself to remain calm, having to take a small break because of the ice spreading through her body would not be good. She looked around at everyone before turning her bright blue eyes back to her Lune. "And so! I say that we execute Raine for his crimes. That is easy. But I would also like to help rehabilitate Brita into a wolf who can think for herself and choose her own actions! Veri has said she has experience in this, so she should be in charge of the operation. I also volunteer myself to help her. I believe that anybody who is clear-headed and empathetic who wants to help should be able to help. This is the fair option. We are not a pack who murders. We are fair and just, not hot-headed and apathetic."

Aniki closed her mouth and stepped back, forcing herself to stop talking before she said something that angered everybody. She let out a deep breath that she didn't realize she was holding in, and settled herself in before turning her attention back to her Lune and his Brotherhood.

His golden eyes moved from daughter to sister as he waited. Today they were not just family to him, they were his council. It was not often that the leadership called specifically on the Brotherhood, but this was such an occasion that it was customary. In this case Luca dared not puff out his chest and call himself the all knowing alpha. He had seen it done before and knew it was better to guide and ask. Not just one canine would decide the fate of the other. It was of course more clear in Raine’s situation than in Brita’s, which was made even more obvious when his daughter spoke, calling for his hanging. Turning his gaze to Grynn he waited to see if she would agree, and she did so swiftly.

The Lune did not have a moment to react to his family’s sentence, as a shriek from near by drew the attention of all near by. His head jolted sideways as he found the source, Brita. In the sudden chaos Luca was unsure what to do, he saw Brita’s frantic claws come down across Veri’s face, causing the healer to yelp in pain and fall to the ground. Quick to react Luca called out, “Jace, get her under control!” Before he could move forward himself he saw Rurik charge to his mate’s side.

Much to Luca’s surprise the elder Cavalier spoke up. Rurik had been a member of Casa since Luca had been a pup, and this instantly earned the man respect from the leader. Despite the fact that the Cadet was a usually soaked in alcohol by noon he was a loyal man and knew how to defend the pack when called upon. It was for these reasons that Luca listened to his words, allowing them to hold weight in his mind. In another turn of events Veri quickly came to the defense of her attacker, causing Luca to squint his eyes, concerned if the healer was putting too much trust in the girl who refused to call her keeper a monster.

When a new voice joined, Luca knew it was time to step in and find a solution. Silently he watched Aniki, waiting for her words to fade before he nodded in acknowledgement. Raising a hand the Lune called for order, waiting for quiet to fall upon the court. “I will say based on the evidence I forgo the motion to put Brita to death, as I don’t believe she personally was involved in any of Raine’s actions. That being said, I will leave it up to you, my Cavaliers, to decide is she will stay here of if she should go on her way. Although she did not directly commit Raines crimes she has shown him nothing but loyalty and has shown no restraint here today. How do the Cavaliers vote?”

OOC: All Casa members are welcome to vote if Brita will stay in the pack or be sent away. Only one post per character please in this round.

His mate's declaration didn't exactly surprise the dark furred male. He knew when he had spoken that she would very likely be upset and possibly fight against him, but his reason was sound. She tended to make decisions with her heart, as most females do, whereas he made decisions with his head. As if to prove an even better example, Aniki spoke up next in opposition to putting Brita to rest, and even claimed to be using facts as to why she should be kept! Maybe real facts were too difficult for some to grasp, but it was clear to Rurik that the two females were thinking with their hearts. It would be safer for the pack and better for Brita for her to join her brother in the cold beyond. Why couldn't they see that? Did she deserve to be rehabilitated? Yes, that's not what he was disputing. He would challenge that she would not WANT to be helped without he brother, much less helped by the very people who took her brother and master's life. Was that such a difficult thing to conceive?

The thoughts of the mind and of the heart had been put before Luca for his judgment, and such was one of the key challenges of being in a position of leadership. Without the ability to take both the heart and the mind into equal account, one could easily through a pack into disarray.

Which is something Rurik was rather proud to see that Luca was more than capable of doing when he called for a vote: to keep her or to send her away to the wilds. Heart and mind combined in equal amounts in an almost reflexive amount of time. Rurik wanted to be the first to voice his thought. He stood and took a small step away from Veri, mostly to be out of smacking range, but also to show that her feelings would not influence what he thought would be best for the pack, and for her.

"My Lune, I vote that if she is not to join her brother, then she be sent as far from us as possible and forbade from returning. I would rather not test who she is more loyal to, the pack or her brother-master. I still think she should join her brother, as a mercy rather than a punishment, but that was not a given option. So, I say send her away."

