Raeka stood on the broken remnants of the human highway that bisected her beautiful field. All around her the tall grasses swayed in the wind and the dark storm clouds tumbled overhead. Wind tossed and teased her fur as it brought with it the earthen scent of elk. Her amber eyes watched the horizon carefully as the shrunken forms of the herd could be seen mulling about on the horizon. Despite the dark clouds, the waning light told her that the day would soon come to a close. They had about an hour left of light, maybe less and the shadows cast by the oncoming storm darkened the entire field. Her giant secui paws shifted uncomfortable on the black earth as she waited and watched.

Twilight was the time of the hunter and Raeka had ever intention of using the dim light to her advantage. Before long, Tharin and Thoirni appeared from amidst the tall grass and approached Raeka. She had sent them out earlier to scout out the herd and listened closely as they described what they saw. It was a herd of mixed genders, not unusual for the middle of rutting season, and of fairly large size. The Alphess nodded and thanked the two subordinates before tossing her head back. Her voice rang loud and long as she called for the pack. The two males quickly added their voices and the song swelled as their voices rang in perfect harmony.

Once her rallying call concluded, Raeka dropped to her haunches and waited for the rest of the pack to arrive. Most of them were puppies, not even yearlings. Plus there was Crescent to consider. She couldn't expect them to hunt, however she fully expected the pups to take notes and learn. Besides, Raeka had ever intention of hauling in several of the hulking ungulates for a feast to feed her entire back for days.

tl;dr -- she shows up quickly!! :O

Word Count → 600+

Florina was mere days from her first birthday, not that she was aware of it. She had developed a noticeably solitary routine when it came to hunting, patrolling, even sleeping off in the far corner of the den so that she didn't touch anyone else. It wasn't a sign she disliked her pack brothers and sisters, far from it -- she had simply learned from experience that her bluntness and lack of empathy often made others uncomfortable, and she could serve her pack more efficiently if no one actively disliked her. She didn't care what they thought of her so long as she could continue to contribute by protecting them and sharing her kills. The lingering fear that she could end up hurting them was a subconscious motivator as well. There were times when she yearned for company as all wolves did, and she discovered she had even formed hesitant friendships with some of the other youths from her generation, but rarely was she the one to seek them out or call for them. They could never know she needed them -- not Veyra, not Krys, and definitely not Kerrian.

As stubborn as she was about keeping her personal sentiments private, Florina had developed a peculiar and overt interest in Raeka. Now that she had fully grown into her form, Flori found herself of comparable size as the female leader, and wondered if that meant they were equal in strength as well. The Alphess's scent lay heavy along the borders that Florina traversed every day, and she always made sure to leave her own markers in the off-chance that Raeka would notice her. For once, she wanted the attention of a superior, as she had when she was a boastful little puppy wandering Jordheim. That was exactly how the summoning howl at twilight made her feel -- like a puppy, eager to go earn praise and specifically catch Raeka's eye on the field. She veered off from her own hunt immediately, abandoning the lucky groundhog in his half-excavated burrow, as she took off toward the meadow.

As her white-toed paws greedily devoured the distance, Florina attempted to sort out what irrational adolescent hormone was driving her to act this way. She had equal respect for Zalen and wanted his accolades as well, but she did not mind that he favored his sons and daughter, as it was natural for a father to do so. Perhaps that was exactly it -- Florina had no father, just her timid and cringing mother who had gained a Beta position in the pack through nepotism. Raeka was the first physically strong female authority figure in her life, and Florina desired her validation because she wanted to emulate that. If Epsilon wasn't high enough, perhaps she even wanted to be an Alphess someday. She grunted under her breath as she loped onward, sourly amused at herself.

Her silver eyes mirrored the grey storm clouds above them as she peered across the open expanse of land and spotted the silhouettes of Raeka and two others. Florina tipped her muzzle back and gave a short call to alert her Alphess to her prompt approach. Good, she was one of the first to arrive - and finally, a chance to show off the skills she had gained in her months here! When she first met Raeka, Florina had accepted meat from her because she was too inexperienced to hunt for herself. She had been tirelessly pushing herself since then, to be at the pinnacle of physical condition in case an opportunity like this arose. The wolfdog slowed to a trot as she reached the waiting trio, her tail wagging subtly in greeting as she glanced to Raeka. The Soul female stood straighter, bolder, when her silver gaze flicked to Tharin and Thoirní -- she was above them now, and they should know it.

Word Count :: 289 Krys arrives in Optime form, on all fours, a little damp.

Krys heard the Alphess' howl clearly, despite being near the lake at the time. She almost groaned, knee-deep in water in her Optime form, trying in secret to get over that crippling fear. She'd been able to wade up to her waist before the fear clenched her chest and made breathing harder. She'd been trying again, slowly making her way deeper, when Raeka's howl called her trials to an end. She turned away from the water and with long strides, made her way back to shore. With a shake and a glance at the star-speckled reflection of the water, she'd settle onto all fours and sprint off towards the Alphess' howled location.

Upon arrival, she noted the faces present. Tharin, Thoirni, Raeka (of course) and Florina. The ex-Vinattan had moved up in ranks, claiming what Krys had hoped to claim first. Epsilon. Jealousy turned her gut as she approached, though she held back the urge to show it. Florina was her friend, a sister of New Dawn. She'd been hoping for Epsilon, but nothing higher. Krys couldn't blame her for working her tail off- especially considering her condition.

So instead of biting or snapping or pushing, when she approached Florina, she offered a subtle display of submission, in that she'd offer a nudge to the pale wolf's chin. "Hey newbie. Congrats on the promotion." She'd murmur of only her to hear, smirking despite the envy she felt. Then, pale green eyes turned to Raeka. She held herself lower than the two high ranked females, but didn't dare offer Tharin or Thoirni the same respect- they were not higher rank, after all. "Raeka, ma'am. What's going on?" She finally voiced, quiet but audible.

The sky hung low and dark like the belly of a pregnant bear, and Zalen would rather have spent what was surely to be a stormy night in the den. But he felt restless, on edge, and he could not quite pinpoint why. He had spent the day patrolling and marking, noting that many scents lingered on the border beside his own. He could not even begin to express how proud he was of all the yearlings in New Dawn, many of them his own children. His pack was young, but strong, and with Sangi’lak moving close to them, they would have nothing much to fear within the coming days.

The air smelled of earth and electricity and it was warm, the dark king stood just inside the borders of his claim smelling the sky and all it scents. It was then that he heard the summoning call of his Alphess ring out, and invitation to hunt as he knew it immediately. A secret grin came to his face as he turned his lustrous black body into the wind to find her; a pack hunt was just what he needed.

Optime limbs drew him quickly over the terrain, and soon he could see and smell the already gathered. Zalen trotted up to Tharin and Thoirini, rubbing against them and giving them a growl of friendship. He then turned and did the same to Krys and Florina; they were queens in the making, he wondered if they were aware of that yet.

