Cedric worked with a hunger and passion. His muscled had been craving strain and effort for weeks now, and it felt like a relief to finally get to push them to a limit once more. It wasn't that Cedric had neglected all of his training since Fredrick came along, but his time dedicated to teaching the pup how to live had eaten greedily into the time Cedric's usually spent working his body into shape. Where the other Cavalier's stopped for breaks, Cedric made no such attempt for him, much rather remaining on a physical high than coming down and feeling the aches of hard labour. Their first day of work, or half a day by the time they'd reached the hub of New Caledonia, had been a test run for Cedric. A chance for him to taste just how much work he could put himself through, how much snow he could shovel and drag away from paths or dig out from houses. With his limits, which weren't much, in mind, the next day Cedric worked like a machine.

What was amusing was that the man had hardly spoken a word to the Caledonian's escorting and keeping an eye on him, considering Cedric had wanted to come to New Caledonia most of all for the sake of learning about their community, it seemed counter-productive. But Cedric wasn't the kind of man to pry into the lives of others, he wasn't going to go out seeking conversation with the pack. He came here to help them, as a Knight of Casa and a man who strived to help anyone he could, his own desire for knowledge and learning would come second. Actions spoke louder than words for Cedric, considering he wasn't the most confident speaker anyway, even if his vocabulary had been improving with age and experience.

Cedric lifted the shovel to rest over his shoulder whilst burning orange eyes checked over the path. Snow heaped to the sides of the doorway like small walls of compact ice, but the gravel in front of the door was finally clear. The man pried the door open slowly, hearing the creek of the worn hinges battered from age and the cold protest but fortunately not snap as they moved. The Stryder sighed in relief as the door remained intact as he tested it's ability to open. He could clear snow without a problem, Cedric's body had been honed to heavy lifting, but when it came to fixing broken doors the man was at a loss. With the door in fit condition, Cedric stuck his head into the dark interior. One of the window's had broken, allowing the inside of the unclaimed house fill with a layer of snow. Without the sunlight to melt it, the snow still sat all across the interior like dust gathered over ancient ruins. With permission from whoever watched him, Cedric began clearing out the inside.

Since it was mostly empty, Cedric didn't have to worry about moving belongings or taking too much care when clearing out the snow. A few bits of heavy debris had fallen around the inside, so Cedric started on those whilst his arms were still tense from his workout on the snow outside. A few rounds of clearing the house, and Cedric's eyes glanced to the movements of the pack around him, those there to keep an eye on the Cavalier's progress for the sake of safety. It was just by chance, but a particular glance caught the eyes of another. Canary yellow eyes, and Cedric looked back in what was close to bewilderment.

CEDRIC STRYDER

Related to [CdC] January News Post.

Through her son and Mako, Teagan had found out who had made up the Cavalier delegation; three young knights and then one that was unfamiliar entirely. Genkei had been overly ecstatic to see his friend, Temnota, after so many months apart, and the boy had been practically absent from the home since he’d learned of the Hushhowl’s presence in the area.

She had been avoiding the group of Cavaliers that—no doubt—her father had dispatched to New Caledonia. With her abrupt move—one without any goodbyes other than to the Lune himself—and her current physical state, Teagan did what Stryder’s did best; avoid and ignore what she didn’t want to deal with. She felt it made things simpler that way.

The arrival of the Cavaliers were not entirely to blame for her sudden absence in the public eye though. The Stryder was heavily pregnant, and due any day now if past gut feelings could be trusted. Instinct made her want to stay near her home, to be ready when the time came. It meant outings beyond the Fort walls were to be short and brief, if taken at all, which meant frustratingly few ways to avoid awkward contact with one of the visiting Cavaliers.

It made her wonder if Fenris was punishing her with the timing of everything.

