A loner and a pack member mate. Puppies become pack members?
Can the loner be assimilated too?

I'm having this confusion with what I want my character's parents to have done. If it's specific to packs, I'm thinking New Dawn. Assuming they did assimilate the loner because he/she impregnated/was impregnated by a pack member, would it be easier for the outsider to become a pariah? And the puppies?

I'm a little confused by your question. Are you implying that your character's parents will have been members of New Dawn? Or was one parent was from New Dawn and one was not?

Edit: Reading your question again, I kind of get it. Puppies born to either parent can go to either parent. HOWEVER, puppies born to current on board characters must follow puppy procedures. Based on what I understand from your question, you're trying to have a character have puppies with a character in new dawn and are wondering if they would become puppies of the pack?

One parent would be a loner and the other would be part of New Dawn.

Okay, is this for your character's background? Is the parent from New Dawn a current character or a character that was once in New Dawn?

Yes, this is for background. I'm not sure I know what you mean by current character. I intend for the new dawn parent to be an NPC, maybe a pariah. I guess the real question is this: could mating with a loner get a wolf to pariah status in new dawn?
Maybe I should ask someone in new dawn or no?

Well the issue is that npc's cannot have litters in on board areas as per the puppy procedures. You can't really create an NPC for a pack without the pack leaders' permission nor can you imply the parents of your character were part of a pack currently existing since everything is current, while fluid, time.

Right, then I'm missing some crucial part of character creation. When you make a character, they can be part of a pack, correct? They don't have to join later? But they can't have been born into a pack?

Ahh I see where you might be confused.

A character can be part of a pack, if they are already currently in a pack. The characters you would typically be able to pick up that are already in a pack would be pNPC's or adoptable NPC's that belong to their creators. Some packs will adopt out their pNPC's to people but it will depend on the pack and its leadership.

You can create a character and have them automatically join a pack ( if that pack allows it ), but you cannot say that the character was born there or had been living there since that would be retconning established history and is not allowed. If you want your character to be yours and completely original - name and all - you would have to bring in a character that was born out of Nova Scotia to join a pack as a loner. Does this make sense?

If you would like be part of an established family or be an 'oopsie off board baby' of a character, you can always pm that player to inquire, though I couldn't guarantee anything.

Okay, that was super helpful. There was the information I didn't know how to ask for -- thank you. So... Would the rules allow my character's parents to be mNPCs in new dawn as long as I get permission from new dawn?

Yes and no. You can only have a single cNPC (companion NPC) that is a canine per active character. New Dawn may allow one to be a pNPC but the downside is that they would be property of that pack, hence pack NPC. Of course, you would still need to talk to New Dawn leaders about getting the parent NPC into the pack.

Also, please remember that the minimum age your character can be is 2 months for on board born characters. Your character would need to be 7 months or older as noted here c:

Understood, but what about minor NPCs? The parents will only show up in backstory, as my character will be around 2 years old and the parents won't be involved. What is that type of NPC?

You don't even need to include those as they don't have to be with you. NPC's onboard are only counted if they are currently present in some shape. Minor NPC's are just around for a thread or two and then don't really reappear as a regular companion NPC would appear. If your character is 2 years old, the parents don't have to have ever even been in NS and you will not need to list them as NPC's at all.

So does that mean I can make one of them a member of new dawn, but dead now?
  Reply

You cannot as that character has not existed. You cannot retcon (or change the events after it has happened) a character to fit that did not already exist as a member of New Dawn as that would affect current and past members.

I would suggest either looking at adoptables if you want a character with ready-to-go connections in New Dawn or developing a similar history for your character but offboard.

Off board? Sorry, I've been all over this site for the past few hours acquainting myself with the world, but I still don't know some terminology.
And I thought new dawn disliked outsiders so most would be born in. In the game, is it normal for characters to be born into packs?

No worries! Off board refers to the area outside of the the Souls playable territory (for instance, Alaska. These are places that exist and can be referred to in a character's history, but they aren't areas you can roleplay in on the main board). It's not referring to another board/off the website. x)

New Dawn functions like a traditional wolf pack, so in that sense they would be very family-oriented and wary of outsiders. Despite this, and maybe for the sake of gameplay, the pack does frequently accept outsiders into its ranks. It is very normal for characters to be born into packs. But these tend to become adoptable characters, which you would have to contact the creator/player and they would likely have set appearances and histories. It would not be unusual if your outsider character joined New Dawn, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Thank you for clearing that up. I'll be on my way now, having thoroughly exhausted my inquisitiveness.
The gif in your signature is kind of extremely awesome xD