Speaking about Queen-dom, his was standing there in her strong Secui form, waiting for all the willing to come join her in the chase. He sat back on muscular haunches to wait as well, tail flicking behind him like that of an excited cat.

The distant call to hunt stirred the dark yearling from her rest amid the flowers of sunrise meadow. It was her favorite place within the pack's territory and she often spent her day lounging in the sun here. The brightly colored flowers were a pleasant change from the gloom of the den and the green of the world outside it. If she could, she would spend all day admiring them and rolling in them to add their scent to her own. There wasn't much else to do, anyway. She didn't really have friends. Most of her time was spent alone or with her mother. The other wolves seemed not to like her so why bother trying to make friends?

A pack hunt was something that she had to attend though. It would be noted if she were not present and she would face the wrath of the alphas. While mingling with others wasn't her first choice, she feared a scolding more. So she rolled to her feet and made her way with haste to the spot of the gathering. As she approached her eyes fell first on her sister and then the pale wolf who stood next to her. Her ears flicked back and she quickly looked away, noting how Florina held herself taller than the subords. Her rank had gone up since the last time Yuna had seen her.

Usually Yuna would have gravitated toward her sister but not wanting to interrupt the exchange between her and the new Epsilon, she instead remained on the outskirts. She watched the rest of the pack with observant eyes, catching everything that went on but not speaking to anyone. It was better to remain silent, she thought, than to make a fool of oneself.

OOC:

Kiara had been playing the diligent mom. She had fed her pups and was currently acting as the moving chew-toy for the six-month old trio. Marrok and Altair towered over her like their father and their long, lanky legs easily kept up with their mother's much shorter strides. Leela on the other hand, clearly showed her arctic ancestry and was dwarfed by her brothers. If one did not know Kiara and Tharin, they might have thought that Leela was a runt.

All three pups were harrowing their poor mother while Saki and Lucia looked on from the shadows, grateful to avoid the overexcited trio's attention. Eventually, the three pups caught hold of Kiara and she quickly found herself under a pile of fur and feet. Gently she nipped at Marrok's red toes and squirmed as she tried to get out from underneath the hot pile of bodies.

Raeka's howl put the whole game to rest and Kiara gave a quick bark to force the puppies off of her. They agreed only reluctantly and Kiara soon found herself free. With a quick shake and words to her older daughters to watch after their younger siblings, Kiara bounded off towards the fields where Raeka had summoned the pack too. By the time she arrive, already many of the pack members had gathered around Raeka and were eagerly awaiting instructions. The wind brought the scents of elk and Kiara could feel her tail swinging wildly as her heart began to race. A pack hunt!

Kiara approached the leaders first, rolling onto her belly in front of Raeka and Zalen to show complete submission as she gently licked their faces. When her greetings were done she picked a spot on the highway to park her rump while they waited for the rest of the pack to arrive.

Crescent is in Lupus form and this is his first hunt. Ever. So yeah... Let's see how this goes... [000]

Crescent had heard Raekea's call loud and clear, at the time he was trying to recall any sort of healing memories, it ended in a complete fault. At first, the howl sent a tremor through his spine, but then he began to relax, he knew what he had to do. Rising from the den surface he used his enhanced senses to rush to the pack's side, they may have doubts in him, but he was trying his best not to doubt himself! His whole life he was swimming through a pool of lies and hatred, now it was time for him to stand up and prove himself! Crescent had never ran this fast before, he felt as if he was flying, each stride felt like a mile. He wasn't quite sure how he could tell his surroundings by only listening and touching, yet it was almost like he could hear the terrain echoing off each other. He soon arrived, he could could smell it. The scent of pack members hung distinctly in the air, yet the scent of elk was very present along with many other things. Crescent could smell the herd, he could smell the weak and the elder, the young and the healthy. He could hear a limp of an elder, hanging far behind the others. It was quite faint though, the others would not be able to hear it. Now that Crescent was here, in front of several pack members, he felt shy. He didn't quite know how to start explaining his idea, he felt the others would shun him for his blindness. Since when does a blind wolf join in on a pack hunt? Taking a deep breath, Crescent opened his mouth to speak. " I... I know you probably don't want a wolf like me joining in on something important like this, but I still think I can help." He took a brief pause, worried on what they were thinking. " I may not have eyes to guide me, but that doesn't make me useless! My other senses are quite sharp you see." He tilted his ears slightly. " Right now I can hear an elder elk lagging far behind the others. You wouldn't be able to see her, she is lost and alone, far away from the herd, yet not too far as for me to not hear her. Her limp is echoing off the surface as we speak." He others probably wouldn't believe him, yet he could feel her echoes shaking through the ground. Crescent suddenly could feel fear grabbing hold, his tail tucked in and he hung slightly low, this happens a lot. He pondered on what they though of him, and equal, or useless trash. the thought of others judging him made his stoumach ache.

OOC: Seuci form.

WC: 300+

As the evening was ending and the sun began to set the young female could be found climbing trees by the den. After her encounter with Callum she had come to realize just how must easier it was to spot large prey and intruders from the tree tops and her lean athletic figure mixed with her larger height gave the Damaichu child an advantage when reaching the branches. The call rang through the pack lands and reached Veyra’s mud colored ears causing them to twitch backwards to hear the sound better. She imidiatly recognized it as the Alphess, Raeka’s tones and excitedly hurried down out of the tree to make her way over to the brown hued lady.

Crouched over on all fours she began to shift into her Halfling form, a much better body for a twilight hunt. She was still unsure in her feelings for the alphess who claimed her father as a mate but the Subord understood her position within the pack and respected the older women for accepting the children of her mate so easily. It could not be an easy task to watch the children of your mate and another grow before you and it made Veyra positive she would never take on a male who showed any interest for another.

She arrived after many, looking around with vivid green eyes to match names to faces best she could. Making her way into the group she approached her father first, the Alpha of the pack, and licked his chin lovingly, her ears folded back, “Hello Father.” She greeted with a soft tone before dipping her head to Raeka, “Evening Raeka.” Although her posture was that of submission she was not ready to greet the Alphess with physical affection. Turning to make her way back into the crowd she spotted Krys and Florina. Wagging her tail excitedly she nudged her body against the two in a silent friendly greeting, awaiting orders.

OOC: Sorry for the wait / +357

Ciara was standing on the edge of the cliffs looking out over the ocean and the beach, just outside of New Dawn’s territory. At day’s end, when her pups were entertained, fed, and taken care of, she would often leave them in the capable hands of Kiara so she might get a moment or two for herself – at least, that’s what she told her snow white pack sister. The true reason she came to the cliffs was far darker than that. The whispers in her mind grew louder towards the twilight, and her paws just brought her to those cliffs. Again and again she considered throwing herself off them, but the lingering scent of her pups kept her from doing so.

