OOC: Hello! Help Rialu and Virue collect wood for fires and building material. She's cutting some pieces, leaving some logs whole and piling them up for perhaps a cart to come collect it later on??

[300+]

IC:

Thick white foam dripped from the tip of Rialu's tongue where she knelt, she spat in the dirt there. "Ope," she remarked, "hit an ant, Virue." She unfolded her body to a standing position and looked over where Virue dragged a netted rope contraption with small logs with his teeth. He was struggling with that, but he stopped to perk his ears for a moment at her, he tilted his head thirty degrees to her right. "I said I hit an ant!" Virue frowned at this and came puttering over, but upon seeing no body in the gooey mess he gave her a playful swat with his tail as he about-faced, then he tripped on a stone with a careless canter, but his feet must have been numb from all the tripping he did on things now. Something had been thrown inside the gears and the pilot was skewed to choose right from left sometimes choosing wrong. That's just the way he was, his mind was decaying, the only living soul in this land that had loved her unconditionally through everything, was slowly shriveling away into nothing.

She broke her gaze away from Virue happily at work and pulled her cotton sleeves over the latest damage, and made work for herself chopping large chunks into halves. She'd...been meaning to tell him, about how her life had come full circle again, but, she hadn't. Was she worth the words exchanged, the frown and the tears and the pity. That's what Virue was, a false comfort. Sure, he was a great cuddle, what collie dog isn't, but--okay maybe he was cute. All of these feelings swelled and they all hurt and comforted in their horribly difficult ways. How did she end up being this soft again? She chopped a log in two, clean.

"Damn." Rialu stopped the swing of the axe. She spat again, she was working up a hard sweat in this harsh summer heat, especially with a few downed trees. She howled laid-back to the breezes, maybe some Vale members wouldn't mind lubricating their elbows for an afternoon.

OOC: Hiiiii! Using this for a third co-rank, Pack Aide I and for Drakehund II if that's okay with you?! We can OOC assume the two of them know of each other even if they've never officially met. Sedona's work on the Rum Bridge pretty much made her famous in the pack. XD WC: 361 +10 use co rank in a thread

IC: Today was an uneventful day. Sedona had risen early, before the sun as was normal to tend to her morning duties within the stables, and upon finishing found herself with idle paws. It was rare that she had no pressing work orders or tasks she need to accomplish. The down time made her restless and it was hard to keep her from pacing about her home (which made Sineria anxious) or from wandering around aimlessly in Winterwynd hoping to find someone who needed some assistance with any little thing here and there. She would often find small little busywork things to do like sweep the inside of the Old Brassard Church, check the status of the pack's storage items, or visit with Falcon for a brief while until her company was worn out. There was just so much time in the day, that the cowgirl found herself wanting more to do. Sitting on her front porch, plucking a few notes on her guitar, the Whitesage woman, sighed. She hated being bored. It was the worst feeling in the world to her. It made her feel useless and tired.

It was when a howl rose up from in the woods suddenly that Sedona's ears perked with hopeful anticipation. Someone wanted some assistance! Setting her instrument aside, the tan and brown coydog leaped off the railing and hurried off in the direction of the howl. Unsure of what she was getting into, she slowed once she hit the treeline and followed the crumbled ruins there until she came upon the reddish woman with her axe. Tipping her head, she approached with a raised paw and a smile in greeting. "Hey there. I heard yer howl..." She said once within ear shot. Looking around her she noticed there was some wood already chopped and piled nearby and just off in the trees, Sedona could make out another figure moving about gathering more wood it seemed. Putting two and two together, the Constructor grinned eagerly. "Choppin' some wood I see. Need some help?" She asked enthusiastically, eager to have some work to do that'd occupy her time. The more physical the labor, the better.

Malfoy was smiling as he walked through the land a bit, he moved his ears as heard a howl. Pausing he considered his options. He had been on a hunt for some nice wood since James said he wanted some to carve with. Shrugging he headed to the howl and saw that a few fellow members were chopping wood. Maybe he could take some home after the task was done, for now, he figured he could use the exercise. He approached and waved "I'll lend a hand..." he looked to the task at hand "What do you need to be done?"

