World Turned Upside Down

Noxweald

OOC: Sedona has found herself in quite the predicament. This counts towards one of the November thread prompts (startling critters due to the crunchy leaves/ruined hunt thanks to the leaves. Bonus: whoever takes this thread can claim the "rescue someone" catacomb. ;) WC: 624

IC: It was rare that Sedona was found her in her Lupus form. She preferred her upright Optime form more than anything as it was more versatile for her duties within the pack. However, on four legs she was a lot faster and a lot less likely to be bothered as she made her way through the thick forest of Noxweald late in the afternoon, heading back towards Winterwynd after an unsuccessful morning hunt. The coydog was tired, but she knew that once home she could take a good long nap and recoup from her long travels through the Mistfell territory.

Making her way at a swift trot, her red bandanna the only indication of her presence in the heavy mists of the trees, Sedona followed her nose in the trees where most whom weren't familiar with the terrain would otherwise have gotten lost. The woman was still no expert in the area, but she had meandered through the deep woods enough to know her way through it well enough not to become hopelessly turned around. There was still plenty of leaves upon the ground that crunched beneath her feet with each step, disturbing the occasional bird from their perch in the trees above. On one occasion, a crow was startled into flight by a particularly deep patch of fallen leaves in which the Whitesage canid almost tripped and fell into. It was a lot deeper than it looked. With a huff, Sedona growled at the bird for scaring her and then kicked at the pile of leaves in frustration for they'd not only been a nuisance in her travels, but during her hunt as well. Because of the crackling leaves, she'd lost her prey twice. First a rabbit, second a deer. The two animals had been alerted to her presence by the leaves underfoot. There was nothing she could've done to silence them. It was just that time of year.

Sighing and continuing on her way, Sedona crunching along, watching the area around her and picking her way through the fog and thickets. It wasn't until suddenly she stepped into another rather deep pile of leaves and she felt something tighten around her ankle that she yelped and found herself bodily yanked skyward. The motion caused the small hunting knife loosely tied around her foreleg to slip free and clatter away to the ground. Without warning, the Hawkesond was caught up in a snare trap and ended up dangling painfully by the rear foot about 4 feet off the ground. She snarled and twisted, howling at the painful noose of rope about her ankle. In her hurry to get home and out of the cold she'd forgotten to avoid the paths she knew that her fellow pack mates usually set traps in. 'Damn it!' She thought and tried to curl up in on herself to reach her ankle where the rope was cutting in deep. But it was to no avail.

Wincing the woman dropped back and dangled again, panting. Her world was upside down.Closing her eyes and tried to kick free again one last time, claws scraping at the rope, but found it wouldn't budge. Knowing she wouldn't be getting out of this predicament without assistance, Sedona then let out a cry for help, tipping her head and howling as loud as she could, hoping that someone would be nearby enough to answer her plea. "Help! Someone help me!" She wouldn't be able to just 'hang out' there for very long without some serious damage being inflicted upon her limb or having a serious blood rush to her head. Whimpering and still struggling a bit, trying desperately to free herself, Sedona's eyes darted about, watching for any sign of an approaching rescuer.

Sineria was in his optime form and had his grappling hook strapped to his back when his ears perked up at the sound of someone in distress. "O-Oh god, that’s not g-good," Sineria thought as he rushed towards the cry and looked around until he saw a packmate trapped in a snare. Afraid for the worst, the white wolf rushed headfirst towards her and said,"I-I’m coming, j-just stay calm!"

He examined the scene and figured that someone forgot to dismantle their trap before they ran back home to Winterwynd. People should be really more careful with these things He thought as he crouched down with his grappling hook in hand and examined the rope binding the packmate to the trap. "I-Is everything o-okay?" Sineria asked although the situation was quite clear that she wasn’t okay at all. He looked down at the trapped leg and he looked up to her and said,"I-I think I c-can cut you l-loose, w-with this." Sineria showed her one of the sharp edges of the grappling hook and moved it down to cut her free.

Sineria's heart was pounding out of his chest in this moment as he was terrible with pressure in stressful situations. This was also the first time he actually responded to danger and he wasn’t sure what he should do after he freed her from the trap, so he felt a bit nostalgic to actually play the hero in this scenario.