Tawny ears swivelled at the sound of the Alphess’ call and with a soft grunt the golden Epsilon pulled herself away from the cliffside. She moved quickly, her long and almost frighteningly lanky form offering her speed she never used to have. In a few minutes she’d joined the other pack mates assembled, holding herself tall despite her problems, keeping her posture as befitting her rank as Epsilon. Even though she’d fallen from her spot of glory as beta, she still had this, her old rank. She was a hunter, and lately had been trying to use all the pain she was feeling as fuel to hunt, gather, slay so that her brothers and sisters, and offspring, could eat.

I’m here, she said gruffly, sounding eerily like the mate she’d lost. In his absence, Ciara seemed to have lost that softness and light that had her contrasting so sharply with Augustus. Now, she seemed as though she was a blend of the two of them, harder, colder, not close to being herself. While others filtered in and sat down, Ciara remained standing, ears erect, nose to the wind to pick up the scent of the herd. Grizzer and Conan arrived, keen on learning from this exercise, though Grizzer, admittedly, looked a little lazy. Each boy got a bump on the head, an attempt at affection, from their mother. Athena, so far, was nowhere to be seen.

Kerrian Demos
this sucks ass.. sorry.[422+]
His thoughts were all that consumed the male that was now much stronger than just months before, his temper was the only thing that seemed to be left from his mother’s disgraceful demise. A gentle growl seemed to be a permanent fixture in his train of thought as he pondered what his mind was trying to so desperately find answer to. Shaking his head the dark prince finally let his toes finally stop their aimless movement, his rump falling hard on the solid ground. The seasons were in a state of change, the desperate break from the heat was welcomed by the shaggy wolf. His night colored nose rose to the heavens as he took in the damp and electric air, a storm was going to shake the ground.

Quickly his ears flicked to the sound that was behind him, a howl that only belonged to the woman that took his mother’s place beside the New Dawn king. He would never truly like the chocolate female that the pack called their Alphess but there was nothing he could do; challenging her would humiliate his father and himself. Shaking his head he picked his tail off the dirt, the growl in his throat becoming more hostile as he let it die out with the quickening of his limbs. As he moved he let his body mold into a new shape, shifting quickly as he fell into a full run. His growing paws ate at the ground in a hungry pace, though his movements ceased almost as quickly as they started.

His lumbering form came upon the group of canines, noting every member with a gentle tail wag that was the presence of his old self. He noted of the presence of both the leaders, the dark knight head butted his father’s shoulder as he lowered his head for the brown female. A chuckle formed in his throat as he had the urge to bite at the slightly smaller form of the pale wolf dog’s ears, he needed to not start a fight when a hunt was about to commence. His laughter fell into a playful growl as he remembered their time spent away from the pack, he too head butted her shoulder playfully but he soon turned to face the woman that called them all here. Even though his feeling toward her were still in a land of hostility he would not show it here, she was still his superior, still his Alphess. He would still listen to her.

One by one the pack arrived at her behest. Florina and Krys were the first to arrive and the younger female was quick to ask questions. Raeka greeted them with a simple nod of her head before answering Krys. A hunt. And if the moon shines bright, we will be feasting by the end. As if to reject her turn of phrase, the sky rumbled and reminded her the approach of a storm. She only hoped the rain would hold long enough for them to finish their hunt and enjoy some fresh meat.

When Zalen arrived, Raeka bounded happily towards Zalen. Despite her attempts at a calm appearance, everything seemed to flutter away when Zalen approached. Raeka's belly was beginning to show signs of her pregnancy and with the approach of her king she couldn't help but loose a bit of control. The Alphess's chocolate body went to rub against Zalen and her tail wagged jovially as she greeted him. So good of you to make it. Her tone was teasing and lighthearted and for a brief moment she forgot herself.

Raeka stepped away from Zalen, shaking herself in an attempt to focus her mind on the task at hand again. It was good to be happy, but she wanted a clear head. It didn't take long for the rest of the pack to join the hunting group and Raeka stood tall as she examined the faces of those who answered her call. It was Crescent who caught her attention though. The blind wolf's voice was hesitant and shy, but his earnest desire to contribute had her smiling. Raeka approached the new male and said, Thank you Crescent. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for her. Keep back for now so your not in harm's way. Once we bring down an elk, you can join us in the feasting.

Alright everyone, let's head out. I want each of the pups to stick close to an adult for safety. We'll fan out into pairs and try to find this cow that Crescent hears. Once located, we'll swarm her from all sides. With her chocolate tail erect, Raeka turned and began to trot at a steady speed towards the herd. Already her heart was beginning to pound and she could feel her excitement grow.

Lightning peeling across the sky, illuminating the world as the clouds shifted and turned with an increasing ferocity. The dry grass swayed like a turbulent sea as the wind swelled. Thunder boomed and Raeka turned an eye to the sky as she watched the clouds. Part of her considered calling the hunt off, but everyone had already gathered. In an instant time seemed to slow as she watched a writing snake of light peel away from the sky and descent onto the field. The blast was so close and intense that her hair stood on end and she practically jumped out of her skin.

Raeka froze as her heart thundered in her chest and the boom erupted from the lightning almost instantaneously. It was so loud her ears rang painfully and she could feel a sudden surge of adrenaline rush through her system. Smoke began to rise from the blackened patch of grass and the first spurts of flame danced to life. It took only seconds for them to start engulfing the nearby grass and it would take only a few minutes for the patch to become a blaze. Raeka wasted no time. She turned to the others and shouted, Fire!

ooc: Lupus form. Set with the pack hunt. Super sorry for lateness. >.< [547]

Late, late, late! Golden paws hurriedly ate up the ground as the pup raced to attend the meeting called to order by the New Dawn Alphess, a mixture of worry and fear driving her into a fast, reckless pace. Trees quickly passed by her on all sides, the forest swallowing her up as she wound her way around the den site and toward the highway that intersected the territory, the location she was sure to find the pack waiting. By bad luck alone, she had been much further away than she otherwise might have been had she stayed close to the den like she was supposed to, and now her poor choice was likely going to come back and bite her in the tail.

Still just a child, not even old enough to hold a solid rank on her own, Athena felt a lot riding on this, on her timely arrival at the meeting and all those that would follow. Her ambitions were high, her goals attainable only through practice and dedication, and if she showed even a slight inability to do the simplest things - showing up when the pack was called for example - she was likely not only to lose the reliable presence she wished to exude among her pack mates but lose her reliability in herself.

Relief flooded through her when she finally spotted the gathered assembly there upon the highway, still mingling and excitedly preparing themselves for their late afternoon hunt. The young golden wolf slowed to a trot as she quietly padded toward her family, catching only the last of what Raeka had to say to them as she moved to brush her shoulder against each of her brothers with a quick tail wag and then lower her head and ears apologetically as she made a quiet bump with her head against her mother's shoulder. She only hoped the wolf would not be too disappointed with her tardiness.

No sooner had she arrived, than the group was setting out, each of them falling into line after their Alphess and leader. A hunt. Any other day the prospect might have excited her, but her slowness on arrival left her feeling ill informed and under-prepared. A few whispered questions of her brothers' remedied it, though not before she was reminded she should have arrived on time. Scowling over the reprimand, annoyed she could not simply bat her brother over the head because of the circumstances that they followed closely to their mother, she merely sighed and attempted to glance ahead.

