[DND] New flower in the garden
Colibri. Momma!

She was finally home, finally able to relax though being around Eugene was a strange experience. She was nervous and timid around him and yet she felt safe, only a few minutes or so into their meeting and he had found a way to make her feel relaxed and safe with just a simple touch of his hand. They were so close to each other on that flat rock by the river, and for some reason she could not stop flushing beneath her black mask. What was with that, she just did not understand why her body acted that way. It was confusion to say at the least, she was going to ask her mother about it but events decided to unfold right into her lap. It was a dizzy turn of events, it moved from a happy experience with a horse still somehow following her to everything shattering like a glass.

Everything hit at once, everything change in a blink of an eye. That day the air hung like a blanket of despair, the gods were not kind to her family that day. Her mother was broken, bitten by her own daughter out of an act of rage but how could Florina even fathom that action? She could not understand or even bring herself to believe that is truly what happened, it was not possible. Then a pack meeting was called as the announcement of her aunt leaving her mate with two of his children but taking one with her. They were left with two leaders instead of one and what was worse was how Saul felt, he mate left him. She could not imagine what that felt like because she had never had a mate herself but she sympathized for him. Her family was fragile right now, and just a knock of a feather could shatter them further.

She prayed to the gods that they would be nicer, asking them what they could have done to receive such rage from them. Though they remained silent for their actions, not giving her a lick of hope that it would be better. Shaking her head she moved around the house, gathering supplies that her mother asked her to get. They were gardening again today, though what she was not sure. It was a loving experience even though she had to do everything for her now broken mother; she loved to help as much as she could. It was almost comical to remember he mother’s face the first time she gave a growl to her, it wasn’t a real growl just a whining version to show her that she felt pain when her mother would even move the broken hand and wince.

Quickly she moved from the house, shutting the door and circling around the once snow covered house she remembered when she was younger. Her eyes fixating on her mother’s form, a soft and loving smile spread across her face as she moved closer to her. A gentle whine escaped her lips as if asking for her attention, craving her every moment of life. She moved closer and whined once more, looking up at her with curiosity in her eyes.

Colibri followed her daughter outside, quietly watching as the smaller girl closed the door behind them. Fiora had returned from her solo travels unscathed, only to find that her family had splintered in her absence. At least the trip seemed to have done her some good; Fiora had become a shade more assertive, insisting on taking care of her mother day and night. It was endearing, if a bit frustrating, as Coli would rather struggle on her own than become a helpless burden. Of course she didn't have the heart to tell Fiora to leave her alone, though... and to be honest, Coli needed the company. Days had turned to weeks as she waited for Florina and Lilin to come to their senses and return home. The loss was finally sinking in, and Coli was glad that she still had her Fiora and that the outside world had not tempted her away or hurt her. She wouldn't know where to turn if she lost the remainder of her family.

She cradled her bandaged arm as she slowly walked around the hillock their home was built into. The pain in her wrist was a continuous dull throbbing, but thankfully the wound had closed and Coli no longer needed to change the bandage or apply herbal poultices to ward off infection. She would likely have another scar to add to her collection, as the fur would probably never grow back. It didn't matter as long as she would eventually regain the use of her hand. It was awkward having to ask Fiora to perform simple tasks for her, but her daughter seemed happy to be of use.

The Sannindi drew a deep breath, comforted by the fresh spring air and the scent of early flowers in bloom. She exhaled and smiled faintly as she noticed Fiora edging closer to her. Her tiny daughter was always shy and needy, and Coli loved that about her. She moved her good hand to brush a few strands of black hair from Fiora's eyes, pressing her muzzle in a kiss to her forehead. She knew she would be in a much darker place if not for Fiora. "Thank you for helping me... let's start by pulling some weeds," she murmured softly, letting her blue eyes sweep over the gentle slope. It would be a nice quiet day for them both to enjoy.

The smell of fresh turned soil, the overwhelming aroma of the blooming buds that seemed to have sprouted what seemed to be days ago. She loved all of this but what really made her happy, made her shy little tail wag in happiness was her mother’s touch. The ways she fidgeted with her black hair and help her learn how to make small little braids, the way she would just pet her softened fur. She loved it all, she could not help but lean into her when she pressed her lips to her forehead. The girl could not control the appendage behind her as it wagged softly in a full half circle, a whine of happiness escapes her own black lips.

