Today was a very special day, at least to Evelyn. Differing reasons for those that celebrated Samhain - which was something she had recently learned about from some stories she had been reading as she attempted to further learn bigger words. Evelyn and Eden were now a whopping whole year old! Her heart thrummed in her breast with her excitement as she bounced out of bed and ran over to the small dresser on the other side of her room. She had spent the night in her old room still, as her house had not quite been prepared enough for her to feel comfortable sleeping in it yet.
Ripping open one of the drawers in her excitement she pulled out the item she had been attempting to craft in her spare time in preparation to give to her brother as a gift for their birthday that they shared. Everyone kept telling her how they were going to get her gifts and such, and thus, she thought why couldn't she get Eden a gift as well! Her eyes went over the crudely put together stuffed animal of sorts that she had created to kind of look like herself so Eden always had a little piece of her wherever he lived or went. So when he had nightmares, he would have something to cuddle with at night and hold.
It was stitched together to the best of her ability with supplies that her Papa had supplied to her earlier in the month, and most of it was made from rabbit hides that she had caught and skinned herself. The eyes were made with buttons she had managed to scavenge from a few abandoned houses within the Thistle Kingdom, and to top it off, she chopped off the bottom of her hair to sew it on top of the head and therefore would carry her sent. Stuffed within were other fabrics and materials from things she could no longer wear to further give her own scent. Holding it out before her, she admired her work, hoping he would admire it too.
Evelyn wrapped it up with a small bow and hid it within her garbs she wore that morning, and headed out her door to make her way down the stairs to see who was awake. Turning a corner, she bounded out into the main living area and called out with excitement, "Good morning!"
Evelyn’s little project hadn’t gone amiss to Sebastien. At first, he’d been pleased that the skins of prey animals had been put to good use, although he’d been itching to find out what his daughter planned. He tried to let the girl keep her secrets, a difficult task when Evelyn’s footsteps rang heavily through their quiet abode. Her exuberance coincided with an important date and judging by the muffled noises from beyond the doorway, she knew it too.
He smiled to himself in the darkness of the quarters he shared with Coaxoch. Typically, the hound was one of the first to rise in the household, yet this morning found it hard to rouse. The creeping chill settled deep into Sebastien’s bones, his short coat lacking the shelter of a wolf or a northern breed. He gazed at the ceiling, briefly lost in recognising the patterns upon its surface when a familiar thought took shape.
Eden and Evelyn had become a year old and would be regarded as adults to the Kingdom and the lands beyond. With a twist in his stomach he recalled the promises he’d made to both Faith and Dahlia; were they proud of him? They became twin planets that he would always orbit, and his heart was full of the love he felt for them both as his family.
Sebastien lifted his head to call into the next room, "We'll be with you in a second hon." Coaxoch lay beside him, the warmth of his breath ruffling the dog’s chest as he swept a hand reverently through his plusher coat. Sebastien pushed himself into a seated position and laid a hand on the Ulrich’s cheek. “Coax, it’s the big day. Are you ready?”
Eden had been waiting and counting down the days to come to this one. Granted, compared to his time being summoned by the Boss for his Cueponi, this didn't hold as much weight, as it really didn't seem like something that would matter on the whole to Salsola.
However, this was an important gathering for their family. There hadn't been a time when all four of them were in one place since he had made the decision to move out of the church and find a place among the Ruins. Sure, he had some time with his sister and his Dad on separate occasions, but not together, not since they were children coming to share his freshly made meals. This would be something good for all of them, but especially for the father and son.
Both of them had wanted to patch whatever fall out had come of their relationship, and a meeting like this one would only serve to strengthen it once more.
Eden nearly bounded out of bed when morning came. He didn't have much of his own personal goods, but he had planned to get up early for one special occasion. Slipping into his loose clothing, making sure to bring his necklace, and slipping that on too, the young male nearly leapt down the stairs and outside the tower. Winter would be coming soon, and sometimes the frost could be seen when the day was still somewhat dark.
It took more time than it probably should have, but Eden managed to gather many flowers that were still growing. Many of them were common ones, and many of the ones with much more vibrant colors he would have to wait for spring before he would get the chance to see them again. Stringing the plants together, he began to follow the path towards the Blackwoods.