The occasional rumble of thunder had been tolerable up until this point, causing more excitement than it did fear, but the lightning that followed was entirely different. She gave a start as the streak of light and energy coursed from the dark clouds overhead and struck the ground what felt like mere feet away. It was far too close for comfort, but that was not the worst of it by far. Raeka's call brought with it a new fear, sensing in the voice a panic and warning to those who followed her. Fire? Her suddenly nervous green eyes flickered between her siblings and back toward her mother, ears splaying somewhat as she sought guidance on what the next course of action should be.

The dark king watched with silent pride as the pack gathered and greeted his son and Kiara as they greeted him. He also noted the way Kerrian reacted to Florina; was there a romance blossoming there? They were still young, but Zalen was hopeful for his pack growing once the time was right.

When Ciara arrived, however, the ebony leader’s heart sank. He lowered his head to her slightly, a strange reaction, and his tail thumped against the ground but he said nothing. She had changed; her soft nature had been replaced by a coarse one; only time would tell if the change would be permanent.

Once enough had gathered, Raeka moved them out. Zalen was immediately at Crescents side; he would hang back with the disabled member until such a time he was needed; with all the youth in New Dawn they could surely take down a full grown moose easily. Crescent thought was unsure, and Zalen’s heart went out to him; he would guide him.

They began to track the herd, but it was not long until nature made its presence known. Thunder and lightning fought violently above them, but rain refused to fall. Suddenly, and frighteningly, a bolt of lightning hit nearby, or maybe even multiple hits. It was hard to tell as the whole world went white and hot. Zalen yelped, and he heard his mate cry out. Suddenly there was the smell of smoke and electricity.

Spooked, Thoirini had run off from the rest of the group, Tharin shot Zalen a look before running after him. Zalen hesitated and did not follow; Everyone! Stay together! He cried, but it was then that he noticed the blaze starting up beside them all; the trees, dry from the summer, already were aflame; they had to get out of here and fast.

((415)) Krys goes into autopilot!

As the pack filed in, Krys greeted her friends with nudges and licks, glad to see them all together. Zalen's greeting was welcomed and she moved to lick his face as he brushed past. She took notice of her sister as she arrived and moved away from the others to see to it she was welcomed as she should be, with a lick to the face and happy whines. "I almost thought you wouldn't show." She teased, though it wasn't entirely in jest. Krys had lately begun to worry for Yuna, who spent far too much time on her own, rather than with the pack. This would be good for her, she reckoned. Then, it was on to business.

Raeka explained the plan to follow and Krys listened intently. As she moved to lead the way, Krys gave her sister one last nudge with her nose and made to follow. As the sky above rumbled with storm weather, she paid it no mind. Storms had never bothered her. In fact, they excited her, made her heart pound faster, had her fur on end and her senses at their best.

That was how she normally felt about storm weather. Tonight, however, was a totally different occasion. When the lightning crashed down only feet away from the pack, she yowled and leapt away, all four limbs splayed as she came down onto the ground with teeth bared and hackles raised. The flash blinded her only for a moment and as the world came back into focus, she found herself staring into flames and splintered wood, where a pine had once stood.

She barely noticed Tharin and Thoirini disappearing into the woods in panic, nor did she at first hear Raeka and Zalen shouting orders and warnings. Her ears were ringing, but her mind was already racing with solutions to the new problem at hand. Fire. She knew the answer from her mother's teachings as a pup. Water. The river. She whirled around to face her alphas and shouted above the chaos. "Zalen! Raeka! The river!"

Her fear of water wasn't in mind at that point. Her natural fear of burning alive was, and she wanted to keep herself and her family safe from the hazard nature had provided. She understood that ranks would still hold true but in a situation like this, she didn't bother with the finer details of it all. She'd worry about her behavior later.

OOC: Nat requested that I PP Zalen moving towards the river.

WC: 300+

Looking around her Veyra realized just how many in the pack were her age, and how few older adults there were. Her brows frowned remembering all those times she had visited as a pup and chewed on a fresh leg of a buck or doe. With so few adults at the time it must have been very difficult times for New Dawn but her puppy mind had not noticed it. With this knew discovery the muddy colored lady was more determined and enthusiastic about helping out her father and the other older members with the hunt. After all, this was one of the first hunts that all the yearlings would be participating in as full-fledged members.

Following the group the young girl decided it would be best to stay among her yearling peers instead of clinging to her father’s side. This was her chance to show her independence and usefulness to the alpha and she wouldn’t mess it up by letting him coddle her. One paw after the other padded the dry grass lightly as she moved along with the group her nose sniffing and her ears pointed and alert. The booming of thunder approaching caused her ears to flicker back every now and then, the noise harsh on her ears, but her steady feet pulled her forward with the pack.

Then it all happened. A flash of bright, harsh light flickered before the group and she yelped as a violent sizzling crack echoed around her. Her vivid green eyes closed shut as she tried to gather senses. She was aware enough to hear Reaka’s loud warning and force her eyes open. Ears still ringing from the blast she stared in horror as flames began to circle, the crisp ground acting as easy kindle for the fire. Anxious noses formed in her chest as she searched for an answer as to what to do. She locked on to Krys’ call to the river and her father’s form moving towards the water and collecting herself the best she could she forced her shocked body into movement, galloping behind her father in the direction of safety.

Yuna is frozen in place. Someone will have to snap her out of it!

Try as she may to isolate herself from the rest, she was never alone for long. Her ever faithful sister was there in a moment to fight back the feelings of loneliness and unacceptance. As long as Krys was around, she would keep trying. Even when the weight of everything was threatening to drown her.

The butting of heads was more enthusiastic on her sister's part, even knocking the more fragile wolf back a bit, but Yuna did not mind. The words that spilled from the silver wolf were not meant to be harmful but the darker girl looked up with sadness in her eyes. "I..I did." She mumbled and then looked away, toward Raeka, as the dirt hued Alphess spoke.

They set off, Yuna following just a step behind her more confident sister. A storm rolled in fast and with each rumble across the dark sky, Yuna pulled back her ears and dropped a little lower to the ground. The complete opposite of her optimistic sister.

The dark girl looked away, watching the rest of the pack as they started toward the hunt, and when she looked back the world was on fire. She froze. The shouts and panic of the others were but background noise to the terror that flooded her system. There was nothing but the flame growing higher and higher and the fear that kept her rooted to the spot.

OOC:

Everyone, save for the youngest wolves and their babysitters had arrived to take part in the hunt. Kiara sat patiently on the hard concrete as her tail thumped excitedly against the broken road. It wasn't long before Tharin was by her side, gently nuzzling against her. She returned his affection, offering up a few playful nips at his ears. The mini game lasted only a moment and was soon cut off by Raeka's announcement. Nodding, Kiara stood and broke away from her mate as she followed after their leader.

