[/html]All of his things now had their own place, in his own room; even back in Midnight Shores, he'd never bothered to set down roots enough to claim a space as his. Whenever he was back on the island, his mothers house was good enough as a place to stay on the in-between. Standing there, surrounded by everything in it's correct place, he'd never felt more out of place. Oh, the doubts had settled in even before he'd gone through with the joining, but much as had been the case then, he still didn't know what else he could really do.

At least here his skills were of use, the faces somewhat familiar. It was just his state of mind, considering himself as separate until her began to make his thoughts become a reality. Withdrawing in his grief hadn't done much to aid him on the getting to know his pack front either – not that he was exactly grieving. No, he was falling deep into a state of denial until he was in some sort of disjointed reality where the loss of his family and pack had never happened.

Groaning, he rolled his eyes at his own melodramatic thoughts, pinning them for what they were. Slipping his waist coat on over his pale shirt, he took a few minutes to tie his hair back, before forcing himself to leave his little bubble and head out into the more social sectors of the estate. Namely, the bar.[html]

Of the truly insurmountable things that stirred covetous feelings within the darkest, shadiest hollows of Lucian's young heart, it was perhaps that Dareios — his nearest and dearest friend — had his own horse (a stallion, no less!) and that he, Lucian Amaranthe, son of the fallen Adcredo, did not.

But then, perhaps the reason for such a travesty was held therein. Were she still within such noble ranking as she'd been at their birth, Lucian had no doubt that Akantha would have bestowed upon him such a treasure if he'd asked. But, if what he'd seen of late was any indication, she was in little position to do anything more than charm strange men and carry on ignoring him. Him! Her own darling Luciano.

A hated and unwelcome stinging pinched his eyes. He growled and, with a swift jab of his dominant hand, Lucian punched the wooden post of the nearest stall and grunted at the impact. Several of the horses stirred, alarmed, and Emmet — upon whose stall Lucian had laid such abuse — kicked out irritably with a cry of equine disdain. Startled by the sudden movement, the Amaranthe scrambled backwards faster than his feet could keep up with. The next thing Lucian knew, he was recumbent on the dirty floor of the Estate Stalls with an aching fist and enough animosity towards that stupid horse that he felt confident he'd been cured of ever wanting one again.

Rising, Lucian shot Emmet a smoldering look. "Bastardo," he growled, giving himself a shake in an attempt to dislodge any and all dirt and debris from his backside. Then, straightening, the young Sodalis ran his fingers through his mane, replacing stray strands and reforming his pompadour, before smoothing out his clothing and leaving the Estate Stalls without another glance.

He needed a drink.

Inspecting his knuckles on the way to the bar, Lucian was relieved to see no real damage — just inflammation, bruising, and splinters, which he began to pick out with a swift lick and gentle nibbling from his incisors. Centering himself, the young man gave his hands a quick shake before pulling open the Estate doors and proceeding towards the bar. He gave the room a quick scan, searching for any of his usual friends or flames, but saw nobody of any particular interest. But if Lucian was anything, he was social and making friends had never been a weakness of his.

Keeping friends, on the other hand... Well, some Luperci just didn't have any personality at all.

"If I'm not mistaken," Lucian said to a dark new Sapien with eyes of oceanic blue, his usual wry smile on his lips. "You're new here. I'm Lucian Amaranthe." He emphasized his name with a thick Spanish accent. "Would you mind company?"

[/html]Finding the place deserted was rather alarming. In all his time since joining Sapient there had always been someone within the bar when he'd passed by it's doors. Often as night there was an uproar occurring within it's depths, with drunken games and antics soon to spill out and into the rest of the estate. Shrugging, he entered anyway, only toying with the idea that there was a practical joke or reason it was empty for a moment, but the effort to actually do something seemed wasted on a bar, where drunks were making fools of themselves without any additional assistance.

Having just made himself a drink and settled upon the sofa at the end of the room, it's soft pillows almost swallowing him alive in the process, barely managing to take a sip before someone did enter the bar with him. And what a pretty someone that was; his clothing refined, hair in perfect place and a wry smile in greeting, the male who introduced himself as Lucian was certainly a man after his own heart.