TL;DR: Teagan votes to send Brita away

Things escalated rather quickly after the Brotherhood’s sentence. The courtroom had come alive with noise once more, an ear-splitting screech erupting from the Nightshade’s sister, loyal to the end to her wretched beast of a brother. Had the man not been a snake, the woman’s loyalty might have been commendable, however, judging from Veri’s verdict of her, it was unfortunate, and sad.

Brita flailed and thrashed, catching the cream-colored healer across the face with one of her wild movements. Teagan felt a snarl of her own jump in her throat at the action, however, there had been others that had been quicker to come to the Officer’s aide.

More screaming, more yelling, more chaos from the Cavaliers. Raine even tried to take advantage of it, only to—thankfully—be quickly thwarted by Howland. The Sworn’s gaze flicked to the mountain-blood wolfdog as he quickly wrestled the monster into a headlock. Despite the cheap shot, it appeared that Howland had things under control, and Teagan let her eyes shift to a new speaker. Her father had been right to keep the guardsman around after the diplomacy summit.

It was Rurik, and he spoke a plea to call for Brita’s death as well. However, he received a quick rebuttal from his own mate. Veri wanted to let Brita live, and her argument was supported by a long-winded speech of agreement from another Officer, Aniki. Voices grew within the courtroom of Cavaliers saying their opinions before the Lune raised his hand for them to quiet down and bring order back to the tension-filled room.

Her father was the one to deny Brita receiving a similar end as her brother, however, he left it to the Cavaliers to decide the woman’s fate. Once more, Rurik came forth, voting that they send Brita away in the absence of death being an option.

It was true, what Veri said about it being hard for her packmates to understand, however, the Stryder could not overlook the fact that the woman had let such transgressions happen. For all they knew, the Nightshade sister had watched as Raine had raped Arlen and Night, had known of Raine’s plans for Myra. As someone whose sense of justice resonated strongly within her, Teagan could not forgive someone who chose so selfishly, who chose to keep quiet in order to protect themselves than to speak up—or, hell, even warn the Cavalier youths. They were children, and the wretch had turned a blind eye.

No. Brita had stayed silent for her own self-preservation, and that had damned her in Teagan’s book. With the choice of death off of the table, sending the woman away was the next best option in her opinion.

“In the absence of death as an option, I agree with Rurik,” she agreed, her voice as cold as before. “It’s obvious that the woman is unwilling to cooperate, even with someone like Veri here who has said to have come from a similar past. It is clear what she wants; her brother, and for her brother to remain alive. Forcing her to stay in a place where its people killed the only thing that her warped mind cared for can only fester one thing; resentment.”

Her canary eyes shifted over the group, only briefly pausing at Veri and Aniki before moving on. While she was respectful of the two Officers’ opinions, she did not agree with them. “Do any of you honestly think that she would ever look upon us and see anything other than the Luperci that killed her beloved monster of a brother? Send her away from here, where she will be free of anyone’s influence or those that think they can make decisions of what’s best for her.”

Mako nodded before voicing his vote as well, “I vote to send her away as well, and, far away at that.”

Jace Wolfe
Word Count ♞ 267 :: TL;DR Jace and Honrin vote to send away Brita

Too many words, way too many words. In the arctic warrior's mind it was already decided, there could be only one outcome; And through it all the aging woman continued to stare down the man that refused to look her in the face. Death, he was sentenced to death at the behest of the Brotherhood. Her lips twitched but otherwise her stare remained stony and expressionless.

Chaos erupted, as it always would do and the woman Brita was stopped from causing more damage by Jace manhandling her, dragging the younger woman away from where she could hurt anyone and forcing her to her knees. Even hearing the testimony that she was witness too, Jace knew the only decision to be made was the one that kept Casa safe. Nothing else would come before that prime directive. It was a terrible tragedy and such was the way of this world, full of terrible things and massacred innocents.

Her fingers dug into Brita's fur as she kept her hold and her own voice added to the vote, ringing with finality, The welfare of this pack should always come first. Teagan is right, this woman will never offer us the loyalty to be trusted. I vote she be sent away.

Across the hall Honrin was stepping forwards and also adding his vote, to send the woman away too, where she might create new memories not tainted with evil and suffering. The white male's eyes were sad as he looked upon the pitiful creature, but there was a hardness there. Children had been hurt and Brita had done nothing to stop any of it.
