OOC: The Rabbit Warren, near Drakeside Hollow. Dusk. WC: +2 +10, use co-rank in a thread

IC: The sun was just sliding below the horizon as Sedona shouldered her archery equipment and started from her home in Winterwynd out into the wilderness of Mistfell Vale. The evening was pleasantly cool, clouds dappled overhead, masking the arrival of the stars as the Whitesage woman made her way through the quiet, damp streets of the populated hub of the pack. Crossing between homes, quiet and in no real hurry, the tan coydog moved with a purpose in the direction of the treeline. Most of the rest of her fellow Mistwalkers were attending to their families, gathered around fires for the evening or otherwise occupied with their lives to notice as the pack Gamekeeper slipped away.

She headed in the direction of Drakeside Hollow and the large cavernous network of a rabbit warren that she knew existed just on the opposite side of it. Smiling softly to herself, Sedona hoped to be able to bring in at least a half a dozen of the populous critters. There was a healthy community of the creatures that lived there and this time of day was when they were most active. The warren covered a huge open field which was perfect for ranged hunting. Thankfully, the cowgirl's choice of weapon was the bow and arrow. As she made her way through the territory, Sedona kept an arrow knocked in her bow and her eyes and ears alert just in case any other opportunities to capture prey should arise along the way. It never hurt to be prepared.

Yvonne didn't really need food, nor did Dalia that she was aware of. Still, the pack, in general, might need food, and she could always use the hide for something. As she went to a good spot for rabbit, she caught the scent of a pack member. It wasn't too long before she caught sight of who belonged to the scent and her ears moved forward in interest. It was not to her knowledge a member she had met before. Halting, she watched as the other readied an arrow. Yvonne noticed as well that the other female was also moving...so she had not spotted anything yet.

Relaxing a little, she got her sling ready and then moved to let the other female know of her presence. Barton moved on her shoulder, but she made a motion for him to stay. It would not be good if he flew off and the other hunter was unaware of the hawk being a companion of a canine. If Barton got hurt, it would certainly not be a good thing. As for the smaller canine behind her? Well, Tora couldn't make sound anyways. Still, she looked back to her son and saw him wag her tail, but staying close to her. That was good at least, it wouldn't do well for the young wolf-dog to get hurt either. Looking forward again she wondered if her packmate had noticed her yet.

It was but a few moments more before Sedona's yellow-green eyes flicked up at the sight of movement off to her side. Originally a silhouette against the trees, Sedona's heart jumped in to her throat at the sound of a larger form moving about. Golden fur caught her attention and she began to turn her arrow in the direction of the motion when the figure became apparent to her as one of her packmates. Swiftly lowering her bow, the Whitesage woman splayed her ears in apology, approaching her newfound company with a small smile. "Sorry about that!" She spoke in hushed tones, knowing they were very close to the warren and not wanting to risk spooking the easily startled prey. "Seems we both had the same idea tonight." She chuckled and wagged her tail amiably, looking over the clearly seasoned huntress with her raptor companion and sling. Although she'd seen this particular female about the pack before, like so many, in her duties, Sedona had missed introducing herself to her.

"I don't think we've met before? I seen ya around o'course, but we ain't properly been introduced. I'm Sedona. It's a pleasure." She held out her free paw to the other woman, and then noticed the smaller, darker pup by her feet. "Oh and who might this handsome young fella be?" She smiled and indicated the quiet child with a kind wag of her tail. "Taking him out on the hunt?" She asked the mother shifting around her gear on her back. It wasn't uncommon for the pups of the vale to be tagging along with their moms at this age so Sedona could only put two and two together.

Yvonne looked over the other female then smiled "Da…." She glanced towards the wardens, just to make sure the rabbits hadn't noticed them. Then she turned her attention back to her packmate and shook her head, "We have not, I am Yvonne." She looked towards Tora "This is my son Tora…" then she motioned to Barton who flapped his wings a little "This is Barton." Now they were all introduced and she nodded towards the others question.

"Tora is actually getting good at catching smaller creatures, and I figured he would like to join me tonight." Tora wagged his tail and huffed happily. Yvonne was used to what would equal his happy yips if sound came out. "He is unable to speak, but he looks happy to meet you as well" Tora looked towards the new person and sniffed the air, his whole body seeming to move in excitement. Though he wanted to greet the other properly he stayed close to his mother. He had already learned the hard way that being cautious was best on a hunt.

Yvonne moved a little and ruffled the fur on her son's head. Tora shook his head, then body and gave a sneeze. He looked to his mom and his throat moved before he gave out nothing. Yvonne sighed "I know...but you can greet her better later, right now we have rabbits to catch." Tora wagged his tail then he sniffed around, his demeanor changed as he caught the scent of the rabbits nearby. Yvonne looked to her packmate again "Shall we?"

"We have not, I am Yvonne." The yellow woman gave her name and Sedona dipped her head in greeting. It was funny how many pack mates she had yet to truly meet face to face and yet she could be in the same House as they were or see them around the pack lands, just never have the chance to strike up a conversation. It was the little opportunities like these, by fate, that brought people together that Sedona liked. These encounters usually lead to good friends and oftentimes fun adventures too.

Yvonne proceeded to introduce her son, and then her avian companion as well and the Whitesage woman's eyes light up. How had she missed the beautiful bird perched so regally upon Yvonne's shoulder?! Sedona smiled broadly, reminded of her own hawk Qaletaqa whom she'd set free into the wilds around Mistfell Vale. With all her work around the pack, she didn't have the proper time to care for or keep up with training him. Sometimes she could still come across him and he'd come land on her arm and she could feed him, but for the most part, he'd become wild again. He'd even found himself a mate. It made her heart soar to know he was happy.

