IC: Somehow, they'd made it away with their lives. The blood that caked her face and in some places, still ran freely partly blinded her, even as the rain began to fall washing at the deep gashes beneath. She was in immense pain, a stupor, weak from blood loss and from the come down of adrenaline. The pack Gamekeeper rode atop her paint mare, who too bled freely from a deep wound to her flank. She'd been a tough girl, carrying her rider as far as she had at such a fast pace back to the Vale despite the injury which made her leg shake, causing her to limp with each step now that their pace had slowed.

Both required medical attention and rest. The attack on them had been unwarranted and so very quick. Sedona couldn't stop replaying it in her mind as she slumped over the back of her steed, her thigh freely bleeding, despite the pressure she attempted to apply upon it with her bandana. The wound was bad enough that she feared her ability to walk right again. It mimicked the gash upon her steed's side. Panting hard, the familiar house tops of Winterwynd came into view and the Whitesage woman whimpered with relief. The rain began to pick up more as the two hit the borders of the town. Half conscious and ready to give into her pain, Sedona let out a raspy howl calling for help, fighting to make it to the edges of town. As the sounds of Hopi's hooves hit pavement, the tan coydog lost her grip upon the back of the mare, and slid, unconscious to the hard muddy ground with a hard thump and was aware of the world around her no longer. Blood pooled slowly at her head and neck and more worrisome around her leg. She had already lost a lot of blood, and without swift care, she would surely die...

Open now for others to join. Help Zuri take care of Sedona.

Morning was coming to the land, and so too, the bats would soon be heading to sleep from their evening patrols. It would do well to get the most use out of them before they would be leaving to hibernate for the cold months to come. Being a creature that moved in the night, it was not unreasonable to believe that Zuri would be up and sleep just like the small creatures she trained. She stood outside her home, watching the skies.

Saga was still away at the summit, as was her husband, leaving her not only in charge of looking after her family, but the whole of the Vale on her own. Well, it wasn't completely on her own, but this was a good chance to prove that the Ursarchon could leave things in her hands when she needed to be away or was called away for things like the summit.

The pale woman paused, sitting up straight for a moment. Was it a sixth sense or something? It was almost like she had gotten the feeling that something was wrong.

Her feelings were well confirmed when she spotted one of the bats flying towards her. It's state was much more panicked, and what soon followed was a weakened cry for help on the edge of their town. Eyes narrowed as she commanded the bat to stay here. Someone had to watch over Callisto while she was gone.

Zuri wasted no time in getting up from her seat and heading in the direction of the sound that rang. Her heart sank as she came to find Sedona and her horse, both of them heavily wounded. The luperci had fallen into the mud, her blood mixing with it to create a huge mess. Quickly stripping from her dress, she moved over to the tan woman, checking at her pulse. It was weak, but she was at least still hanging on.

Her own pale fur pressed against the open wounds, letting out a loud and urgent call. With how early it was, there was sure to be many in the area. The more that could gather to help, the better.

OOC :: Words→ 469

Zuri’s call woke her like a lightning bolt to the chest. Falcon gasped as her claws pierced the fabric of her hammock, making it sway like a ship on the loch. She stared up at the dark ceiling, her heart pounding against her ribs, and willed herself to stop shaking; if she didn’t, she wouldn’t be able to stand up.

Falcon focused on the rain outside and a familiar drip-drip-drip from the closet behind her. Sedona had long-since patched the old leaks and replaced the rotten interior, but the storm must have knocked something loose on the roof; she’d have to go up there and fix it before it started snowing.

Suitably distracted, the Elkenfrey’s shaking slowed, then stopped entirely. She scrambled out of bed and ran toward the living room, not bothering to get dressed before she left the house. Falcon’s skirt, her borrowed cloak, her axes, they’d all just slow her down; whatever was going on, Zuri needed her now.

Falcon burst through the front door and into the street, her feet pounding against the cold, wet cobblestones. Zuri’s call came from the edge of town, which gave her plenty of time to worry about its catalyst. Was someone hurt? Had a building collapsed, trapping someone inside? The thought made her shiver, not like she needed the extra help; she was soaking wet, half-naked, and terrified.

Zuri’s ivory fur seemed to glow in the early morning gloom, even obscured by a torrent of rain. She seemed to be hunched over something, or someone, and there was a horse… No, there was Hopi. Falcon’s blood ran cold when she saw Sedona’s body, the ruddy woman painted crimson with fresh blood. ”No, no, no, no, no…” she moaned, pressing her hands against the closest, bleeding wound. Hopi stood stalwart above her master, shaking from her own injuries, but at least she still stood—at least she wasn’t half-dead on the ground.

”What happened?” Falcon asked, as if Zuri hadn’t found her moments before. ”Did she fall? Did you… Did you see her fall? She stared at the Risegard, the woman’s ivory coat stained with Sedona’s blood, and felt her stomach lurch. Falcon couldn’t check the back of Sedona’s head because if she let go… Oh Gods, what would happen if she let go? She pressed harder at the thought, the names of every deity she knew spilling from her lips, ”All Mother, Artoi, Fenris, the… The Great Stump, Foam Mother, the Night Merchant, Honrin, Dalgina, don’t let me let go, don’t let me let go…”

Sedona was strong, Sedona was brave, and Sedona was dying; if Falcon let go, it would be all her fault.