Though he didn't mind helping, he wasn't sure where to start. Having a known task to tackle was always better than not knowing where to start. The grey male figured he could ask for some of the wood later, and if he couldn't take any then it wasn't like they were terribly far from a source of wood. Shrugging he stretched, feeling a small pop in his back, but it felt good and eased his muscles some. That would certainly help with the task at hand if he was not tense, to begin with.

She was standing there with the log in two, the dividing factor in hand, breathing heavily like a dog when her prayers were answered. Sedona the...bridge lady. Yeah, sure a bridge goes down and someone's the hero but who fed everyone in the process. Not the bridge. She was the keen eye and fast hands that got shit done, and if not the only, then she had to be one of the best at what she did. "Bonjour. Why yes, yes I would. Grab the other axe and start swingin," Rialu gestured to the sharpened blade and handle propped to her left on a lonely stump. "There's plenty of wood to use for a chopping block, just don't lop off your leg eh?" She mused, but not before setting another piece on her block for execution. Then the axe fell and the wood split clean where she had aimed all in one motion. It was far too easy to do considering her height and level of strength, but it took its toll in exhaustion and soreness in her lower back from bending. She griped, spat with distaste and made a scene of throwing her axe aside before stalking away from where she had been working.

Rialu sat down to cool off for a moment, playing her eyes towards the skies like Virue often did wondering about some far off and fair existence. But it was cold down here where the real world played out, where her eyes stung, her back ached. "Hoo...it's a hot one out here," she voiced, ears lowered to stare at the next newcomer to grace this freshly cut area of what used to be a myriad of evergreen. "Yeahhh, you can uhh," she searched the boy's face, looked to Sedona assigned to chopping wood, and Virue still struggling with pulling wood pieces together into a pile. "Definitely...start...piling up this wood, where the cute little coyote is bringing it." She smirked at her comment about Virue, and he turned his head to pose like the whole world was watching, and she laughed. "Killing it," Rialu joked with a broad smile, and she plucked the axe from its awkward position in the soft dirt to keep calm and swing on.

She thought a moment as she struck another chunk of wood and it fell in two places. She started to sing real low and quiet out of modest realism, because she knew she was no birdsong, but nonetheless a soothing tune that repeated and varied slightly where it gained some bounce and velocity. Her shoulders wrenched down on another victim that had once grown skyward, and still she kept her lungs full to sing in time with each swing, and suddenly Virue was dragging more weight than he could before; his ears intently raised to hear her shallow voice amidst the chopping and the forest.

Sedona looked around the little clearing that had so far been made by the two. It was decent work. Sedona remembered being tasked with felling trees, hauling the logs and chopping wood as a young adult, though of course the trees back home were a bit different. The desert grew hardy but stunted. Axes broke a lot easier on the knotted, gnarled bark and reptative strikes. These trees grew fairly straight, but were definitely of harder woods. It would take precision swings and strength to get through them.

"Grab the other axe and start swingin." The Whitesage woman was plenty strong from her years of working ranches and building. She wasn't worried about being able to help out. Nodding she moved to take up the other tool. "There's plenty of wood to use for a chopping block, just don't lop off your leg eh?" The other woman warned and Sedona chuckled. "I'ma pretty good aim, don't ya worry." She then set to finding a larger stump to use as her chopping block. Choosing one, she then grabbed up a bundle of yet to be split wood and dumped it next to it before setting up her first piece and taking her overhead swing, coming down and splitting the log cleanly in two, the axe embedding in the stump with a satisfying thump.