The familiar stones of the church came into view soon enough.
The young male came to the door, placing once of the flower crowns he had made over his head. He held three more carefully between his fingers, one for his sister, one for his Dad, and the last one for his Papa. To his side, he could feel a familiar chill run along his spin. It seemed their Mom was going to come to join with the celebration. It was a shame he couldn't make one for her.
Moving up the stone stairs, his hand moved up, giving a knock on the door, "Dad? Papa? It's me."
He had thought long and hard about the gifts he was going to bring his grandchildren, and while his niece seemed to be a bit easier to please, it had been marginally more difficult to find something that his grandson might find useful. When the opportunity had arisen, though, he had found the perfect gift for his grandson that might have been a staple to connect both son and grandson a bit by having something that they both could relate to, for he knew that Eden and Coaxoch had their differences in the past, and he would have liked to see them grow closer, just as he and Coaxoch were close.
Till had gotten up at a fairly decent time, for he had been alerted by Muerte that Coaxoch and Sebastien would be doing some sort of celebration on this day for the children, and that they would be getting all together at around noonish time. It was Dirge, who had come over to the Old Wall to begin cooking the dinner that would accompany their celebration, and all while he was doing that, Till had been speaking in Low Speech to Mirjam, who was more than happy to get a problem off of her hands and into the hands of the Patriarch. They spoke of the problem, and discussed "how many" of such a problem he could handle taking off her hands, and she was fine with the amount, and after some time of chatting, she suddenly got up from her lounging spot and jumped on a table, then jumped out of an open window. She was quick to disappear into the woods that surrounded the Old Wall, and would not be back for some time.
Till had gotten up from his wildling throne as well and had gone outside of his home to deal with the horses that he housed outside. He had been given a new horse to house for a short amount of time, for the girl did not visit his home as often as she did her own home, or the stables, so it was the "reasonable" place to hide the beast until it was time to gift it. He packed up the horse with all of the accessories that Coaxoch had given him, aside from the thing that he had known was his own contribution to the gift. While it seemed a bit much to him, Till had known that these were all things that the girl would need for her career choice, and he was happy to have been involved with helping her get the things she needed for such. The beautiful bow was handcrafted with a horse's head that bit the taut string, and the arrows he had made himself were tipped with dangerously sharp quartz crystals on the tips and owl's feathers on the butts. He thought that these were a bit more showy than his own arrows, but the girl would be able to hunt all the same with them.
She's probably gonna cry tears of joy. he muttered to himself as a wide smile came across his face and he pat the horse's neck.
Till gathered the other things that he needed, for the boy was not going to get away without being a bit spoiled as well. Within his gathered materials, he had a bottle of wine, and a few jars of various healing herbs that he planned on giving the grandson who was much more mysterious than the granddaughter who often sought out his expertise in Archery. Till wrapped all of these in a fluffy white fox pelt that could double as a boa if the grandson liked it enough.
Till mounted the horse that was the gift for the girl, and he rode the beast the long way around to the Springhill Church where they all were to gather. Once he had arrived, he "parked" the horse around back, tying the beast to the fence that was outside the garden (away from poisonous plants or plants that were within reach) and he grabbed his pack for Eden and moved towards the front of the Church.
Once he got to the front door, he saw the birthday boy at the door, knocking on the door. Till chuckled lightly as he came up beside Eden, put his hand on the smaller boy's shoulder and then he outreached his other hand to the door and opened it for the birthday boy. I'm sure your father will not care if you come in uninvited. Afterall, it is your party. he told the boy before he let the younger male go into the church first and would follow behind him.
Dirge should be here with the food soon! Our chef needed some extra time to get the meal together. he told Eden as they walked in. Till smiled to his grandson. Happy birthday, Eden. he finally told him, but still did not relinquish the white fox fur bundle just yet.