“You ask that as if someone would actually mind your company,” placing his large mug down on the table before him, he leant back into the long sofa with ample room for another two, or three if they were to squeeze, inclining his head to the space.

“I'm Trident and yes, new and sticking out like a sore thumb around here.”[html]

Lucian's smile tilted and his brows lifted. Whether or not the newbie was simply trying to be flattering it mattered not to the young Amaranthe. Flattery was everything and Lucian liked it. A short, purring laugh slipped out of his throat. "I admit," he began, stepping closer. "Rare though it is, there are some." But a swift shrug promised that it was no bother to Lucian — a promise that the young man was quick to tout but knew was false. Whenever he thought of Nieve and how she had snubbed him the desire to ruin her with rumors bubbled in his heart.

Oh yes, he definitely needed a drink.

Excusing himself a moment, Lucian padded lightly to the bar and selected a jar of amber liquor to bring back to the sofa with him. If they were going to be the only two in the bar tonight they may as well drink their share.

Waving the jar carefully, its tempting poison sloshing gently against the glass sides, Lucian returned to Trident with a bright grin. "Let's drink," he replied, settling himself down upon the sofa closer to Trident than he had intended. The scent of the man's personal cologne was pleasing. He took a swig of the jar and hissed softly as it burned the length of his throat.

Adjusting his position on the sofa, Lucian rested an elbow atop the billowy cushioned back and bent one of his knees, foot on the seat, while the other remained on the ground. It was an easy, comfortable, relaxed position and provided the young man with a better look at his new companion. He was handsome, he decided. Competition, he wondered. Or another option? He cleared his throat. "Trident, huh?" he began after taking another swig. It sounded to him like something a Krokaran would name their kid but Trident did not smell like Krokar. "Well, keep drinking with me and my bros and you'll fit right in," he promised with a grin. "So, where'd you come from, Trident?"

[/html]“Ah, then those rare individuals simply have no taste,” because what he was seeing of this male was simple fine, pale eyes lingering along the pristine lines of the males clothing with open relish. Certainly, it was hard to believe anyone with good taste would say no to spending time in the company of this male specimen. There was very, very little that he'd say no to for this male; maybe though, that was just proof of how little class he himself actually had, despite his attempts to manifest the belief that he was refined and sophisticated.

Since the other moved to get himself a drink, he allowed the moment to draw out, eyes lingering on the male and enjoying the sight of him, staring unabashed and continuing to do so even when the guy turned around, a small, secretive grin gracing his lips as he reluctantly dragged his eyes back up the males voice, catching sight of the jar and laughing softly. Clearly the plan was for them to get trashed, which was fine by him.

Leaning forward, he reclaimed the mug he'd left on the table before them, taking a large sip from it, shifting on top the pillows to angle himself towards his companion, inclining his head when the male repeated his name to him.

“Now that's some logic I cannot argue with. And I'm from, was from, Midnight Shores. Now tit for tat, you'll have to give me something back; a secret for a secret, a fact for a fact.”[html]

"That," Lucian said from across the room, flashing a winning grin at Trident. "Is something I can drink to." He padded nearer the bar and chose his poison, thinking how this strapping, devilishly handsome man was just the kind of person whose company he needed right now. That was to say: someone agreeable, dapper, and, perhaps above all else, someone who recognized Lucian's own potential and worth.

And, finally, someone with whom Lucian didn't have to work unbelievably hard to win over. Unlike Nieve and, on a lesser degree, Sloan. Oh, but the chase was good fun. His verdant eyes danced over the little, reticent smile spreading Trident's dark lips. But then, was it so wrong to enjoy the company of someone who was a little easier every once in a while? As the younger Amaranthe strode confidently back and took his place next to the sharp-dressed man, he decided that no, there was nothing wrong with that at all.

With upper lids lowered in impish delight and his crooked smile sharp on his face, Lucian considered Trident a moment before taking another swift swig, letting the jar hang from his fingers while his elbow rested on top of the pillows. Finally, he nodded. "Fair enough," he replied, clearing his throat. "But your birthplace could hardly be considered a secret, so you only get this in return: Sapient has always been my home." A challenge flashed bright in his eyes. "So, how about a real secret then?"

