Spring was in full force and a sense of deja vu had spread over the arctic female as she sat within the protection of the bushes. Her white coat was a stark contrast against the earthen roots that rose into the air behind her and she was plainly visible to anyone that passed by and who knew where to look. However, even if they weren't looking the sheer amount of noise was enough to tell everyone where she was. All three pups were piled on top of each other in a loud, writhing heap of teeth and fur. Leela was by far the loudest and she fought with her brothers ferociously despite being the smallest of the three.

Lazy sapphire eyes twisted to watch as her progeny played at the lip of the den. They would have come out farther if not for the fact that their mother was acting as a living barrier. Ever since their eyes had opened, the three pups had been attempting to crawl towards the mouth of the den. It wasn't a new behavior as both Kohaku and Lucia had tried the exact same thing the year before. However, it seemed as if Kiara's latest pups were a little more of a handful than before. Besides Leela's exuberance, there was Altair's size. Although he couldn't be considered big by Luperci standards, he was by far the largest pup Kiara had ever had. With the added presence of Marrok, Kiara and Tharin were just about at their wits end trying to keep all the pups in check.

Sapphire eyes turned back to gaze halfheartedly off in the distance, searching without much hope for her mate. Tharin had gone off hunting with Lucia, but they wouldn't be back for at least another hour. Exhausted, Kiara let her head drop to the earth as the pups made enough noise to wake the dead. The young mother had seriously begun to consider if she should introduce the pups to the pack early. She could use the help.

For some reason, Zalen had been careful to stay away from Kiara during her pregnancy. The non-Luperci wolfess had had a litter before, and it had turned out difficult for her. He knew she knew what she was doing, so there was no point in hovering near her like he had done with first time parents Ciara and Augustus. But it was still nerve wracking for the Alpha; she had remained cautious and in her den for even longer than he had imagined, but surely the pups would be born by now. Others had told him that this was the case, and so he finally decided it was time to visit.

Tharin and Kiara’s scents were strong in the pack; they had been here for quite some time. Zalen hoped that he could catch the mother while the father was out; despite his fall from grace, Tharin was still a formidable wolf and one that had Zalen’s respect. But luckily, it seemed that he and Lucia may be out hunting, since Zalen managed to catch some fresh signs of them on the way to Kiara’s den.

It became apparent that he had been told the truth and that indeed the puppies had been born. This was based on the loud ruckus he heard as he approached, the unique sounds of puppies rough housing. And then Kiara’s stark white fur appeared like dappled pearls on the other side of a bush. Zalen crouched low, and ears laid back against his head as he approached, Kiara. He said softly.

Blue orbs gazed at nothing in particular through half closed lids as one of Kiara's snowy ears flicked back to listen to the ruckus her pups were causing. A body pressed against her back and paws dug into her fur as one of the pups pushed against its siblings. Kiara ignored the tiny body and soon the pups fell back down the gentle slop as their play fighting took them closer to the tunnel. Whimpers, whines, and high pitched barks filled the month old pups waking hours. It was only when they slept that Kiara was able to rest her poor ears.

Kiara was practically asleep when a familiar voice called to her. Immediately she bolted upright, her paws beneath her as her heckles stood on end. The pups halted in their play, quiet for once as the form of a large black wolf became apparent through the bushes. Standing, the arctic mother shook her head and emerged from the bushes. She couldn't be so protective of her pups. It was such a behavior that got her into trouble last time. Unfortunately, while Kiara's head explained one thing her instincts protested and drove the young mother to do another.

Upon exiting the bushes Kiara became witness to something she had never imagined seeing; Zalen was actually submitting to her. His giant body was low to the ground and his ears were laid back against his skull. Kiara froze, completely taken aback by the behavior. Unsure what to do, she sat down in front of Zalen and nodded. "Hi Zalen."
