[P] The Mark of a Sage
Devil's Shore, Vuk
#1
The land was that of pure hell and it appeared as though all of his nightmares for what his new home could be were before him in a heartless desert. It made Fen nearly want to vomit with disgust for what tragedy caused this land to be forsaken. It made him sad to imagine the lives lost. How could the divine allow such a thing. But of course Fen knew for a long time this sort of thing happened. But to see it face to face is horrid. It would bring a grown man to his knees and to imagine what it used to look like would cause even the bravest to vomit with disgust.

Anyone who felt nothing was ignorant, arrogant, or cruel. possibly all three but he only knew of one creature in this land that was that wretched. He was a man that all feared by name and one Fen had been confused for. A demon and an angel as one had said. Fen was the angel as this "twin" was the damn devil. Fen growled at the though but soon the disgust took over and soon the man got on his knees clapping his hands together. It was a prayer. Fen truly wished to bring some meaning to this place outside of pain.

Alicanto was disgusted as well since he was trained as an alarm and weapon it made him uneasy to see the dead. It was as if to say this is what will happen to you. It was vulgar but yet beautiful. So beautiful it could also make one weep.

Whichever new place he settled in he always traveled around the areas searching out what he could, looking into wherever he could. Reisha he had left behind this time, after so long together sister and brother needed time apart and Vuk had always been one to wander if he had no one to protect. And so he had found this dead, ashy land and was intrigued by how it came to be so. But through the death he could see life, life always found a way to survive despite the apparent utter devastation. He could see the slivers of regrowth amongst the dead trunks of trees and the scorches remains of grass. He was neither an optimist nor a pessimist so he could see both sides of the situation.

His paws drew puffs of fine ash with every step forwards and soon his paws and lower legs were covered in the clinging dust. It didn't bother him overly much though he had walked through worse, this ash was better than elbow deep mud or thick snow. These lands to the south were much more plentiful than the north and for that he was grateful. It had made the life of his pack a lot easier, prey was easier to find and catch, they never expected the endurance of an arctic wolf. The lupus continued on leaving a trail of footsteps behind him. The wind ruffled his thick fur briefly and he looked upwards, observing the weather.

Off in the distance he spied another wolf, this one in its bipedal form. Vuk avoided using his as much as possible unless he absolutely needed to. He was still bitter about his Changing and would change himself back to normal in a heartbeat if he could do so. A snort of breath led to a sneeze as she ash bothered his nose. He shook his head and a cloud of it rose form his fur, a small storm that was swiftly blown away on the slight breeze. His general direction took him towards the darker wolf but by no means did he make straight towards the male. If the other didn't interact then he would likely walk on by. Vuk was not too inclined to be sociable.

Finding life in death was the sage way. But what sect thought that up? Obviously the religious and what sect did Fen follow. Both, plain and simple. It was odd but Fen felt less disgusted as a small little green blade caught his eye. And Fen began bursting out in laughter rubbing the bird's head. It was beautiful and it withstood all that was thrown at it. It stood along and strong. It would be the first in a long line of its kind. Just like Fen's pups were the first in a long line. Alicanto even walked over to preen the young plant.

Fen soon took a mental note to return to this young one to later assist it in its life. But how could one do that when they traveled so much? Simple fatherhood would force Fen to stay where he was safe and close to home. This was an agreed upon area as not many traveled here. But as his raptor screeched apparently he wasn't the only one looking for life in the dust bowl. Fen turned and smiled to see a lupus boy. Perhaps he was lost or adventuring either way Fen waved him over hoping to be friendly.

It felt nice to meet a new face after staying hidden for so long. " Nice to see another face here the name is Fenrir and the bird is Alicanto."

As he got closer to the other male he did indeed talk to him, raising an arm and waving it at the Amarok male. Vuk had never understood the gesture of waving an arm as a greeting, a good solid bark or a tail wave would do so much better. That was all he offered as far as greetings went, a wave of his tail to show he was not hostile. Vuk had delt with hostile wolves in his lifetime and had almost lost his life in the ambush. The scars were there but buried beneath a thick pelt and thus were impossible to see unless he was in his optime form and his fur was thinner. Forest green eyes scoured this unknown taking in the scars and the blind eye, an obvious handicap should it come down to a fight. But that was him, Vuk, Mr. Plan for everything. Not that he really wanted to fight with this wolf, he had never wanted to fight with anyone but it was his job. He wouldn't skirt his responsibilities,

"Name's Vuk. Amarok. He didn't really know what to make of the bird on Fenrir's shoulder. For Vuk birds were food and nothing more. He sat his rear down on the ground and looked about the pair of them at the dead land.

"You live here? Pretty dead looking place. What's the hunting like?" As usual Vuk's voice was rough and gravelly from disuse. He was not one to speak with his mouth when he could do so more effectively with his body. But wolves these days never seemed to know how to talk body language. It was a shame.

Analytically inclined people commonly over looked others but Fen knew that a handicap was useless to use against another when they could greatly compensate for it. Alicanto was key as he could attack all who came after the blind side. Birds were food but this raptor was Fen's greatest friend. Ever since losing a brother Fen relied entirely on his pack and companion. His mate could assist and Fen was always thankful she made life worth the trouble. He chuckled lightly at the thought but as the other introduced himself Fen felt fond of the name already considering all of its qualities and instantly Fen could click that name with the canine that sat beside him.

His voice on the other hand sounded like a frog gargling gravel. The sort of thing people get after being mute for a few years. Although he could not judge the other. It was his choice to silence his voice. If Fen could live life in a simpler manner he would but yet he needed to speak. The old blood ways were not his. And he respected both ways but preferred to have hands in which to craft and control with. It was the last gift from the old rulers of this planet and Fen hadn't wished to waste it.

But again the boy's observations was humorous. How could anyone live here? It would require and head to toe scraping and seeding. " Uh no I live in AniWaya, I am one of the warriors highest ranked in the pack too as far as war is concerned but enough about me what about you Vuk." He smiled warmly at the man hoping to keep the trust.
