While his visits to Halifax never left the merle in any particularly positive mood, his mixed emotions tonight were hard to decipher, and that in itself only agitated him more. It had been a pleasure before to return home... He'd be reunited with his caring mate and respectful children (save for the rambunctious Vivienne, but she had her moments when even she was considerate to his stress level), and he wouldn't have to worry about dealing with his wayward son until next time. Now though, after hearing of Basil's epilepsy and the tension it caused him and his previous partner, the Butler sire couldn't help but feel responsible, like he needed to help. The brat was his son, after all. But he knew there was nothing he could do to make the youth happy. Basil despised assistance, especially from his father. Harvey sticking his nose in would only result in more trouble. So while he felt driven to care for his spawn, there was far better reasoning behind simply staying free from the mess and making his way back home. At least he'd be welcomed there. That thought cheered him up as the house came into sight. He didn't know who all would still be in the abode (as he was gone for a few hours and knew the children enjoyed wandering about), but seeing a more friendly face than that of his merle son would be an appreciated scene. Even Vivienne could hold conversation without insulting him. Making his way to the door, the Squire opened it carefully, and slowly shut it behind him when he'd entered the home. With a smile, fueled by the possibility of being greeted by one of his more thoughtful offspring, Harvey called out, "Oi, I'm back! 'Ope ya didn't miss me too much now..." He laughed softly, taking off his coat and setting it on the back of the couch nearby.

Sorry about the delay!

Samuel watched the sun set from his home, waiting for his father to return. The boy knew where Harvey had got to. It wasn't hard to figure. His father had gone to see Basil. Sam growled inwardly at the though of that male. In blood, Basil was his brother. But in the mahogany male's mind, he was nothing more than another canine. Sammy couldn't wrap his mind around why his father wanted to go see him. Basil, being anything but good, and Harvey, being everything good. It just didn't make sense to the boy. Nothing could convince him to even contemplate the idea of paying a visit to the evil spawn which is, unfortunately, his family.

When Harvey returned home, Sammy couldn't help but smile. The presence of his father always made him giddy and forget about his worries. "Father! Glad yer home. I misse' you some'ing fierce. But yer here now,"the boy said, extending his arms for an embrace. Samuel missed his dad more than he let on. His idol had finally returned from what was probably a hellhole.

"How was yer trip?" he asked, motioning his father to follow him. The boy had a surprise for his dad planned. Sam had some berries picked and some smoked meat waiting on the table for dinner. It was his favorite combination and he hoped his father enjoyed it as well.

It wasn't just responsibility, his job as a father figure and loving mate, but it was something the merle actually enjoyed. Being involved meant a lot to him, and it was always a wonderful feeling when that enjoyment was returned. "Well, 'ey Sammy!" The male smiled back. The Butlers' proclaimed Golden Boy was always so ecstatic about spending time with his family, excluding his troublesome brother. But Harvey could hardly blame him; he always had to talk himself into finally visiting the brat, even at the request of his mate. The Briton more than willingly accepted the embrace, something he could never get from his wayward son. He wondered if there would ever be a time that Samuel found himself too old for hugging his father, or didn't care any longer for that affection, but until that challenge needed to be faced, the shepherd would appreciated the comfort for now. He patted Samuel's back in a friendly manner. "Tha' I am. Didn't mean to keep ya wai'in' too long, I got a li'l caught up wif yer broveh." Harvey shrugged, sighing heavily afterward. Glancing up in time to see the boy's motion, the Englishdog followed his son along while satisfying his curiosity. "Same ol', y'know? Trip itself ain't nofink, it's Basil tha' leaves ya feelin' worn out." However, this visit wasn't like usual. It was just as tiring, but not what he'd expected. "An'... An' 'e invi'ed us to come pray wif 'im an' tha' chum of 'is wheneveh. Not quite me cup of tea, but felt I'd share. Can't say it ain't some sort of nasty plot, but 'e seems sincere enough." It was nothing to worry too much over, at least. Harvey raised a brow as they stepped to the table, surprised at the arrangement before him. With another grin, he looked to his boy. "Well, what's all this, Sammy?" The Golden Boy never failed to impress.