The Gamekeeper got through a few pieces when the three of them were joined by a fourth. Sedona looked up as splinters of wood scattered everywhere from her last swing and she bent to retrieve them. She recognized Malfoy from previous encounters. Smiling she gave a friendly wave to him as he received some instructions from the coyote where she sat upon the porch for a breather before returning to work. Concentrating on her pile of wood, Sedona couldn't help but shift her ears back to listen to Rialu's song as she resumed chopping her own pile. While her voice was rough, the tune was uplifting. The tan coydog found herself wagging her tail in time with the music as she successfully chopped another log in half and gathered the pieces, tossing them into the growing pile. There was nothing like a good song to make the work go by faster.

Malfoy gave a nod, then went and started moving the wood into stacks. He wasn't weak by any means, always training for a fight, but manual labor was a bit different. So despite his strength, he knew his arms and back may be sore by the end of the day's work. Oh well, at least he was doing something productive, and he could always use the excersize. His ears twitched a bit as the coyote woman started to voice a song. He noticed the other female wag her tail in time and chuckled, just then recognizing Sedona. They had only briefly met a few times, so he guessed it was all right that he hadn't recognized her right away.

The grey male started to just focus on his task, the song and chopping becoming no more than sounds in the background. Lift, carry, stack, lift, carry, stack. He had formed a type of tempo to it, not realizing he some what matched the song that was linguring in the air. It was hard work, and it was good work and he felt a smile spreading as the stack of wood grew even though there was plenty more to add to it. There was enough now that it may last a month, perhaps two if the winter wasn't too harsh.

The work was drawing to a finer point now, with two extra slugging away, and the next time she dropped the axe she'd had attached to her fingertips the woman nodded at Sedona. "Thanks for offering to help," she told her. Then she went and sat on the most evenly cut stump she could find, which had begun to be a habit for today. She lit a cigarette, watched the smoke float around her head, and watched Malfoy working near where Virue was. But only, he wasn't there anymore, maybe he'd snuck off? Virue never really left her side much, not since his illness, his injuries, his inability to speak. Next off like a gazelle. Rialu stood and walked to where Malfoy was, around the maze of cut logs, she was about to ask the whereabouts of her friend when she saw the net she'd made for Virue laying vacant. "Okay where's my toddler," she sighed, and then she heard yapping. It was him from sound alone she knew it, and she turned to its direction, ears spiking with each crying burst.

She listened to its tone, and it was rough, ferocious, torn. "Something's not right," she muttered. She blinked a few times, and ran in the direction of his voice. "It's Virue!" Through the forest, where Virue's voice echoed through the canals and gutters of the trees like whispers from a ghost. Rialu's head hurt, the voices raised and went away, but one thing was for certain; he was on the move. She needed to find him, he must be in horrible danger, but when had finally swung herself around enough trees and looked down enough trenches, she found him sprinting around in an oval shape in a clearing barking like a rabid maniac. Her ears faltered at the heights of his voice, and she waved her arms at him but he would not stop. His face was a blur, he was a blur, his body was a panicked, strained calamity trying to do something it should not. He was going to hurt himself. "Arrette! Vir! What are you doing, arrete!" To nothing and no response save for the wailing and flailing of the boy who could run. Despite his rampancy he was treading a path in the grass in more or less an oval shape so she did the only logical thing and stood in his way.

He hit harder than she expected, folding in her arm and knocking the air from her ribs, but when she fell, so did he from hitting a thing as large as his mate, and she scrambled to him and grabbed him as he yipped and yapped, and even bit, his eyes clinging to the edges of the forest. When Rialu looked there, there was nothing, and when she turned to his blue eyes there was a violent and primal instinct to fight, everything in his body language told her he was in danger. There was no danger to be seen, however, and his shaking frightened her, but still she held him until he stopped his crazed behavior, and his sharp breathing grew cumbersome. "What," Rialu gasped, "the hell?"

For a time, Rialu's song, the sound of labored breaths, the swinging of axes and rustling about in leaves strewn upon the ground was the soundtrack of the afternoon. Sedona worked diligently to chop through the pile of gathered wood and make a dent in it. Slowly but surely her muscles began to ache and protest from the repeated motions of stoop, place wood, stand, swing, chop, and gather the pieces. It was a tedious job but one that kept the Whitesage woman's mind and body occupied so she didn't mind the protesting of her physical self as long as she wasn't bored.