The turbulent skies would not be forgotten though, and a blot of lightning crashed into the earth with a blaze of light and sound. Kiara yelped and jumped away from the blast as her fur stood on end and her ears rang painfully. White dots floated in and out of her blurred vision. She shook her head and staggered from the effort as the world reeled for a few sickly moments. The scent of smoke and burning grass quickly filled her nostrils and added more confusion and chaos to the scene.

When Kiara's ears stopped ringing enough for her to make sense of what everyone was saying and her vision finally cleared, the fire had already begun to spread. Red tendrils licked hungrily at the dry grass and swam up the bark of the trees before they began to engulf the canopy. Instinctual panic threatened to overtake her and the whites of her emerald eyes became visible. Someone shouted for them to head towards the river, but in the confusion it was hard to make out who.

Kiara turned as the pack moved to follow Zalen, yet her gaze alighted on Yuna who stood like a statue. The young female's forest eyes were locked on the growing blaze and the scent of fear was almost as strong as the smoke. Her nature overtook her instinct and Kiara made for Yuna. She stood directly in front of the younger female, blocking the fire with her own body and locked eye with the pup. "The river Yuna." The arctic mother tried to use her own body to herd the pup towards safety. She attempted to push against the pup with her head, to try and get the female to move. "Quickly now."

Better late than never! Keylo heard the call but had been far off, tromping along the borders and letting little drizzles of whizz cover up the recently laid scent of some female… Flower or something or other. Okay, no, really he knew Florina’s name, but he pretended he didn’t when he wanted to think badly of her because she always managed to put her scent where he wanted his. Little did he realize it was actually he who had the desire to cover hers, but whatever.

By the time the Optime traversed almost each bit of terrain in the book – rocks, hillsides, forest, wetlands – and found the pack, they had moved from their gathering place and were more of a far off blob in the distance, many wolves moving as one streamlined unit. When he passed the old road he caught traces of scents and his subconscious made quick work of filing away those who had arrived. The youngster’s endurance was great, and he dashed past the road and was coming up behind his pack quickly…

And then a flash of light peeled through the valley and nearly blinded him, and a sharp pain stabbed his forehead as he blinked rapidly. He stumbled but didn’t fall, and when the spots left his eyes he saw his pack in a flurry of excitement. They churned and milled, and excited voices filled the atmosphere. A moment later, when his vision was truly clear, he saw the real danger. The lightning had touched ground and ignited the dry grasses of the plain.

“No!” He breathed and pressed forward with greater vigor. While his pack reeled in the first few seconds of shock, pulling away from the fire, Keylo urged himself forward even faster. A moment and he was just behind his pack, and then he found himself bounding a wide arch around them. Voices rang in intermingled terror, authority, and warning. ‘Stay together,’ that was his father. ‘Fire,’ Raeka. ‘The river!’ Krys. Krys… Krys is here.

The fire crackled and surged, growing in intensity by the second. As the pack struggled for order the flames were already creeping quickly towards them. By now they knew they needed to get to the river, but would everyone get moving fast enough?

Keylo didn’t turn with the pack, and didn’t say anything to add to the chaos. Instead, he charged around them and into the flames. Did he have a plan? Hell no he didn’t have a plan, the pup wasn’t even a year old yet. But charge the fire he did, and when he got there he began slapping his huge hands down over the catching grasses. To his surprise his palms warmed but didn’t catch, and the boy was effectively smothering the fire. It worked to stave off some of the initial blaze, and he did his best to move up and down the fire line and frantically pulverize the flame.

Yet he could not keep it up fast enough, and soon the fire began to carve a U around him. Hopefully his efforts had helped his pack gain a little time. When he turned, he thought he saw some semblance of panicked order. He advanced behind them, pacing back and forth like a sheep dog and his flock, keeping himself between the flames and his pack and watching for any stragglers, any frozen in fear, though Kiara was already tending to the one who was paralyzed in her fright.

tl;dr florina inhales too much smoke. :I

Word Count → +659

Florina earned a nod from Raeka, and a small smile played on her lips as she stood at attention. Other wolves came filing in before long, some of whom held more interest to Florina than others. Krys was quick at her heels, and when the silver female greeted her with a modest nudge, Florina reciprocated with a friendly nuzzle and a grin. Of course she was proud that she had attained rank faster than her friend, even if she had been presumptuous enough to expect it. Stubborn Krys would catch up soon. Her idly waving tail sped to a thrilled wagging upon Zalen's arrival, and when the dark Alpha hailed each of those gathered with a personal greeting, she bridled with pleasure. She settled onto her hindquarters in feigned patience as she waited for her other packmates, though she was tensely coiled and eager for action.

Silver eyes darted to scrutinize each shape that emerged from the shadowy field. The wolfdog largely ignored the quiet introductions and questions, but one wolf she didn't recognize had a more talkative, albeit placating, nature. The pallid male's posture was low and wilting, and Florina resisted the instinctive urge to cut him off and order him back to the den. Of course a wolf without vision would be useless on a hunt -- even a liability to the rest of them. Her hard stare shifted to disinterest when Raeka praised the invalid, and she gave a surly glare at the grass between her paws. As long as he kept out of the way.

Veyra and Kerrian were among the last to arrive, and Florina brightened at the sight of them. She affectionately nudged them each with her wet nose, pleased that the brother and sister pair were at her side. Naturally, she bumped Kerrian a little harder, silently blaming him for showing up late and making her wait. With that arrival, their hunting party was complete, and in a flash Florina sprang to her paws and trotted in Raeka's wake. Excitement flushed through her, restless energy vibrating from within her core. The hunt called to her on an instinctive and spiritual level -- her fur was standing on end from the wild power in the air, old world power that she swore she could feel. Something beautiful and dreadful and awe-inspiring was imminent.

She could never have predicted what happened next. Lightning arched from the sky with blinding intensity and struck the ground with a deafening thunderclap. Florina reeled, teeth bared as an exclamation tore from her throat. Heilir Æsir og öll ginnheilög goð! Her ears were ringing, and she staggered a pace, blinking her watering eyes to try and clear the shock white afterimage. There was shouting and fear around her, and the scent of smouldering grass stung her nostrils. She had been so close to the strike, she couldn't tell if it had gone right through her. Shivers of excitement ran down her spine as billowing smoke blackened the air, choking her lungs.

The reality that filtered back through her senses was still surreal. The hunt was forgotten, the distant herd scattered to the wind. Fire illuminated the shadows, blazing hot orange and yellow in a hypnotic dance. Dazedly Florina realized she was still rooted in place, and the fire was drawing ever-nearer. A dark shape interrupted the wildfire's spell over her, and she stared stupidly as he slapped at the fire and literally beat it back. Keylo. He was actually trying to fight it, while the rest of the pack fled en masse. Where had he even come from? Her lips peeled back from her teeth and she began to laugh hoarsely at the ridiculous sight. Let it burn, she barked at the stubborn male. A sight like this was too beautiful to extinguish.