[/html]Pale eyes stared across at into his companions vibrant greens, accessing him, weighing the males personality before speaking any further. Starting the game of secrets had been easy, where as playing it was a little more complicated. After all, many of his secrets were hidden away for a reason, his core being shrouded in lies and misdirection to create the persona that he showed to everyone around him – he couldn't risk losing face but speaking something out of turn or that the male may later spread to the rest of the pack.

“Okay then. I lost my virginity on Sapient's borders, back when I was still a member of Midnight Shores,” it was the first thing that popped into his head and he doubted that, due to his interactions with her in the prior university meeting, it was hardly a secret that Sybil and he knew each other. Not that he was naming her or anything. Just the place. Which really hadn't been all that romantic – fun, certainly, but also not something to sing home about.

“So, hows that for a secret?” bringing his mug to his lips, he swallowed another mouthful down, the familiar burn and warmth of the drink unwinding him, allowing him to relax further into the sofa as he waited, amused by their conversation thus far, to see how Lucian would counter that.[html]

The liquor warmed him. He could feel it burning in his ears and cheeks and nose, as though the fiery liquid was boiling on the surface of his skin. Lucian relished the feeling and he smiled. Already he was feeling looser, less inhibited by his own mental barriers (of which there were admittedly few to begin with), and leaned forward on the sofa as the handsome Collins spilled the secret of his lost virginity.

Lucian's ivory fangs appeared beneath the wry grin that he flashed Trident. "Really?" he said conspiratorially, wishing that he knew who it was that this handsome man had lost his virginity to. He wondered if that was the reason Trident had come back to join them following his former pack's disbandment. Did he intend to start a relationship with this person? Lucian regarded the darker man a moment longer with bright eyes and a brighter grin. "That's a good secret, not gonna lie," he said at last, then good another sip of his liquor. Liquid courage.

But the young Amaranthe wasn't about to disclose the fact that his virginity was still hatefully intact. "I'm afraid my secret isn't so revealing as yours, but—" He took another swig. "I've never met my father," he said, wiping his lips with the back of his hand. He had considered revealing that he had planned out ways to trick Sloan, considering her inability to see well, but felt that this was safer. Lucian didn't know Trident and it was too risky he should tell him something that could jeopardize his relationship with her. "Hell, I don't even know his name. My mother says that I have his eyes and that's all she'll say."

It was a little bit of a sensitive subject with Lucian, particularly since his brother, Solomon, tended to pick up that role in their lives as puppies, but the alcohol numbed the usual feelings of anger and unfairness and he was able to shrug it off.

[/html]Downing another few mouthfuls, he grinned to himself, knowing it was a good secret – one he also probably should of kept to himself, but the alcohol running through him loosened his lips and the words were already there. It wasn't like Lucian would know it was Sybil; they hardly interacted since then, even when they'd bumped into each other again in the pack meeting hosted by Tzlia There wasn't bad blood between them, but the whole affairs wasn't something either party seemed to care much for or intend to repeat.

Expecting a response similar to the lines he'd started this sharing session with, blue eyes blinked in surprise at his companions confession. To never have met his father, to note even know his names; if only he himself had been that lucky.

“Count yourself lucky then. My so called father upped and left. Then the guy who filled his boots lasted a little longer, only to do the same. Better to never meet your dad, than to have them walk out on you,” it was the alcohol talking now, prompted by the males secret that brought his own to the forefront of his mind. No one here knew that about him, except the other midnighters. Part of him wanted to have his past forgotten, to not be labelled that guy whose dad, twice over, didn't want to bother with him.[html]

Another swig and the alcohol cascaded down his throat like a fiery waterfall. He wrinkled his nose and curled his lips, rows of clenched teeth appearing briefly, and sucked in a short breath. But damn it felt good. He felt good. Even with the talk of deadbeat fathers and repeat abandonment, Lucian felt better now than he had all day. Maybe it wasn't such a bad thing after all that he had been made a fool from a horse. If he hadn't, he might not have ended up in the bar talking to this agreeable and interesting ex-Midnighter.