You're all my friends until the end
The dawn of his children's birth had come too soon. They were now a year old, and over the last month he had been preparing for this day. He had traveled outside of Salsola to get some things, gifts, for both his son and daughter. The night had been long for the male, as he had written hard, thought out letters for his children, sealed with candle-wax and an Ulrich stamped seal on each of them. He had gone to his father's house in the middle of the night to put the letter with his daughter's present, and then he put the other letter with his son's gift of a medic bag with a painted wolf's skull within it. The Eldest Ulrich son had looked at the wolf skull once more, and had put his finger over the Ulrich symbol that was painted on the forehead of the skull. This skull had brought a conversation up to his own father, for Coaxoch needed to know things about their family. On this night, he did not sleep until well into it. He was tired from his conversations, and from his writing. He had a lot to think about, and even as he finally rested his head on his pillow, and he snuggled up against the warm body of the Autumn Flower, he thought about the night and the weight of his family's name.
--------------------------- Father, you were born in Salsola. he asked his father while sitting at the table with the painted skull on the table beside him. He tapped the edge of the cup of tea that his father had made for him. You know that. I have only defuncted once from here when I was very young, less than a year old. Till explained to his son, shrugging his shoulders lightly as his gaze turned to the painted skull, noticing the distinct black marking upon it's forehead. Why is the Ulrich brand on this skull? I found this at the old Inferni lands while on the Outside. Coaxoch asked as he lifted the cup to his maw and sipped at the warm tea. My father was rumored to be from Inferni. This was back when we were allies, so it was not much of a big deal. It's also been rumored that I was a product of a non-consensual pairing. I do not know the validity of the second part, but I know for sure that my father was from Inferni, for I have had contact with my half-siblings. Apparently, my Half-sister was the one who named me. he explained to his son. He did not know why this skull had the Ulrich symbol on it, but he did know a little bit more about his father because of things that Sascha and Lorelei had told him about Cotl. Till did not talk much about his father, because Cotl was never in his life, so he might as well not have existed to him. Till was a bit more casual than he might have been while discussing this subject, with an icy tone that betrayed little emotion about how he truly felt about his mother and father. So we come from Inferni originally - We all are from Inferni. Then why are- Because they betrayed us. Then why are my children- Because you laid with a woman after they betrayed us Till glared at his son and deeply sighed as he leaned back in his throne, with one hand on the cat in his lap and the other on his tea cup that rose to his maw and he lapped at the leafy liquid within it. You should destroy it. he spoke as he put his cup back down on the table and he looked straight at his child. Till still had rank over him, and he thought about using it to make the evidence of Ulrich in Inferni be completely erased within history, but he wanted Coaxoch to be responsible. No. I am going to give it to Eden. Why? Because it is important that the boy knows that we are both of Salsola and Inferni. I think he would like to know. You don't think that he will reject his birthright to be of Salsola? Inferni is gone, forever. He would have no place to run to. Your children turn into adults tomorrow. Go home and get some rest. I will bring Evelyn's gift in the morning.Till had dismissed Coaxoch but Coaxoch still had more to talk about with his father. He wanted to stay, but he knew that the more that they talked into the night, the less sleep that he would get. Coaxoch walked into the night, and snuck back into his home once he got there and he slipped into bed with his partner.
---------------------------
Coaxoch had not noticed that Sebastien had shifted in bed, and the weight of sleep had settled over Coaxoch and seemed to grip at him even as the other male had called out to their daughter. Sebastien's touch was what brought the consciousness forward, and he felt a moan come from his maw as the other had pet his hands over the plush fur of the one armed man. He wanted to turn over in bed and sleep for longer, but it had seemed that he was not going to be able to, because of the arrival of his family. When the Autumn Flower's hand had made it to his cheek, Coax's eyes finally fluttered open and he looked up at the male that had been illuminated by the sun's stray rays that pushed through the dark blankets that covered the windows. "Coax, it’s the big day. Are you ready?" he was asked by the Autumn flower, and Coax groaned again. Just five more minutesss. he complained as he pushed his eyes closed and stretched out his legs and his arms*. He groaned for a third time and then suddenly sat up and looked to his partner. His hand went and pushed his hair to where it wasn't completely a mess and he sighed lightly.
