The boys were natural swimmers, taking great pleasure in wallowing on the water's shallows, churning up great wakes of water as they sprinted after one another. It was warm, the sun high in the sky and streaming through the clouds above the Emberfen lakes. While it wasn't exactly warm, it was humid and stuffy, and the cold water was welcome respite. The Ursarchon sat on the water's edge, having already spent long enough in the water. Her attempt in drying off was severely hampered by both of her sons, whose antics caused water to spray everywhere and soak anything and anyone remotely near to the lake.

After the incident that caused the demise of Steinarr, Saga was more conscious of spending more time with Caspar and Daniel. Granted such efforts weren't always appreciated by them, they were growing older and more independent, growing quickly tired of being shadowed by their mother. But there were some times when they gladly accepted her company, such as today. Saga knew that then the distance between them would grow gradually as time wore on, she knew that there would come a time in the future where the Vale might not be big enough for such adventurous boys. It pained her, but she tried her best to push the thought to the back of her mind.

The sounds of happy, playful yapping, and near constant splashing drew the Vale Gamekeeper from her hunt around the far side of the small lake and towards the sounds. On the muggy Summer day, she'd already caught two rabbits and was just trailing after a possible deer when she decided to take the detour for Saga and her boys. Time had flown by so fast since she'd really gotten to interact with them last. Sedona had been kept so busy with the Rum Bridge rebuild project over the last few months Daniel and Caspar were nearly of age to shift into their Optime forms for the first time. In just one more month they'd be exploring what it was like to run about on two legs. Sedona could just see the enthusiasm on the Ursarchon's face at that prospect.

Smiling the brown and tan coydog watched the two pups splash each other and horse around in the shallows as their mother, sleek and beautiful with her damp dappled pelt glimmering in the sunlight, looked on. For a moment she let the family enjoy their time together before she'd interrupt their fun.It really was a charming sight to behold. Ever since what had happened to Ragna's boy, things had been different around the pack's precious children. Everyone was extra careful and protective of the littlest ones. With the two rabbits slung over her shoulder, Sedona lifted a paw and gave a short bark in greeting to grab the attention of the three canids by the water's edge as she came up on them from the reeds and grasses leading down the the shore. "Howdy y'all! Mind if I join ya?" She grinned addressing Saga, tail flagged, wagging and a brightness in her yellow green eyes as always at the sight of the pups and their mother. Bracing herself, she prepared for the onslaught of the two pups to come rushing up to her (this time wet and sandy) as they usually did when they greeted their "Aunt Sedona".

It was the boys that first spotted Sedona, pausing in their antics to watch her approach for a second before they began to bound awkwardly over the surf towards the shore. Saga, spotting their movements, turned her vibrant green eyes inland, finally falling on the tan builder. Squinting into the sun, her tail flagged in mirrored greeting, 'Of course.'

Gradually, the splashing grew louder and louder, turning into the beating of paws on the sand. The bottom of the lake churned up to the surface and flew into the air as wake after wake collided between the growing forms of Caspar and Daniel. The Ursarchon flinched as the pair shot past her, zeroing in on Sedona, all wet and sandy. There was some attempt at corralling the pair of them verbally, but ultimately her commands fell on deaf ears as both of her sons made contact with Sedona. The dappled woman gave her an apologetic stare, shaking her head lightly and sighing. She supposed she should be grateful that Mistfell Vale was such a safe (though Saga wasn't quite sure of that in recent times) and warm place for them both to grow up that such frivolities and boisterousness were not only tolerated but openly welcomed.

The rambunctious greeting she'd come to expect from Saga's boys was no less enthusiastic this time as it was any other. Sedona laughed heartily as the soggy and sandy pups came barreling into her, nearly knocking her off balance as she did her best to hug and pet each of them. Grinning she ruffled their ears, not minding that her fur and bandanna were now soaked and covered in the granules of sand. She had planned to join them in the lake anyhow. The day was still young and very very warm after all.

"Now now boys, it's good to see you too, but listen to your mom. You're getting too old and far too big to be acting like this." She chuckled, meaning well but just unable to keep the humor from her voice. The Whitesage woman really was no good at being any kind of authoritative with the boys. She had a soft spot for them, she could help it. It sometimes made her wonder that if or when the time came for her to have her own litter would that change? Would she become more protective? These were all unknowns that Sedona had to consider. And it was how she knew she wasn't ready to take on the extra responsibility of children of her own. She also knew that Sineria was not ready either. The two of them were very open about how they felt and it just wasn't the right time.

Wagging her tail at Saga, Sedona began to herd Daniel and Caspar back towards the water. "Alright, go on, go play, I'll join ya in a moment." She playfully clicked her teeth at the boys, and swatted their rears lightly, running them down to the waters edge with a playful growl before trotting back over to where Saga remained on the beach. Glancing back over her shoulder to make sure the pups were occupied again, she shook her head. "They're almost shifting age. I can't believe it." She grinned at the dappled mother. "I know you must be getting a bit anxious..." She paused watching the two young ones playing with a slight worried frown. After a moment she spoke again. "They seem to have handled Steinarr's passing well..." She said rather solemnly knowing that the loss of Ragna's boy and her adoption of the orphan bear cub in his name had taken the Vale hard. "I've been meaning to ask ya... What's yer take on Einarr?" Sedona side eyed the Ursarchon, not meaning to bring the mood down, but it'd been a while since she'd had a good conversation with the other woman. She figured while her boys weren't underfoot, it was a good time to play catch up. "He ain't gonna stay a cub forever..." While not worried necessarily that the young bear would turn against his newfound mother, she worried about the fact that he was, well, a bear, trying to fit in among the life of a canid society. It was a little odd. And would Saga, Felix and Calia even allow such a thing? Concern flitted across the tan coydog's face, watching Saga's reaction.

Sedona's good-humoured chiding had absolutely no effect on either boy. Very few in the Vale had the ability to scold them with any result. In Posey's company, both of them were fairly well behaved, though perhaps only out of love and respect for the old Denmother. In Ragna's, their good behaviour was sourced from the same fearsome respect they had for their own mother. Baelish, with his cocksure, cheery antics, had always proved himself as the "fun" uncle and had developed the unique ability to bargain with Daniel and Caspar. As Sedona promised to join them in due time, the boys lively bounced back a few yards, splashing back into the surf and giving each other bemused smirks before they charged back into the water, Daniel chasing down his older brother and nipping at his heels.

Green eyes watched them as they frolicked again, tired and yet amused and enamoured. 'Another month or so.' Saga stated with a thin smile, there was no excitement on her face and all the hallmarks of anxiety. Sedona saw it too and pointed it out, but then the smile had dropped entirely and the Ursarchon could only give a quiet hum of agreement. There was a long moment of silence and Saga looked to Sedona, sharing a frown. 'I don't know...' the dappled woman admitted, her gaze drifting back towards the boys. 'We didn't talk much about it really.' She admitted, almost embarrassed by the lack of heart to hearts they little family had had after the incident.

Sedona's next words made Saga stiffen a little, a deeper frown playing on her face. She didn't turn around as she spoke, 'I trust Ragna.'
