After a week’s preparation, Lillith felt she was finally ready to step up to Salsola’s borders unafraid and laden with gifts. As always, the Trombetta girl sought to go far above and beyond any expectations set for her, even those made by a relative stranger, in this case Draugr. The dark woman of the Thistle Kingdom had explained exactly what was expected of Lillith when she requested to join their group, and the dark girl had checked and double checked the things she had created for their expert craftsmanship and beauty, before wrapping them away in a soft snow shoe hare fur.

For the past several days Lillith had been camped outside the Outpost, a makeshift town and market that had recently been established to the north. Here she had been able to procure harder to find crafting materials, and had been thankful for that; the rarer and more exquisite the gift, the higher her probability of being accepted amongst the Salsolans.

After a full meal, a thorough grooming, and anointing herself in floral extracts and sheep’s fat for a sheen, Lillith turned her steed southward. The trek to Salsola lasted the majority of the day at a brisk canter, and by the time she came upon their borders the sun was just beginning it descent. Korosk huffed, sweating, and chewed against the bit as Lillith dismounted him, removing her gift from his back and setting them on the ground to be unwrapped once she was greeted. She then lifted her head to the sky and let out a clear, shrieking howl for the leaders, and then stood stoically for them to arrive.

(+5)aww yis, a Nat

The presence of the cougar had increased Salvia’s patrols, though she did not always travel on four legs. Now that TaeKyung was aware of the animal she too had been put to use hunting it. It felt like they were chasing a phantom. Her frustration had caused moments of weakness, but she had been careful not to let them slip. This was why, after a particularly brutal training session, Salvia had gone looking for something to ease her mood. It turned out this was grooming Horse.

Eris had disgraced herself not once, but thrice over. Such behavior could not go unpunished and Salvia, whose instinct and upbringing reinforced such ideas, had done the only thing she could think of. The animals would find better lives now; Draugr had proven more than capable with the slave and, given that the jungle-cat was used to Axi, it seemed appropriate he would go there. The owl was a stupid toy. Horse, the Boss had decided, belonged to her because it had once been Larkspur’s.

The mare was not at all neglected, given that Tarat’s entire purpose in life was to care for these animals, but she was not given the extra attention that Salvia believed needed. So she, Boss of Salsola, spent well over two hours rubbing down and coming out the big mare’s mane and tail until she gleamed like a new sun. The weight in her belly was promising—soon, Salvia thought. She wondered again at the father, and suspected it Black again.

Most of the mares were showing, which also pleased her. Salvia was ready for spring and eager for the foaling. She was discussing (or rather, telling) Tarat about this when a sharp howl rose from the borders. It asked for her, which suggested someone who knew what they were after. Luckily, Tarat’s presence meant she had time to rinse the stink of horse from her pelt in nearby snow, rub a light bit of the pine perfume along her body to further mask the scent, and gather her things.

He passed her Trader and atop the buckskin gelding, Salvia rode towards the borders. She did not have to wait long before the source of the sound emerged. A peculiar looking woman was waiting for her there. Dog, Salvia thought by her pelt, but she was not this—in fact, Salvia saw very little beyond the peculiar coloration to suggest she was anything but a wolf. Of course, Salvia herself looked like a true wolf…only a very well trained eye might catch the proof that she was not.

There was a beautiful horse with her too, one that reminded her of Nacht. She was glad to have not brought him, preferring Trader’s easy-going attitude for such meetings. Salvia took the display of wrapped goods as proof that this woman was either a trader or clever enough to not wish to waste time. That was well enough for her. “I take it you are the one who called,” Salvia said without dismounting. Though easy in the saddle, she was none the less dominant and making her high rank apparent.

As Lillith stood there waiting, she took a moment to view her surroundings. The borders of Salsola looked uninteresting, like most of the borders save Inferni. There was the distinct smell of salt in the air; the sea was close. Lillith didn’t mind this, she liked the sea, that being one of the reasons she had chosen to the live by it in Anathema. Perhaps she could live there again, here, if she were to be accepted. No use counting ones chickens before they’d hatched, thought Lillith was confident and terse, as always.