Teagan had been returning from a short walk around the Fort’s outer walls with her Gypsy Vanner, Kenyon. He was a full stallion, and, thus, unable to roam freely in Rhovanian like the family’s mares and filly. The last headache Teagan needed was for him or Apollo to impregnate one of the pack’s mares, or, get into a fight with one of the other male horses. So, it meant that he and Apollo had to be manually exercised rather than simply turned out to pasture.

She noted a bit of headway made in clearing some of the deep snow out and away from the abandoned, unclaimed houses. It was as she came to pass one in particular that she found herself unexpectedly pausing as her canary-colored eyes met a familiar orange. In that instant, she was thankful she had worn her old rank cloak to cover her pregnant figure.

“Cedric,” she greeted neutrally, ignoring the look he gave her.

So much for avoiding this particular Cavalier in particular.

Kenyon’s ears pricked forward with interest at the sight of a familiar face. With a soft sigh, Teagan glanced to the Caledonian that had been watching over her younger brother and his progress. With a jerk of her head, she wordlessly requested that they take a short break from their duties. She’d ensure the silver-furred Brotherhood member didn’t wander off where he wasn’t supposed to.

Resigned to her fate, Teagan walked closer to the house Cedric looked to be clearing out. Kenyon followed, rumbling softly in greeting to the younger Stryder. “Liked it enough to pay it a second visit?” She asked, referring to his previous venture with Veri when the Cavaliers had sent out diplomacy summit invitations.

Truth was in Cedric's expression. He hadn't expected to see his eldest sister here. It hadn't really crossed Cedric's mind when he'd taken up the chance to visit New Caledonia. He was aware Teagan was here, his father had said as much, but Cedric wasn't going to dive into the private life of the eldest Stryder for the sake of seeing her. The pair had a fairly professional relationship as far as family was concerned. Cedric had always seeked Teagan out when he needed advice, someone to spar with, or ask her if he could work with Kenyon. Hardly ever had the two Stryder's spoken casually, but Cedric had been alright with that.

Now there was a chance to just talk, and Cedric felt in shock by the timing. His mind had been hot-wired to focus on work, making a good expression on the pack and ensuring his strength was put to good use. To go from his work-based focus to reconnecting to his eldest sister made the man lost for words for a brief moment, blinking out of his daze to see Teagan relieve his watcher and take their position. Kenyon's greet had Cedric smiling softly, glad the large horse recognised him, briefly wondering if Teagan would grant him the chance to ride the stallion whilst the chance was there.

"I did, yes." Cedric responded simply, "Good to see you Teagan, and that you are fairing well. It has taken me a while to see beyond just Casa's walls. I want to learn more and see more, and this pack has grabbed my interest." Cedric explained. He glanced to his extracted items from the house, brushing off some dust whilst still addressing his sister. "Of course I came here with the intention of offering my help, so far I haven't even had the chance to learn anything about New Caledonia, I consider my duty above my own personal interests."

“Likewise,” she replied back simply. As much as she may have wanted to have avoided him, she still cared—somewhere deep down in her cold heart—about her younger brother and his wellbeing. “How’s Father and the rest of pack? Survived the blizzard well enough I suppose if he’s sending knights out to other packs?” She let go of Kenyon’s reins, allowing the stallion to move as he pleased. The Gypsy Vanner moved forward a few paces, demanding affection from the silver male in a way that was typical of the horse’s arrogance.

He confirmed his interest in New Caledonia, though, admitted to still having learned quite little about the pack itself. “Tch,” she said under her breath, “Typical Stryder.”

Teagan sighed as she made her way over to a short, semi-crumbled wall of brick that was near the house Cedric had been working on. Heavily pregnant, she found that extended periods of standing to be a rather taxing ordeal. It made her wish she had stayed in Lupus rather than Optime at mid-term. She sat down on the wall, letting Cedric decide between whether he’d take a short break or if he return to his previous task with clearing the empty house.