I'm up, I'm up. he spoke in defeat as he stretched and yawned once more. I'm so tirredd. he told his partner with a small frown and a dramatic look coming over his eyes with slumped shoulders. He got up and got his loincloth on, and then he looked at his partner with a sleepy smile on his maw. You know, I'm happy that you are here. You helped me so much with them, and they are your children, as much as they are mine. he told her, before he let a yawn come from his maw and Coaxoch grabbed the medic bag and slung it over his shoulder, and then he held out his hand to Sebastien.
Are you ready for this? he asked, wondering if Sebastien was ready for their children to finally be adults.

Evelyn's ears twitched when the sound of her Papa's voice came from the other side of their door and she smiled happily as they were starting to rouse from their sleep. The girl could not sleep anymore as she had been too excited to get the day started as early as possible before she was required to go on her scouting mission with a few of the other pack members. Yet, in this moment she could stop and breathe and just surround herself with her family members until things got serious again.
There was a light rapping at the door that announced the presence of one or more of her family members and she could not help but skip over to the door and fling it open with as much gusto as a mini tornado in the old church. Her brother's face appeared from the other side of the door and Evelyn squealed with delight to see him. Behind him was their Opa Till and Evelyn rushed out onto the step to embrace her brother.
"Happy birthday Eden!" she said with much elation, squeezing him tight in her arms in the process as she had not seen him for at least a few days now. "Morning Opa!" she grinned, letting her brother go before ushering over to offer him a big hug too. The girl was not normally overly affectionate since aging out of those stages months ago, but this day was a cause for all sorts of familial embraces and celebrations.
"Come in! Come in!" she said, bouncing down the hall leading to the main greeting area for their guests. "Papa and dad should be out here in a minute," she grinned, ushering their guests into the house with much enthusiasm as she could. They were officially adults now, although they had been officially adults since their cueponi it was difficult for Evelyn to even feel like an adult, but that seemed to turn around today. Her official coming of age was now, and while still waif-like and youthful in appearance, the yearling could not help but feel like she was an adult now.
"Eden! I made you something! I can't wait for you to see it," she grinned, hoping her brother would enjoy her gift as much as she had enjoyed making it special for him. While her skills in homemaking were a little lacking, she poured her heart and soul into making the gift, but she did not quite want to give it to him yet until they all had finished eating.
Sebastien frowned as he looked Coaxoch over - shadows pooled in the wrinkles beneath his eyes and the tension weighed down his shoulders. In the midst of trying to get comfortable in bed during the night, he’d be vaguely aware of the blond joining him. “You look like you could use five more minutes, hon.” He pushed himself upwards, concern crossing his features. “Are you ok?” Today was important to the father, too. Emotions were bound to be running high.
The hound’s smile widened as Coax expressed his gratitude for being with him and his children. Their children, Sebastien thought giddily. For a moment, he could only stare at the other male, searching for words that could encapsulate what he was feeling. Coax, I… The moment passed before he could form the words properly and the Ulrichson stood dressed and ready. “Y-yeah! Let’s go and see our family.” Sebastien answered weakly as he let the man help him to his feet.
He greeted their guests with glittering eyes and tail wagging in delight. Sebastien beckoned Eden into the church and cooed over the boy’s flower crowns, “What wonderful colours they make together.” He moved to Evelyn’s side next, squeezing her shoulders as he announced to the room at large, “A year-old - I can’t believe it!” What a year it had been - they had all grown and survived in time of great unease in the Kingdom. “I couldn’t be more proud of you both. Of us all.” The dog grinned at Coaxoch, throwing an arm around his shoulder.
His ears perked as the fawn girl announced she’d made a gift for her brother. “Oh I want to see it too! Eden you’ve got no idea how excited I am to see what she’s made for you!” The energy of the hound's swaying tail threatened to topple him over as he settled for bouncing on the heels of his feet as he waited. Overcome with excitement, their other visitor had been momentarily forgotten. Brushing his shame aside, Sebastien gave his full attention to Till, and eyed the bundle in Till’s hands. Rose gaze lingered on the pelt with open admiration; it looked feathery-soft and dazzled in its purity and shade. “Uncle Till, it’s great to see you! What have you got there, hmm?”
I'm sorry for the wait! <3 I made some assumptions - please let me know if you want me to change anything.