It wasn't until Keylo retreated to the rear guard that Florina was galvanized to move. She flanked him, dizzily coughing and laughing all the while.

It became apparent now that his pack was nothing but a huge litter of pups with few parents. However, thankfully, many of the youngsters knew what to do; perhaps it was instinct. Krys immediately thought of the river, which flowed to the west of them. The wind was also blowing west, which meant that the fire would be coming at them and heading towards the river, where hopefully it would die.

Zalen did not hesitate and began loping towards the body of water that would save them. He reached over and grabbed Crescent by the scruff of the neck briefly, making it clear that there should be earnest in the blind wolf’s paws as they moved together.

The dark leader made sure the rest were following, though he took note of Yuna’s frozen fear that Kiara was trying to snap her out of. It was when turned around briefly to see this that he also saw his fool of the son dancing along the flames. It took him a moment to realize what he was doing; trying to stop the flames, but it was a useless endeavor; Florina was by his side as he abandoned the fire.

Zalen’s eyes were drawn upwards to the peak of a blazing fir tree. He himself became mesmerized for moment, until a sickening crack was heard as the tree broke and fell towards them.

The Alpha was in the water, it was not deep, but it was wide; perhaps the flames would not be able to reach across. He found his place next to Crescent again as they waded across; he took one more glance back; the whole field seemed to be aflame; and Tharin and Thoirini were still in there.

((405)) Aquaphobia. Panic.

Krys whirled when she saw Yuna frozen there. She'd started to run but Kiara's voice held her back. Keylo rushed past and began a fruitless effort of putting out the flames and Krys waited only a moment to see if Kiara's attempts would work with Yuna. Either way, she had her piece to add. "Yuna Gremory, Mom needs us! Come on!" She all but roared, rearing up, both in fear that she'd lose her only sister, and in angry excitement at the situation. She'd wait for Yuna to move, then turn to flank her, checking over at Keylo in the chaos of it.

Skipping over ember patches and running low in an attempt to find good air, Krys charged full-tilt towards the river. However, as the water came into view, she realized in horror that this was not the narrow shallows she'd managed to cross thus far. This was an area she'd avoided. Deep in the middle. She skidded to a halt at the bank and emitted a sharp, anxious whine.

She paced in the spot, looking for shallows desperately. Green eyes shot between the deep and to Zalen across the water, working hard to find a solution or an alternative. She couldn't run upriver to the shallow- not enough time. Fire closed in to her right and she jumped away. For a moment, she was lost, tail tucked and crouching like a pup again, that iced over look in her eyes.

Suddenly, despite the fire blazing all around her, she felt herself grow cold. Shivering, she fought with herself to both keep control of her fear and to suppress it- just long enough to get across. She moved to try again, got two paws into the water and immediately scurried out again, uttering that cry as she did. "I can't..." She breathed, feeling herself losing focus.

All around the fire blazed hot and loud, snapping wood and screaming voices all around. The water was louder to her, though, rushing in her ears as if she were submerged already. She felt ice in her veins, despite her singed coat. Once again, as desperate as she'd been to be brave, to be useful, she felt completely and totally helpless. Instead of crossing, she allowed the spreading flames to push her further along the riverbank, backing away and keening sharply as she moved further away from her family.

He heard sharp laughter above the crackle of flames and when he whipped his head he saw Florina’s creamy form standing near him scoffing at his attempts to help his pack. His eyes narrowed and hackles bristled, and he snapped back “At least I’m trying to do something!” It wasn’t until she took his side at the rear that he thought he saw a sick look in her eyes. Lowering his head, he bumped shoulders with her and nudged under her chin. Was she alright? A healer would know that her awkward chuckling was due to too much smoke inhalation, but all Keylo knew was that she was acting weird. He lapped at her muzzle, and just then through clouds of smoke caught sight of the silvery form standing paralyzed at the banks of the river.

Looking back and forth from Florina to Krys, he had to make a choice. Florina was strong, and even though she was acting funny at least she was still moving. Krys, on the other paw, was frozen in her tracks… no, now she was backing away… Not that way Krys, not towards the fire!

“Kiara! Florina might need help!” He barked over the raging flames as he leaped away from Florina’s side. Once Yuna was taken care of, Kiara could ensure Florina didn’t collapse before she made it to the river.

He bounded with wide strides and covered the distance between himself and Krys in the blink of an eye. As he reached her, the last few steps he took were on two legs. Flames lapped right behind her crouching rump, there was no time to talk sense into her; they would consume her before she could overcome her fear.

“Forgive me,” he whispered into her ear as he swooped over her, wrapping his arms around her and hoisting her into the air. He flipped her over belly-up so she didn’t have to look at the water unless she tried. His arms closed around her tightly as he waded into the water; she might struggle and he couldn’t risk her slipping from his grasp in the middle of the river.

When he reached the deepest point he felt the water touch his elbows, and undoubtedly she could feel it on her back, too. “We’re almost there, this is the deepest part,” he tried to reassure her. “I’m not going to let you go.” Just moments later for Keylo, but probably an eternity for Krys, he felt the waters receding as he waded up the opposite side of the river bank. Once out of the river he dropped to his knees and gently placed Krys safely on dry ground.

Lucia Amarok
Brilliant Star

A day that started out with such grandness, such playfulness and affection changed into one of excitement and adventure and taking her place as the Amarok princess she ran with Kiara her mother and was proud to lope besides the white female. Once upon a time in her younger months she had thought her mother stuffy, boring and rather vague but now she was older, and wiser and she knew from the respect afforded to her by everyone that her moma was a very much beloved member of the pack and that respect and love had been hard earned and well defended. The grass beneath her paws and the wind through her fur and the taste of prey all served to lighten her being until it felt as though she did not run but fly through the shrubbery. Younger siblings to care for and to direct, to keep safe, this was her reason and her passion, this was her life.

Once a shy creature, fearful of much she had shed the old of herself and was growing bolder and braver as the sleekness of her fur became that of an adult female, her lines and contours smoothing from puppy to graceful. She was a slim and feminine example of her species and her gender. Not as dainty and delicate as her mother but fair enough that she was eye-catching. Pale coat splashed with bold and striking designs set her apart and she was alone in her coloring even of her mother.

The pack together was enough cause to celebrate, for it was meaning that everything was right and good with the world despite the losses of late. The hunt was started and she ran with her brothers and sisters, glad for the opportunity and moved by their strength. They were young but they stood firm and hard against the land. Then everything was changed in a second and dissolved into madness and fear. A bright light and the boom that caused her ears such pain. Around her the land was set ablaze. Her heart was caught in her throat and refused to budge even as smoke began to crawl towards and suffocate the confused mass. Eyes darted to and fro seeking a way to escape and the call for the river was heard.