Emerald eyes settled on Trident, slightly narrowed in consideration of the man's words. "Think so?" he replied, his words thick against his tongue. Then, quite suddenly, the young Amaranthe replied loudly. "Know what? Yeah! Who needs 'em, am I right? Fuck dads. Fuck parents!" The grin on his face was sharp and broad. "I'd take friends over family any day. Friends are all that you need, right bro?"

Lucian tipped the jar back and poured liquid fire down his throat, thinking how much better he felt surrounded by friends. Nobody in his family — not even his dear, disappointing mother and especially not Solomon — could relate to him the same way that Dareios or even this newbie, Trident, could.

[/html]A heavy, stifling sensation wrapped around him, threatening to overwhelm him. Grief. He recognised it for what it was, yet as always he pushed through it, refusing to allow himself to feel anything of such a nature for the two men who'd tossed him aside so carelessly. They were the ones who'd disappeared and abandoned him, it didn't matter to him if they were dead or alive – no matter what, he'd never allow him to feel their loss, to let the hurt they'd caused sink in.

He downed the remained of his drink, rising abruptly to get another one, inclining his head to the bar in silent question if his drinking companion wanted a refill. Reaching behind it, he plucked several bottles up at random, already knowing that he was going to need several more to shrug off the funk that he'd slipped into.

“Exactly. No point in letting parents define you,” he plopped the drinks down on the table before them, before re-seating himself, stabbing the stopper and pulling it free from the bottle, downing several mouthfuls of it's content before fully relaxing into his seat. Certainly, with fire down his throat and entering his system, the past the haunted him was much easier to deal with.

“So, your turn to share, I believe?”[html]

OOC: Lucian... is already tanked. xD Probably should've eaten something before drinking hard liquor. He's going to regret that in the morning!

When Lucian raised the jar to his lips again only drops wet his tongue. He lowered the jar and watched as Trident rose and started towards the bar, feeling numb and reckless and wonderful. His sight was getting fuzzy, perhaps even doubled, and his head felt simultaneously heavy and light. When he caught the inquiring tilt of Trident's head, Lucian raised his empty glass and rocked it gently in the air in response. He felt like he could drink the bar dry tonight if he wanted to.

"Damn straight," he said, a little more loudly than he realized. Drink was making him unbridled and thoughtless. Toxic green eyes watched as the dark ex-Midnighter returned with several more bottles of liquor, which were plopped unceremoniously down on the table. Lucian eased himself forward, tipped to the side, managed to balance himself again, then selected a bottle at random. Lucian more or less flopped back down against the back of the couch with his prize.

Once he managed to get the the bottle free of its stopper, Lucian tipped its contents down into his gullet and swallowed deeply. "Man, let me tell you something," he began through slurred speech, leaning forwards a little. With the alcohol coursing his veins and no substance besides drink in his belly, Lucian felt the last of his caution snap. "I never had sex, bro. I never had. But shit there's this girl, right. So goddamn fine. But we haven't even kissed yet. Bro, what do I gotta do?"

[/html]Choking on his drink, he spurted out the remainder of his mouthful in what can only be described as messy and undignified, caught of guard so completely that only his usually iron clad manners failed him, pale blue eyes widening with the knowledge that his reaction was no doubt going to cause offence and probably do some serious ego bruising, but could he really be blamed? He'd assumed from the way Lucian spoke and acted that the male had quite a number of conquests under his belt.

“Oh man, sorry, totally wasn't expecting you to say that,” he placated, trying to cover up for his initial reaction, looking sheepishly over towards Lucian as he wiped his chin and examined the state of his clothing; most of it had gone on the table, saving him his dignity at the very least.

“I mean, if she's a bit of a high standard type, she's going be expecting you to take her out a few times, do something fun, go for a meal. Will probably be expecting you to make the first move – so like, just do something hella romantic, even if it's super cheesy and not your style, then just do that. Make a move?” it seemed like sound advice to him, who was a few bottles along and had never in his life actually done what he was advising.

Then again, he never did chase those with high standards or class.[html]