Her mother’s words surprised her, thanking her for her help. Why should she be thanked for something she was so eager to do, so happy to be of use to her now injured mother? It was not something she needed to be thanked about, this kind of thing gave her purpose. ”I am happy to help, momma.” She gave a gentle smile, her usual stuttering voice seemed loving and almost like a chiming whisper. There was no fear or anxiety to feel when she was around her half way mirror, nothing to be nervous about so her voice seemed to always clear with her. It was almost strange to hear her own voice without the shaky undertone, that voice up uncertainty chirping in her ears. Shaking her head she looked over the slope just as her mother did and slowly dropped to her knees, she pulled on a worn pair of gloves she acquired just by just stumbling on that shed the first night out on her own. They were a dusty version of their old baby blue color and the few flower stitched into the leather like material were starting to fray but she figured it was a good idea to use while weeding.

Looking up at her mother she gave a loving smile, pushing her wild bangs from her eyes to look up with the eyes that mirrored her own. ”How will I know if it is a weed?” She almost squeaked, afraid she would pull a pretty little flower because she had found out some weeds could be fluffy and yellow. How could she know of such a thing?

Coli's gaze lingered fondly on her smallest daughter, and the captivating way the sunlight gleamed on her long dark mane. She was so much prettier than her mother, something Coli was grateful for. And those gardening gloves she found were an adorable touch, the faded blue hue reminiscent of her daughter's eyes. Coli made a mental note to ask Shiloh about clothes for her shy daughter; she thought that a pretty blue dress like the ones Shiloh or Lilin wore might make Fiora feel more confident about her looks. Perhaps they would recommend a flower behind her ear, or a piece of jewelry, something to showcase just how lovely the young wolfdog was. That was a project for a different day, though. Today was about practicality and just a little bit of dirt.

She knelt on the slope beside Fiora, immersed in the fresh scents of springtime. A bumblebee hummed its way through the air, and Coli pointed to it with her good hand before answering Fiora's question. "Just ask me if you're not sure," she explained with an gentle smile. "We just don't want the fast-growing ones to force out the slow-growing ones. Like dandelions, the ones with the toothy leaves. If we leave too many of them, our flowers won't get enough sunlight and water. And thistles could hurt little paws if they're stepped on, so that's another thing we want to remove."

Such were the basics. Once the weather turned warmer and the plants grew tall, they might trim the grass and carry wineskins of water to keep them hydrated. And if Fiora was still interested come autumn, they could harvest seeds together and she could plant her own special flowerbed next spring. It was so easy to get ahead of herself, imagining happy times to come.

She was not too sure why she felt too self-conscious about her looks, but something just made her feel shy about them. Before she put her dusted blue gloves in the dirt she absent-mindedly moved her hair from her eyes, putting some stray strand of her hair behind her shoulders. Slowly she moved her hands to the dirt, gently touching the plants that she called dandelions, those yellow looking flowers that were really weeds. Her mother pointed out a fat little bee that had only two stripes of yellow on its black fuzzy body, a bumble bee if she remembered right. A soft smile lifted the corners of her lips, nodding shyly.

Her eyes closed slightly as she took in the smells of the earth, spring time was really her favorite time now. She looked at some of the plants, seeing a few daisies. They were pretty, a few were white and a few were a pastel yellow. Her eyes opened further as she finally moved her fingers around the base of a dandelion, wiggling her gloved fingers under the soil and pulling out the roots slowly. Her ears perked up the best they could for being naturally floppy, she held up the soiled dandelion.

A smile came to her face as she held the small weed up to her mother; she was proud of herself for once and hoped her mother reflected her happiness back at her. “Why are some weeds pretty like this one, it smells funny though.” She spoke softly, smelling the rather strong smelling weed. She did not get why some of the weeds looked like flowers and less like those thistle looking things, just the thought of those made her wince. She had a faint memory of stepping on one she was very young, they may have been a pretty shade of purple but they hurt little paws like her mother said. She looked at her mother for approval, she was really hoping she did a good job.