Her family! Where was her family! The brilliant white of her mother drew her forwards and she lunged forth with the smaller forms of her siblings her aim, and like a torpedo of white, brown and grey she was chasing them as though they were her prey. Her mother was busy as was her duty, but these four children were hers to defend. She harried them from behind, nipping with sharp teeth to their rumps if they began to falter and pushed them onwards. And then even into the river, ignoring that they might be big enough to cross on their own she carried each one by the scruff, the muscles in her jaws aching with the effort to carry the three puppies to safety. Saki was shunted across bodily. She turned with her heart pounding and smoke heavy in her lungs, the fierce heat that seared the grass and the brilliant orange flames that burned in her eyes. Where was her mother? Without much though for her own saftey she splashed back across the river before facing her siblings again, and barking with as much authority she could muster with the fear clenching at her throat

You will STAY here!

The world burned about them but still her mother's coat was a beacon of light in the darkness, and she made out the girl who was so much younger than she who was still frozen with her fear and her paws took her across crisping grass that made her pads ache with their heat. Her mind was numb but clear and she came in on Yuna's other side and too began to push and shove with her head and body, to break free the prisoner entombed in the trap of terror,

Come on Yuna! Move now, come on! The fire roared in her ears more and more and her throat was dry and she panted. For a second she caught her mother's eyes over Yuna's head and she let her own fear show, would they make it out of this alive.

ooc: Lupus form. Set with the pack hunt. [365]

Athena could not recall anything so frightening in her life as the sense of panic that stole through her as she saw the grasses begin to glow red with the fire spreading amongst them, the smell of the smoke beginning to lift into the air around them to sting her eyes and the heat warming her side facing the growing blaze. They were helpless against it, surrounded by too much fodder for it to merely burn itself out quickly, and it stirred in her the primal instinct to retreat, to seek shelter and safety away from the dangers that glowed vibrantly before them all.

But others were shouting for order above the growing roar of the flames as they leaped into the dry trees, igniting easily there and gaining new heights. The heat that it radiated caused her skin to prickle beneath her golden coat as she tried in vain to keep up with what the others were doing, spotting some already racing away while the majority grouped close. Athena stayed with the latter and followed closely in the wake of her leaders, far too terrified to think of rushing off on her own and clinging to the hope that the adults, those who she looked up to for protection and guidance, would know what to do.

She kept her mother in her sights as they raced toward the west, only realizing when they neared that they meant to shelter by the river. She splashed quickly into the waters, following the older wolves to the opposite bank, and turned quickly around to stare at the blaze that continued to spread with surprising speed toward them, as if determined to follow their retreat. Ears were pinned to her skull as her green eyes flickered from the flames to the faces of her family and pack, heart racing as she tried to comprehend what was to happen. Would they be safe? Would the waters hold the fire at bay? Would those still upon the other bank, hurrying to keep up, make it in time? Athena whined, willing those on the opposite bank to hurry. They were so close! They had to make it. Before the flames did.

OOC: Hope the PP on Yuna is alright, if not let me know. / +534

Where everyone else had panicked, Ciara had remained calm and stoic as the smoke billowed out from the trees and the scent of flames came at them. Her chocolate brown eyes glanced first to Athena, nudging the girl with her nose to let her know what direction to go in – the river. She knew the water would keep them at least a little safe from the flames which were moving so quickly, it’d be a miracle if they could truly outrun them. Soon, the other adults were ushering members towards the river and, once Ciara knew Athena was with them, she turned back to the wall of flames.

Quick, alert eyes glanced to the left and right to make sure none of the pack members were too far back in the line of danger. She saw Krys moving further and further away from the safety of the larger group and growled to herself, about to step in when Keylo leapt by in Optime form. The heat blazed and she could feel it on her chest, pushing her paws back while she watched the young boy save the girl. Kiara was taking care of Florina, and Ciara was confident the wolf would be able to handle the task. All seemed to be in the process of becoming safe – except Yuna.

Ciara growled, cursing the fire and the girl as her paws pounded across the earth. She joined Lucia, but wasted no time with insistent pushing. “GO” she yelled at the Amarok pup, the residual authority of the beta still in her voice despite being a mere Epsilon again. Her chocolate eyes then focused on Yuna, confident that Lucia would listen. As the larger wolf of the trio, Ciara wasted no time in reaching down and clamping her jaws roughly over Yuna’s scruff. She gave the young, dainty wolf a shake and then began to drag her roughly towards the river, shuffling back on all four paws and moving surprisingly fast.

When it became obvious she wasn’t moving fast enough, the female quickly shiftled into her larger quadrapedal form, secui. In this she was much more powerful and could easily haul Yuna across the dirt so she didn’t roast alive before the eyes of her pack. She knew her own daughter was back there, but knew also that Athena would keep her brothers, who had moved with her across the river, safe from harm. As the flames grew, they got closer and closer to the two females, causing Ciara’s eyes to shine and water as the smoke made her vision blurry.

Even if she didn’t make it, she would save this pack sister – she had to.

Sorry to make this hard on you guys, I didn't want to make him a burden, but this is probably how he react in a situation like this! [000]

Everything was going too fast. At first, Crescent felt relief, respect. When Raekea had spoken, he felt purposeful and helpful. It was only when the words "fire" struck him did he go into shock and trauma. The world became a blur as his alpha, Zalen had clasped his scruff and led him to the water, the smoke was slowly finding it's way into his lungs. Crescent's breathing was becoming shorter as the seconds passed, his consciousness fading, if only he was awake enough to thank Zalen for saving him. But now, in the water, the panic was blocking the outside world, only fear could creep in his mind. Crescent could hardly breath. Fire, it was something he had heard of, yet never encountered. All he knew of it was the pain and destruction it could cause, Crescent could not stand the thought of it taking hold of his pack. With his sane mind, he wanted to help, but he just couldn't, the fear was to much. Crescent could at least walk before, but now, in this panic, he was paralyzed beyond comprehension. He couldn't talk, it was too much, he didn't want anyone to be hurt, he didn't want the ones he cared about to be lost again! But no matter how hard he tried, he still passed out. Like falling through knives, Crescent felt rather pained as he fell, not so much physically, more so emotionally. He didn't quite get to talk much before he blacked out, be he did manage a faint "Uh....". The world turned black, his mind and face turned blank. Everything was swallowed by fear. This was such a cruel thing for him, to finally feel respected, then black out, forcing someone to aid him, like a little child. Why did he faint? Not the normal kind of fear you receive from danger, but more so the fear of losing those you care for. New Dawn was so kind to him, he couldn't bear the thought of ANY of them being hurt. The thought of one dying, well, at least he wouldn't have to think of it, right now, he couldn't think of anything.

LATE LATE..pp approved my Miyu!.[1+]

A chuckle escaped his lips as the pale wolfdog hit his shoulder harder than his sister, when would their dominance match ever come to an end. To be honest he never wanted to end, it made their friendship different than any others he had. It made her a challenge, someone to dominate that would never back down to him. Jus that though caused him to chuckle to himself as he looked to the dirt colored woman that took his father’s heart. The newest member spoke up, his advice was sound thanks to his blind disability he was able to smell the prey they needed before her scent could reach his twitching nose.