“I can answer what I can if you’re curious. I can’t speak too much though,” she started off, glaring subtly at the immediate, surrounding area. “The Lord-Regent here seemed all too interested in having Casa di Cavlieri’s Warlord join their ranks,” she explained in a grumble as she scowled. Given her rather unique joining, she suspected he was suspicious of her intentions. It had only been about two months since she had joined their ranks, and Teagan wasn’t about to jeopardize her family’s livelihood.

Cedric didn't doubt his sister still cared. He'd never doubted Teagan's heart, he compared it much to his own, one of their many similarities. Sharing emotions had always been difficult for Cedric, and when he was younger he'd seen similar behaviours in his eldest sister. But as the young Stryder grew, he began to express more of himself to others, wear his heart on his sleeve even if his monotone voice and neutral expression had others assuming he only knew how to be serious. It helped to compare how Teagan acted by thinking of his own nature, that way Cedric never felt the need to doubt his sister, or feel insulted at her leaving Casa. "The Blizzard was harsh, but we acted quick. I spent the majority of it ensuring everyone was inside, but we lost quite a lot of the livestock, Tupelo and Buckeye also perished." Cedric explained, a downward flick of his ears as he thought of the old stallion. Buckeye had been the first horse the boy had ridden, what had given Cedric confidence in controlling a steed.

Thoughts on the lost horse passed as Kenyon approached for attention, making Cedric smile softly up at the great horse and offer him his hand to smell and push his snout against. "Damage done to the Fort was minimal, so there isn't anything in need of immediate repairs for the sake of homes for the pack." As his sister moved, Cedric's orange gaze took note of her gait and changes he'd not yet taken notice of. From the sight to the smells, it felt foolish that Cedric hadn't noticed his sister's pregnant state before now. Though, perhaps he'd been much more interested in actually seeing Teagan than taking in her appearance.

Whilst Cedric found it curious that Teagan's knowledge would have to be restricted due her relationship with the pack's leader, he didn't pry. Cedric wasn't the kind of man to think too far into intentions or even pack politics. "Well, could you tell me more about pack life here? In Casa, training and battle is part of our purpose, what kind of purpose sparks those living here in New Caledonia?"

Yikes @___@ Sorry about the wait! Wasn’t sure if you were using this for a rank thread, so, I revived to reply to it if you need more posts! If not, I can re-archive it<333

From the sound of it, Casa di Cavalieri had been hit harder by the blizzard than New Caledonia had. With the suddenness of it and the pack’s more established amount of wealth, Teagan supposed it was only proportionate that they lost more animals to the freezing cold. Still, she hadn’t been ready to hear of Tupelo’s passing. The mare had been a prominent presence in the Stryder’s life since puphood. She had been the first horse Teagan had ever interacted with, the one that had started her love for the hoofed beasts.

“That’s unfortunate to hear about the animals,” Teagan commented stoically. It was an utter shame. She hoped they had not suffered terribly before their ultimate demise.

She nodded as Cedric continued, reporting that the Fort itself had withstood the sudden snowstorm that had swept the land. “The forests around the Fort probably helped a little.” Her gaze shifted to look around them as if to point out the lack a thick forest to surround the Caledonian homes. “Everything’s out in the open here. Mako and Genkei would have been snowed in in our rickety house had they not gone to shelter with the horses.”

When the subject changed to be about her new home, she was unsurprised to have Cedric immediately bombard her with questions. She sat back a bit got get comfortable, her canary eyes shifting idly between their surroundings, Kenyon, and her brother as she spoke. “They’re a much more relaxed pack, I would say. They don’t seem to put fighting and defense as their top priority as the Cavaliers do.” In fact, she had only met a handful that even took up arms. “Trade seems to be their greatest interest, though, it might only be because they’re still trying to find their footing in this new land.”

Looking directly at her brother, she continued, “If the Cavaliers broker a trade agreement with them, I’m sure the High King and Lord-Regent would be highly interested.” Looking away, she added, “Though a few of the Old Caledonians or Loners might be wary of the Cavaliers, I’m sure the fragments of Krokar and the Court might be more open to interacting with old allies.” The older ones, at least.