Eden couldn't help but jump at the touch of his grandpa. If anything, it was his sudden appearance that had lowered his guard more than anything. He should have expected that the head of their family would come to a party that was meant to celebrate his oldest son's children reaching a year of age.
The older male had given him a small laugh, prompting him with the idea that he would probably be already if he were to step inside the church without having to knock on the door to enter. Such an idea seemed to put the young male in a strange state of mind. This place had been his home.. had been. In a strange way, it was like he wasn't welcome inside, not unless he was invited in. It was something he wasn't sure he would be able to properly explain to Till, so he came up with the next best thing, "But.. that would be rude. I can wait, it's ok."
Pink gaze focused back forward when he heard a noise coming from inside, only to have the door swung open. He was not expecting his sister of all luperci to be the one greeting them, but he wasted no time in wrapping his arms around her when she took him into her embrace. His smile returned to his maw, "Happy Birthday Eve."
Following his bouncing sister, Eden made his way inside the church, greeted by the familiar faces of his youth, well save for Dirge. The orangish uncle had come to join the couple at their home closer to when he had moved out rather than when they were living here as pups. Even so, he kept his happy demeanor...
At least until Evelyn spoke.
She made something for him?
There was a terrible feeling of guilt rising inside of him, something that to anyone else probably would have been silly. It was a birthday for both of them, and she had made something for him... but he had nothing to offer in return to her. His smile was quick to fade from his face, moving his hands up along his arms, "Eve.. I'm so sorry.. I don't have anything for you in return.. I.. It didn't cross my mind.. I'm sorry.."
This was so stupid, he was so stupid. How could he have forgotten, nay, not even let the thought cross his mind that he should have gotten a gift for his dear sister, "I'll make it up to you somehow."

Large ears could pick up the commotion of the children who had become adults on this day, and he smiled back to Sebastien as the other had suggested that he looked as if he really needed that extra five minutes. Coaxoch would survive, he was sure, and when the other had asked if he was okay, Coaxoch nodded with determination. He did not want to cry, nor did he want to make a fool of himself, and he knew he wouldn't. He took in a deep breath and nodded again. I'm going to be okay, are you? he asked, knowing that Sebastien had a bit less of a hold on his emotions comparatively. That was okay though, Coaxoch did not mind if his partner cried. It would be okay.
As the morning's bright light had filtered through old stained glass and he looked upon his children as he came into their view, he felt his chest well with a sorrow that he had not felt before. He was proud, and happy, but he knew that this also was the marking of a new chapter in his children's lives, and as he let a proud smile push on his pink mottled lips, his blue eyes glanced over and caught the deeper blues of his father's. Till had made sure to be here today not only to support his only grandchildren but also to support his eldest son, for the transition from doting father into a distantly living one had been hard on Till, too. It was the hardest thing when Coaxoch had finally moved out and into his own place, and both of the male's never forgot it.
Good morning everyone, I'm so sorry we are late. he spoke politely as he looked over his father, and then to his children. He came up and hugged each of them. Happy birthday, my sweet children. You have grown up so well, and you make me so proud. he spoke as he looked at each of them and he let his smile get just a bit brighter, even though his bright blues told a different story deep within them. Coaxoch removed the satchel from his shoulder and he handed it to Eden.
Your gifts are the bag and the things within it. I hope that these things will help you in your chosen field. he told the boy and he gave Eden a little kiss on his forehead before he looked at his little princess.
Your gifts are outside, my dear. he told her as he pointed to the backyard. You should really thank your grandfather for these treasures though. He really is the one who helped make all of this happen. he spoke as he motioned his muzzle to their grandfather. Till had been pretty quiet up until then, being sure to let the others have their time together and to not intrude where he was not needed to. Coaxoch looked to his own father and smiled to him too. Coaxoch would give anything to know what was going through Till's brain at the time, but his father was a mysterious being, and he often did know what Till thought about.

Eden was a polite boy, and he explained that walking into his former home would be rude, so they waited to be greeted at the door. Till smiled a wide smile with his ears pricked forward as he stood taller than the boy next to him. They were greeted by his granddaughter — whom was as spunky as ever— with a hug going first to her brother who shared their birthday, and then hugging him. He gave her a big hug and lifted her off the ground a little bit before putting her back on her feet. Happy birthday, my favorite grandchildren. they were his only grandchildren, but they had been lucky to have been born from his favorite tripawd son, so that had to count for something, right?
