The short funny man is here

Derek stood at the border, wondering why his life seemed so turned around lately. Sure he had left Sapient for a time, to work on his trading and people skills, but he had expected to return to Sapient. Instead he had returned to find that the pack had disbanded, and that almost everyone had left the area. Of course, the first person he had looked for was his mate, Constance. He had looked everywhere he could think of, in their shared building-where he had only found the quilt he had made back in the Court-in the main pack area where the others had stayed, even through the woods in the surrounding area. The short white wolf had called her name until his voice went hoarse, and had not wanted to stop. If it weren't for his brother, he may still be looking, but of course Alex had to be all logical and convince him that them getting lost wouldn't do any good. So they had made a sort of compromise, they would find somewhere close to stay and still keep a eye out for the tall grey female.

Derek had automatically thought of Krokar. The pack was close to where Sapient had been staying, and he had already interacted with some of the pack members before now. It didn't hurt that it was full of traders-or so he had gathered when Sapient had stayed here. He looked to Alex, who gave a nod and let out a loud howl to make it known they were here. Derek's throat was still sore from yelling, and he was sure when he spoke it would sound raw. Sighing softly he looked to the handmade cart they had with them, it was something they could move by pulling together, but Alex had done most of the pulling during their trip back from the outpost. It was full of items, including fabric, some books and even a few scraps of paper the two had found in a abandoned human town. Then there was the quilt that Derek had made, laid on top of the other things as protection. It could also be shown as proof of his sowing skills if that was needed. Sighing again he hoped this plan would work and that his mate was safe where ever she may be right now.

The sharp, harsh song of the cicadas ebbed and flowed in his ears. But Milos Parhelion could scarcely hear them over the voices of is eldest daughter and youngest son. He stole a glance behind him, his sunny eyes catching the appearance of Daisy and Percival following behind him, dirty looks and wrinkled noses being passed between them as they argued.

He couldn't remember who had started it, but at some point shortly after they had left Fiskebyn, the topic of shifting had been brought up and which of them would be the first one to shift. Of course, Daisy was adamant that she would be the first and Percival, stubborn and proud as he was, simply would not accept that anyone but himself should reach that milestone first.

"You're too lazy to shift first! Lazy Daisy, Lazy Daisy!"

"Am not. Anyway, at least I'm not a mommy's boy!"

"Kids!" Milos barked, interrupting their escalating argument before Percival could react. "Now, that's enough! En't gonna let th' two'a ya carry on, call—"

The hoarse cry at the borders cut Milos' scolding voice short and, together, the trio listened. He frowned at the pair. "Stay here," he told them. "An' I don't wanna come back t' no more name-callin'n arguin'." Milos looked from Daisy to Percival. "Got it?"

After the pair had hung their heads and promised to do as they were told, the Captain sent a brief response back and then jogged the distance from where he'd left Daisy and Percy to greet the caller at the border. He slowed as he got closer, catching sight of the two ivory men at the edge of Krokaran territory quite easily. "Hello there!" he called out, lifting an arm and giving them a gentle wave. The smile on his face was bright and kind. "Name's Milos Parhelion, Captain'a Krokar." The wolfdog shifted his eyes to the cart and then looked between the two strangers. Was that Sapient he could smell on them? "There somethin' I can help th' pair'a with t'day?"

Derek gave a smile and a wave as a male approached them "Heya" he greeted in return, and found that yes, his voice was rather raw sounding. Giving a light cough he tried to at least sound somewhat better before continuing "I am Derek Winter, and this is my brother Alex. We used to live over in Sapient, but well...that's gone now" of course this male would know that right? Well, didn't hurt to mention it in case the news of it disbanding hadn't exactly been made known yet. "We decided we would like to live here, if you would allow it" the short white male looked up to his brother, expecting the younger male to be pouting, but Alex looked calm and even had a friendly smile on his maw. That was good at least, when Derek had first suggested this, Alex had fought it a little, wanting to be part of a pack that was more focused on fighting.

Shrugging to himself, he imagined that eventually his brother would leave to seek out such a thing on his own. Turning his attention back to the male who had greeted them, something that the other had said clicked in his mind "Wait, Gus isn't the captain any more??" he frowned softly, wondering when this change had happened. Though it had not been exactly his job to keep track of what was going on in Krokar, he should have at least known when the leadership had changed hands. Or well...perhaps he and Alex had been at the outpost already by that time. Collecting himself, and shaking off those thoughts he scratched his cheek "That's interesting..." in the brief time he had interacted with Gus, he had found the older male to be kind. "Welp, our inquiry still stands as to having a home here. I can offer trading, sowing, fighting, and trap making skills. Alex here is mostly a fighter, but he can cook as well." he may as well list of their skills before they were asked for. At least for the other packs he had lived with, they had wanted to know at the first meeting.

Milos listened, his bright eyes shifting from one ivory wolf to the other. Brothers, it was revealed, and former Sapiens as well. The Captain nodded somberly with mention of their ally's untimely disbandment. Asura's appearance, with a wealth of new animals to add to their stock, had offered insight into Sapient's dissolution. He had been taken the news unhappily, thinking back to all their two packs had achieved and the experiences – good and bad – that they had made it through together.

His eyes lost focus for a short time as his thoughts spirited him away, but they flickered back to Derek when he offered an explanation for the pair's appearance at Krokar's borders. "A'course!" he replied, his nod this time more lively. "Former Sapiens are more'n welcome t' seek refuge'r a permanent home here." Just as Krokar had done with Vinátta, and AniWaya before that, the fisherfolk were happy to welcome friends within their fold.

Gesturing for the two men to follow him, Milos offered to lead them past the border. "Heck," he began, grinning widely at Derek. "Glad t' hear ya know Gus." He shook his head. "Got a trade outpost down in Portland'n Gus reckoned he'd take spend some time there for a bit, make sure all was runnin' smoothly'n such. Me'n Lucille're Krokar's Captains now." He paused to see if Derek new Lucille, then followed the shift in subject. "All's them skills'd be welcome here. Be nice t' have another person knows how t' sew, too." He glanced at Alex. "An' m' wife'd be mighty pleased t' have another cook about too, I'm sure." Perhaps the two of them could trade recipes and trade secrets, Milos thought as he lead the pair into Krokar.