OOC: Thanks for replying! :D WC: 371

Thankfully her cries for help didn't take long to be answered. The longer she dangled upside down the more her ankle throbbed from the pressure cutting into the flesh there. Snarling in frustration at her mistake, the cowgirl once more tried to curl in upon her own body to reach her rear foot. Teeth snapped closed on the rope, but her leverage was poor. She couldn't chew and hold her whole body weight up like that. "I-I’m coming, j-just stay calm!" A voice said, echoing through the trees and with a whine the woman fell back and focused on breathing as suddenly a white form appeared and quickly assessed her embarrassing situation.

The male wasn't anyone she'd met yet, but she had at least seen him before in passing. He smelled strongly of Mistfell and of worry. "Oh thank gods yer here, I can't believe I was this stupid and ended up like this. I can't tell ya how much ya bein' here means t'me!" Sedona gushed, doing her best to ignore the pain in her leg. "I-Is everything o-okay?" The ivory furred Mistwalker asked and Sedona couldn't help but let out a harsh barking laugh. "Ive been better that's fer sure! My ankle's killin' me. Can ya get me down?" She asked as he examined the rope holding her in place. Sedona didn't think that the injury was too deep but if she didn't get let loose soon, the damage would only worsen. "I-I think I c-can cut you l-loose, w-with this." His stuttering uncertainty made Sedona's heart drop a bit as she eyed his grappling hook. 'Well this is great...' She thought to herself and gave the male pleadingly hopeful eyes. "I'm willin' to try anything." A hook, a sharp stick, anything to be free of this predicament.

Once she was freed the woman could determine how badly she was hurt and could maybe have her fellow Mistwalker help her back to Winterwynd. She hoped that it wouldn't be anything that serious, but at least she had somebody friendly enough to assist. "I'm ready whenever you are, hon. Do whatever it takes." She told him and prepared for the ungraceful fall that would come after her foot came loose.

"O-Okay, I just n-need to cut th-this a-aaaand..." Sineria said as he moved the blade back and forth to cut the rope, but doing this suddenly caused it to SNAP and Sineria’s packmate toppled down onto him and the two hit the ground with a resounding THUD. Sineria then sat up a few moments later and saw his packmate on his chest, and it had seemed that he had broken her fall although he certainly didn’t want it to pan out that way, he was happy to help nonetheless.

"A-Are you alright?" Sineria coughed as he laid in the leaves and groaned after having his packmate dropped on top of him. He was fairly sure that nothing on him was broken, and he was more concerned with how well his packmate was doing after her tumble. He then put his grappling hook down on the ground next to him and looked up at his packmate and said,"I-I’m Sineria, Elkenfrey, a-and you are...? Heh..." Sineria felt a little awkward as he asked his packmate's name like he would any individual out in the wild, but then again he wasn’t very social at all within his pack.

Sedona found herself holding her breath. She didn't dare move as the white male worked the sharpened edge of the grappling hook against the rope and her ankle. It was too precarious to try and help. Besides, in her lupus form there was not a whole lot she could do. If she had shifted during her dangling predicament, she would have only cause more harm than good. The noose about her ankle wouldn't dug in further and caused more pain. On a silent count of three, cut short, suddenly, the Hawkesond fell haphazardly from her floating position and on top of her rescuer with a loud yelp.

In a puff of leaves and a bit of fur, the two hurried to disentangle themselves. It was awkward at best, but boy was Sedona grateful for the male's efforts, and for his unintentional cushioning of her fall. "Oh my goodness, I am so sorry!" The cowgirl blurted as she scrambled off of him, blushing, embarrassed and with a light groan. He was warm, soft and honestly quite a welcome presence compared to the cold, harsh, frozen ground she now stood upon. "A-Are you alright?" He asked her, coughing a bit. Sedona's ears splayed sympathetically. "I think so. The woman sat and turned to examine her foot. There was a deep laceration only on the inner surface of the limb, the rest of where the rope had cut in was just rubbed raw, leaving a circular mark that stung in the cold November air. Wincing the cowgirl frowned. "I'll definitely need to clean this." She told her savior, licking a few times at the blood upon the wound, but ultimately not wanting to go into any first aid until she was safely back to Winterwynd.