Much to her satisfaction, the leader of Salsola did not take long to greet her, and came riding up on a horse of her own. Korosk raised his head and muttered lowly, the stallion always happy to meet a mare or gelding; Lillith believed he was lonely. As the woman rode up, smelling of water and pine, Lillith straightened up though her ears flattened and long tail tucked neatly against her stringy thigh. The woman asked if she had been the one who called, more stated then asked, and Lillith gave a slow bow of her head, her eyes averted, I am. My name is Lillith Trombetta and a week ago one of your own named Draugr met me by chance. She invited me to try ask your acceptance into Salsola. And then, with eyes still averted, Lillith bent her tall, lithe frame down to unroll the fur. Within, all neatly tied against the fur backing to keep them in order, were many variations of crafted trinkets. Jewelry mostly; rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, many made of a variety of stones and agates and expertly mounted on leather, string, or chains. But there were also hair pieces, sewn objects, gloves, hats and the like.

Lillith stood and clasped her hands together, I am a crafter; I know how to sew, tan, and forge, to a degree. I can create any article of clothing you could ask of me, I can dye furs any color you could imagine. She lifted her arms slightly to show off her beautifully made black leopard cloak, which she in fact had not made, but that didn’t need to be known; she could duplicate it if she wanted to.

Then, gesturing to Korosk, I also offer Korosk as a stud stallion; he has made strong offspring before and surely could be used to make more strong stock for Salsola. She looked up then, though did not meet the woman’s eyes, just up to her nose, but she felt this was necessary to show how serious her next gift was, I also offer you explicit and detailed knowledge of Anathema’s crow system and current political status. I was at Aeron’s right hand before she betrayed me. And with that Lillith stood there, head bowed, and waited for the Boss’ judgement.

(+5) ok fine omega forever lololol. Gonna title her up but I would like to continue this, yes yes. :3

Salvia studied the shape of the woman’s body, finding it too skinny for her own liking. It suggested that she had not eaten properly in a long time, but this did not mean she was starving. No, her face was too full and her eyes too bright for that. The other woman was younger than her but spoke well, which pleased Salvia. She had encountered far too many folk that fell short of her expectations of them. This Lillith was no stranger to waltz in, and gave a name valued in the arsenal of Salvia’s subordinates. This most certainly helped her case.

The display caught her attention even as Lillith went on to explain her skills. Salvia finally dismounted, swinging off the buckskin easily. She kept one hand on his reins and moved towards the items. Though she did not stoop to examine them, Salvia’s eyes were those of a well-trained merchant. She was the daughter of such lessons and knew things well simply by look alone. The items were stonework and leather, and the woman mentioned metal-work. If Pandemic hadn’t failed in his task, Saliva thought grimly, they would have finally had use for it. Scrap metal was not hard to come by, but things that could be worked…well, that was beyond her capabilities.

Then the boldness of Lillith’s gesture caused Salvia to still from her long-distance examination of the horse, and she listened with the attention suggested by the posture and tone. Though no expression betrayed itself on her face, Salvia was surprised. It was not often that information simply waltzed into her land, especially when it had the name of one of her Henchmen to back it up.

Salvia’s green eyes narrowed slightly as her brain, already seeing possibilities, whirled by. When she finally spoke, her voice was even and surprisingly light in tone (for her voice was deep, throaty) as she addressed the stranger on her borders. “Draugr was right to send you here,” Salvia told Lillith, and let her gaze fall back onto the items. “These make a fine gift. You will find yourself with others who have such talents as well…my brother,” she admitted, and thought rather cruelly it would be quite a thing to force him to make use of himself again. “He knows something of metal. You may find assistance in him, perhaps.”

Those same eyes turned back to the horse, and yes, he was certainly a fine breed. She could not use him for her intended purpose, but many of the mares were not lined up for such a thing. Certainly, in the next few weeks, she could sort out a plan. They had time before foaling, after all.

It was only then that her gaze returned to Lillith and hardened, predatory, savage and with just a hint of the true malevolence within. “It is a very serious thing you offer, Lillith Trombetta. What did Aeron do to send you away?” Most certainly, Salvia did not wish to invite someone to her home that might cause undo trouble. Her mind was mostly made up as it stood, but protocol was protocol; and suspicion was one of the core tenants of Salsola’s doctrine, after all.