Grinning down at Tora and his fast wagging tail, Sedona was impressed to hear of the younger one's hunting skills. She was about to ask him a question directly when his mother spoke first. "He is unable to speak, but he looks happy to meet you as well." The cowgirl's ears splayed a little in sympathy. So the poor boy was mute? That was...unfortunate. But he seemed not to mind so much. He could communicate well enough in other ways. Nodding she chuckled as Tora sniffed and wiggled about, investigating her scent and unfamiliarity. "It's nice to meet you too, Tora!"

His demeanor then shifted entirely at the mention of rabbits. His focus became sharp and Sedona too remembered what they were all out there for. "Right. Let's get after 'em. I'll go 'round the northeast side? You take the other side? That way I'm not shooting at ya." Sedona winked, lifting her bow and the loose arrow she still held. With one last flick of her tail, the cowgirl then turned and began to move quietly around the warren through the trees that surrounded the clearing to the indicated side of the field she said she'd be hunting at. She kept a close watch on the movement of her packmates (and the silhouetted rabbits she could see) as she went, awaiting a signal to start the hunt.

Yvonne nodded and moved towards a spot she thought might work. Tora followed her silently, still sniffing out the animals nearby. The blonde female readied her sling and looked towards Sedona's location with another nod before giving a signal to Barton. The hawk left her shoulder and went towards the warrens, aiming to chase a few out of their homes. A few got startled out by the bird and ran from one danger right towards another. Tora had taken his mothers signal as his own to go into a nearby bush until he spotted a rabbit. The black and white male moved and lept out at an incoming rabbit.

Meanwhile, the blonde hunter aimed a stone at a separate rabbit then the one that her son had jumped at. Yvonne stayed aware of where her packmate would be shooting from as well as she saw Barton grab a rabbit for himself. Rolling her eyes at the hawks actions she saw that her stone had struck true, then looked to Tora as she readied another to use. Her son had already taken care of his chosen rabbit and held it proudly in his maw. Yvonne chuckled and knew the younger male needed a nod. Giving it to him, the boy dropped his kill and went after another with caution in his pose.

Sedona moved into position on her side of the warren and awaited Yvonne's signal. Holding her breath, she knocked an arrow into place in her bow and prepared to aim. As soon as Barton took to the skies, it was time to act. The rabbits scattered in all directions, panicked by the hunting bird of prey. Sedona grinned, licking her lips and took aim, being sure not to overshoot in the direction of her packmates.

Releasing her breath she released the arrow and it flew swiftly and true to its target, the rabbit impaled upon the projectile and killed instantly with a small noise of death. The Whitesage woman could tell similar success was happening over near Tora and Yvonne and by the looks of it it appeared that Barton too had taken down a rabbit.

Sedona wagged her tail, elated. Preparing another arrow, she almost was tripped up as another scared bunny went scrambling past her feet. Growling softly, she turned in the direction of the fleeing lagamorph and released her arrow. It struck the small beast in the leg, pinning it to the ground, leaving it shrieking in pain. Sedona moved quickly to the animals side and dispatched it with her knife before, removing the arrow and returning to the hunting field.

By now most of the rabbits had darted into the underground burrows. But a few stragglers still remained. Sedona took aim one more time, being careful to avoid where Barton was close by her shot, and sent the arrow flying, right into the side of a third rabbit. It also died instantly. Three for three. The tan coydog was pleased with her efforts.

Retrieving the one rabbit behind her, she then waved a paw over her head, signaling to Yvonne that she was done. She then started to move into the now open but hole riddled field that had once been filled with rabbits. "Watch yer step!" She cautioned, and went to pick up her two other kills.

Tora had missed the next rabbit, but she had not missed hers. Barton was content with the one he had caught, so the blonde female let him have it. Seeing Sedona wave, she nodded and figured three rabbits were enough for her and her son...plus the one that Barton was now slowly ripping into. Petting her son's head and amiled at him. "You did good" she was proud of him honestly, even if he missed one of his targets. The black and white boy was still learning after all, and most likely would improve with time. Moving from her son, she gathered the rabbits that Barton wasn't eating and smiled gently.

Tora wagged his tail and looked to Sedona with a happy expression. He still wanted to greet the new female, but he knew he had to wait until his mother said it was fine or when Sedona herself made any sign that it was okay for him to approach. As his mother picked up the rabbits he sat and panted nearly silently. Air coming out of his mouth made noise still, it was just his vocal capabilities that had issues. His silvery-white eyes just gazed at Sedona in general, the male content to wait for the two females to be done getting the food they had killed.

OOC: I think we can wrap this up. :) WC: +2

Carefully avoiding the holes in the earth, Sedona retrieved her kills, removing the arrows from the dead creatures and wiping them clean on her bandanna (the red cloth hiding the blood well). The tan woman grabbed each rabbit by the foot and carried them towards her pack mates. Smiling gently she passed by the hawk who was voraciously tearing into his successfully caught prey. It reminded Sedona a lot of Qale when he was in kill mode.

Being sure not to disturb the avian predator she chuckled at the exuberant pup by his mother's side. He may not be able to speak, but he didn't need words to convey his happiness and excitement. Sedona could see he'd successfully caught a rabbit of his own and she wagged her tail, reaching forward to ruffle his head. "Excellent work, Tora!" She acknowledged his catch and then turned to his mother once more. "Looks like we've got enough here to serve for a bit. We make a good team Yvonne." She grinned lifting her bow appreciatively. "How about we go take these all back to Winterwynd, yeah?" She gestured in the direction of the sleepy town.

Glancing around to make sure she'd not missed any arrows, Sedona then shouldered her bow and re-positioned her grip on her rabbits in paw, and started back towards town.