"I-I’m Sineria, Elkenfrey, a-and you are...? Heh..." After a moment, the male intorduced himself shyly. "Oh, I'm Sedona; Hawkesond. I'm sorry our first meeting has been under such circumstances, but it is truly a pleasure." She smiled, tongue lolling from her maw a bit in the gesture, her canid muzzle in her lupus form poorly showing the expression. After a brief pause Sedona tipped her head. "Do you think you might be able to escort me back to Winterwynd? That is, if you're not headed elsewhere?" She asked, and glanced at her mangled foot again. "I'd hate to try to hobble all the way back and end up hurting myself farther." She said. I'd shift but I'll have much better balance and can move faster this way." She told him and then noticed her small hunting knife off to the side of them under where she'd originally been dragged upwards by the rope and it had fallen away from her person. She growled softly and fetched it in her teeth, limping deeply with each step she took before returning to her new ally's side. "I hope this all hasn't caused ya too much trouble." The cowgirl whined and met the male's gentle, bi-colored gaze with a grateful yet concerned look. "I owe you big time, Sineria. You just saved my life..."

Sineria paused once he heard her say,"I owe you big time, Sineria, you just saved my life..." His face blushed a deep red and he felt extremely nervous, and started pressing his thumbs together. "I... I j-just.... i-it’s..." Sineria stammered on for a minute or two and made the situation completely awkward until he was finally calm enough to speak clearly. He took a few deep breaths and said,"I-I’ll help as m-much as I can. I just.... h-haven’t been in this situation o-on this side of th-the scenario b-before."

‘Twas true, Sineria has been in two grappling hook accidents that could have been deadly, chased by buck deer, and has a nose injury because a beaver chomped it’s buck teeth up his left nostril. He could no longer smell out of his left nostril now, but knowing that something like this could cripple someone else in a way worse than his own injury has was enough motivation for him to help. He didn’t want anything else to happen unless it involved medical assistance. So Sineria grabbed his grappling hook and strapped it back up over his shoulder and said,"I-I’m not concerned with m-me right now Sedona, s-so lets j-just get moving. You d-don’t want t-to out too much weight on y-your other hind leg for t-too long either, s-so let’s hurry. B-but be careful about d-doing it y-you know. Y-you can... i-it’s just...." Sineria took a deep breath and sighed after he made the situation much more awkward and whimpered,"L-Let’s just go."

Taking a moment to replace her knife in the sheath upon her upper foreleg, Sedona noticed her words of gratitude seemed to make Sineria uncomfortable. The male visibly blushed and began to stutter nervously. The Whitesage cowgirl smiled softly in her canid way again, finding his fumbling rather cute. "I-I’ll help as m-much as I can. I just.... h-haven’t been in this situation o-on this side of th-the scenario b-before." He finally collected his words and spoke clearly to her after a moment and Sedona shrugged. "Y'mean yer usually the one needin' the rescuin?" She said playfully. "Don't worry about it. Seems t'me yer doing great so far on this side of things." She encouraged him with a wag of her tail.

Her injured ankle was slowly but surely becoming less painful in the cold, numbing air. While this was partly a good thing, it could also be a bad thing if left in the frozen state too long. Circulation would be important for healing. The Hawkesond was glad when he mentioned moving quickly, albeit carefully. "L-Let’s just go." He whimpered and Sedona nodded to him, still picking up on his anxiety. She stepped forward and brushed her shoulder gently against his leg, a low soothing churring sound in her chest. "Hey... it' alright, Sineria. Ya don't gotta act so brave." She looked up, her gentle greenish yellow eyes meeting his handsome bi colored gaze. "I'm alright, really... I'm gonna make it back just fine, thanks t'you. It's not like it was your fault I wound up in that trap. And it's not like I'm gonna parade about tellin' everyone when we get back, what you did for me. It's my personal gratitude to you. Between you an' me alright, pardner?" She told him with a reassuring headbump to his paw before beginning to limp forward, leading the way in the direction of Winterwynd. Glancing back she teased him. "Y'comin' friend? At this rate, I may just get there before ya after all!" She giggled, flicking her tail and hobbled a few more steps. She hoped her friendly assurance would make the male feel less uncomfortable and allow them to move forward and make it back home with a little less awkwardness between them. She looked forward to getting to know him a bit better as they went along.