Before long, Rialu once more took a break, and Sedona too took this as a queue to pause in her own work. Resting her axe against the stump she'd been using at a chopping block the tan woman shook out her hair free of splintered wood and panted openly, catching her breath, looking up at the canopy of trees, shading her eyes from the harsh sunlight. She smiled and nodded over to Malfoy who was still working where Virue was... Wait a moment. It seemed that at the same moment, Sedona realized the other male was no longer dragging his net of wood Rialu also noticed and went in search of him, a look of concern on her face. Something's not right."

Ears perking, Sedona followed, pace quickening as suddenly harsh yelps began to fill the air. "Malfoy!" She called to the Wolverthorne whom she knew had better fighting skills than she did. She ran after the other woman, hand flying to her side where her knife was kept and withdrew it ready to defend her packmate against whatever harm was coming to him only to find a very strange scene before her. Virue was running in a circle, seemingly being chased by nothing, panic in his cries. He bowled straight into his mate and almost looked as it he would attack her. The gamekeeper watched with uncertainty, not sure how to respond as Rialu slowly seemed to regain control of the situation, holding the spastic male close.

Standing at a distance from the couple, Sedona looked around, seeing no immediate threat then replaced her knife into its sheath. Releasing a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding the Whitesage woman frowned and slowly approached. "Rialu...? Is... Is he okay? What's goin' on?" She asked softly, concern and confusion evident in her voice and upon her face. "Anythin' I can do to help?"

So focused on his task, the grey male hadn't even noticed that Virue was missing, despite the other male being right by him. At the sound of his name being called, he looked up and caught Sedona running off after the other female packmate. Frowning he also followed, putting a hand to the hilt of his sword as he did so. Catching up brought up a strange sight, with Virue looking afraid of something unknown. Automatically his fur ruffled and he looked around quickly while sniffing the air. No strange scent of death and rot was around, so perhaps his first thought was not what was going on.

Relaxing only slightly he moved and scanned the top of the treeline, not fully dismissing that there was nothing to be afraid of. If Virue saw something, then Malfoy would put the other male's worries at ease if he could. The woods could hold such mystery after all. "Was it in the sky?" he had not really caught a scent when he just sniffed the air, but that didn't mean there was nothing. It could be out of the range of his nose, and eyesight. His orange orb went to the shaking male and tried to give a supportive smile to the other male.

Rialu felt him struggle under her touch, a note unheard of, and she deigned to keep the situation under control. He wriggled, and she grunted at his fight, groaning out a deep breath she ushered with a "shhh," attempting to coax him, sink him down into to a lull with her voice. It slowed his body and Virue stopped his thrashing, the beast tamed for now with a familiar sound.

"Shh!!" She snapped more harshly at the arrivals, watching her mate's irises bloomed wide, and slowly beginning to pull back inward. He blinked once in a while dully and stared upward at her unsure, his breathing moving at a considerable pace, she could feel his ribs moving up down up down, and she held him lighter for breathing room, but she did not let him go. More questions landed same as the last, she covered Virue's ears. "I don't know!" Rialu managed gasping, her shoulders slumping and her face growing grim, releasing his ears more gently than she'd grasped at them before and she found herself looking into his eyes again.

Then Malfoy wondered what could not be seen from the ground was in the air, out of scent. "It's...not in the sky," she breathed. "His eyes were looking everywhere. I just don't know anymore. Is...the air...cooler here?" She wanted to know, all avenues would be explored on all levels of explanation, even the ones beyond her reach or understanding. Something was guarded here, it had wormed its way around and now Virue was chasing ghosts again. She stopped to draw a deep breath, she dragged an arm across her snout to sniffle. "He's always had...these monsters chasing him, he says. Something like that."

There was a bottom if anything came from monsters, whether explained or not. A dangerous and destructive end if Rialu knew anything about real monsters, that ripped loved ones apart, a loud and not so peaceful art if the world was a canvas like Virue told her.
