Mads had never figured that it was possible to love somebody thing much. But seeing the two little girls romping around on the stable floor made his heart swell to immense proportions. While it was obvious that only Harley was truly his, his love for Riddle was just as feverant. So too was his love was his love for Moon Moon. What had begun as infatuation, as "doing the right thing' had blossomed (at least for Mads) into something akin to love.

While another man may have snatched up his children and ran after the, uh, incident, Mads had had the ability to consider things in an entirely different manner to most. He understood. He understood her more feal way of thinking and did not balk when feral proclivities shined through. The Dane understood that Harley and Riddle were strong girls and they were in no trouble. Granted that didn't stop him being somewhat upset about Snowy. He'd erected a small memorial once he'd found time, hopefully he'd find some snowdrops around too to decorate it later on...

Under their father's supervision, the girls frolicked and played upon the dusty floor of the stable, well away from any dangerous hooves. Riddle tackled Harley, then Harley did the same in turn, and then both tried to gang up on their father when suddenly, a haystack sneezed. Both girls' ears perked and two sets of puppy eyes turned to the corner from which the suspicious sound came, and then they barreled toward it. Both girls lept up and soared through the air, and just as the two earthen bodies disappeared into the hay, the haystack exploded and out leaped Moon Moon. She didn't stop to see her daughters' reactions – she couldn't have, anyway, because they were both ear-deep in the now scattered hay – as she ran across the stable, trailing straw behind her from here to Timbuktu.

Save me from tha monstah's! she squealed, as she dove for cover behind Mads, looking much like a monster herself with bits of straw and other stable detritus poking out of her mane and fur.

What was left of the hay stack was wriggling and writhing as the two pups swam around in there, trying to find their way out. Occasionally an ear could be seen here, a rump there, but they kept knocking into each other, or the wall. They probably forgot they were supposed to be looking for their mother at all, and were just having fun making a bigger mess of the dry grass now.

Moon peeked out from behind Mads' shoulder, grew bored, and stepped next to him. Hands on her hips, she seemed pretty displeased that she had been forgotten about. Bah, she said, swiping her hand through the air. They ain't no good at this. Is there gonna be any hope fer them in the future? Her voice was that of a mother who was worrying about a teenage drug addict or something.

So, she said, swinging around to peer into Mads' face, a bit too close for comfort, or to focus on – as usual. What we gonna do t'day? We gonna find us a house yet? I'm tired 'a livin' in tha cart like some settlers travelin' tha country.

Baby you're a firework
Come on let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
You're gonna leave 'em fallin' down

If the girls were surprised at Moon's sudden appearance, then Mads was doubly so. A quick double take was enough to set his jaw agog as a white hay monster launched at him. After a moment, he was less surprised, this was a typically Moon interruption and it brought more amusement than anything else. As she was apt, his... whatever, she was to him, drew up to him as close as she could. What most would find an uncomfortable invasion of their personal space, Mads found as more humorous than anything and with a grin, he planted a lick on her cheek.

'Monsters don' seem too bothered by y'...' The Dane smirked, throwing an arm around his companion and pulling her in close as he admired the fruits of their union. Laughing at her worries, he shook his corded mane and shrugged, 'Ah, they'll get i' a' some point, they're only small...' They only wanted to have fun now of course. Eventually, they would gain the ability to walk on two legs and manipulate objects with human-like dexterity and then they would have all the tools they needed. But until then, they were kids and Mads had little to no expectations of them.

'Ah s'pose we should find a place t' stay...' the Dane agreed. Today was as good a day to do that as any, he supposed.

I s'pse if they ain't scared of monsters then maybe they're brave, she said, then tipped her ears back and muttered under her breath, but I been brave like that an' people call me stupid. Moon Moon had quite the happy-go-lucky disposition, and this was what people saw most of the time. Unfortunately, she was not as daft-headed as most people assumed, being just smart enough to know what most people thought of her. It was just that, most of the time, she was a bit too off her rocker to care. Sometimes, though, in her more lucid and cogent moments, it bothered her. Now that Mads was around her so much, he likely was catching on... even if he wasn't the brightest flame on the log, either.

Luckily, Moon also forgot what she was talking about the moment she uttered the self-conscious statement, because her daughters were doin' a heckin' cute.

Yeah, she said, at least remembering the housing situation. An' we don't want people thinkin' we're gonna just up an' leave. Livin' like we do looks like we're ready to go at any moment. If there was one thing Moon was good at, it was revering Pack with a capital-P. She didn't want any of her new family to think she was the type of wolf to duck out.

C'mon! she said, poking Mads with her own freckled nose, a bit of a return to his earlier lap of greeting. I'll race ya there! A streak of white bolted from the stable, and catching the action, the two puppies barked and followed as fast as they could on their stubby little legs.

The only people for me are the mad ones.

Mads frowned. Although there was part of him that agreed with the sentiment that Moon Moon wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, he in no way agree that she was stupid. She had her own, zany intelligence and that simply wasn't apparent to those who judged her before they knew her. Granted the Dane himself wasn't that smart either, no considering what most people took for intelligence. He was a simple farmboy, sedate and docile. He sought no intelligence by way of books and complex things and instead contented himself on rearing happy and healthy animals. Animals which included his wild daughters...

As it was prone to under Moon's direction, the conversation lept from one subject to another and Mads obediently followed. She had a point, they didn't appear very settled at the moment and he supposed that, yes, it did look like they were ready to take off at any point. His heart fluttered a little at the idea of "settling down", but it was a good flutter, an excitable, joyous flutter. He had a family of his own now, two beautiful daughters and a wild, vicarious... girlfriend, he supposed... Which also afforded him two strapping stepsons and a wise, sage father-in-law too! The happiness he found in the novelty of the situation shone on his face and left him wondering what else was to come. Would Moon Moon eventually decided that she liked Mads enough to make their arrangement official? Would Harley and Riddle be the only two Ibsen-Damaichus to exist, or..?

With Moon shooting out the door in a lively fashion, it gave the Dane a great opportunity to shake the over-enthusiastic thoughts from his head and bounding after her, Riddle and Harley in tow (and hampering his speedy chase!).