Sineria nodded to Sedona and he breathed a sigh of relief because of her kind words towards him. "Th-Thank you..." He muttered under his breath as she last him and for a moment he closed his eyes to collect himself for a moment. The churning butterflies in his stomach seemed to be stirred up today with all of this excitement and they had finally settled, or at least until he heard her say, "Y'comin' friend? At this rate, I may just get there before ya after all!" To which those metaphorical butterflies started a swarm again and he replied, "Y-Yes, uh.... j-just wait up!"

Sineria ran towards her as fast as he could until he tripped over a stray tree root and yelped as he fell down, and slammed into the ground then slid for a few inches. Optime form had always been his most foreign form, and it seemed that his old clumsy habit of tripping had returned to enact revenge on him for whatever reason. He groaned as he stood up, and brushed the dirt off of his fur, mostly, and he jogged back up to Sedona and chuckled with a nervous toothy smile,"S-Sorry about that S-Sedona, I uh.... um.... I-I’m okay, heh." It seemed even when he was at his peak, Sineria was still as awkward as ever with dirt and grass stains in his, now shaggy, white coat.

Sedona waited for Sineria to join her and watched as some internal conflict prevented him from moving for a moment. He seemed to feel some sort of extra shyness around her and that made Sedona unable to stop smiling to herself. He was absolutely the sweetest. Despite her throbbing ankle, his kind and gentle disposition made her feel at ease. She knew he felt uncertain helping her out, but she knew she was in good paws.

"Y-Yes, uh.... j-just wait up!" The ivory male said and darted after her all of a sudden, but tripped over a root sticking out from a tree, and ended up sprawled once again in the dirt. Sedona gasped and limped back to his side, nosing gently as his cheek, ears splayed with concern. "My goodness, I was just teasin' don't hurt yerself now too!" She giggled and gave her company a gentle encouraging nudge as he began to get back to his paws. "S-Sorry about that S-Sedona, I uh.... um.... I-I’m okay, heh." Sedona was thankful to hear. "I'm really not gonna be able to go that fast." She reassured him with a shake of her head. "This cold on my foot is what's keepin' me going to be honest." She told him with a barely contained wince as she flexed her toes on her injured foot.

"Let's just take it easy shall we?" She said, but just then as she began to move forward and pair of chipmunks darted out from the dead leaves under a bush to her right, startling her and causing her to yelp, stumbling backwards against Sineria's legs. Her weight nearly knocked him off his feet for a third time. "Oh!" She cried out, and hurried to regain her footing. "Damned squirrels!" She cursed and growled after the creatures as they scurried up a tree a good distance away, scolding the two canines. "At this rate, both of us are going to need escorts if we keep this up!" She laughed. "Neither of us can seem to stay on our feet. " She smiled, making light of the situation. "We make quite the pair!" The cowgirl wagged her tail and looked up at her new friend. "How about I let you lead the way, hm? Maybe you can get us home."

Sineria stumbled a bit as she fell onto him, but this time he caught himself before he fell. He noticed the rodents dart away at the last second and blushed a bit. Were those seriously why we almost fell? He thought to himself and glared at the bush they darted into and sighed. He then saw Sedona’s reaction to this and he nodded to her in agreement, sometimes the smallest things can be just so annoying. He then paused and his ears perked up as Sedona laughed,"At this rate, both of us are going to need escorts if we keep up like this!"

In response to this Sineria blushed and laughed too, but awkwardly, and it was always awkward for him to hide his embarrassment in front of others. "Y-Yeah, we’re j-just..." Sineria looked away now and cleared his throat and pressed his fingers together in an awkward fashion. Sineria then heard Sedona say,"How about I let you lead the way, hm? Maybe you can get us home."

Sineria nodded and scratched the back of his head awkwardly and took point then said,"J-Just be careful o-okay? I-If we n-need to we c-can rest at m-my place... it’s on th-the away from th-the other h-homes in Winterwynd." Sineria then blushed and slapped himself on the forehead and growled at himself and thought,You idiot! Why are you telling her all about yourself, now!? You barely even know her!
