So I been wanting to bring axelles brother into the picture now thst her whole daddy plot is going down... but no adoptor :(

Anywho, the real question is:

Would you rather pick up a character th has been an NPC?
or
Would you rather adopt a character fresh and have them return/arrive with their own story and all that? like not an NPC, just a family member thst had been absent for a while...

opinions! opinions! :)

I don't really adopt a lot, but generally when I think about characters being adopted, having them freshly returning or arriving into 'Souls is easier, I believe - when they're a NPC, you kinda assume they've been around for a while and have made friends or enemies and have relations with other characters, and you have to keep up with that and always make sure you're playing them interacting correctly. If you make the relationships yourself, however, it's a bit easier to remember I think :O And it's less asking how so-and-so's relation with so-and-so is, and more just roleplaying it out :)

I, personally, like fresh characters -- and that also comes up as a reluctance to adopt characters who previously had players. But that's because I personally have anxiety over whether I'm getting the character "right."

For example, I was constantly worried when I first started playing Shiloh that I'd be playing her wrongly, but it turned out to be a moot point anyway because I'd matured her since her last time being played here. I also had a lot of problems with Wayne McCoy, because he was just that -- a companion NPC character who was adopted. He already had some threads and history and it took me a lot of reading to feel comfortable asking for him.

With that in mind -- if you do want to have them start out as an NPC, one huge and awesome thing you can do for potential players is make a list of their threads on the 'Souls Wiki. Because I didn't have thread logs for either Shiloh or Wayne from before they were roleplayed (or at least not complete ones), I had to go through and manually look through the posts and threads they were in. If you make a list, though, it becomes a lot less intimidating for potential players. Some might even like having a slightly established character to play, and then won't have to go through the hassle of digging for the threads they were involved in as an NPC. :) They have a quick reference of what the character did and who they met. If you wanted to put a more in-depth and updated history/relationship log, too, that'd be a bonus -- but threads at the minimum would be very helpful. ^^

This, hardcore. Every time someone returns a character, one of the first things I do is sort through their threads and history and make a log of it. It'd be insane trying to pick up an NPC character without it. x_x I slack sometimes with active NPCs and adding their threads to these logs, and perhaps that has something to do with their longevity on the list, ha.

For me -- the only character I've adopted is Myrika... she wasn't even on the Open Characters list. I had just remembered she was posted back in the day and I pestered Kiri about her and yesss, yesss, yesss. >>;; I guess if I was going to adopt -- I would want either someone who has that hardcore log of stuff the character has done previous, if they were on board. Otherwise -- fresh character all the way. x:

I had some issues right at the start with figuring out who Cody knew and who he didn't, but Sky was pretty great at clearing up those members who were really close to him. And Lena and Cody were pretty easy to figure out. He still has a major twin crush on his sister but I've pretty much figured out how to play him to the standards he was created with. I think that when I look for adoptable characters who were once NPC's, I often look for their past post record. If someone used them, or they had a particular thread that they were actually played in, I take the time to go back through them all and read. Because of that, I have often run into problems where I want too many characters at one time. Right now, well, I'm hung up on Basilio Lykoi. ._. I wannem soooo badly. And I think I'm gonna message soon to see if I can get him. I'm not sure where I'm at with my post count, though, so it could be an issue. But I have no issues with taking up characters who were once NPC's. Also, I think that often, if they have a history that I like, or a personality trait that I think I can mold into something that's like mine, they're easier to play. But I always do changes through time so that it's grown and developed rather then not. :P

Hmm :D Yesss, I agree with that actually. I've adopted Rio because I saw where I could go with her personality ... so I guess making Nero an NPC does have its pros and cons :D

Thanks for your input, guys <3