She waited, hoping what vague and somewhat commonplace information she managed to give him would satisfy her brother’s curiosity about the pack.

OOC -No worries, I think we've covered bits needed for co-rank stuff now <3

Through this magnifying glass, I see a thousand finger prints on the surfaces of who I am.

The loss of livestock and horses was a hard impact on Casa. They'd done all they could to keep all the creatures out of the deadly winds, but it was those with weaker bodies that perished. Tupelo and Buckeye, painful as it was to lose them both, they'd at least witnessed a long life before leaving.

Cedric glanced to the home he was clearing, he hadn't ignored how much worse the storm had hit Caledonia, and Teagan explained why with her usual wisdom. The Stryder hummed, "The storm is not something such a new pack should have to suffer through, I hope nothing is lost permanently." And Cedric would help where he could, with the strength he'd gained for the very purpose of aid. Teagan settled down to describe Caledonia to her inexperienced brother, and Cedric did his best to focus.

Her eye contact around the topic of trade wasn't missed, though it brought some uncertainty to the younger Stryder. "I want to become something... more for Casa. Perhaps not just the pack either. I took an oath and I can see the high hopes in the eyes of others for me to do well... but I struggle to find what I can do." Cedric explained. "Through the Summit, I saw a chance to become an ally to a pack, but I don't know how to even do that." The man gestured to the building he was clearing. "I can work hard, but words are still... difficult. I don't know if I can do things like you did for Salsola, that level of confidence is something I feel I lack."

"But still, I want to try all the same."

She let out a soft sigh to her brother’s wistful thinking towards New Caledonia, “Thankfully, it doesn’t seem like it would have been a huge loss if it were.” She meant it in an optimistic way, even if her words might have sounded harsh or cold. With many things still left to be permanently established, Teagan felt it would have been an easy drawback to overcome. Rebuilding was easier when one didn’t have strong attachments to a place that extended beyond one’s own generation.

Her suggestion of promoting the idea of formal actions between their packs seemed to strike something within Cedric. He opened up to her, expressing quiet insecurities and self-doubt. Cedric seemed well aware of what he wanted, though, was unable to see which path would get him from his currently location to his goal and destination. Had she not been severely pregnant, Teagan might have given him another rough training session like she had when he’d been depressed about Cidro.

However, he ended his words with a note of redemption. He wanted to keep trying, even with being unsure.

“Tch.” Good for him. “Just be you, Cedric.” She said as if the question had been, really, that simple. With a grunt, she rose to her feet, making her way over to her brother and Kenyon. “If you believe in yourself, others will have no reason to doubt your words or resolve.”

Her sharp canary eyes landed on him and a small smirk curled at the edge of her lips. “Keep your chin up, kid.” Then, she frowned and her mismatched ears flattened. “Unless you want me to come down to Casa di Cavalieri to kick some sense into your ass again.” Despite her scowling glare, there was humor in her eyes.

Thin pieces of doubt covered Cedric's view. Thin enough to see through, but enough to cloud that vision so that it wasn't always so clear. One day perhaps, with age and experience, Cedric would learn to take down that layer of insecurity and see himself as he already was. He'd already come so far, at an age so young, now it seemed the only one keeping him back was himself.

It didn't matter how far Teagan travelled, she would always be someone Cedric looked up to, and her words brought him as much confidence as anyone else's did. Her response was almost classical for Teagan, but to Cedric the words still brought some surprise to his face, along with a small smile. Perhaps she was right, and perhaps Cedric had already seen the key to growing his own resolve. By standing by his word and his belief to the point of becoming unwavering, Cedric could get others to follow him.

"You're right, as always." Cedric remarked back, chuckling lightly at Teagan's friendly threat. With a shake of his head, Cedric looked back to his work. "Whilst I'd always welcome a rematch, I think I'll be alright... As you said, I'll just be me." He added, and much to that point, Cedric turned around to continue moving the pieces of furniture, happy to have spent some time with the strongest Stryder.
