Rules Update -- Graphics

Recently, we've seen an increase in the use of animation for signatures, tables, etc. Sometimes, this can be quite well done! However, other times -- jaggy GIF loops, excessive movement, and otherwise jarring motion can be extremely distracting -- and downright dangerous to some! For example, epilepsy is a seizure disorder which can be triggered by such things as GIFs -- while we don't advertise our site as epileptic-safe, we do wish to keep it as friendly as possible for these users.

So, we've made updates to our Graphics rules, which we encourage all members to take a look at in their complete form. The update we've made, though, is such:

Quote:

Animated images (GIF files) and text (marquees, blinking effects) may not be used in avatars or post tables. GIFs may be used in profiles and signatures, provided the animation is non-intrusive (e.g., not overly distracting), loops smoothly (e.g., not flashing, strobing, or looping at a high speed), and not excessive (e.g., 10+ animated banners in your signature).

Major Wiki Updates
  • The Flora and Fauna have been shoved over to the Wiki, along with lots of accompanying information. There are individual pages for many creatures and useful plants. Much of this information is still being cleaned up! You can help us out with that, if you'd like! ;)
  • New Open Characters Guide to adopting out open characters and finding them players -- we've had a lot of adoptables lately, so this guide comes at a good time, we think!
  • Areas section has been revamped and changed somewhat -- we're looking forward to putting tons of images on each page!
  • New mature content marking method using page includes.

Requests Page

Specifically, we wanted to highlight updates made to the Requests page. It has received a pretty extensive revamp, including examples of requests, formatting changes, and various other changes which may help those 'Soulsters wishing to make character or puppy requests.

Early Requests and Exceptions

Recently we've received quite a few more requests for early auxiliary characters, early secondaries, exceptions to requests, and so forth -- we wished to reiterate our stance on this, and as such it is one of the major updates to our requests page. If you have any questions regarding requests, we encourage consultation of the information therein. The specific section we've added, relevant to these requests, is:

Quote:

The 'Souls Assemblage does not evaluate requests on any other factors -- OOC activity, membership longevity, recent absences, dropped plots, and other such extenuating circumstances are not evaluated for any requests. This is in the interest of fairness -- such reasons can be subjective, and we much prefer to evaluate on hard numerical data. It's objective and can be evaluated in the same way every time.

Similarly, the procedures and restrictions surrounding requests were established for a reason: many players (the 'SA included!) can be grabby-handed with characters. If we all could pick up every character we wanted on a whim, we'd wind up with tons more dead threads, dead-end plots, and other things that are detrimental to the roleplay. Similarly, it's not fair to make exceptions and allow someone to pick up a character before they've waited their four weeks or two weeks, unless we're willing to make that exception for every player who comes to us and asks.

We'd like to reiterate that the procedures are as they are and we don't make exceptions for anyone -- admins, mods, leaders, and all players, regardless of personal circumstance, are all required to adhere to the same procedures in the same way. We understand that it may be annoying as a player to have to wait, but we must insist on a fair, even enforcement of the rules and procedures each and every time. You won't get in trouble for asking, but our answer will always be the same.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding! Thank you.

We've added tons of images to our Flickr favorites. Having trouble picturing 'Souls, or just in need of an inspiration boost? We strongly encourage you to check them out!

Horse Requests

The Outpost trader Dalimil has come to 'Souls this month. She has horses for offer:

  • Mare, bay. Sweet, but spirited. -- claimed!
  • Gelding, bay. Extremely fond of other horses.
  • Gelding, black. Playful and affectionate.
  • Mare, black. Older and cautious, prior breeding experience (more valuable). -- claimed!
  • Stallion available for STUD only: Vlast, chestnut. Vlast is a dominant and high-spirited animal -- he is ill-suited for easily spooked or inexperienced mares. He is a very pretty horse with conformation typical of a Svantevit horse. His mane and tail are very long, even for their standards.
    • Stud opportunity -- claimed!
    • Stud opportunity -- claimed!
    • Stud opportunity -- claimed!

Request Rules
  • Requests are NOT A GUARANTEE of approval. The 'SA approves or denies these requests based on the application received and in the order of applications received. Don't assume your horse is owned until you receive a PM confirming the claim.
  • Packs may request horses for communal stores.
  • Your character may not claim a horse if they already have a horse companion.
  • Keep in mind the typical description of a Svantevit horse.
  • The horses are offered as is -- changing genders, descriptions, personalities, etc. is not permitted.

Request

Please reply here with your request. Even if all the horses have already been requested, it is worthwhile to post anyway: someone else's request may not be approved.

Accepted Trades

The following are some examples of trades that might be accepted for the horses to give players an idea of what might be accepted for a Svantevit horse. This shouldn't be used as an exact guideline: we'll obviously accept other items! However, keep in mind the approximate value of each of these items when formulating your trade:

  • Stud opportunity: Well-made saddle, ten smoked fish
  • Stud opportunity: Well-made saddle, five horse blankets
  • Standard horse: Well-made saddle, three bottles of alcohol, twenty smoked fish, and five horse blankets
  • Standard horse: Trained Luperci slave/servant
  • Extra trained horse: Five scavenged human books on useful subject (e.g., not a novel/fiction)
  • Extra trained horse: Well made saddle and bridle, five bottles of alcohol, thirty smoked fish, and seven horse blankets
  • Extra trained horse: Scavenged human sword, 30 arrows, a book on native plants

Character Name: Saul Stormbringer
Mare Name: Maia
Link to Horse Information (if available): http://wiki.soulsrpg.com/index.php?n=Pa ... imals#toc5 (second across)
What is your character offering in exchange?: One saddle and one bridle, both in good condition though worn, 10 dried fish, 10 dried rabbits and subsequently 10 rabbit skins, 3 blankets and a medium sized wicker basket.
Describe Projected Foal (25 - 100 words): http://24.media.tumblr.com/a7173d945675 ... o1_500.jpg Quite a bit darker than her dam, the foal will eventually grow into a burnished copper colour. With double chestnut genes, the filly will inherit her mothers flaxen mane, which resembles her sire's length quite a bit. Sweeter than her mother, the foal does not appear to be particularly nasty, but her fathers dominant attitude is not lost on her.

I love this idea, might as well try for a stud slot. :)

What is your character offering in exchange?: Assortment of smoked fish and venison, 2 bottles of alcohol, book on field medicine, 2 horse blankets
Describe Projected Foal (25 - 100 words): (Photo) A handsome colt combining his sire's chestnut color with his dam's skewbald pattern, and the long feathering from both parents. He is bound to be high-spirited and assertive, one day to be a dominant and sought-after stallion like Vlast.
