Hunter I: Set traps in order to catch something, don't forget to collect your kill!

All welcome! Set on The Sword Coast! Assuming that most of the water is mostly frozen here by now at least close to inland! It's early morning, the sun is up, and it is windy but moderately warm!

The sun shined bright overhead, guiding her path down to the ocean waters that were all too familiar to her as the coast was shared with the same patch of coast farther down with what had been her old home of Sapient. It felt strange being so close to her old pack lands, but it made her that much more comfortable being here in New Caledonia as it overlapped with old Sapient lands. She wondered if Hibiki had considered this when he wanted to choose it as their new home. It was difficult to say, but she knew that the real reason was that Kalypso had been kind enough to convince him otherwise. At least someone had been looking after him all of this time because she had worried he had been so alone for so long, but apparently the small loner band he had joined headed by Kalypso herself had stuck around long enough to keep him company.

Her heart ached for what could have been, they had spent so much time apart she hoped that Hibiki would forgive her for her absence for so long. Not that it was entirely her fault, but she did blame herself, especially for letting her mother take her away.

Trying to distract herself from these thoughts, Kadir made her way towards the ocean, the frozen shore had made it easier for her to fish. With prey animals finding shelter and hard to hunt, at least the fish were not overly affected by the colder temperatures, nor were they bothered by the shifting weather that varied so much from one day to the next. How long would these mild temperatures last? It was a welcomed respite from the cold, frigid temperatures that threatened her fingers and toes during the best of times. It took everything she had not to venture out during the blizzard as she had felt so trapped and on edge being stuck in the house for a few days. A house that was not even their's, but whatever the case, she got claustrophobic being trapped in one place for too long.

Stepping out onto the ice, Kadir thumped the long stick she had down hard, making sure it was solid enough to carry her weight. Poking around and banging the stick against the spots she intended to walk, she carefully made her way out. Once she was a good distance off of the shore, she unshouldered the bag she brought with her filled with the tools and things she would need in order to fish. She had an idea in her mind in order to catch more fish, but she wondered if it would work. She thought about it and busied herself during the blizzard in hopes of getting her mind on the fact that she was feeling so trapped and sick. Hibiki had tried his best to calm her, which had worked for the first two days, but soon after she was going stir crazy and getting cabin fever before the end.

Pulling out the metal rebar she had managed to scavenge from the rubble of a nearby stone home, she had woven a net to sit between the bars that would create a trap for fish who came too close to the hole. She also dug out her tools that she would need to start chipping away at the surface if it was too frozen where she was at it could potentially take days to dig down far enough. Using the pick she had in hand, she began to scratch at the surface, sketching in a rough hole of where she wanted to dig that was a little over two feet in diameter. Once she was happy with where her hole would be, Kadir used the same pick, setting the pointed end against the ice and using the hammer to chisel out a bit of ice at a time, hopefully without cracking the whole thing and send her plummeting into its icy depths.

She began working the ice, shoveling away the pieces as best as she could before working again, digging farther and father. The woman began to wonder if she had settled too close inland, and therefore the water could have been potentially frozen over a foot down. Giving her head a shake, she continued, piece by piece, shattering the glassy surface before finally, a spirt of water gushed up from the hole. Grinning, the green-eyed Ahearne woman picked up her pace, working outwards from the hole she had created, hoping to make it bigger before it decided to freeze again.

"I'm going to head out now, Gramma," Arran said loudly as he walked out of their house so that his Grandmother, Rhavan, would hear him. She was in the yard to the side of their house watching over the livestock.

"Okay see you later!" Rhavan said, equally as loud as Arran's voice even though it was unnecessary. "Bring be back something to eat, will ya?" She added as he was trotting away.

"Sure!" He called back, wagging his tail. He hoped he would not have much trouble finding something for her. Well, he would worry about that in a little while. With all the work Arran had been putting into getting the goats and sheep back into their pen, he decided it was time to just have a little fun. His back was a bit achy from all the snow he had carried on a large fur pelt. Even with help, it was not easy, and there was still more to get done. It would be a bit yet before the animals were able to return home, and Arran was really looking forward to it. He was pretty sure that his Gramma was as well.

It was her turn to watch the animals for now, and Arran would be taking a turn later, and then they would bring them inside at night so that both he and his Gramma could manage to get some sleep. During the day, they had to watch them all the time to make sure the goats did not escape because having them in town meant that they would probably manage to get into someone else's house and eat everything they could get their little mouths on, which would be really bad. Also kind of funny, but still definitely really bad.

Arran knew he smelled a lot like the livestock right now, so after getting out of City Square, Arran found a good spot and rolled in the snow. The parts of his fur that were supposed to be white slowly went back to white, and he ended up in a snow drift. With a sneeze, he popped his snow-covered head out of the top of it and then leaped back onto the trail he was following. After a pause, he shook out his fur, dislodging most of the snow that was clinging to it. Perfect. The rolling seemed to make his back feel a bit better, too, letting him stretch the muscles a bit.

Then he was off again, wandering mostly at random until he found a set of tracks and a somewhat familiar scent. He could not quite place it, though, and so he decided to follow it. There was enough of New Caledonia's scent mixed in with the individual canine, a female, he thought, that he did not think the tracks belonged to a trespasser, but he was still curious. Besides, wandering was fun! So, he followed the tracks until the ground seemed to change. Arran realized that it was becoming snow-covered ice. Looking ahead, he spotted a figure out there who seemed to be digging, maybe? It reminded him of how Percival had been ice fishing. When Arran got closer, he recognized who it was.

"Kadir!" He barked excitedly and started to bound towards her. Then he remembered that there was ice under his paws, which meant that he did not want to slip on it, or accidentally cause it to crack. "You're here!" His body wiggling tail wags did not calm down at all, but at least he managed to keep all four paws on the ground instead of hopping around. "Are you fishing?" He asked, looking at the hole she had made in the ice.

I love Arran so much!

Once the hole was satisfactory in size to the Ahearne woman she sat back and began putting together the small fishing rod that was more than banged up from traveling and had seen much better days. Of course, the rod was no more than a metal rod with twine used as rope, and a hooked piece of scrap metal at the end to secure bait too and catch the fish. It worked well enough for her though. If her plan did not work with the net, at least she might be able to catch something with the rod. Then she went about working the rebar and net together once again, ripping apart a few small chunks of rabbit skin that were leftover from their breakfast she tied it to the inside of the netting with smaller pieces of rope for bait.

The sound of approaching footsteps startled her from her concentration and her ears perked up and a doggish grin crossed her face when she recognized the male. Arran had been the first New Caledonian that she had met officially and had given her quite a bit of useful information that she brought back to Hibiki and sort of solidified the move in her own mind. Setting down the rebar she watched as he approached carefully, not wanting to slip into the water hole she created in the ice.

"I was wondering when I would run into you," she stated, a small smile slipping across her maw as she sat back for a moment to consider what she was doing. "I am trying to rig up some kind of netting so we can get more fish in one go. I'm not sure if it will work, but it will be worth a try, especially if it does work," she laughed, giving a huff out of her cheeks as she considered what the logistics of the set up was. If she caught more than one fish it would be well worth it for so little hassle, perhaps they could configure some deeper traps for the sea creatures that roamed the ocean floors. Shellfish would be just as good.

"What brings you out here?" she asked, curious as to why he would want to get anywhere near the ice or maybe he just smelled her scent and decided to follow her here. It would be helpful having another body around if they needed to pull the freezing netting out of the water, Kadir was sure she could manage it on her own, but more hands or mouths would make things much easier.