He followed silently behind the two as they moved down the corridor to the main living area, and Till watched the interaction between brother and sister. It had seemed that Eden did not think of a gift for his sister, but Evelyn had. Till did not blame the child, for he had been under some rigorous training, from what he was told. While the training was not of a physical kind, it was of a mental kind and that meant that the boy likely did not have time to think about menial things like making his sister something, or trading for something for his and his sister's birthing day.
He was sure that the gifts that their father and him had prepared for them would be more than enough to keep them happy. The male did not give his gift to Eden yet, nor did he motion towards where Evelyn's gifts were. They still had two things they were waiting on, and Mirjam had her den within the Blackwoods, so she should be coming with the kits soon, he figured.
The two fathers came from their shared domain, and did not smell of things that he might have expected them to, seeing as they shared a bed as they had. Coaxoch was a strange boy, and it was almost a surprise to him that he had children in the first place, for he never really remembered Coaxoch to be as sexually charged as his brothers were when they had reached their maturity. Till still did not know what to think of Coaxoch and Sebastien's relationship, but seeing as they did raise the children together, Till had to guess that there was enough of a romantic relationship to be able to let the children call them "father" and "papa", without much regard to the implications to what that truly meant.
He let the fathers greet their children, and he stayed back until the fathers each had called him out of "hiding". Till smiled sharply as he looked at Sebastien first. I have Eden's gift here. Coaxoch is right, and Evelyn's gift is outside in the back yard, including my gift to her. he spoke to them, but then motioned towards where he had left the door open for Mirjam to come through. There are two other gifts on their way, including Dirge's special meal that he is making for this glorious day. he spoke as he approached a cleared table and he set down the white rabbit's fur pack that his gifts were wrapped in. I am proud of every one of you. You all have become a beautiful little family, and I thank the Gods for being blessed with every single one of you. the male told them as he looked at the Fathers, then the children, and he smiled brightly to them.
He truly had a very special family in them, and he really did love each and everyone of them.

Eden embraced her with a warm hug, and she squeezed him a little tighter as she had missed having him around as there had been days that had gone by before she would see him again. It was difficult getting used to the transition, but it only made it that much more special to her when she did get to see him once again. Her eyes welled up with tears, but she was quick to displace them with the back of her hand before turning to embrace her grandfather as well with a hug, she was brought up off the ground within his strong embrace and she kicked her legs out behind her with effect and snuggled in closer to him before he let her back down on the ground, letting out a soft squeal of delight.
Eden's eyes flashed with guilt, and her own brows knit together in concern and she quickly shook her head and waved her hands in front of her to hopefully put him at ease. "Eden, trust me, it's no big deal, it was just a little something I thought of that might make us being apart a little easier!" she grinned, not wanting to completely spoil the surprise. "Your presence here is more than a gift enough!" she grinned, giving him another quick, but reassuring hug before shuffling the family into the door.
The voice of her father's caught her attention and she turned around to her Papa Seb exclaiming how happy he was and how proud he had been of the pair and Evelyn could not help but feel the heat rush to her cheeks from the pair being the center of such praise. Their father was quick to praise them and wish them a happy birthday as well, planting a kiss on each of their heads and Evelyn could not help but bubble with jubilation and bliss over the gathering of their closest family members. At the mention that her gifts were outside, curiosity almost got the best of her, but she would go outside and see them once they finished their meal that was soon to be here she was sure.
"Thank you everyone!" Evelyn exclaimed purely elated by the turn out for their small get together and happy that Dirge would soon be on his way as well. "WIll Spartacus be joining us as well?" Evelyn asked, her eyes meeting her grandfathers as she mentioned one of her favourite uncle's that she had taken to between their training together and the special interest that Till had taken in training them both.
"Once we eat I would love to see what it is you got me!" she grinned, wondering what exactly could be such a big surprise that it had to remain outside. Well, two surprises really because her father also had something for her as well. The church used to seem so big, but it was pleasantly full now with the gathering of their small family and with the promise of more to come by soon.