But then something happened, the sound was riveting. The light was blinding, as if someone was to throw a stun grenade into a group of enemies. They were blind for a moment and his ears began to ring, soon his eyes began to work though it was as if he was in slow motion at first. Yelps rang out and two of their members fled without instruction, his eyes blinked rapidly as he flicked his ears back to try and stop the ringing. Soon everything came apparent like he just opened his eyes to a battle zone; everyone first seemed to move in a fashion of disorganization until the older members found some higharcy in the situation. The silver sister spoke up a good idea as the lightning seemed to spark a wildfire, get to the closest source of water. That was a perfect idea and yet his brother did the opposite, touching the flames with his paws. The dark prince growled at the licking flames but all that did was caused the smoke to quickly fill his ever expanding lungs, soon he was coughing and yet somehow laughing at the situation.

His brain was oxygen deprived and he was not thinking straight, instead of leaping away from the flames he stay back like the lighter wolfdog had. Her laughter finally caused his ears to raise, no longer save against his skull as he first leaned against her as if to nudge her or something. His nose touched at her hip, he wanted her to move away from the heat and yet he could not help but laugh. “Come-on slow poke, you want to be without your fur?” He mocked her in a strange sense as if this was all a game, his brain was not thinking straight.

It was not long that she finally stop backtalking and her usual threats ceased, they did need to get moving. The flames licked at his tail, they wanted to consume him but that was not going to happen. Again he pushed on the woman but this time she did not fuss, instead the two oxygen depraved youths were moving side by side. They were the last to tail up the group; the cool water would be heavenly against his surely shorter hair that covered his backside.

Soon he and the blind wolf were onto dry land, and immediately Crescent collapsed. Zalen could not blame him, it must have been much more traumatic for a wolf who could not see, and even Zalen could feel the tightness in his chest from the smoke. He placed his body like a cage over the unconscious white wolf. He was panting, his eyes squinting in the stinging air, as he glanced around quickly to take tally of his members.

Keylo had given up his fruitless attempt to stop the fire, especially after he had noticed Krys’ fear at crossing the river. His son was quick to pick his dear friend up and ferry her across, and soon the two of them were nearby, along with Florina. Athena, Lucia and the others crossed easy as well, and Ciara made sure to get a still frozen Yuna moving. But where were Thoirni and Tharin?

Crescent stirred and Zalen was quickly off him and moving up and down the river bank, the flames were growing higher and Zalen feared they might be over taken, but he was too frightened to leave the river bank knowing two of his most loyal members were still over there. He whined heavily, but then, thank all the Great Spirits, with a loud clap of thunder the dark heavens finally opened and the downpour began.

Soon, the sound of the heavy rain drowned out the sound of crackling fire, and steam overpowered the smoke, but still there was no Tharin or Thoirni. Zalen lifted his head out across the river and howled, but there was no response.

Then, suddenly, a splashing sound could be heard through the haze. Zalen whipped his head to see a charred and smoking body drag itself out of the river. It was Thoirni, and though singed he was still alive. The Alpha was quickly beside him, Tharin? He whisper, and the bi-color eyed male looked up at him sadly and then shook his head. Zalen’s heart broke.

Confusion and chaos reined, yet the sky refused to give the pack relief. Amber eyes scanned the area even as she retreated to the river. Many of the members followed, but some stayed behind. Keylo and Florina hung back as the young male tried desperately to stamp the fires out. Yuna froze, but the ivory Omega was quick on her feet and immediately helping out the younger wolf. Zalen was hauling Crescent across the river and after Keylo gave up his attempt to stamp the fire out, soon ran to Krys's aid and helped the silver female across. Many of the members focused on helping the Amarok pups across the river safely, while Thoirni and Tharin remained hidden from her view.

Between all the panicking members and the roaring fire, Raeka couldn't figure out where to go. She stood on the wrong side of the river backs, unsure as to where to move and who to help. Tongues of flame licked at the dry grass nearby and slithered closer to her with every second. Just when Raeka though she might help Yuna, Ciara came in and dragged the young wolf across the river.

Unsure as to what to do, Raeka made her own way across the river and aimed directly for the youngest pups who stood huddle, wet, and afraid on the opposite bank. Quickly emerging, she gathered the three Amaroks and led them farther away from the fire. It was the only thing she could think to do, but at least it was something.

OOC:

Yuna remained rooted to the spot, despite Kiara's attempts to get the young female to move. Her gentle prodding and nudges had no effect. Over the roar of the flames, Kaira heard Keylo shouting that Florina was also in need of help. Her head shot to the side as she quickly located the struggling female. Yet she couldn't leave Yuna. Seconds later, Lucia was by their side and Kiara was half tempted to snap at her daughter. Lucia should be with Saki and her other siblings, not here, not close to the fire.

Before the ivory mother could get a single word out, Ciara appeared and grabbed Yuna by the scruff, hauling the frightened pup to the river and safely across to the opposite shore. Kiara wasted no time, she quickly turned to Lucia and snapped, "Get back across the river! NOW!" Her words left no room for argument. Kiara would not have her daughter burn. "Watch over you siblings."

The Omega turned back towards Florina, her swift paws carrying her to the other's side. Worried eyes glanced up at the coughing female and tears began to well up and block her already clouded vision. The smoke irritated her eyes and filled the air like fog. It burned her nostrils and made her want to cough as well. With the fire on their backs and smoke in their lungs, Kiara knew she had to focus on Florina. However, the mother's mind wandered and she soon found her gaze straying to all of her pups. Raeka had her youngest, Saki was panting on the other side of the rive, but without Lucia or Tharin there to watch over them in her place she felt a lurking sense of unease. As if to force herself to focus, Kiara urged the struggling female forward vocally. "C'mon Florina. We're almost there."

By the time Kiara hoisted herself onto the far side of the bank, most of the pack was already there. Thunder boomed over the cackling fire and the sky unleashed a heavy sheet of rain. Smoke rapidly turned to steam and the arctic female's overcoat flattened against her soft fur like a rain jacket. Kiara glanced over and saw Raeka calming the six month old pups and she was just about to join them when she saw Thoirni drag himself to the bank out of the corner of her eye. His coat was singed and his movements were jerky from exhaustion. Seeing the unshifted male reminded her that she hadn't seen Tharin. Zalen was by his side in an instant, but Kiara's eyes wandered over the breaking fire and exhausted wolves as she tried to find her mate.

When it became clear that he wasn't around, Kaira ran over to Thoirni. She last saw them together, he had to know where Tharin was. "Are you alright? Where's Tharin?" Sad eyes greeted her back and Thoirni opened his mouth as if to speak, but no words emerged from his black lips. Kiara stared at him as the realization of what had happened washed over her like the rain. Sapphire eyes looked out at dead landscape and she watched the last whispers of flame die. She turned her gaze up to Zalen, the pack's protector and leader. He always knew what to do and always helped her when she needed it most. Her voice cracked as she begged, "Please."