It seemed that her gaudy show had made some kind of impression on the lady as she dismounted to have a better look at Lillith’s offerings. The dark woman watched the still unnamed leader in silence, though it was not long before she was given a response, and from this response Lillith could only gather that the woman was pleased. Instead of smiling and wagging her tail like any other of her age might do, Lillith remained stoic, eyes sharp, and gave a nod. It was then that the blond madam turned to look upon her fully, her bright green eyes piercing, to ask her for more detail regarding Aeron and Anathema. Lillith could see what Draugr had meant by the strength that those in Salsola possessed, if this woman was one to be taken as an example; she was fearsome, and had Lillith not lacked the ability to fear another living being, she would have.

Lillith looked down at the woman, for she was at least a good foot taller than her, but kept her eyes averted coolly and respectfully, It is a long story to tell. Since I was a babe Aeron had had a special eye for me, she even trusted me to play alongside her own soulless daughter. It was not long after my first shift that Alaki and Naniko abandoned us and Aeron drew all the strength she could to her aid. She placed me, just a pup still, as her right hand and confidant. I was loyal without end to her, I would have died for her if she would have only asked it of me, and I defended her without question, even if I disagreed with some of the finer points of her new leadership.

Lillith shifted somewhat on her boney feet, and the soft flapping of wings alerted her that Skrak and Barkek had alighted on Korosk’s back, but gladly they remained silent in the presence of the blond Boss; Lillith continued, Everything Aeron did and said told me that I was to believe she considered me important and without equal, she even began to groom me as her lover. She claimed I and her were the same, but I knew this could not be so; she had taken upon herself a weakling mate, a wolf not even worthy to be my slave let alone my competition. And then, just when I was beginning to believe that my ascension was at hand and that all the things promised to me would come to fruition, Aeron chose instead to enter into an unholy and twisted union with not only my mother, but my father as well. The four of them together, ruling Anathema under a canopy of disgusting sexuality and Bacchian pleasures that I could not have had imagined. And I was left like trash with the rest of the weak in Anathema, as if all my loyalty, all my service, had meant nothing.

Lillith’s voice had raised several steps in pitch during her speech, and this was the only indication of the rage and burning hate she felt inside for all of this. But as soon as the main story was out, the anger quickly subsided once more to gray monotony and Lillith calmed again, I do not claim to know more than those who came to this world before me, but I know my own beliefs and follow my own doctrine, and what Aeron and my parents have done is unforgivable. If it was my choice I would see Anathema destroyed, but I am too small to accomplish any such thing, and so I would not even dwell on committing any such actions. She clasped her hands together then, And I’m sure that they do not even think of me anymore, and if they do, their thoughts are most likely fleeting; my father came looking for me several days after I left, completely drugged out of his mind. Since then, I have not heard or seen anything of Anathema or Aeron.

Though Lillith suggested her story would be long, she began it none the less. Salvia listened to her quietly, looking over the objects and occasionally sparing a glance towards the reddish she-wolf. There were drops that made Salvia curious; such as a “soulless” child, and that a leader might choose another child to aid her, and that for some reason the behavior of Aeron’s personal life so offended Lillith. Green eyes drifted to a pair of black birds that took roost on the horse. Certainly belonging to this woman, no doubt; this was less surprising to her, given the nature of Anathema’s raven system. Inferni, to Salvia’s knowledge, implored such techniques.

Then came the mention of not one, but both of Lillith’s parents becoming mates with the leader…and her current other. It was an idea that surprised Salvia. She was used to the concept of Family extending beyond blood and into sexuality, but between two as opposed to a harem. Certainly Lillith found issue with it, and the blonde woman imagined exactly how that betrayal had felt. After all, not long ago the same sickness had been hurled in her face. She could not openly oppose it, nor would she, but oh had that wrath rolled over in her belly.

“That is enough,” Salvia said, and motioned for the woman to gather up her things. She certainly would not stoop to do such a thing. “Your gifts are just as well as your words; I will speak with you more about such things later, when you have settled in. For the time being you are an Associate, and Draugr will educate you about our ways. You will find that we reward loyalty and service here.” A faint smile crossed her face at this, as if finding the comment humorous. While these were doctrines her pack obeyed, it had not stopped a systematic assault against those too weak to hold their ground. Eris, most certainly, was proof of that.
